Military Recruitment Videos

Might be reflective of the national cultural Zeitgeist.

For instance, China’s is rather appealing, stressing duty, honor, courage, national defense:

The US video features some random pointless adventure in the Middle East:

Here is a classic Russian military recruitment video, released in May 2014:

Translation: “This is … the first day of your new life. … That’s the new slogan the Russian military is using to attract recruits, according to what appears to be a new video for the Russian armed forces. The video, which first appeared online in early May, shows a young recruit thinking back to his time kicking a soccer ball around his neighborhood, hanging out with friends and lying in a wheat field with his lady. … Who you were yesterday doesn’t concern anyone anymore. What do you know about yourself? What are you capable of?” the voice-over says in Russian, according to a translation. “The questions may remain without answers, but would you be able to sleep well? … To know yourself is to know the limits of your abilities. To hell with limitations! Are you ready to break yourself, every day? Here pain makes you stronger, scars are a daily occurrence. Here you decide to prove something to yourself. … This you try to see in each shadow of your enemy, because without an enemy there is no battle, and without a battle there is no victory. But in reality, the main enemy … is you, the you from yesterday. Your mission: Track down the enemy, catch up with him, overcome, become better than him and return as a victor. Because tomorrow is the first day of your new life.

In fairness, that video – which included the phrase “to hell with limitations,” but could also be translated as “to hell with borders”, rather appropriately given contemporaneous events in the Ukraine – wasn’t entirely typical.

Here is a more recent, less aggressive one.

Japan’s videos seem to be played by J-Pop sidekicks:

In fairness, that video was probably extreme, even by Japanese standards. I assume that this more recent video, also popsy but less overtly gay, is more typical.

Comments

  1. That Chinese PLA recruitment video is pretty kick ass. The ad itself was well done and the weapons of war impressive. China will continue to rise as the West becomes hollowed out. I can also imagine a return of Chinese brainpower to China when things deteriorate in the U.S./West.

  2. German_reader says

The American video is easily the worst, nice reminder of the demented quality of US nationalism (fighting for “country and honour” somewhere in the Mideast, or even in godforsaken places like Niger? Lol).
Interesting that China apparently hasn’t enforced conscription for decades and relies on volunteers, that surprised me.

  3. None of the 1+ billion countries have any good reason to enforce conscription.

  4. This is the best military video:

  5. Now this is the kind of military recruitment video that could get me to join. Sign me up!

    https://youtu.be/F0l_q7b7wuM

  6. Totally correct translation:

  7. Nothing beats this recruitment video for the gabonese army corp of engineers.
It has to be from before 2009, since it shows Omar Bongo as president.

Interesting that women seem very well integreated.
The video is incredibly goofy but I kind of like how they unironically praise patriotism and serving the fatherland etc. They’re not cynical about this.

  8. Here is Cuck Korea’s:
    https://youtu.be/qdxLXBzJujU

    Translation:

    When someone speaks of courage…
    When someone speaks of honor…
    I answer our country’s call.
    I am always prepared.
    For your and my families…
I am Korea’s guardian who protects you at the front.

I tried to link to Best Korea’s video, but it’s not working at the moment:
    https://youtu.be/bPXv60HalHs

  9. LOL!

  10. I agree completely. How is blowing up some mud huts in the middle east 5,000 miles away “defending” your country? Where was the vaunted US military on 9/11? Not one of the hijacked planes was shot down by even one f-14. And how about those ads for the US navy “a global force for good”. Not a force for defending America’s shores but a “global” force.

  11. Spisarevski says

The Chinese video really is the best.

  12. fighting for “country and honour”

There is no need to put country in quotes, they really are fighting for a country, just not America. I don’t think you need reminding which country I am referring to.

  13. Carl Zha is a strange guy. Seems like some sort of Chinese nationalist at times, but pals around with Communist taig and Jew faggots John Dolan and Mark Ames

  14. Czech Army Recruitment

  15. that video – which included the phrase “to hell with limitations,” but could also be translated as “to hell with borders”, rather appropriately given contemporaneous events in the Ukraine

It’s probably not a cunning double meaning, but conventional military tongue-tied. Here is classic Russian military recruitment poster:
    “Become one of us!”
    https://pp.userapi.com/W2J8FKW37CDz3XuhMu0uFDlyzLxvd2244gdDNg/2KwuBCJypnk.jpg

  16. Carl Zha is a strange guy. Seems like some sort of Chinese nationalist at times, but pals around with Communist taig and Jew faggots John Dolan and Mark Ames

Mark Ames and Matt Taibbi chronicled their time in Russia in the 1990’s abusing and exploiting women. What princes they are.

