Open Thread 83

I’ll be at the Moscow Geek Picnic this Saturday and Sunday. It will be my first time there. It seems to draw a disproportionate number of interesting Russians, so it’s worth checking it out.

The Geek Picnic is basically a yearly tech festival where technologists and futurists come together to make presentations, tech exhibits, VR simulations, etc.

This year’s theme will focus on radical life extension, with Aubrey de Grey making a guest appearance. I met him once before, at one of Hank Pellissier’s Transhuman Vision conferences in the Bay Area back in 2013 or 2014. He used to avoid giving any dates on when “Robust Human Rejuvenation” will happen, except to stress that it is contingent on funding. But he has grown more optimistic in recent years, placing it at 2037 a few months ago. It will be interesting to see if there are any updates.

Other highlights will include the founder of Pikabu (sort of like Russia’s Reddit), a couple of Russian cosmonauts, a Chinese company that is competing with Boston Dynamics, and a guy who is growing an ear on his arm.

Regular posting will resume as of next Tuesday, now that my immediate priorities – the end of the academic year, and the recent car troubles – are no longer actual.

  1. This is the current Open Thread, where anything goes – within reason.

If you are new to my work, start here.

Apologies if you’ve covered this before but very curious what the general transhumanist/futurist scene is like in Russia overall in 2019.

  3. What’s the Russian Orthodox Church thinking??

Russian Orthodox Church considers a ban on blessing weapons of mass destruction

…Last month, a Russian Orthodox Church committee on ecclesiastical law recommended that clergy concentrate on blessing soldiers, rather than weapons…

Vsevolod Chaplin, an influential priest and former spokesman for the patriarch, told the Vzglyad newspaper that nuclear weapons were the country’s “guardian angels” and necessary to preserve “Orthodox civilization.”

“Only nuclear weapons protect Russia from enslavement by the West,” Chaplin said.

  4. At various rightist fora including this one, I have at various times over the last three years said that the British nationalists were fools for backing Brexit. Now that their all but certain next Prime Minister has revealed his support for an amnesty for illegal immigrants and an Australian points system(which will be interpreted to mean the abandonment of the tens of thousands target and a browning of the intake) my vindication if clear for all to see. I hope for their sake the fool bungles the whole process and they stay in.

  5. Congratulations Hungary.

The global market for battery separators grew 20% last year on a square-meter basis, with Asahi Kasei and Toray among the leading players in the industry.

TOKYO — Toray Industries will build a factory producing separators for electric-vehicle batteries in Hungary, the first of its kind in Europe, looking to serve an expanding supply chain in a region where increasing regulations are expected to accelerate demand for environmentally friendly cars.

The Japanese manufacturer plans to invest 200 million euros ($225 million) in the factory, to be located near an existing carbon-fiber plant outside Budapest. The facility, scheduled to go online in July 2021, will boost Toray’s separator production capacity by 20%, supplementing plants in Japan and South Korea.

Do they actually bless nuclear weapons now? That is…strange, to say the least.

  7. prime noticer says

humorously, radical life extension may be coming at exactly the time that you don’t want to live for 120 years.

who wants 120 years of The Current Year? i’d rather die sooner, thanks.

the planet in 2050 looks absolutely terrible. i’m not signing up for that.

  10. Jaakko Raipala says

…Last month, a Russian Orthodox Church committee on ecclesiastical law recommended that clergy concentrate on blessing soldiers, rather than weapons…

So Russia is getting pozzed too but half a century behind the schedule. My great-uncle was a Lutheran priest during WWII and he had a really nice collection of books and manuals on appropriate blessings for guns, artillery, tanks and, yes, hand grenades.

That was all thrown out and replaced with similar feminized cop out reasoning and then all the men fled the religion. What’s the point of a supernatural belief system if it doesn’t even promise you powered up weapons? Would any King, knight or crusader have bothered with Christianity if blessings of the arms weren’t a part of the faith?

What we really need is a new religion that convinces rulers and warriors that it can bring them success in war and pursuit of power. Christianity can’t do the job anymore if even the clergy fail to believe that its blessings improve missile accuracy.

