Eastern Europe and Its German 1%

East-Central Europe – the Visegrad nations and the Balts – are commonly considered to have had far better post-Communist transitions than Russia. They started earlier, and from a more privileged position; in contrast, the Soviet economy was more distorted in the first place, and there were no living memories of prewar capitalism. They got more economic and institutional support from the West. There was no haphazard rush to privatize state assets, preempting the development of a powerful oligarch class that in Russia’s case has become a byword for sleaze and boorishness.

One positive result of this was a generally much lower degree of income inequality than in Russia.

europe-gini-index

This conventional view is mostly true.

However, as Leonid Bershidsky has just pointed out, citing a recent research paper by Thomas Piketty et al., there is a small catch.

Finally, the large negative foreign asset positions of Eastern European countries should obviously be put in relation to the fact that these countries have adopted a development strategy based upon economic and political integration within the European Union. Eastern European countries are largely foreign-owned, but the owners tend to come from EU countries (in particular from Germany). So in some sense it is not entirely different from the situation of peripheral regions that are being owned by more prosperous central regions in a large federal country.

It is also worth noting that these patterns of foreign ownership also have consequences for the study of domestic inequality. In particular, as demonstrated by Novokmet (2017), the fact the holders of top capital incomes tend to be foreigners rather than domestic residents contributes to lower top income shares in countries like the Czech Republic or Poland or Hungary (as compared to countries like Russia or Germany). I.e. foreign owned countries tend to have less domestic inequality (other things equal).

In other words, a lower net international investment position – all other things equal – should result a country having lower inequality by dint of their 1% being foreigners.

niip-eastern-europe

The two major exceptions in the ex-Communist world are Russia and China.

Finally, it is interesting to compare ex-communist countries with respect to the importance of foreign assets (see Figure 7d). It is particularly striking to contrast the case of Russia and China, which both have positive net foreign assets (i.e. these two countries own more assets in the rest of the world than what foreigners own in Russia and China), and Eastern European countries, which all have hugely negative net foreign assets (i.e. these are largely foreign-owned countries). These differences are partly due to differences in economic and natural endowments. In particular, it makes sense for countries with large (but not permanent) natural resources such as Russia to accumulate trade surpluses and foreign reserves for the future.

Certainly Russia’s resource endowments helped and perhaps made it possible, but there was also a political element to it. Even under Yeltsin, the Kremlin had always been loathe to privatize state corporations to foreigners, even though they managed them better than either the state or domestic oligarchs.

One explanation is that privatization was unpopular enough, and selling off assets to foreigners would have made it even more politically untenable. A more cynical interpretation is that foreigners were harder to influence or to provide the kickbacks and favors their benefactors in the state expected for their largesse.

Be that as it may, Russia (and China) developed national oligarchies, whereas Visegrad and the Baltics ceded theirs to the established oligarchies of Mitteleuropa.

Ergo for Belarus and the Ukraine (!) with respect to Russia. (Despite everything that’s happened since 2014, Russia remains the biggest foreign investor in Ukraine).

Now as Bershisky goes on to point out, while foreign ownership has its benefits – institutional integration, better management, etc. – there is also a price to pay: A loss of sovereignty.

It’s not really a choice; Eastern Europe will eventually need to champion integration, just as it once championed membership. My own view is that eventually, it will no longer matter where a European company is headquartered because a united Europe will have a common budget, and economic cohesion will become inevitable. Nationalism may be having a moment, but it’s too late: The Eastern European countries have been open to investors for too long, and they’ve lost too much control over their economic future to hold on to political control.

Of course opinions on the desirability of this will differ.

As an immigration optimist who had a hysteric fit on Twitter over Brexit, we can be pretty sure that Bershidsky will see this as a good thing.

That said, Bershidsky might be jumping the shark here. As the Ukraine has shown, if there is sufficient political will, an economic “colony” can well defy its foreign owners, despite the economic cost of it (a 15% collapse in GDP). On the other hand, could Muslim immigration really be the hill on which Eastern Europe’s populists and Brussels skeptics make their last stand? After all, multicultural enrichment is a process that takes years if not decades to get noticed and to start having a marked effect on natives’ lives, whereas the loss of Crimea and the Donbass – and the ensuing threat to Ukraine’s continued statehood – was a much more sudden jolt.

In the lack of any such highly visible state of emergency, it is easy to imagine the East Europeans taking their hush money and piping down.

Comments

  1. That said, Bershidsky might be jumping the shark here. As the Ukraine has shown, if there is sufficient political will, an economic “colony” can well defy its foreign owners, despite the economic cost of it (a 15% collapse in GDP).

The Ukraine was not an economic “colony” of Russia.
They had and have their own ruling economic class which nowadays includes their president.

Also, “defying” did only work by selling out to new “foreign owners”, i.e. EUrope and America.

  2. As the Ukraine has shown, if there is sufficient political will, an economic “colony” can well defy its foreign owners, despite the economic cost of it (a 15% collapse in GDP).

And this political will is supported by the vast majority of Ukrainians, even though on a more personal level they probably don’t trust their ruling elite much more than they did before the unwarranted Russian incursion. I wonder why?

  3. After all, multicultural enrichment is a process that takes years if not decades to get noticed and to start having a marked effect on natives’ lives, whereas the loss of Crimea and the Donbass – and the ensuing threat to Ukraine’s continued statehood – was a much more sudden jolt.

You don’t need to be at an advanced stage of cancer to notice the effect of cancer on other people.

(Please do note that I am only using cancer as a metaphor for a situation that can, and will, snowball out of control.)

  4. I guess you could say that what kept Eastern Europe going during the long cold Communist winter (1945-1989), was the dream that their asse(t)s one day will be owned by the civilized Europeans instead of the Russians.

It gave all Eastern Europe that warm and fuzzy feeling, knowing that one day they’ll belong to the west – literally – which gave them that sense of worthiness that they never experienced while they belonged to the Russians.

It’s like a dog one day owned by a bum sleeping on the street, the next day adopted by a wealthy family. The moral of the story – a dog remains a dog regardless of the ownership situation.

Disclaimer: Any similarity to actual events or persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. No animals were harmed while making this statement.

  5. Although his occasional shows of contrarianism have earned him an undeserved reputation for independence, Bershy is not only malevolent, but stupid as a bag of rocks. When push comes to shove, economics is downstream from politics. Foreign owners are less able to use their economic power to effect social change than domestic owners, not the other way round. This argument should have ended a century ago with those who claimed economic integration meant WW1 couldn’t happen.

  6. When push comes to shove, economics is downstream from politics. Foreign owners are less able to use their economic power to effect social change than domestic owners, not the other way round.

That is why the European project is so effective. It mixes economics with politics and turns foreign owners into distant domestic owners by turning many European countries into Europe, the country.

  7. That said, Bershidsky might be jumping the shark here. As the Ukraine has shown, if there is sufficient political will, an economic “colony” can well defy its foreign owners, despite the economic cost of it (a 15% collapse in GDP).

There is a major difference between the case of Ukraine and that of Poland/Hungary, that is, in the case of Ukraine, the defyed their owner pursuing another more wealthy/prestigious owner. In the case of Poland/Hungary, they wont be able to do that since they are already owned by the wealthiest entity around. So it is not a function of political will.

  8. “multicultural enrichment is a process that takes years if not decades to get noticed and to start having a marked effect on natives’ lives”

In Poland, it’s very hard to find someone who hasn’t worked in a western european country for a time or doesn’t have a family member or close friend who has. As cheap labor they’ve seen the multicultural process up close at ground level (especially as exemplified by muslim immigrants and their descendents) and they don’t like it or want it for their own country.

I think that’s the real, usually unacknowledged, source for the grassroots rejection of joining Merkel’s reverse Lebensborn.

That said, it’s hard to walk around busy parts of the largest cities without seeing a few non-European residents, largely East or South Asian.

  9. Mao Cheng Ji says

The Ukraine was not an economic “colony” of Russia.

Exactly. Akhmetov, Kolomoyskyi, and all the rest of them are all domestic, not foreign oligarchs.

All this reminds me of what I heard from Ukrainian analyst Mikhail Pogrebinsky a while ago. He was talking about the populist struggle against Ukrainian oligarchs.

He said that, even considering all the issues domestic oligarchs represent, they are still domestic, having some connection with the community, some stake in well-being and stability of their country. He said: just wait till the domestic oligarchs are crushed and replaced by foreign (German, American – international) capital, that will swallow whatever’s left, spit out the bones, and move on to the next target.

And I think he’s quite right.

  10. I wonder, it’s probably not true of Russia, perhaps it’s not true of Hungary, but I’m not sure.

Materialism has certainly grown since the early 20th century. In many of the richest EU countries knowing whether you’ll achieve half a percentage point less or more in GDP growth is ranked as the first national cause.

There real poverty has in effect disappeared long ago, low income people routinely spend half of their earnings or benefits on tobacco, alcohol (both often highly taxed), mobile phones and TV sport subscriptions/betting. The homeless are much more the results of psychiatric and societal disorders than strictly a scarcity problem. Anyone who has been to or knows developing countries sees that very clearly.

And while the lower classes do bitch about inequality, the 1%, for valid or not so valid reasons, deep down all they want is to partake in the same material lifestyle, not to overturn the liberal economic order in any way.

  11. Mao Cheng Ji says

The neoliberal EU project turns national governments (especially the peripheral ones) into servants of global capital. Not just EU capital, global capital.

The main role of a national government is to attract capital, and to provide conditions for maximizing profits. Samsung factories in Hungary pay no taxes, no rents, they even get free electricity.

Now, some might say: what’s wrong with that, if it works well for their populations? The problem is, it doesn’t. Wages are low (naturally), and what’s even more problematic: this kind of economy is extremely susceptible to economic shocks.

Look at Latvia, for example: today your economy is booming and you’re a ‘tiger’ (2000-2007) – and tomorrow it’s 25% unemployment and riots in the capital (2009). That’s because you’re a peripheral economy – bubbling in boom times – first to be abandoned in a downturn.

  12. Materialism has certainly grown since the early 20th century. In many of the richest EU countries knowing whether you’ll achieve half a percentage point less or more in GDP growth is ranked as the first national cause.

It is certainly true in Germany whose national identity was built on the economy (Zollverein, Mittelstand, Mark,…).

There is nothing else left after the old order was destroyed several times and non-economic nationalism discredited.

  13. Well, Poland has already begun to re-polonise(as they call it) their country. They are already doing it with the banking sector and the media sector is next. Their state-owned bank bought up a huge stake in an Italian bank which had a large prescence. Deutsche Bank has already announced they are surrending their position and selling it to willing buyers(likely the Polish government).

It’s important to note that what keeps the system going has been the so-called structural funds but they are declining as a percentage of GDP. The 2007-2013 round consisted of about 1% of Polish GDP. The 2001-2006 round(which Poland joined a few years before formally joining the EU) consisted of 2% of GDP. The current one(2014-2020) should represent about 0.5% of GDP and from 2020 and onwards around 0.25% of GDP. By the late 2020s, Poland and many other EE countries should either be neutral or even net contributors. This will likely happen for Czechia by the early 2020s.

Having a large negative net international investment position is largely due to having large current account deficits. Czechia has been paring their down over time and Poland is now running far more healthier trade balances(they had a trade surplus last year and will again this year, even including oil imports). Same is true of Slovakia and Hungary.