“Tens of millions of people live in dire circumstances, stranded in the center of the world’s largest continent, with little hope of going anywhere,” said Mr. Ames. “Which means–sexual opportunity for me.”

“You’re always trying to force Masha and Sveta under the table to give you blow jobs. It’s not funny. They don’t think it’s funny,” Kara complained. “But… it is funny,” Matt [Taibbi] said. We have been pretty rough on our girls. We’d ask our Russian staff to flash their asses or breasts for us. We’d tell them that if they wanted to keep their jobs, they’d have to perform unprotected anal sex with us. Nearly every day, we asked our female staff if they approved of anal sex. That was a fixation of ours. ‘Can I fuck you in the ass? Huh? I mean, without a rubber? Is that okay?’ It was all part of the fun.

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/22876/author-matt-taibbi-confronted-over-lewd-remarks-frank-camp

  17. Btw, Taibbi’s father, NBC reporter Mike Taibbi, was born out of wedlock in Hawaii, to a Filipino-Hawaiian mother named Camila Salinas, and later at the age of 7 adopted by a couple with the last name Taibbi. So Matt Taibbi is part jungle Asian.

  18. Jews should be thanking Yahweh daily that Russians are still so un-anti-semitic

  19. Despite having a pitifully small military which never actually deploys anywhere they might have to do some actual fighting, the Irish Army have a far better idea of what makes a good recruitment ad than do the Brits – whose current risible ad campaign is so dreadful that the CoC have actually had to officially threaten disciplinary measures against any soldiers who mock it on social media.

  20. Meh, that’s not so much American nationalism as boomer nationalism.

Thorfinnsson is the quintessential American nationalist.

His nationalism is more… Vigorous than say typical German nationalism, probably on account of the US having greater asabiya. But they still want no truck with this Middle Eastern nonsense (occasional trollish fantasies about coming in, killing them, and taking their oil regardless).

  21. Lol, militaries of the West, especially this pathetic little Irish military, only exist to protect the destruction of these lands by the ruling oligarchs. Go off and play soldier Paddy, and shout “Erin go bragh”, as your family members become preyed upon by invaders and you become a second-class citizen in your own land.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YmvxYwI_y3U

  22. To complete this great sampler of army cultures, here’s an older Austrian Armed Forces ad, featuring some nerds in a tank picking up chicks. (To be fair, it was met with ridicule even then).

  23. God i hate “warrior” sh*t almost as much as globohomo.

the US one was mercenary sh*t

the first Russian one was a bit too macho, better suited for special force maybe but otherwise not too bad – second one had no idea who their target audience was

less said about the gay Japanese one the better

China one was perfect – soldier-ant psychology is all about guarding and protecting, volunteering to do all the getting shot at so the wimmenz, chillens and elderly don’t – 100% spot on.

  24. pretty good – better than the Russian macho one but still a bit too much imo – the scene people making army recruitment ads should watch is the scene during the Dallas BLM march when the shooting started and all the crowd ran away from the gunfire and all the cops ran towards it – that’s the psychology they’re targeting.

  25. For Americans, “fighting for my country” means going overseas. It just does. It’s been like that since at least the late 1800s, and, by now, most American patriots simply can’t conceive of anything else.

  26. In the 1990s, eXile was about the only English language publication that called out the looting of Russia that was going on at the time. Literally everywhere else it was “hooray market reforms.” So props to Ames and Taibbi for that. Also, columns by “Abram Kalashnikov” were pure gold.

As for their alleged sexual adventures, even at the time I thought they were of a piece with Playboy letters.

  27. that’s probably a fair point – harder to do a watcher on the walls vibe for the US cos geography – but there’s no “fighting for what” element in the US one (or the Russian/Irish/Japanese ones) whereas the China one has got that just right.

  28. Thorfinnsson says

Besides Karlin’s comment (not real American nationalism), the core audience (teenage boys) craves action and adventure. So while I don’t approve, it’s not so unreasonable to show such action.