  11. I’ll try to do a post on that. I can directly compare the scenes in the US, London, and Moscow.

  12. British nationalists were fools for backing Brexit

none of the Euro nations are going to survive on their own – the globalist system needs to be brought down as a whole and the way to do that is by stressing the system as a whole.

the best thing UK nationalists can do currently is to help shift the balance of power inside the EU to reduce the weight of western europe and increase the weight of eastern and southern europe.

that shift in balance of power – especially given France is almost in civil conflict and the Merkelcide will continue to reduce Germany’s faith in the EU’s anti-european project – will hopefully boomerang to the benefit of UK nationalist’s later.

i agree in the short term it probably won’t be better and possibly worse.

  13. So I looked at Pikabu’s frontpage and this was one of the most upvoted threads.

Apparently some nigerians(!) were trying to cross into Ukraine from Belarus. Given that Ukraine is poorer than Belarus, I doubt it was the final destination. Nevertheless, it makes you think how many illegal africans there are in Belarus (and Russia) hiding out. And how many are crossing the borders from down south (or just flying to Russia on a visa and then disappearing).

  14. Told ya. You can forget about Bitcoin going to 100K. The USSA police state will prevent that. They don’t want to lose control, so they’ll make up any excuse they can. Witness Trump’s tweets yesterday on the subject; they are almost verbatim some of the excuses I’ve listed here on this website. Can’t have dissident political groups being funded, now can we? So, er uh … terrorism, and illegal activity – yeah, gotta ban that. Only approved political groups (all neoliberal, by coenkeydink) can be funded.

  17. The white nationalists have been trying some variety of Odinism for a while. Never seems to catch on.

Nationalism always has the weakness vis-a-vis internationalism/globalism that two nationalistic nations can conflict by pursuing their own interests.

Communism, while nonsupernatural, functioned as a religion for a while, and brought Russia some imperial success (you could get countries to side with Russia by preaching it and eventually overthrowing the government) until its economic foolishness caused its collapse.

For the postmodern nationalists? No clue. Islam actually seems to work pretty well in terms of asabiyya but does bad things to your scientific ability.

If I really wanted to troll everyone here, I’d suggest Judaism–supporting your tribe is OK, you’re allowed to use deception, and it doesn’t seem to harm your scientific ability. Moneymaking ability is definitely unimpaired. You just have to make sure you get a country first.

Seriously, I’d suggest looking at China–they seem to have no problem propagating their interests, and are proud of their heritage. They balance the best aspects of socialism and capitalism from a national point of view.

  18. Budd Dwyer says

the globalist system needs to be brought down as a whole and the way to do that is by stressing the system as a whole.

Agree. Worse is better. And as part of a creative destruction and a reordering there is no quicker way to reach this stage than wild-ass spending, immigration, wars, leftist political and social agitation, etc. But the right can’t ease up on its rhetoric or fighting for conservative values if only because it raises the level of insanity on the left and center and increases the push to tear it all down. Did you ever hear of abolishing ICE under Obama? Or free healthcare for non-U.S. citizens?

  19. Haruto Rat says

They tried blessing space launchers but it didn’t work out well, so perhaps they’ve finally realized they’re engineers of souls and not rocket scientists.

  20. Jaakko Raipala says

Germanic neo-paganism might be more of a thing if Germany had won World War II but now it’s all associated with the most demonized losers in all of history so it appeals only to outcasts and weirdos who want to be outside mainstream society. But then, neo-paganism isn’t doing that well outside of Germanic countries so maybe all that national romanticism would look old fashioned today even if Germany had won.

There is definitely something to be learned from the Jews and their history of maintaining identity in urban settings. Paganism was always local and it couldn’t survive moving away from the sacred groves. Christianity was well adapted to the agrarian society that existed according to variations of a similar formula from Roman times to the industrial age but it has completely failed to survive the transition from rural agrarian societies to industrial cities. Jews have done extremely well in the transition to modern societies because they were the only ones with a cultural toolkit that worked in urban life.

It’s a shame that scientology is associated with such ridiculous beliefs and scams. It’s the most successful postmodern religion and it clearly has a lot of the right recipes. Celebrities and lawyers have become some of the most important classes in modern society and we probably can’t change that so recruiting them should be an extremely high priority. If you start a new white people religion you definitely need celebrities and lawyers on your side or you’ll have no defense against Jewish celebrities and lawyers….

I have some ideas and visions myself but I’d need some charismatic and extroverted guy with to be the actual prophet…

  27. after they destroy America the banking mafia intend to move to Hong Kong so they want to keep it as a separate legal entity with no right of extradition to China.

the banking mafia own half the factories in China and could trash the Chinese economy at any time unless China nationalizes them all.