While it is true that they are dependent on Western Europe, their relative position is strenghtening. That’s why they are all getting stronger nationalist leaders. Ultimately, Western Europe will have to accept a weaker hold on these countries. This is already happening, and the attacks on Poland are the most intense because the Poles are most aggressive in taking back sovereignty from the EU(or, better understood, Western capital interests).

In short, I’m not as certain that the board is as stacked against them as he claims. Certainly as poorer countries like Romania are growing fast and are noticing the same things. Since the EU doesn’t guarantee security – the US is – this gives these EE countries additional leverage as well.

I think the biggest mistake that Russian columnist – and Anatoly makes as well with his last paragraph – is that he underestimates the importance of the muslim question. For a guy freaking out on Twitter because of Brexit, he likely doesn’t understand it. He should visit Prague and Paris back to back and see the difference. Or Krakow and Marseille for that matter. No amount of ‘hush money’ will settle this, especially as I pointed out, EU structural funds keeps declining as a percentage of their GDP. The German supply chain is far too deeply invested not to see these countries in the common single market(which doesn’t imply EU membership, as Norway or Switzerland shows).

It’s an interesting read, but it also shows that he and Anatoly has a shallow understanding of the CEE region.

  14. >Ergo for Belarus and the Ukraine (!) with respect to Russia. (Despite everything that’s happened since 2014, Russia remains the biggest foreign investor in Ukraine).

The grammar norm is, of course, the Ukraine.

  15. Ultimately, Western Europe will have to accept a weaker hold on these countries.

What if it is not accepted?

The German supply chain is far too deeply invested not to see these countries in the common single market(which doesn’t imply EU membership, as Norway or Switzerland shows).

    Technically, no.
But Brexit suggests that Brüssel is less willing to accept such exceptions.

  16. He should visit Prague and Paris back to back and see the difference. Or Krakow and Marseille for that matter.

Exactly what ‘differences’ do you mean, in light o the EU ‘hush money’ that you bring up? Please, be more specific. Thanks.

  17. Since the religion of most E Europeans is called ‘Roman’ Catholicism they are bound to have less hostility to European foreigners.

  18. I have never been to Paris, but I have talked to people who have been there. Does it still smell of urine?

  19. I agree that returns on EU funds are diminishing, but I can’t replicate your numbers by googling although I think you are paraphrasing. Could you please provide a source for your conclusions? Note that I tend to agree with you, but the impact of the structural and cohesion crap is hard to measure so any source would be helpful.
At least for the job market, the impact for Poland seems to be positive, although more regional cases would be needed. As for Poland, check out the following>http://financialobserver.eu/poland/time-to-start-measuring-the-impact-of-eu-funds-on-the-economy/
I am interested in the whole Visegrad, but mainly Slovakia. The EU money here is spent only for the sake of spending. They literally have to spend an allocated time constrained amount or they lose it. Sure, GDP rises as does employment but the real economy and purpose? We are witnessing the greatest capital distortion since the commies.

  20. I recommend the book “Poland – Europe’s Growth Champion,”
to be published in the coming months by Oxford University
Press. The book’s author is Marcin Piatkowski, a young Polish
economist who was most recently at Harvard, and now has
a visiting position in China. The book examines the economic
history of Poland in the last 500 years. His talks on the subject
of Poland’s economic history can be found online. He also has
an interesting Twitter feed. E.g., he tweeted recently that
China’s productivity level is only one-third that of the West’s
    average

  21. Part of the reason behind the Polish shift to the right, might be the emigration of younger citizens to Western Europe, taking their leftist views with them, and with a lower likelihood of involvement in their home nation politics. American expats generally don’t vote, and lean left.

The V4 bloc should have a stronger hand if the FPO joins an OVP coalition after the October election in Austria. If the leftist government in Italy loses next year, that’s an even bigger roadblock.

  22. It’s a lot more complex than that. If anything the ones that leave and stay are the less skilled that don’t have many prospects in Poland. The younger and more educated might be more left leaning but they’ll also have more prospects in Poland.

And left leaning is all relative, by the time they’re in their mid 20s even the more left leaning want to settle down and start families,

  23. The guy is your typical social liberal, with barely any knowledge or interest in polish culture, polish problems (outside economics) and polish history. I wouldn’t count on Poland being a growth champion of anything since this country is deeply divided since 18. century between progressive “modernizers” and traditional catholics, and this is why it was a puppet of Germany and Russia, and will stay so, unless other countries will have it worse

Western Europe has a very strong instrument of influence in Eastern Europe. If Eastern Europe wanted to act independently, then its citizens would have to accept a lowering of living standards, and still they wouldn’t be able to create the same industrial base as Western Europe has, because it requires cooperation and ambitions of the local elite, which is non-existent in Eastern Europe, because the elites only want to copy and serve Western Europe. If anybody has their hopes in V4 as that better example and a hope for the betterment of things, then they’re naive. One can count only on Western Europe becoming divided enough to stop it from any action

  24. Just go look up emerging economies. Central Europe (Visegrad) and Russia are part of it.

    The problem of Poland:

If we stay in EU / US axis. Over time Liberal/Leftist idealogy will gain strength. So will the Right/Conservatives. Increasing divide.

Polish governments are all pro US and/or EU.
    Polish people are divided.

For example Polish is split 50/50 if to continue sanctions on Russia or improve economic relations.
Russiaphobe are around 30-40 percent. The rest is neutral and some like Russians (though distrust the Russian government).

50 percent of Poles are willing to leave EU if Muslims are forced to the nation.

I like Visegrad Group, but by itself it is too weak to resist Globalists in US/Canada/Western Europe
    plus Russia.

  25. If the Austrian right wing wins,
    they may join Visegrad.

Apparently there are some Bavarians who want seperatism.
What are the political views of Bavarians? They are Catholic minded right?

I forgot the mention that Hungary is more willing to work with Russia,
    than Poland elites are.

  26. @Mr. Hack: In regards to Ukraine, it is worth pointing out that a pro-Western Ukrainian might not mind the loss of Crimea and the Donbass too much. After all, the loss of these territories ensured that a pro-Russian candidate will never be able to win another election in Ukraine (the trends were heading in the West’s direction even before the Maidan Revolution, but the loss of Crimea and the Donbass significantly accelerated the process).

@Anatoly Karlin: In regards to Muslim immigration, it would be interesting to see how much of an effect IQ and genetic research over the next couple of decades is going to have on this. Indeed, is Western Europe going to reduce Muslim immigration if it becomes clear that the low average IQ of Muslims is, in fact, genetically caused?

Also, as a side note, if current trends continue indefinitely (as in, no IQ-enhancing technology, et cetera), Western Europe probably wouldn’t be able to sustain its domination of Eastern Europe; after all, if current trends continue, Western Europe is probably going to suffer a (much?) larger IQ loss than Eastern Europe would.

  27. RadicalCenter says

To the extent that people follow this current Roman Catholic Church, they will lose their culture, their freedom, and eventually their land and lives to Islamic and African savages. The church is working round the clock, for whatever reason, to assist and accelerate the immivasion and destruction of white European peoples in Europe and elsewhere.

So, die bayerische Leute, like anyone else who values their culture and very existence, ought to reject the Catholic Church until and unless it is thoroughly cleaned out and starts over. Probably that latter project is not doable in a reasonable period of time, and possibly it is therefore not worth trying.

  28. I think the Catholic Church did a lot of good in the past.
And my views on society are largely based on mixture of Slavic and CC before Vatican Council 2.

But yes it appears the CC is becoming more weird and clearly has an agenda for immigration into US
    and Western Europe.

My theory is Catholic Church want to mix the liberals with arabs/turks/berbers
to make them easier to accept religious views and wipe out the liberals (through mixing and numbers).

    vs

The Globalists want Muslims for cheap labour and they want Muslims to turn liberal.

Yeah – Ukraine has been doing so much better under “its” oligarch owners than Poland has been doing with its German owners these last 20 years.

  30. This is a great piece on an aspect of political economy in general. Whenever economic nationalists bulk at foreign ownership, I just dismiss them as economically illiterate clods. But here is one illustration of foreign ownership influencing fundamental domestic politics in a country.

Way better economic commentary than your other stuff (e.g. Russian is exporting more helicopters! therefore it’s not absolutely dependent on export of natural resources).

  31. Mao Cheng Ji says

Why, all things considered – yes, it has. Before the 2014 putsch, anyway. GDP from $31B in 2000 to $183B in 2013, and without losing its sovereignty.

  32. While the structural funds are declining as percentage of GDP as less funds are transferred, it doesn’t seem to be diminishing as a percentage of GDP because of robust growth.

In 2016, Poland had a GDP per capita (nominal) of $12,300. That is better than Russia ($8,900) or China ($8,100) but nowhere near the US ($57,400).

Polish GDP per capita was $11,200 in 2007. I think the turbo charged growth of 2000 until the 2008 economic crisis was a one-off event. Poland will be stagnant in the years ahead.

  33. GDP purchasing power is better measurement than nominal in many ways.

Polish economy will grow slowly over time (its still an emerging economy, like brics, argentina, etc).
    The problem is increasing debt.

Once its population will fall (from 38 to 23 million) by 2100 (assuming no immigration)
it will lose influence on the regional and world scale.

The trend is (excluding Sub-saharan Africa), higher populated nations will become more powerful and richer.
For example China/India/Indonesia/Egypt/Argentina will gain power in the next 50 years.

  34. Nevertheless,

    1. Poland’s economy in the last 20 years has been growing
at almost the rate of South Korea. In fact, it’s expected to grow
by 3.7% in 2017; its GDP (PPP) per capita this year is close
to $30,000, and is expected to reach $40,000 within 5-6 years
    2. Poland is the only country in the EU that didn’t go through
      a recession during 2007-2009

I agree that Dr. Piatkowski is a little too soft on the Communist
years (1945-89). He is young, and so has no memory of the
    horrors of Communism

  35. Mao Cheng Ji says

The flood of EU subsidies ($300+ billion package) will dry out in 2020, and then Poland is dead. Expect another cycle of mass-immigration, possibly riots. Down and out, end of story.

  36. You didn’t get my point. Poland’s problems don’t go back to communism, but to 18. century Enlightenment. This is when Poland-Lithuania were partitioned and there was a reason for this. So the problem of Poland isn’t communism, but the conflict between the “catholic form” and neo-gnosticism/neo-marxism. This is about civilization, not just some Poland!

  37. attiIathehen says

How many of these “Germans” are Ashkenazi?

  38. attiIathehen says

The problem is the Catholic Church TODAY. The Catholic Church promotes black/Asian priests.

  39. attiIathehen says

Foreign ownership means Jewish ownership. Russian industry will be completely owned by Jews unless stopped.

  40. you are giving EU to much credit, and your views on future of Poland is likely wrong.

Poland economy is mostly improving because it left the Soviet influence and has conservative economic values. Poland never adopted Euro currency.

the EU aid “helps” but it is only part of factor. Western Europeans always forget they got Marshal Plan, while countries like Poland did not. Polish GDP would have been equal or larger than Spain if things continued without war.
Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, would likely be richer without war too.

Poland will be fine mostly on economy. Just lose influence due to smaller population.
It is the safest larger nation in Europe, too. (Germany will have increasing number of violence because Islam is increasing).