China fell hook, line, and sinker for the American meme that all-volunteer militaries are superior to conscript forces. This was just an ex post facto rationalization of the fact that conscription became deeply unpopular in America as a result of the disastrous Vietnam War.

It’s a ridiculous concept since not only does an all-volunteer force limit your manpower (granted, not an issue for China), but it means the military doesn’t have the pick of the litter when it comes to personnel. US forces prior to the beginning of college deferments (ridiculous policy) were of much higher quality than they are today (or the Vietnam era).

The success of American and allied forces in the original Gulf War shocked China and resulted in them embracing a lot of American ideas (most notably the “Revolution in Military Affairs” school of thought associated with Alvin Toffler).

  29. the first Russian one was a bit too macho

I don’t think showing him lying with his girlfriend and then transitioning to waking up on a cold floor was a brilliant decision in trying to motivate people to join

  30. most American patriots simply can’t conceive of anything else.

I thought that Red Dawn was popular with American conservatives

  31. I don’t think showing him lying with his girlfriend and then transitioning to waking up on a cold floor was a brilliant decision in trying to motivate people to join

Such things should be shown in reverse order

  32. Thorfinnsson says

It was indeed very popular. But US foreign interventions have always been justified with the language that we need to fight “them” over there so that we don’t fight them over here.

Red Dawn shows the tragic consequences of failing to launch a preemptive nuclear strike on the USSR.

Fortunately this threat was neutralized by Saint Ronald Reagan, who whipped the USSR into submission by whipping out America’s huge credit card.

  33. You may as well cite Independence Day.

  34. That is unfair, Red Dawn was incomparably better than Independence Day

  35. Red Dawn was the funniest unintentionally funny movie I’ve ever seen.

  36. that’s the key thing imo – understanding who you’re trying to motivate – 1000 soldier ants > 10,000 normal dudes

  37. Boswald Bollocksworth says

Russians are characteristically long winded. Compare the amount of text in the Russian ad to the others. I think the development of Russian literature was delayed until the availability of cheap paper. No one dared try to write everything that would be “necessary” on vellum.

  38. Royal Marines vs US Marines Bootcamp:

  39. Following Vietnam, when the military had low prestige and was regarded as attracting low quality recruits, the Army ran the “Be All That You Can Be” recruitment campaign for a long time, throughout the 80s and 90s. The campaign focused entirely on the prospect of training, education, and career possibilities for recruits, rather than war and patriotism themes, although the Cold War and Desert Storm were going on. They say that the campaign was followed by higher quality recruits.

    https://youtu.be/ms9pxvEbILs?t=60

  40. Around the same time, the Marines ran “The Few. The Proud. The Marines” campaign, which also had little to do with war and patriotism and focused on the personal challenge and accomplishment aspect:

  41. I rather like our own one if I may say so myself. Combines good cinematography with the Irish language and an inspiring speech.

  42. Father O'Hara says

Jews. And it’s always some fat mouthed Jew crying about “women’s rights.”

  43. Ames is a repulsive shitbag, no matter how much he chronicled Russia’s poverty in the 90s.

His obsession with sexually degrading Slavic shiksas seems to be a ur-Jewish trait, he’s very much like Philip Roth in that way.

  44. Another slimy shitbag, similar to Ames but far more pathetic, is the British sex tourist and “war journalist” Graham Phillips.

Phillips seems genuinely retarded and socially maladjusted in his videos, like most PUA types. You can tell the Donetsk locals view him as a bizarre circus clown, while from his viewpoint, they’re family.

  45. I’ll add the recent Ukrainian special ops recruitment video:

Compare to the hilarious one from 2007:

  46. the only thing i’d change is – being an island – involve some cliffs.

  47. i’ll take that back actually as i didn’t notice it was for rangers – a little more macho/psycho is probably better for that.

  48. John Gruskos says

    “a global force for good”

The exact opposite of Stephen Decatur’s famous toast “My country, right or wrong.”

  49. Mark Ames and Matt Taibbi chronicled their time in Russia in the 1990’s abusing and exploiting women. What princes they are.

Hmmm, interesting and informative. So these are the guys who were the role models for Roosh the Iranian exploiter of poor Slavic females, who in turn is the role model for the numerous evil incel autists who constitute the internet base of the alt-right (alongside the asian-fetishists).