  41. yes anon. Poland didnt have recession, because our banking policies are decent.
we did not adopt Euro. we have our own money. we resist the liberals from Western Europe.
and thats good. I hope we never get Euro money.

  42. And just how exactly do you think Poland will be immune from whats happening next door in basically all of Western Europe? Poland will succumb just like Germany, France, UK, etc, it has sold its soul to the EU and will never be able to stop the endless influx of the 3rd world. It will follow exactly the same path as all the rest, first it will start with a trickle (it has already started), then you will have the mainstream media pushing for how wonderful multiculturalism is, then you will have an increasing crackdown on any Polish nationalist resistance, finally you will have Warsaw being majority non white (probably before 2060).

Then you have the added nonsense with Russia, you play your stupid NATO war games but at the same time you embrace and endless horde of non whites into your land to please the US regime.

Poland chose the EU and NATO, which ultimately means it chose national suicide, it has no future.

  43. And just how exactly do you think Poland will be immune from whats happening next door in basically all of Western Europe?

It’s been immune for the past 20 years. As have been Hungary, Slovakia and Czech Republic. Why do you think it will stop being immune? Has Germany provided a nice advertisement for it?

Poland will succumb just like Germany, France, UK, etc, it has sold its soul to the EU and will never be able to stop the endless influx of the 3rd world.

Poland may be the least 3rd world inhabited place on the planet, after Japan.

Then you have the added nonsense with Russia,

A country that is more Islamic than any western European country, and has a huge land border with Central Asia and a customs union with several Muslim countries.

but at the same time you embrace and endless horde of non whites into your land to please the US regime.

Your wishful thinking doesn’t correspond to reality.

  44. Poland never adopted Euro currency.

But they have to. All new members have to adopt the Euro.

  45. Mao Cheng Ji says

Poland economy is mostly improving because it left the Soviet influence and has conservative economic values.

I don’t think Polish economy is ‘mostly improving’. I don’t have the numbers, but I have no doubts that the industrial sector has collapsed in the post-communist period, just like in any other warsaw-pact state. Just look at the once famous Gdansk shipyard. It’s the same story everywhere.

the EU aid “helps” but it is only part of factor

The total subsidy is larger than the whole, inflation-adjusted, Marshall plan for all of Europe. It would be very surprising if it was only a minor factor.

The way I see it, Poland was supposed to be the shop window, the success story for attracting others and lifting their morale (sorta like West Germany before the Soviet collapse). So, huge amounts of money are being thrown there. And, I believe, the experiment has failed. Soon we’ll see what’s going to happen without subsidies, but I don’t see any reason to feel optimistic.

  46. It is you that clearly is denying reality. The EU has very openly shown itself to be anti nation state and even anti white but the Poles still love the EU. Poland already backtracked when the EU told them not to interfere in its own domestic affairs when it came to judicial powers (basically leftist judges overriding right wing politicians). Almost nobody in 1960 thought that France or UK would be majority non white within 100 years, yet here we are, Poland made the Faustian pact and has embraced cuckservatism, its already dead.

  47. No facts about Poland, only assertions and wishful thinking. Except for one, naturally wrong, fact:

Poland already backtracked when the EU told them not to interfere in its own domestic affairs when it came to judicial powers (basically leftist judges overriding right wing politicians)

There was a lot of domestic pressure against these reforms, including by some anti-Commie dissidents who did not want the executive branch to have as much power as it did in Commie times. This is why the government backed off somewhat – not because of outside pressure. In the end 1 of the 3 reforms was signed into law over bitter EU objectives.

On issues where the Polish people are more or less united, such as keeping out the horde of refugees, Poland doesn’t budge.

  48. What more facts do you need other than the fact that its in the EU??? Did you happen to miss all their declarations about how wonderful non whites are, how it must take in an endless amount of refugees or the most important fact of them all – that it wants to abolish the nation state and that it is sovereign.

You are so in denial, it’s beyond ridiculous, Poland is not a sovereign state anymore, and thus cannot (and will not) keep out the third world.

  49. well yes the Poland has not been really free since 1920-1930s.

neoconservativie (cuckservative) influences are increases. Duda started saying bs
about Iran, even though Iran isnt a threat to Europe. Now he wants Turkey to join EU.

most invaders to Europe are from Arabic/Negro nations.

at the same time though, conservative cultural values are still there in Visegrad Group.

the original Pan Europa plan was different from the current EU.
(check the flags and details online).

no good parties here in Poland, but they are still better than all of West/North Europe.

  50. Now he wants Turkey to join EU.

Why not? It makes EUrope even more dysfunctional.
    Isn’t that the goal?

  51. All this reminds me of what I heard from Ukrainian analyst Mikhail Pogrebinsky

LOL. All of your info about Ukraine seems to come from Yanukovich’s circle of people. This explains the idiotic nature of many of your claims about the country.

  52. Mao Cheng Ji says

What? Are you constipated today, or something?

  53. “Huge amount of money”, true, but you forget that youhave to substract our dues paid to EU and the costs of introducing new regulations. Moreover, compared to the Polish budget: in 2016 it was netto 5.5 billions euro; the income of POlish budget alone in 2016 was about 73 billions euro. Compared to the size of the total GDP, the amount is rather small. Comparable amount of money (between 4 to 5 bilion euros) is sent annually to Poland by our emigrants. Our GDP PPP rose by 1.60 since we entered EU (2.5 times since 1989). There was collapse in 1990s, but – compared to Russia, for example – it was relatively short-lived (some three years or so).

Last year for the first time our export was larger than import.

I don’t have the numbers, but I have no doubts that the industrial sector has collapsed

As for the industry, in short you are wrong. We have large industry and we export a lot of industrial items; for example, we are around being 12th in the world if it comes to export of car parts. Unfortunately, almost none of our products is produced under Polish name, and that’s the problem, and not the lack of industry.

  54. Unfortunately, almost none of our products is produced under Polish name, and that’s the problem, and not the lack of industry.

One of the main reasons for the lack of respect for Poland’s economy.

  55. Mao Cheng Ji says

What about the wharf, ship-building? Heavy industries, steel works, coal mining? I have the impression that everything is either drastically scaled down or eliminated. Car parts is a secondary, supporting industry; relatively low barrier to entry, easily replaceable. Hungary at least still has the big steel factory in Dunaujvaros, relatively intact, owned by Ukrainian and Russian capital.

  56. almost none of our products is produced under Polish name

One can at least say that last Witcher game was known to be made in Poland. Probably one of the best games in terms of technical quality, gameplay and story line (not the usual SJW nonsense one sees in the other AAA games).

  57. While it is true that they are dependent on Western Europe, their relative position is strengthening.

I would emphasize that last line.

The European Union is something like a shadow US, with the difference that in the EU, the 0.1% is heavily German, and the cheap labour outsourcing is directed at Eastern Europe rather than Eastern Asia.

Both the US and Germany have very rich elites, who also want to have cheap labour nearby, and they, 1) have little national feeling – seeing themselves as “globalists” 2) are heavily invested in, and rewarded, by a globalized neoliberal world 3) will always live comfortably in their elite transnational bubble and couldn’t care less what happens to the Lumpenproletariat domestically or anywhere else.

Concepts like “America First” are a direct threat to their system.

It looks like digitalization and the internet enabled these companies to set up these elaborate supply chains and reap the enormous profits of producing in the East and selling in the West.

  58. jilles dykstra says

No idea what the author tries to say.
About cultural enrichment, there is a view that by resisting Muslim immigration the Visigrad countries, in 50 years from now, will be the only European countries.
But there is hope, Muslims in NW European countries feel more and more discriminated.
My interpretation of this is that they refuse integration.
This was well demonstrated by an undercover report from Danish mosques ‘we are not Danes, we are Muslims’.
The same is said by the Dutch Muslim party DENK, ‘integration is not necessary’.

  59. Of course (((Bershidsky))) would be an (((immigration enthusiast)))!
This scum is the same all world over.

  60. When they say it`s not necessary they are saying that they plan to have the whole country to themselves. With predictable outcome for the natives.
    Such integration.

  61. The whole world is getting richer. Poland is simply
riding the trend. Take a look at McCloskey’s latest
book, Bourgeois Equality – How Ideas, not Capital
or Institutions Enriched the World. What the economists
call The Great Enrichment began in 17th century Holland,
then in the 18th century expanded to England and the
American Colonies, etc. Czechia and Slovakia are also
getting richer. In fact, in terms of GDP (PPP) per capita
they are slightly ahead of Poland. The whole Visegrad
group is becoming more affluent, although still behind
Western Europe. Interestingly, Lithuania, based on the
World Bank projections, is growing its GDP faster than
any other country in that region, and is likely to get
ahead of Israel in GDP per capita. It’s a tiny country but
still. Russia and Ukraine will get richer too. It’s a worldwide
    trend.

  62. As the West declines then EU FoM means the 3rd world will move East. Even in London I come across a lot of ‘French’ Africans or Arabs. Unless FoM ends or repatriation begins then EE is already doomed due to EU membership.

  63. Bershidsky is a Hasbara, his columns on US foreign policy are classic Hasbara IO.

  64. I was taught econ by Stansliaw Gomulka, who was very influential in Poland during the transition, Poland delayed privatisation because they were worried the Germans would come in and buying everything up on the cheap, so it has always been a consideration. He thought early privatisation in Russia was the biggest mistake the IMF made there, they didn’t appreciate the need for functioning institutions nor the deep effect 70 years of communism had had.

  65. “I think the Catholic Church did a lot of good in the past.”
Yes, to an extent….however, I will never – ever – forgive them for not only covering up (winking at ?) near systemic child abuse, but the vicious way they have treated victims seeking justice & compensation.

  66. Very pertinent article, on to something: global power elites, destitute masses. The glitches at the top, Russia versus US versus China versus Germany, territory versus trade, currencies, military obsoletion, indeed need ironing out by the elites. It is a matter of percentages and ego though, not of principle. The elites and their offspring are closer on a global scale then top and bottom, “les gens de rien” and “oligarchs”, “institutional oligarchs” and the voting deplorables, are at a same larger entity.

Muslims versus Christians, territory and culture versus elite interests, that are necessarily global, are as consequence and cause related. Human numbers carry negative economical value, are a liability, the same algorithms used in theoretical economics tell you so.

The immediate question is who controls what for the long haul. See above.

  67. Neither Kolomojsky (Israeli-Ukrainian citizen) nor Timoschenko nor Firtash and Poroschenko have been Russian “colonizers” — this local scum has been very good at making Ukraine a colony for themselves.

As for the “ensuing threat to Ukraine’s continued statehood…”, it could be easily avoided if (IF) the new rulers considered federalization which was the essence of the Eastern Ukrainians’ demands. Federalization is quite common, by the way: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federated_state
But that was not a good plan for the handlers at the State Department and the CIA: https://sputniknews.com/world/20140415189240842-ANALYSIS-CIA-Director-Brennans-Trip-to-Ukraine-Initiates-Use-Of/ “… It’s clear that the CIA director’s presence in Kiev is much more than mere coincidence… Despite the denials by the White House, it seems that Brennan’s visit was an attempt to, at the very least, express support for a violent crackdown on pro-Russian protesters and militants in Eastern Ukraine.” … CIA Director John Brennan visited Ukraine over the weekend, information that was confirmed by White House Press Secretary Jay Carney on Monday, after being reported by media on Sunday. Over the same weekend, Kiev authorities cracked down on pro-federalization protests in eastern Ukraine. Regime troops advanced toward a number of cities in eastern Ukraine Tuesday to attack the protesters.”
Looks and sounds like the Empire of FedReserve’ fight for a unipolar world.

    1. London has well-established Muslim communities to welcome these people; Poland does not.
    2. London has lavish welfare for these people; Poland does not.
    3. Muslim “illegals” can easily blend in with “native” Muslims in London. There are no native Muslims in Poland, such illegals would be easily spotted.

The same people predicting a flood from the EU into Eastern Europe 20 years ago are doing the same now. Their predictions were false then and are false now. Ironically these same people tend to be supporters of Russia or hope for some sort of alliance or union with Russia. Russia, as you know, has a higher Muslim % than any Western European country, borders central Asia, and is in customs union with several Muslim countries.

  68. “ensuing threat to Ukraine’s continued statehood…”, it could be easily avoided if (IF) the new rulers considered federalization which was the essence of the Eastern Ukrainians’ demands

LOL. That’s right, the pro-Russians are the ones who really have Ukraine’s best interests at heart. It’s like all of those right-wing Jewish columnists supporting the “liberation” of Iraq 15 year ago. Who better loves the Arab people and cares about their welfare than they do?

Federalization was demanded by mostly ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine. They didn’t want German or US-style federalization, they wanted a type that would give their Russian region veto-power over national decisions (such as joining EU, or NATO), own militia, own language, etc. It’s like if American federalization meant that California had Spanish as its official language, and had the right to pull the entire USA out of NAFTA or NATO if it wanted to.

Federalization was a ploy to turn Ukraine into what Poland was in the mid to late 18th century: a decentralized powerless state controlled largely by pro-Russian oligarchs, eventually to be partitioned and largely absorbed by Russia. No thanks. Clever attempt by Russia, however – it deserves credit.

Here is a rough analogue to Ukrainian federalization:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Targowica_Confederation

  69. Bukephalos,

You make a points that are interesting, but I cannot agreeing.

I have never visited a developing nation that is one of the overpopulation nightmares, but have lived in or spent time in several that are not. Seeing few or no homeless people.

In Japan, your idea of mainly insane people or close to that, or just antisocial, valid in the time of the bubble economy and as it burst, so mid-to-late eighties.

Abe Kobo’s The Box Man is a good work of fiction about one such. If you are to liking deeper fiction, you maybe can get it through inter-library loan. I checked, the above is the correct title for the english translation. One such spends much time at a park near my flat. He is, or was, a scholar, he doesn’t like to talk. Once, I asked what he was doing, he was copying the Socratic dialogues in Japanese, into tiny and very precise handwritten script. So studying. Haven’t seen him doing such things lately, which makes me sad.

Through the nineties, numbers of a different type of homeless grew, older working-class men, they had cardboard and PVC tent towns in all major parks in Tokyo.

The 2011 earthquake and big wave were gifts from above to govt. for hiding their presence. Almost all of that type are now working on the Fukushima clean-up. Which will never end.

The tent towns are all gone.

I find it it very difficult to believe that what you are saying is applying in say, NY or London, extortionate rents because of stupid and greedy policies must be rendering many homeless. Sure, they may be seeming like crazy people, but how many were to starting that way?

  70. Michael Kenny says

What events in Ukraine prove is that all the countries of Eastern Europe have two choices: the EU or the return of the Russian tanks. I don’t think the latter is even a serious option. None of the leaders mentioned want their countries to leave the EU. US failure to stand up to Putin in Ukraine, wavering commitment to NATO and the existence of powerful and well-financed promotors of Putin’s cause in the US make the EU the only game in town. An ironic reversal inasmuch as Putin was supposed to undermine the EU, not strengthen it! Also, I don’t see how EU membership can be described as a “loss” of sovereignty. Ukraine isn’t an EU Member State and thus, by Mr Karlin’s yardstick, hasn’t “lost” any sovereignty. What good has that done it? That didn’t stop Putin from invading the country, annexing part of its territory and fomenting fake “rebellions” elsewhere. That didn’t stop Putin declaring unilaterally that Ukraine was part of Russia’s “sphere of influence”, which amounts to saying that it has no sovereignty. The EU isn’t about losing sovereignty, it’s about exercising it in common to mutual advantage.

  71. Karlin,
Novel, concise, & highly readable information for the 90+% of us who work long hours, are involved with family & loved ones, and maintain stability and improvement in our communities.
    Thank You!

  72. Your analogy is an apt one. I note the fate of these Polish traitors and hope to see something similar befall their Ukrainian analogs.

  73. Mao Cheng Ji says

What events in Ukraine prove is that all the countries of Eastern Europe have two choices: the EU or the return of the Russian tanks.

‘the EU or tanks’ doesn’t really sound like “two choices”: you’re mixing apples and oranges.

If you really wish to limit it to two choices (which seems like a generic fallacy), it should either be ‘the EU vs the Eastern bloc’ or ‘German tanks vs Russian tanks’.

  74. as a moderate position,
Poland should keep to Visegrad and expand it.
then leave EU if too much pressure from EU or Muslims.
    balance between EU/US/Russia.

there are several other options. unfortunetly with the current elite positions,
it is choosing between Zionist/neoconservative/US vs Liberal/Globalists/EU.

there is significant percent of Poles who dont vote and have no representation in the “democracy”.

  75. “…multicultural enrichment…”

If that isn’t PC code for “foreign invaders” I don’t know what is.

  76. Very true. Though my understanding is that haphazard privatization was going to happen in Russia anyway because the government needed to quickly create a new class of elites who would provide a bulwark against the Communists. (Clearly that would not have been a consideration in Poland).

  77. I wish Putin had invaded the Ukraine and put it out of its misery, but alas and alack, he didn’t. There is also nothing fake about a rebellion where 80% of the rebels are locals.

Ukraine isn’t an EU Member State and thus, by Mr Karlin’s yardstick, hasn’t “lost” any sovereignty.

Bershidsky is a far greater proponent of this idea that I am, having expressed reservations about it. Take it up with him.

  78. Anatoly but that would result in lots of killed
    Russians and Ukrainians.
    Not good for Slavic people.

Furthermore, you would lose more allies among the population in the Central and West Europe.

By not invading all of Ukraine, it shows Russia is defensive for its interests and you gain some support.

  79. I bet Putin is quite satisfied with the current state of affairs in Ukraine. He just would had to let Donbas militia go on the offensive after Ilovaisk, but he refused and ordered Zakarchenko to talk with Porky in Minsk.

  80. : In regards to countries such as Poland, it is worth noting that they might become much more desirable places for Third Worlders to settle in once they will converge to developed country levels of wealth. Indeed, the IQ of countries such as Poland virtually guarantees eventual convergence to Western standards of living.

Now, whether countries such as Poland could actually be willing to allow large numbers of Third Worlders to settle there after they become fully developed is another question (indeed, Japan certainly doesn’t allow this).

Also, in regards to Ukrainian federalization, Yes, the kind of federalization that the pro-Russian forces in Ukraine support is completely unacceptable to any country which genuinely cares about its sovereignty. After all, as you said, giving a U.S. state the unilateral ability to prevent the U.S. from entering into alliances, economic unions, et cetera is completely unacceptable!

Now, if the pro-Russian forces were proposing a German-style or U.S.-style federation, then it might make sense to open a debate about this and to allow the Ukrainian people to decide this issue for themselves. Indeed, a federation has both upsides and downsides and the Ukrainian people should be allowed to figure out what exactly they prefer. However, again, such an offer certainly isn’t on the table right now!

  81. @Anatoly Karlin: Had Russian outright invaded Ukraine, it probably wouldn’t have had much support and might have had to deal with large-scale protests, et cetera. Indeed, maybe the West would have even attempted to sponsor an anti-Russian insurgency in the Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine.

Don’t believe me? Here is polling data which shows that, even right now, the residents of the separatist-controlled Donbass–while mostly wanting autonomy/a special status–prefer Ukrainian rule over Russian rule by a 56% to 44% margin:

    http://news.kievukraine.info/2017/05/the-two-parts-of-ukraines-donbass.html

“The views in the self-declared republics are more diverse than might be expected: 21 percent want these areas to be parts of Ukraine without a special status, and 35 percent would prefer a special status in Ukraine.

Conversely, 11 percent want to see the territories as parts of Russia without a special status, and 33 percent would prefer a special status in Russia.”

    (21% + 35% = 56% for Ukraine; 11% + 33% = 44% for Russia.)

Meanwhile, the vote in the Ukrainian-controlled parts of the Donbass is a whopping 91% to 9% in favor of continued Ukrainian rule:

“In Kiev-controlled Donbass, a clear majority of 65 percent wants the territories to be parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts without a special status, while 26 percent think a special status in Ukraine is necessary, and about 9 percent see the future of these territories in Russia. ”

    (65% + 26% = 91% for Ukraine; 9% for Russia.)

Anyway, my point here is that had Russia invaded and occupied parts of Ukraine, it would have very likely had to deal with a hostile population there. Indeed, given the figures for the Donbass, I certainly can’t imagine most residents of other parts of Ukraine being very welcoming to Russian occupation of their areas.

  82. Interesting post – so Ukraine does exist as an independent entity, separate from Russia, in the mind of the people who live there.

  83. RadicalCenter says

If demographic trends continue anything like they are now, those Muslims are correct that from their perspective, they don’t need to integrate.

The whole of the UK and western and northern Europe will simply fall into Muslim hands as Muslims have children and brainwashed, easily intimidated, morally confused, self-hating (and heavily homosexualized) non-Muslims don’t.

Hard to believe this is happening, but there is no realistic end in sight other than the subjugation and dissipation of white Europeans, indeed of any non-Muslims there.

  84. RadicalCenter says

Russia is also unwise to let Muslims settle in their country, notwithstanding the complex history they have with the neighboring Muslim peoples.

It is that factor, more than any other, that leads me to despair of Russia being a holdout able to survive the mongrelization and globalization that is destroying the West.

  85. RadicalCenter says

You’re under the impression that Spanish isn’t an official language of California? Have you been here recently? 😉

(and yes, it will be official soon enough)

  86. There is also nothing fake about a rebellion where 80% of the rebels are locals.

It’s somewhere between fake and real.

The 20% represented the most effective forces and were over-represented among the leadership. Chechen war vets, etc. It was probably critical. At one point the people’s prime minister and one of 2 vice-ministers were Russians. Tellingly, they were veterans of setting up the pro-Russian republic in Moldova. In addition to the 20% , you have arms shipments, intelligence, training, leadership, etc. Russia followed its script, set everything up, led the project while using locals in often subordinate roles, and with time filled in the upper levels of the structure or template that it created with locals whom it vetted.

This all began at a time of power vacuum, with no functioning government army (think Russia in late 1917) when small groups could accomplish much. In Ukraine’s case, the small group was armed, trained and led by Russia.