Perhaps Ames and Taibbi can also be credited with the general slavophilia (especially Russophilia) that characterizes the alt-right?

  50. Taibbi’s father, NBC reporter Mike Taibbi, was born out of wedlock in Hawaii, to a Filipino-Hawaiian mother named Camila Salinas, and later at the age of 7 adopted by a couple with the last name Taibbi. So Matt Taibbi is part jungle Asian.

Fascinating. Who knew? It’s strange how most, or at least very many, of the leaders and icons of the Eurocentric alt-right have non-euro connections either through ancestry or marriage or sexual fetish.

Another example: Andrew Anglin had a powerful fetish for Filipinos before he became the iconic neo-nazi troll and a beloved leader of the alt-right. He even joined a jungle tribe in the Philippines but unfortunately for him wasn’t completely accepted, so he settled for second best. Anglin actually looks like a depigmented mulatto.

  51. China: Emphasis on duty & sacrifice.

USA: Jump into a video game! Zoom! Boom! Wow!

    We’re screwed.

  52. SNL “The Navy”

  53. Matt Taibbi is not part of the alt-right though.

  54. David Davenport says

Has anyone watched all 14 minutes and 59 seconds of that Royal Marines recruiting vid?

Me, I couldn’t last longer than 2:59. … Found myself getting sleepy, very sleepy. The right Royal NPC Marines.

The Gabon video is much better, although it is disappointing that they probably edited out the part where the Gabonese men and women were twerking each other.

    Yo Diggity!

  55. China fell hook, line, and sinker for the American meme that all-volunteer militaries are superior to conscript forces.

For expeditionary wars, absolutely long-service volunteers are FAR superior to conscripts. There is simply no comparison.

However, this creates two problems. The military becomes a state-within-a-state as the Germans used to say and there emerges a chasm between the military and the civilian population at large, to the detriment of both.

    “Mass serves to confuse.”

“Manpower” is just a logistical drain unless it is trained, equipped, motivated, and led well. That is hard to scale. That is why, even within the all-volunteer U.S. forces, SOCOM is now increasingly bearing the lion’s share of actual combat in mission that matter.

  56. China: Emphasis on duty & sacrifice.

USA: Jump into a video game! Zoom! Boom! Wow!

    We’re screwed.

How’s this for a title? “The Torch of the Annihilation of Communism” Pretty bombastic, eh?
    https://youtu.be/TjiWjbgVzM0

  57. Spisarevski says

“The Torch of the Annihilation of Communism”

This is one of the most communist sounding tunes I’ve heard, lol.

  58. This is the one that really stands out from the rest. Mainly because of the singer. His swagger is fun to watch. Before he started singing I thought he was French and the video would be about the Foreign Legion.

  59. Spisarevski says

numerous evil incel autists who constitute the internet base of the alt-right (alongside the asian-fetishists).

Perhaps Ames and Taibbi can also be credited with the general slavophilia (especially Russophilia) that characterizes the alt-right?

Maybe you are onto something. I like Russian and East Asian chicks, and I also like Russia and the East Asian countries. Coincidence??!?

Which would also explain why nobody likes niggers. Because they’re ugly.

  60. John Burns, Gettysburg Partisan says

Exactly, my dear educator in Russian nationalism. Exactly.

THIS is what a real American nationalist warrior looks like:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Winters

    Glory to Pennsylvania

  61. heh, awesome

  62. John Burns, Gettysburg Partisan says

Have you read Women in the Military by Brian Mitchell? I highly endorse it. (He’s now an Orthodox priest, of all things – interesting fellow). I don’t much like the volunteer military either, but let’s remember that we only “needed” the draft in the first place because of the insane imperialist trajectory we took after 1898, and especially after Roosevelt.

If America had a reasonable, sort of pre-Wilson/FDR foreign policy, and a more traditional/less gender dysphoric society, we could get by with a smaller volunteer force. But we created nukes, and all this other bullshit, so I don’t reckon my dreams of the government envisioned by my heroes, like Coolidge and Patrick Henry, will ever come true. I guess we deserve it.

Funny note, though, by the way: the U.S. Army garrison at Fort Sumter consisted of a bunch of Irish immigrants (the enlisted) commanded by upper Southerners (Major Anderson, a Kentuckian) and a few Northern subordinates. This seems to have been the case for much of the 1800s; Southern officers, starving Irish emigrant enlisted men. “All-volunteer” is never going to get a cross-section of America.