  87. The Catholic Church promotes Africans/Asians because it can’t get Europeans to become priests. You act like the Church wants Africans/Asians

  88. Demographicly the whole of Arabia could move to Western Europe and they still would be a minority. Also by the third generation they have a lower birth rate than the Europeans and that does’t even include the fact that muslims are likelier to become Europeans than Europeans become muslim

  89. pro-Russians are the ones who really have Ukraine’s best interests at heart. It’s like all of those right-wing Jewish columnists supporting the “liberation” of Iraq 15 year ago. Who better loves the Arab people and cares about their welfare than they do?

hahaha!! you lying Nazi cunt fuckup. ‘Pro-Russians’ are the only normal Ukrainians you dipshit. Those who dont have Ukraine best interest at heart are imperialist Polish dickheads and the Baltics who do amazingly small amounts of trade with Ukraine ( they actually do much larger trade with Belarus than with Ukraine despite the huge gap in the 2 countries sizes and populations….with their exports to Ukraine far outsizing their imports from the struggling Ukrainian economy) and persuade them into all sorts of braindead anti-russian actions. ‘Pro-Russians’ supply gas, biggest trading partners, biggest loan providers, biggest sender of remittances and keep the country afloat and so on you braindead lying sack of faeces

Federalization was a ploy to turn Ukraine into what Poland was in the mid to late 18th century: a decentralized powerless state controlled largely by pro-Russian oligarchs, eventually to be partitioned and largely absorbed by Russia. No thanks. Clever attempt by Russia, however – it deserves credit.

yawn…just more projection from a son of an galician POS rapist

Federalization was demanded by mostly ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine. They didn’t want German or US-style federalization, they wanted a type that would give their Russian region veto-power over national decisions (such as joining EU, or NATO), own militia, own language, etc. It’s like if American federalization meant that California had Spanish as its official language, and had the right to pull the entire USA out of NAFTA or NATO if it wanted to.

Oh my…another fuckedup moron comment. Federalisation is something political scientists from all over the world have thought of as a logical necessity in view of the distinctive geographical dynamic of Ukrainian industries and voting patterns, you idiot.
Comparing Spanish being imposed into America with Russian language into Ukraine? Comparing NATO and NAFTA to Ukraine joining the EU and NATO? Shows what a dishonest dumb scumbag you are. You also lie about the terms insisted by the rebels…on a negotiation that never took place for you to even claim they were rejected you stupid tramp. It’s like comparing America pulling out of nuclear testing agreements in 128AD …to now. A completely idiotic nonsennsical argument. Cretin. A million other thing could be said about your stupid outright lies about the federalisation concept. This would have prevented a war and kept a stable Ukraine you disgusting scumbag

  90. Stalking troll barks something, saying nothing.

Very funny how it actually presents its ideas as good for Ukraine though. Yeah – it has Ukraine’s best interests at heart. Thanks for another example of that.

The problem is that the “special status” they want is unacceptable to the rest of Ukraine’s people, and rightly so. They want their own laws, militia, and to have veto power over national policy like Ukraine’s joining the EU or NATO. So in reality only 21% want to be in Ukraine on normal terms.

An interesting poll would be if “special status” wasn’t an option: would they choose to be part of Ukraine, or Russia?

Better that Ukraine rid itself of this region completely.

The northern Kiev-controlled area has more normal attitudes. The current front line would make a good border.

  92. It’s clearly 100% real you dis ingenious sack of faeces. 80% (probaby 90%) says it all, with many of the non-‘Ukrainians’ being from Rostov…which has significantly more connection to Donbass and it’s people than some Ukronazi dickhead in Kiev of Lvov ( or some Polish-American fantasist fuckup who spams pro-Russian blogs with his idiotic crap)

Russia followed its script, set everything up, led the project while using locals in often subordinate roles, and with time filled in the upper levels of the structure or template that it created with locals whom it vetted.

hahahahaha! Again! What a disinfo-spreading POS useless cretin you are. That is just more meandering bollocks and disinformation.

What is fake though is the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian “resistance” against the Donbass fighters. A government and state structure that has over the last 3 years been full of Georgians,Estonians,Lithuainians,Braindead Nazi family scumbag Americans and Canadians “assisting” Ukraine by fucking it up with 3rd world healthcare and failing economy…is not ‘Ukrainian’ in any way. . This evil, illegal war is funded by the IMF&the US you fuckup….with American proving intelligence, arms, supplies. Saakashvili is even boasting about the Georgian Officers serving Ukraine in this war you imbecile (not to mention the Chechen terrorists). If the International community (controlled by the US) had taken a balanced approached to the Nazi taking power in the coup (instead of supporting these vermin) then the Ukrainian public would not have accepted the overthrow, just as they would not have gone along with this war

  93. The dog keeps barking.

  94. If the only Raison d’être for Ukraine is to be used as a threat to Russia, than they shouldn’t être at all. NATO is not a club of democracies, it has always been primarily an anti-Russian alliance and it still is.

If the Ukrainian monkeys are OK with this, than they should also understand how Russia can’t be OK with that. If the Ukrainian state is not viable unless used to blackmail and weaken Russia, than they are not viable as a state and they should admit that they are a failure –which pretty much everybody is aware that this is the case.

  95. The non-Slav pretending to be a Slav has joined in, to try to tell actual Slavs what they ought to do. Very cute.

NATO didn’t become a popular choice in Ukraine until after Russian intervention. Prior to it, the popular choices were EU orientation, but no NATO.

If the only Raison d’être for Ukraine is to be used as a threat to Russia

This is true, in the way that the only reason for Ireland is to be a threat to the UK, for the Balkan peoples to be a threat to Turkey, for Poles and Finns and Balts to be threats to Russia, etc.

  96. Mao Cheng Ji says

Well, here’s another poll, in the DPR:
    https://ria.ru/world/20150424/1060721554.html

40% want independence, 39% want to join Russia, and 15% want to be in Ukraine. How’s your poll better than mine?

As for “Meanwhile, the vote in the Ukrainian-controlled parts of the Donbass is a whopping 91% to 9% in favor of continued Ukrainian rule” – what did you expect? After all, the 9% who said otherwise committed a crime, under paragraph 1, article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Violation of territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine”. Jail time, up to 5 years.

  97. Ireland isn’t in NATO you braindead cretin…..neither is Finland
…and for that matter…neither is Austria. 3 of the wealthiest states in the EU….unlike Pseudo-Catholic moron states like Poland which refuse to help war refugees in the middle east, constantly persuade ukrops to fuckup with cretinous decision-making…and do a microscopic amount of trade with their “brothers” from Ukraine

NATO didn’t become a popular choice in Ukraine until after Russian intervention. Prior to it, the popular choices were EU orientation, but no NATO.

Actually the whole policy of the western elite is to make EU integration for the eastern states be synonymous with NATO membership you idiot. The Baltics and Poland actually joined NATO before they went into the EU but clearly both processes were linked. Thus, separating the 2 issues is braindead.

Whats more is that with Ukraine becoming an American vassal state, it’s government, media, institutions controlled by Soros-freaks and pseudo-nationalist morons pushing anti-Putin and anti-Russian lies and bilge….they STILL don’t even have a majority or clear majority of Ukrainians wanting NATO! Any polls are irrelevant (and KIIS fakes) because there was an illegal coup…and Russians actions are solely in response to this. Polls that are interesting and relevant…such as the huge majority of Ukrainians want to reintegrate back with Russia during the 90’s after the catastrophic effects from the end of the Soviet Union…..are actually true ones.
It should also be mentioned that even with most of the Oligarch media in Ukraine being controlled by American interests…..actually the majority of Ukrainians wanted to join to Eurasian Economic Union you fuckwit before the coup. In a fair and honest referendum on deciding which Union to join, with full campaigning allowed…it’s obvious that Ukrainians would have decided to join the EEU. They wanted this for 2 reasons…they prefer being with Russia…those that aspire to EU membership (but weren’t total imbeciles_) recognised that the best route to EU membership was probably by joining the EEU …improving the economy and the institutions to the point that EU integration was possible.

You really are fucked in the head, troll vermin

  98. This is true, in the way that the only reason for Ireland is to be a threat to the UK, for the Balkan peoples to be a threat to Turkey, for Poles and Finns and Balts to be threats to Russia, etc.

  99. The “beginning of the end” of Catholicism was sealed with the infiltration of the Catholic Church “Vatican II Ecumenical Council” of the 1960s by Jews and Protestants.
Much Catholic ritual was discarded, as well as the promotion of the absolution of the Jews for Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and death, despite vitriolic Jewish hatred of Jesus Christ which exists to this day. The fact is, the Jews DID get the Romans to crucify Jesus Christ and DID accept full responsibility for the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. As is the case today, they got others (Pontius Pilate) do do their “dirty work” for them…
Abandoning the use of Latin in the Mass destroyed its “universality”. Previous to Vatican II, one could attend Mass anywhere in the Roman Catholic world and understand the meaning of the Mass.
Prohibition of the celebration of the Tridentine Mass (except by special ecclesiastical permission) pushed many Catholics away from the new “Modern Mass” and the New Church, in general…It took a brave Cardinal Lefebvre and the Society of St. Pius X to “push back” against Vatican II and re-legitimize the celebration of the pre-Vatican II Tridentine Mass and other Catholic rites.
In pre-Vatican II times, the priest (celebrant of the Mass) was considered to be a part of the congregation, and a representative of the people.
By turning the priest around to face the congregation, the priest was no longer a representative, but an “actor”, diminishing his status and importance.
One area where the Catholic Church could improve itself involves celibacy, which is NOT Church “dogma” or doctrine. Celibacy was put in place during the middle ages in order to keep Church property from being inherited by family and relatives of priests and bishops. Celibacy was based on purely financial considerations–nothing more. It is interesting to note that Episcopal (Anglican) priests who convert to Catholicism can bring their families with them to the Church while Roman Catholic priests are denied marriage.
It was a grave mistake by the Church to de-legitimize celebration of pre-Vatican II principles.

  100. Yep.

Vatican II clearly had problems. (It was done to appease some outside groups, probably threats and infiltration involved).

I also think they should let priests marry. But no women priests.

  101. What you are talking about is puppets & show which isn’t that important for the health of religious institutions. What kills the Church and all other religions is the modern-urban lifestyle in which your neighbors are not your collogues are not your gym-mates are not your church members etc. so loosing one group doesn’t mean loosing the other groups. That is what kept people going to church who have a old-fashion village lifestyle

  102. My stalker barks again. He got into a barking fit twice in response to the same post of mine, poor thing.

  103. 1. London has well-established Muslim communities to welcome these people;
    Poland does not

….errr the only “well-established Muslim community ” in UK and London are the Pakistanis you ignorant dickead.
Nigerians ( who most Brits are unaware are from a country with large amounts of Muslims),Somalians,Libyans,Syrians,Iraqi’s,Albanians/Kosovans,Egyptians and so on….actually starting coming into London or the UK long AFTER Poles started arriving en masse into Britain (which itself is only a very recent phenomenon, barely more than a decade old)

Sweden,Finland,Denmark didn’t have ‘well-established Muslim commmunities” or any imperial links to these lands before they started allowing large amounts of them in you shithead….and they are much smaller populations that Poland . Poland has a huge gap in it’s workforce because so many of them left for the UK and Germany, not quite as bad as the dying Baltics but still quite bad. The Poles need this workforce from abroad yet insist on being parasites off the EU by exporting many of their civilians and all their criminal lowlifes to terrorise other countries in the EU

    2. London has lavish welfare for these people; Poland does not

    .

…well the myth of Poland being a well-run state is exposed. The welfare for these people in London is only relatively “lavish” compared to what they have come from ….that Poland with its huge exodus of people abandoning it still cant even provide basic welfare for a few thousand Muslims shows what badly-run,pseudo-catholic dipshits they are ( who parasite off the EU)

    3. Muslim “illegals” can easily blend in with “native” Muslims in London. There are no native Muslims in Poland, such illegals would be easily spotted.

It’s like claiming a Papua New Guinean assimilating in the US by making people think he is American because they are both Christian countries….such is the degree of retardedness in your attention-whore lying comments.

There could be Nigerian muslims who prefer assimilating with other sub-saharan african groups instead of Arabs, indonesians and so on…….not to mention different Muslim groups speaking different languages, eating totally different food, looking visibly different. These Nigerians, if anything are more likely to be intertwined with Afro-Carribean Christians( long-standing community in London) . Apart from the Pakistani’s, the only “well established Muslims” would be the 1979 Iranian diaspora..but even that is not enough to be classified as a sizeable community you moron.

Going around London in 2012 they maybe was about 3 Libyans and 4.5 Syrians

All of your bollocks is just son of a Galician POS rapist scumbag projection…its obvious that nearly all Ukrainians who went abroad after 1991 were more than happy to be called Russians or have locals refer to them as Russians, apply for jobs as Russians…because it was good and this is what they like being called. Not one of these Ukrainians get defensive when reffered to Russian by the locals in western countries. That is why scum like you project your BS onto other areas

  104. Your poll was from 2 years earlier. Perhaps there is some disenchantment with how things have gone since then?

Furthermore it doesn’t include “special status” as an option. Which makes the poll you posted more realistic, actually, because the choices reflect the actual possibilities (though rejoining Ukraine are slim odds).

  105. Barking troll keeps barking. Adds some incorrect “facts” while he’s at it.

  106. Poland wants to become the banking,
finance, stock exchange, and real estate center
for Central Europe, i.e., the area between Russia
and Germany. For example, it expects to get 15-20,000
finance jobs from London due to Brexit alone. JPMorgan,
the world’s largest bank, is in the process of moving 2,500
jobs to Warsaw. That’s a lot for a city of 3 million in the
metro area. Google has a research center in Warsaw, and
Poland as a whole has hundreds if not thousands of high
tech startups, and not just in the video game industry. Amazon
already has major centers in Poland, and is planning more.

With all those high rises, central Warsaw (far from the Old Town)
is starting to look like mini-Manhattan. The latest is Varso Tower
which at 310 meters (1017 ft) will be the tallest building in Poland
once completed. It’s being built by a real estate company.

  107. Everybody wants to be a financial center but that doesn’t mean you will become one. Poland and Warsaw have none of the advantages needed to be a financial center. It is not small so it cant do the low taxes but high tax income, it has no history of being a financial center, it isn’t on the main trade routes, It is not a center of wealth and it is not a tourist attraction. In short Vienna and Estonia will keep their positions

  108. thats only 50% good (jobs, tech, etc)
its also 50% bad (foreign companies)

hopefully Warsaw never turns into New York though.
    (diverse, overcrowded, liberal)

    and to the other guy

for a few thousand Muslims shows what badly-run,pseudo-catholic dipshits they are ( who parasite off the EU)

only 1 country is actually Catholic by all qualifications and its a tiny state Vatican City.

in Europe, Poland beats every other “pseudoCatholic” country in following most Catholic religious and cultural procedure.

compare the gdp debt numbers of Poland and Ireland. That may become a problem in the future.
(I have no problem with Ireland btw).

  109. You know that you could be few stupid comments on the internet away from singlehandedly winning Ukraine its independence and sovereignty? That’s what a great patriot you are, you stupid moron.

Maybe one day they will build you a monument in Kiev – the statue of the unknown internet user – who did so much for Ukraine. You belong to a useless nation, whose only purpose in life is to aid the enemies of Russia. Beside this “goal” your “nation” has no separate value and importance of its own. A one dimensional basket case.

You should find something that can define you as a nation beside being enemies of Russia, but you are too stupid to come up with anything meaningful. Don’t let me discourage you, keep pounding the keyboard, you are doing such a great service here, you scumbag.

  110. Mao Cheng Ji says

I don’t pretend to know what the attitudes are, but I do know that XYZ’s poll makes no sense. Kiev-controlled parts of Donbass can’t produce result so different from the rebels-controlled parts of Donbass. Same people, same geographical area, with even a possibility to travel across. No reason for attitudes to be so that different in towns 10 kilometers from each other.

  111. I don’t pretend to know what the attitudes are, but I do know that XYZ’s poll makes no sense. Kiev-controlled parts of Donbass can’t produce result so different from the rebels-controlled parts of Donbass.

Although I suspect the poll in the Ukrainian-parts is skewed due to the presence of a lot of Ukrainian troops/police one should still expect very large differences.

Same people, same geographical area, with even a possibility to travel across. No reason for attitudes to be so that different in towns 10 kilometers from each other.

You are mistaken. The people are not the same. The Kiev-controlled parts are more rural and more ethnic Ukrainian. The local pro-Kiev militias get recuits from this population.

Here are language maps of Luhansk oblast. Scroll down to the last map. It showings % of the population declaring the Ukrainan language to be their native language.:

    https://pollotenchegg.livejournal.com/201646.html

Superimposed is a blue line is the front line. As you can see, while the front cuts right through Russian-speaking territory, there is a big difference between Kiev-controlled areas and those outside of Kiev’s control.

Furthermore, since the war began, hardcore pro-Russian activists have mostly left Kiev-controlled areas while Ukrainian activists have left the Donbas republic territories.

  112. You are so stupid, Srano, that you can’t even spell your own name. You keep misspelling it “Cyrano.”

Why don’t you remind us again what your non-Slav nation’s average IQ is?

  113. What does AP stand for anyway? Associated Pederast? That explains it. After all you are a member of a religion that approves of pederasty and pedophilia, right?

You know why I choose Cyrano? Apparently Cyrano had a big nose which made him quite unattractive to females, but you mother was quite happy to discover that I can use my nose as a phallic substitute to please her.

  114. “Why don’t you remind us again what your non-Slav nation’s average IQ is?”

I think I’ve mentioned already that I don’t have a horse in this race.

Having said that, my impression is that the Ukrainian Slavs, on aggregate, have had less impact on the overall human development, then Nikola Tesla alone.

  115. You are right. Nicola Tesla was a giant. I can’t claim any kind of association with him based on nationality or anything, but I still take pride in the fact that he was a Slav like me.

  116. Having said that, my impression is that the Ukrainian Slavs, on aggregate, have had less impact on the overall human development, then Nikola Tesla alone

Here’s a list of Ukrainians that have been influential in their own respective fields. BTW, what nation of baboons do you hail from, or are you some bland Heinz 57 mixture of retrograde ‘non-slav’ pedigree, like your good buddy Srano (in most Slavic languages ‘srano’ means ‘shithead’):-)

  117. Skimmed that list.

Most prominent person there is Theodosius Dobzhansky. Who is a Russian. Distantly related to Dostoevsky.

You may keep Trofim Lysenko from the Biology section.

    Other recognizable names.

Fomenko. Again, a Russian (from Donbass). Good mathematician, if better known for his historiographic pseudoscience.

Ivan Aivazovsky. Total theft. He was 100% Armenian.

“Zionists and Israeli politicians.” You may keep them, as is appropriate for a ZOG colony.

  118. You know what Mr. Hack nicely rimes with? It rimes nicely with stupid f*ck. Which is what you are. You are a “nation” of nobodies, which will never amount to anything. Just a bunch of losers, who think that their 15 minutes of fame is highlighted by standing up to Russia.

You know what you are compared to Russia? A fart in the wind, obnoxiously smelling at that. You have no history, no culture, no achievements of any kind that should inspire any kind of national pride. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame, you f**ken cockroaches, your time is almost up.

  119. So, you’ve managed to spot 3 Ukrainians of Russian or Armenian descent out of hundreds of respected names. Here’s a partial list of hundreds of ‘Russians’ of Ukrainian descent. I guess that you’ll have to give back Vladimir Vernadsky, with whom I believe you’re quite fond of, who was clearly a Ukrainian and not a Russian. 🙂

  120. Thanks for the intro to your Balkan culture, Srano.

Now learn how to spell your name properly.

  121. You’re a sick S.O.B. Srano (shithead in Russian BTW).

So you see Srano, your name fits your crude manner perfectly! 🙂

  122. As a Serb, Nicola Tesla was about as Slavic as the average African American is an Englishman.

And given Gogol’s place in the worlds’ greatest literature (Russian), your claim is questionable.

  123. Most prominent person there is Theodosius Dobzhansky. Who is a Russian. Distantly related to Dostoevsky.

No, he was of Polish and Ukrainian descent:

    http://www.bionet.nsc.ru/vogis/pict_pdf/2010/14-2/2.pdf

From a region, Podolia, with no native Russians, though he was probably ideologically Russphile/Little Russian.

Dostoevsky was of partial Ukrainian/Little Russian descent.

  124. You are being very ungrateful to a guy who is trying to help you spell your name properly, Srano.

  125. Пане АП,

Я ніколи Вам нічого не радив, але дозвольте хоч цей один раз:

Чим скоршe ви збудетесь цього куска дурня, тим краще ви будете чутись!

  126. Mao Cheng Ji says

Oj panowie, panowie. Why can’t we all get along?

  127. It’s hilarious for me to be able to read it, and
    I thought I forgot a lot of my Russian/Ukrainian.
Slavic languages are so similar, almost mutually
    comprehensible, esp. in written form!

  128. Actually, Poland has a centuries-old tradition in finance.
The Warsaw Stock Exchange had its beginnings in the
early 1600s (elsewhere in Poland securities were already
traded around 1250). It continued until September 1939
when it was closed by Germany, and later by the Communists,
until it reopened in 1991. That’s why people didn’t hear about
it until recently but prior to 1939 it had already existed for
    about 300 years.

Estonia with its tiny population is barely even a country.
I have nothing against Austria. After all, it’s a fellow Catholic
country like Poland, which I hope will join the Visegrad group
soon, so the V4 can more effectively stand up to the unelected
bureaucrats in Brussels. However, Austria has a small economy,
only 1/3 the size of Poland’s.

Poland , with its central location, between Western Europe and
Russia, lay at the crossroads of the ancient trade routes, the most
important being the north-south Amber Road since at least 1600 BC
(amber beads from the Baltic were found in Mycenae and pharaoh’s
ornaments). Today it lies at almost the endpoint of the extension
of the ancient Silk Road from China. When Poland was coming into
being in the late 800s AD as a form of self-defense against the Saxons’
excursions across the Elbe-Saale rivers into the Polabian Slavs’ territory,
it immediately attracted merchants from the west and the south,
so the history of commerce in Poland is at least 1200 years old

  129. Panowie rozumiejá

  130. agree with your Visegrad comment.

Poland shold use its position in middle of Europe, to be ambassador and help Europe
dialogue with East and West. but apparently politics dont want this.

I understand West Slavic languages 90%
    Also some Croatian/Serb/Ukrainian/Belarus.