  63. the thing about all volunteer armies is deciding who are you are trying to recruit – if you say “hey join the military for cheaper college tuition etc” then you’re gonna attract financial mercenaries – if you say “join the military so you can kick down furriner’s doors and machine gun them” then you’re gonna attract psychos (which is who neocons want) – if you push out “watcher on the walls” type recruitment ads then you’re gonna attract soldier-ants, which is (mostly) who you want.

  64. John Burns, Gettysburg Partisan says

I’m in my 20s. I have a lot of politically-interested paleoconservative friends who are a generation or two older than me. Despite their paleoconservatism, they have an innate love for Reagan that they can’t totally stifle. It’s some kind of 80s thing – they grew up then, believing he was doing what he said, so they still have a like for him. My political formation initially began with Reaganism, but I gradually became more aware of reality – due in no small part to reading actual Russian history, not NATO versions of it. Anyway, I’m going to shamelessly steal your last paragraph to make fun of Gipper in conversations with these people. Much obliged!

  65. John Burns, Gettysburg Partisan says

I prefer vintage Union Army boot camp to either

    😉

  66. John Burns, Gettysburg Partisan says

Speaking of disgusting Jew Roth, and speaking of vintage American nationalism, paleocon writer Bill Kauffman once wrote a delightfully vicious review of Roth’s laughable novel in which the Nazis took over America and started persecuting the jooos

    https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/heil-to-the-chief/

“Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America is the novel that a neoconservative would write, if a neoconservative could write a novel.”

    Could, lol

  67. RadicalCenter says

My so-called Slav-o-Philia comes from the fact that i have some Slavic heritage, from my appreciation of beautiful and impressive cultural and technical/scientific/medical achievements by Russians and other Slavs, and from a simple lack of any reason not to view and treat Slavic peoples and cultures fairly and generally positively.

I had never even heard of these two freaks, Ames and Taibi, before these comments.

  68. Ames and Taibbi have nothing to do with the alt-right, except (for quite different reasons) opposing American imperialism and not wanting to overthrow Putler

  69. Thorfinnsson says

For expeditionary wars, absolutely long-service volunteers are FAR superior to conscripts. There is simply no comparison.

This is Anglocentric. Other colonial powers fought successful expeditionary wars with conscripts.

And if we take expeditionary literally (I assume you mean colonial), the British Expeditionary Force found it necessary to impose conscription in 1916,

However, this creates two problems. The military becomes a state-within-a-state as the Germans used to say and there emerges a chasm between the military and the civilian population at large, to the detriment of both.

Germany had conscription except for a brief window from 1919-1935. The army was a state-within-a-state owing to Prussian traditions.

Though I do agree with the general point. Americans were much more skeptical of the military back when most Americans had actually served.

Sure. No different than having a bunch of tanks isn’t very useful without doctrine, supporting arms, training, ammunition, spare parts, fuel, etc.

  70. It won’t be long before the US defence department is advertising free sex reassignment surgery as part of the benefits of joining up.

  71. Not bad, but let’s be honest, they’re never gonna go toe to toe against Best Korea in the military songs domain.

  72. nobody likes niggers. Because they’re ugly.

Little prick, you are a Hun/Magyar. A subhuman to the Nazis. Why are you pretending to be a white nationalist?

Ugliness is in the eyes of the beholder. Unfortunately, no one who ever beheld the Huns (Romans or Germans) saw them as anything but:

    https://www.ancient.eu/Huns/

The nation of the Huns surpasses all other barbarians in wildness of life. And though [the Huns] do just bear the likeness of men (of a very ugly pattern), they are so little advanced in civilization that they make no use of fire

this savage race, which dwelt at first in the swamps, a stunted, foul and puny tribe, scarcely human and having no language save one which bore but slight resemblance to human speech.

    https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/nice-things-to-say-about-attila-the-hun-87559701/

He called himself flagellum Dei, the scourge of God, and even today, 1,500 years after his blood-drenched death, his name remains a byword for brutality. Ancient artists placed great stress on his inhumanity, depicting him with goatish beard and devil’s horns. Then as now, he seemed the epitome of an Asian steppe nomad: ugly, squat and fearsome, lethal with a bow, interested chiefly in looting and in rape. His real name was Attila, King of the Huns

  73. For Americans, “fighting for my country” means going overseas.

Which is a bit of a clue that they’re fighting for an empire rather than a nation.