I have trouble with Bulgarian and Russian (some of it because I only know Latin alphabet).

For me very sad Slavs are divided.

  131. hilarious

    ?

  132. History as in a (semi-)going concern, not something historic, 1939 is something historic.

Estonia & Austria are small, That is not a negative but an advantage. It means you can tailor your law for finance, which is bad for non-financial enterprises, without having mass unemployment.

Poland is not a crossroad but a cross area. It is not like Vienna and the Donau.

ps. Amber route. Eastern European history is not a strong point of me to put it mildly but why is Poland better than East Germany or Belarus or why not per ship through Russia to the Black Sea

  133. Mao Cheng Ji says

You know, there’ve been various attempts to create a sort of ‘Slavic Esperanto’ over the centuries, with some (if modest) spike of activity recently…

  134. Good thing that you devoted so much time to a word that is central to your culture and nation. That’s what defines you and describes you the best – the fact that you are s*it. You know the more I learn about “Ukraine” the better I understand Stalin – that he dished the right treatment to you morons.

You like Nazism and their ideology, but that ideology works the best when applied to your s**ty nation. Talking about Untermensh, Hitler must have had some Ukrainians as a template on which he based his erroneous assumption that all Slavs are like that.

You don’t represent what Slavs are all about. You are an abomination. We are better than that, better than you.

Another thing that I noticed about you morons is this: Stubbornness is a Slavic trait, but with most Slavs is only part of a strategy of standing their ground and resisting unfavorable circumstances.

With the Ukro monkeys, stubbornness is all there is, there is no bigger strategy. An average Ukrainian moron is stubborn for the sake of it – so he’ll appear like he is smart and like he has a plan of how to proceed further. There never is any “plan”, just plain stupidity. That’s what makes it so difficult to deal with you s*itbags. You are frustratingly stupid and difficult to deal with and Stalin realized this, and just had no time to waste on you monkeys.

  135. You know John Lennon had a song; Woman is the nggr of the world. I don’t know about that, but I can tell you that the Ukrainians are the nggrs of the Slavs.

  136. hahahahaha! Brilliantly funny comment Syrano.

This fucked up troll “AP” has run out of ideas (not that he/it had any ideas in the first place)

Trust me,Cyrano, your the closest thing to a friend this fuckedup spamlowlife AP has.

  137. Thanks, brother. I am glad that someone appreciates my sense of humor.

  138. I admit a lot of Slavs are stubborn,
also very easily divided and angered by past.

But I still love Slavic culture which has not fallen to the modern liberal infection.
We also have the nicest females 🙂

Please note: Not all Russians are Communists, Not all Ukrainians are Bandera types, Not all Croatians are Ustashe.

  139. To put Ukraine’s collapse is perspective, the UK lost 16% of its value in one day after Brexit.

  140. Hilarious in a good sense. It’s great to be multilingual

  141. I am sorry to disappoint you.

You probably do not have technical background, so you can’t grasp the importance of AC electric current and the AC electric motor, both concepts invented or developed by Nikola Tesla.

The AC current and AC electric motor are literally the bedrock of our civilization.

His contribution is unjustly obscured by Thomas Edison and the likes, probably for the sake of not crediting big part of the success of the West to some peasant Slav.

  142. I am sorry to disappoint you.

You probably do not have technical background, so you can’t grasp the importance of AC electric current and the AC electric motor, both concepts invented or developed by Nikola Tesla.

The AC current and AC electric motor are literally the bedrock of our civilization.

His contribution was unjustly obscured by over-emphasizing Thomas Edison and the likes, probably for the sake of not crediting a big part of the West’s technological superiority to some peasant Slav.

  143. His contribution is unjustly obscured by Thomas Edison and the likes, probably for the sake of not crediting big part of the success of the West to some peasant Slav.

And Thomas Edison was a ‘peasant slav’ that somehow obscured the importance of Nicolas Tesla? My oh my, I think that you’re somehow part of some big hoax, or better yet the end result of a funny hallucination. Let’s hear some more! 🙂

  144. Сранько – it’s perfectly clear that you suffer immensely from a bad case of constipation. I’d recommend that you see a good proctologist asap – to help relieve you of your pain and help unlodge the blockage that is causing you so much discomfort. 🙁

  145. I should add that the Varso Tower in Warsaw at 310 meters (1017 ft) will be the tallest
building in the European Union, taller than the Shard in London

  146. Why don’t you open your mouth so I can relieve myself in it? Whatever comes out of my bowels can only improve the contents of your filthy mouth, you f**ken degenerate. If you are really concerned about my constipation – why don’t you show me some pictures of your family – that should do it. That should scare the living cr*p out of me.

  147. You know John Lennon had a song; Woman is the n*gg*r of the world. I don’t know about that, but I can tell you that the Ukrainians are the n*gg*rs of the Slavs.

The amusing thing about you, Srano, is that whenever you try to make fun of someone it is always ultimately about your own people.

  148. Another snapshot into how non-Slavic, Balkan people “think.”

Wouldn’t Ebonics be a better medium for your thoughts?

  149. hahahahaha! Brilliantly funny comment Syrano.

Congratulations, you are closer to spelling Srano’s name properly, than is Srano himself.

your the closest thing to a friend this fuckedup spamlowlife AP has.

And your projection is very funny. Half your posts on unz are responses to mine.

  150. For someone who is as much of a Slav as Serena Williams in an Englishwoman, you sure do have a lot say about Slavs, Srano.

Also – good that you again confirm that you are a big fan of Slav-killers (in this case, Stalin). Your family history of serving Turks for century after century still has expression in the modern age.

  151. I really don’t think that would help you any, Сранько. But it’s clear that just eating prunes wont help either. A proctologist should be able to help you.

  152. You are not Slavs, you are scumbags and disgrace to anything that the Slavs stand for. Go F yourself you and your stupid “nation”. Why don’t you get together with your idols – the Germans and commiserate together how you both are of such a pure blood and yet so unappreciated by the world for your superior genetics – you stupid degenerate.

  153. Don’t sell your family short my man. Trust me, a portrait of your family can work wonders. There must be a huge potential there to inspire some magnificent bowel movement on my part. Just listening to your BS I can only imagine what a Frankenstein type of family you must have.

  154. I feel sorry for you, Simpleguest. You are trying to prove something to these morons, but that’s almost an impossible task. You have to realize that you are dealing with stupid.

These supposedly superior Slavic specimens fail to grasp your point that the accomplishments of their entire stupid nation don’t measure up against one single Serb – of supposedly inferior Slavic stock. Man, Stalin was too gentle on these morons. He really was.

Where do they get off, comparing themselves to the Serbs? Serbia is an honorable Slavic nation. They started a world war rather than kissing someone’s butt and submitting to some arrogant western power.

While for the Ukrainian morons, kissing butt is their favourite national pastime – they can’t get enough of it. When it comes to honor, I think only the Serbs and the Russians among the Slavs are in the same class, the rest can’t compare with them.

And yet these degenerates – Mr. Hack, The Stupid F*ck and the Associate Pederast – are spewing some vitriol about their racial superiority over other Slavs. Man, I hope that soon the Russians will give them a beating like they haven’t seen before, despicable monkeys that they are.

  155. You are not Slavs,

LOL, the non-Slav claims that actual Slavs are not Slavs. Here’s some scientific conclusions:

    https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10038-007-0125-6

Two genetically distant groups of Slavic populations were revealed: One encompassing all Western-Slavic, Eastern-Slavic, and few Southern-Slavic populations (north-western Croats and Slovenes), and one encompassing all remaining Southern Slavs. According to the authors most Slavic populations have similar Y chromosome pools — R1a.

However, Southern-Slavic populations including the Bosnians, Croats (excluding north-western Croatia), Serbs, Bulgarians and Macedonians are clearly separated from the tight DNA cluster of the rest of the Slavic populations. According to the authors this phenomenon is explained by “… contribution to the Y chromosomes of peoples who settled in the Balkan region before the Slavic expansion to the genetic heritage of Southern Slavs

Why don’t you get together with your idols – the Germans

I don’t care about Germans. But you whose family served Turks for centuries are the last person to bring up Germans. Of course, you whose people ave the lowest average IQs in Europe shouldn’t mention others being morons or whatever, and you don’t let that stop you. You are funny that way 🙂

    superior genetics

Nobody claims superior genetics. Srano, you are inferior for reasons other than not being an actual Slav.

  156. While for the Ukrainian morons, kissing butt is their favourite national pastime

Remind me please, for how many hundreds of years your ancestors served the Turks?

    Man, Stalin was too gentle

Perhaps because you are not a Slav, you love it when Slavs are killed by the millions. Slavs are not your people, after all.

    Serbia is an honorable Slavic

Slavic-speaking Albanians. They are Slavs, like Venus Williams is an Englishwoman.

    racial superiority over other Slavs

You are projecting. You are inferior for reasons other than your genetic background, Srano. You are simply too dumb to realize it.

  157. some magnificent bowel movement on my part.

I don’t doubt you at all, Сранько. Your mother knew well when she chose your name! 🙂

  158. I am just saying that your family is very inspirational when it comes to bowel movements. You brought the subject first, and I thank you for your concern, but if you really want to be of any help, send me a picture of your family so I can get the things going.

  159. Apparently Stalin wasn’t very impressed with your Slavic purity and beat the hell out of you, that’s how much he appreciated you morons.

Which Slavic nation do you get along with, anyway? You don’t get along with the Russians, Polaks don’t care much for you either, Belorussians also are not big friends of yours. Could it be that nobody likes you because you are scumbags?

You can take your racial theories and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine. Whom have you ever managed to impress with your racial purity? The Germans were not impress with it and they rightfully considered you Untermencsh – I think that based on you morons, they developed the idea that all Slavs are Untermensch, which they are not. It’s just the Ukrainian scumbags.

But don’t you worry, you’ll get what you have coming to you. Because you are stupid morons, and you never learn anything, the Russians are there to beat into you the knowledge that you can’t possibly acquire by the power of your nonexistent intellect.

  160. your family is very inspirational when it comes to bowel movements.

    LOL, Srano is well-named indeed.

  161. No problem, Сранько. Anything to help out a fellow ‘slav’. Just leave me your address, and I’ll be glad to accommodate your request…

  162. The sentence was meant to be formulated like this:

“His contribution is unjustly obscured by favoring and creating an icons of Thomas Edison and the likes, probably for the sake of not crediting big part of the success of the West to some peasant Slav.”

I tried to edit it. Of course, it was not a effort done by Edison himself.
    You should know better.

  163. Stalin wasn’t very impressed with your Slavic purity

Stalin was history’s second biggest killer of Slavs, murdering millions of Ukrainians and Russians and 100,000s of Poles. As a non-Slav whose ancestors served the Turks for hundreds of years, you can appreciate him, Srano.

You can take your racial theories

Genetics isn’t a “theory.” It shows Slavic descent or not. In your case, you are about as Slavic as the average African American is a European. Nothing wrong with that. It’s just hilarious when you pretend to be something you are not, and are proud of being someone who you are not.

  164. AC electric current and the AC electric motor, both concepts invented or developed by Nikola Tesla.

This is beyond my expertise, too. The wiki page on AC current barely mentions Tesla, stating that “In 1888 alternating current systems gained further viability with introduction of a functional AC motor, something these systems had lacked up till then. The design, an induction motor, was independently invented by Galileo Ferraris and Nikola Tesla (with Tesla’s design being licensed by Westinghouse in the US). This design was further developed into the modern practical three-phase form by Mikhail Dolivo-Dobrovolsky and Charles Eugene Lancelot Brown.[27]”

This suggests that had Tesla not been around, someone else would have come up with something around the same time – that Tesla was not absolutely necessary.

The man clearly a genius. But, at any rate, an outlier doesn’t mean anything when discussing national averages. Good for Tesla, and the world, that this genius spent his life in Austria and had access to Austrian schools.

  165. This is beyond my expertise

Everything is beyond your “expertise”. Do you realize this? By a virtue of being Ukrainian – you are a moron that doesn’t understand anything.

This suggests that had Tesla not been around, someone else would have come up with something around the same time

Probably some Ukrainian would have came up with something – based on their superior genes and the fact that the Serbs are Albanians, therefore anything that inferior Serb can accomplish – can be bettered by a superior Ukrainian.

    The man clearly a genius.

Come on, no fake generosity, please. How can he be a genius when he wasn’t even a Ukrainian with superior genes. Impossible.

By the way, what accomplishments can your s**tty nation claim that came their way as a result of their superior genes? Any famous conquests, epic battles, cultural, scientific achievements, anything? Or was it all Russian fault, who held you back because they knew that they couldn’t compete against your superior genes, you s*ithead?

That must be it. It’s all Russia’s fault. Otherwise, a nation blessed with superior genes like yours, would have found a way to make its mark on the world.

As I said before, you are too stupid to make it in this world. It’s Russia’s misfortune that it has to carry you on their back forever. And like your national hero Stalin used to say – gratitude is a dog’s disease, and you dogs definitely don’t suffer from disease.

  166. Same as you, Associated Pederast. You name describes perfectly who you are and the religion that you belong to.

  167. You know what, Mr. Stupid F*ck. Hold on to the pictures of your stupid family. I don’t want to be scared stless. You can use the pictures of your family to wipe your a. That’s all those pictures are good for.

  168. By a virtue of being Ukrainian – you are a moron

Here we go again. Obviously you are a slow learner.

Once again, you apply to others what is more true of yourself.

    https://iq-research.info/en/page/average-iq-by-country

WORLD RANKING OF COUNTRIES BY THEIR AVERAGE

    Slavs:

    Poland 99
    Czech Republic 98
    Russia 97
    Ukraine 97
    Slovakia 96
    Slovenia 96

    Balkan Slavic-speaking non-Slavs:

    Bulgaria 93
    Macedonia 91
    Serbia 89

    superior genes

Still slow Srano. I never mentioned genes in the context of superiority, only in terms of identification.

Any famous conquests, epic battles, cultural, scientific achievements, anything

Thank you for confirming your illiteracy and ignorance, Srano. You haven’t even heard Gogol, the father of Russian literature. They don’t read much in your low IQ homeland 🙂

    Same as you, Associated Pederast

Your pattern of applying to others what is true of yourself was proven at the top of this post. Now we have more information about Srano, personally. Thanks for the confession. I only hope you don’t act on your instincts.

  169. Listen pederast, I know that you guys are aware that you are morons that can’t govern themselves, you just don’t want to admit it. You’re European aspirations don’t make too much sense, since compared to them, you are Neanderthals.

You should seek friendship and counsel from countries that have recently gone through similar traumatic national strife. Countries like Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia. Those are the countries that you have something in common with.

You should invite experts from these nations to teach you how to transition from a unified to a country split into two separate entities. Ethiopia and Sudan can especially be helpful – since they have gone through similar experiences like yours.

Not that you morons can be taught anything, your skulls are too thick and they only message that can get through your thick skulls can came only with a help from a really heavy stick between the horns of you stupid cattle.

So that’s the best advice that I can give you – put your European dreams (delusions really) on hold for a while and start to associate with countries that you are similar to. Good luck.

  170. Just because you don’t have an address and live somewhere under a bridge is no reason to act in such a disrespectful and primitive manner, Сранько. I was only trying to help you out. I’m beginning to think that you lousy Bosnians (or is it Albanians?) don’t even merit the lousy 89 that you’ve been assigned within the intelligence graph…In Ukraine, your kind is known as janissaries! At least in Ukraine, the Ukrainians know how to stand up to their oppressors, and not lick their ass as your kind did for centuries with the Turks! 🙁

  171. Which oppressors you’ve been successful at standing up to, you s*ithead. The Germans? The Turks? The Mongols? The Russians (although they qualify as oppressors only in your sick minds).

Who have you successfully stood up to? You’re main national trait is not to stand up, but to crawl like the sick dogs that you are. Don’t try to BS me. Your favorite national position is on your knees.

What was that famous revolutionary slogan: It’s better to die on your feet, than to live on your knees. Whoever said that, obviously hasn’t met the Ukrainians – you would have proved him wrong.

I don’t have any respect for you, you s*it bags. Any Slavic nation that goes against Mother Russia is wrong. It’s as simple as that. You are going to pay for your crimes. I said it before, it makes my blood boil when I think of the innocent Russian victims of your crimes.

No Slavic nation has ever gone against Russia and been proven to be right. Do you understand, you moron? Do you understand that you are wrong, always have been and that YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED. You scumbags.

  172. Who have you successfully stood up to?

Galicia/Volyn is free of Poles; Zakarpattya is free of Hungarians; Bukovyna is free of Romanians. Only the last chapter of Ukraine’s total emancipation from foreign oppression is still going on. Once Russia is beaten back to its borders, Ukraine will emerge as a totally free and sovereign nation.

No Slavic nation has ever gone against Russia and been proven to be right.

I beg to differ. Poland has historically challenged the Russians, and amongst Slavic nations provides the highest standard of living for its citizens.

BTW, what nationality do you belong to anyway? I don’t think that this has ever been actually established yet. What’s the matter, are you ashamed of your national background?

  173. Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia. Those are the countries that you have something in common with.

Srano, you are discussing yourself and your own people again. I’ve listed the IQs and PISA scores of Balkans and African Americans, comparing them to those of actual Slavs. Perhaps we should discuss wars in the Balkans and the Rwanda-like activities of your peoples as recently as the early 1990s?

LOL. You can’t help it. Every time you try to insult some Slavic people you are just describing your own region again. Never fails.

That’s your pattern. Based on your established pattern, when you write this:

    Listen pederast

It’s obviously just another confession of yours. Not funny like the other ones, though.

  174. Pederast, you are really starting to get on my d**k, but don’t read too much into it, you’re going to have to find some kindred spirit for you pederast activities, maybe you friend Mr. Stupid F*ck. What’s the matter, you don’t like the countries that I listed? In terms of accomplishments – that’s’ where you stupid country belongs. They can help you with the current set of difficulties you are experiencing as a result of your superior genes.

Can you imagine how much worse could have been for you morons if you were not of superior genome? I can’t imagine, but I am sure that this is not the end and that you’ll manage to sink to further lows. It’s just the destiny of the stupid.

You should take you list of high IQ countries and go to Brussel and demand immediate reception in the imperial court there. Tell them that you belong among them based on your IQ, your western location, your western oriented pedophilia worshiping church, but most of all based on your impressive achievements as a nation. Go on, the Europeans appreciate a good laugh as much as anyone, you stupid Ukrainian cattle.

  175. Pederast, you are really starting to get on my d**k

The more you confess about yourself, the more disturbing the picture.

What’s the matter, you don’t like the countries that I listed?

I like very much that you listed countries such as Somalia whose historical behavior is so similar to that of your region, the Balkans. You pretend to be a Slav, but the reality that you are not one is revealed in each of your posts..

    list of high IQ countries

You screwed up again. Reading is hard for you, isn’t it.

Slavs such as Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Slovaks have average IQs by European standards.

Non-Slavs in the Balkans have the lowest IQs in Europe, on average, however.

  176. AK: Okay, this was fun while it lasted, but it’s getting tiring. Cut out this retarded discussion. Further comments in this srach will be deleted.

  177. AK: Okay, this was fun while it lasted, but it’s getting tiring. Cut out this retarded discussion. Further comments in this srach will be deleted.

  178. I should add that the Varso Tower in Warsaw at 310 meters (1017 ft) will be the tallest
    building in the European Union,

Only 1017 ft? And it is not even built yet? You can stack two Varso Towers and still be almost 700 feet shorter than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. And when the Jeddah Tower is completed in 2020 you will be able to stack three Varso Towers and still be almost 300 feet shorter. Europe is lagging way behind in this competition. The Arabian Peninsula has got the bragging rights here. With China a distant second.

  179. You are wrong about the origins of AC power. It was one of those ideas that were ‘in the air’, though Tesla was of course an intelligent man. Simply by virtue of the manner in which electric power is generated — by rotary machines, there would have been people who would have thought of transmitting AC directly, without commutation or rectification. DC transmission does not work for transformers either, hence the power losses would have been huge over long distances. See this article for example

    http://www.edisontechcenter.org/AC-PowerHistory.html

The man whose name keeps popping up is Galileo Ferraris, though all the greats from Volta to Oerstad to Ampere to Faraday to Lord Kelvin contributed to modern electricity.

  180. As an immigration optimist who had a hysteric fit on Twitter over Brexit, we

    Watch those antecedents!

  181. Do we want 1000-meter towers amid the ancient glories
of Rome or Athens? I think not. Even the Eiffel Tower
was initially regarded as an eyesore. One of the reasons
why Warsaw has so many skyscrapers is because the city
was literally razed to the ground in the fall of 1944 by the
German Nazis. This was followed by 44 years of Communist
dreariness (except for the rebuilding of the Old Town).
The net effect was that Warsaw had to reinvent itself, and
it rose from the ashes as a 21-st century city. Before WW II
Warsaw was a beautiful city in the style of the Mitteleuropa
cities like Vienna or Budapest. I wouldn’t want Warsaw to
have taller buildings than 1000 ft. Who needs it?

For the Arabian Peninsula the towers are clearly the case of
the national egos gone wild. They are trying to convince the
world that they are no longer backward feudal theocracies,
    with limited success IMHO

  182. What is a srach?

  183. What is a srach?

I guess what is written in one of Slavic languages as “sráč”. While I am Slav and I do like Slavic nations, one needs to admit that they are sometimes quite divided – to degree that they are unable for historical reasons to agree on one common transcription or transliteration otherwise nearly same languages and sounds ;-(

Of course English world with yet another stupid transcription is not helpful much in this regard…

  184. Ah, makes sense.

  185. Ah, makes sense.

I did not have time to follow probably quite heated discussion.

As for meaning – probably vulgar, but for that one would need to know exactly in what Slavic language it was meant.

Slavic languages can be quite tricky in this, they have similar roots but sometimes words got by time slightly different or directly opposite meaning..

Úžas in Czech is positive excitement while same in Russian (Ужас) means negative.
Šukat in Polish and old Czech means “to look for” while in modern Czech it is vulgar for having sex.
    To give you few examples;-)

As for translation, (Czech and Slovak)

sere, srát = to shit, but I am not sure if this was meant.. and this could be poor understanding fully on my side..

  186. Mao Cheng Ji says

I believe the most famous Polish-Russian false-friend is the word ‘uroda’.