  74. The 2007 Ukrainian video seems to be a copy of that awful Austrian one posted above. To be fair, the Ukrainian one is at least funnier and better made.

  75. Here’s Matt Taibbi on his ancestry:

    https://sagharborexpress.com/keoni-come-lately__trashed/

As I read about Barack Obama’s first trip back to Kenya, his late father’s home, it seemed to me his journey of self-discovery was only partly a search for the unknown components of his racial and family history. It was also the flesh on the bone to his frequent assertion during the campaign that his was a peculiarly American story. In Ireland, closing the last page of his book one midnight, sitting by the fireplace, I thought, “I guess I’m an American in that way too.”

Growing into adolescence, eventually leaving the Taibbi household and beginning a reporter’s life as a teenager, I was always oddly comfortable not knowing any more of my own story. Neither black nor white but ethnic in some undefined way, neither rich nor destitute, privileged nor isolated by class or education, I used bits of my scant biography as needed to gain entry into one different world after another.

It wasn’t until the mid-‘70s, when Alex Haley published Roots, a watershed exploration of one man’s family and racial history, that I was urged by a colleague incredulous at my lack of curiosity about my own journey to at least look for a few answers.

A month after I’d related information about the Taibbi family and the skeletal story I’d been told about my birth and infancy, I received a short letter from that official. All she could add to the few facts I’d been told, she wrote, was that my birth mother was “an attractive young Filipino-Hawaiian girl named Camila, a girl of average intelligence, all of whose siblings died in childbirth.” My father, she added, was likely “An American serviceman with the last name “Denny,” address unknown.

Sitting in my Manhattan apartment, looking through the “Records/Honolulu” file again, I was surprised by all the details I’d forgotten, though I’d surely read them before. From the emails from my “half-brother”: that his mother – my mother too, of course – was quite dark-skinned “and had often worked as many as three manual labor jobs to support the family after her first husband died.” That while she was “funny … and charming,” she had a dark and fiercely angry side too and seemed to be a “woman … full of secrets.” Apparently, I was one of them. Her father had been known on Oahu as “the Mayor of Mauna Lui,” a sort of corporate ghetto for one of Hawaii’s largest pineapple processing companies, a popular and compelling figure with one especially tragic aspect in his life: none of the six children he had with his common-law wife survived childbirth except Camila, our mother.

  76. Not bad, but let’s be honest, they’re never gonna go toe to toe against Best Korea in the military songs domain.

Best Korea’s military songs are almost always bombastic, almost comically so most of the time. The best known military song in Cuck Korea is “Sleep Well, My Comrade” below. When this plays in Cuck Korea, you can count on seeing some old veterans of the Korean War and the Vietnam War holding back their tears.
    https://youtu.be/NvPZ8XoCYV8
Stepping over the corpse of my comrade, forward, forward!
Flow away Nakdong River, we advance.
While defeating the enemy in blood-stained vengeance,
You fell like a flower petal, sleep well, my comrade.

Sweeping away the overgrown grass, forward, forward!
Goodbye, Choopoong Mountain pass, we advance.
After we shared a last cigarette on a moonlit hill,
You disappeared in its smoke, my comrade.

Climbing over mountains and crossing the waters, forward, forward!
Were you well Han River, we came back.
The blooming wild flowers welcome us,
On a hill near Nodool River where you sleep, my comrade.

Overcoming the artillery shells that fall upon us, forward, forward!
We march forward to shatter the 38th Parallel.
When I touch the dirt-stained steel helmet with my hand,
Your face comes to my mind, like a flower, like a star.

  77. I can’t believe no one has picked up on the obvious: the US recruitment video is vague and focused on dumb things because they DON’T want certain people joining up; it’s an anti-recruitment video, not a recruitment video. The last thing the US military wants to do is recruit patriotic whites, mold them into strong men, and then send them back into a multicultural population to cause trouble. Short term: the army fills slots. Long term: the US military has a glass jaw. But hey, at least they aren’t manufacturing future dissidents within the population.

  78. A belated correction:

That was written by Mike Taibbi, the father of Matt Taibbi. Stupid of me to not realize right away that it couldn’t have been Matt.