Xi can’t nationalize them yet cos it would start a war.

  28. Germanic neo-paganism might be more of a thing if…

i think the potentially most useful meta-religion for euro diaspora is not exactly ancestor worship but ancestral reverence.

    – classical pagan
    – own regional Christianity (or multiple Christianities e.g. Cath then Prod)
    – enlightenment

French Police Reported Nearly 900 Acts Of Anti-Catholic Vandalism In 2018. What Is Going On?

French police reported 129 thefts and 877 acts of vandalism in Catholic spaces in 2018, but neither the Church nor French media are calling attention to the widespread incidents, reported RealClearInvestigations Wednesday.

“We do know that the government has downplayed the official figures for years … The French government and media seem to be mostly complicit in their silence, perhaps because the Church and Christianity is seen as a historically powerful majority,” Ellen Fantini of the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an email Thursday.

PARIS — A preliminary investigation found no evidence to suggest that a fire that gutted large parts of Notre Dame Cathedral was criminal, the prosecutor’s office said Wednesday.

The prosecutor’s office said in a statement that several hypotheses about the cause of the April 15 blaze include a malfunctioning electrical system or a smoldering cigarette — to be further investigated in a new probe.

Hong Kong also benefits from being treated differently from the PRC. However, it’s not going to work if it becomes just another Chinese province. I think the US has a law that the Department of State has to certify each year that Hong Kong is still sufficiently autonomous to be treated differently. Currently there’s a special trade treaty (and maybe a visa waiver, too?) with Hong Kong, and maybe other treaties and agreements, too, and this makes it highly beneficial for China to keep the status quo.

  43. Do you guys really prefer stasis to dynamism?

i assume you mean the various alt-right type factions who want to “go back.”

the idea behind that is various aspects of modernity are bad* and so on balance the tech progress wasn’t worth it.

(* one simple example is civilization traded a small number of very healthy people for a much larger number of less healthy people -> more military power)

i think it’s fairly easy to make the case for the first part although i disagree with the second.

thing is if you go back to a level of technology suited to whichever era prior to the one where you feel it went wrong (paleo, bronze age, feudal etc) then unless the whole world does the same at the same time then you’re going to be invaded…

so it’s not a viable option.

so unless you can take the whole world back to the same era and make it permanent then the only way to go back is to go forward (while analyzing and then keeping in mind what was lost).

    hi-tech bronze age

  47. So that’s his story. How did you know that?

I’ve been occasionally popping in at Al Fin for 6 or 7 years wondering why an American who is not obviously Jewish is so desperate to make readers believe that Russia is on its last legs. Not disclosing his ethnic background like that, whilst pushing such a narrative, is incredibly Jewy.

On a side note it’ll be interesting to see how Polish right wingers react if Israel – backed by the USA – continues to push the Polish-death-camps!!!-give-us-$$$$-or else agenda. Will they continue licking American balls? ‘Enquiring minds want to know’.

Also leaving the EU may well lead to a break up of the UK and a united Ireland 🙂

As for EU collapse, possible I suppose, but if that did happen how long would it take for another entity like the EU to emerge ?

Is AlFin Polish? I always wondered who he is. Other than his location being in “Cayman Islands”, I know no other personal details about him. Needless to say, he is my all time favorite blogger.

He’s always had a bug up his ass about Russia for the 10 years I’ve been reading his blog. Several years ago I asked him why he was so obsessed with Russia and if he was in fact Russian. His only reply was that “it is more complicated than that” and left it at that.

Aside from his bug about Russia, his blog expresses a world-view that is very similar to that of alt-right and other “right” types. I would think you guys would be totally into what he as to say (aside from Russia, of course). Yet when I bring him up on very alt-right blogs, a lot of the responses seem to be quite negative. I fail to understand the reasoning for such negativity.

  50. Abelard Lindsey says

My choice to “go back” would be to the 1980’s. I thought U.S. culture and society was perfectly functional in the 1980’s, especially the dating game. Technology, of course, I want to go forward, especially with bio-engineering (radical life extension and regeneration), space colonization, and fusion power.

Technology is a tool, nothing more and nothing less. Its true that the internet platforms are being too “publisher-like” and censoring content, among other things. This ought to spur the development of internet 3.0 as a truly decentralized system, development of alternative platforms, and any other kind of technology that increases one’s freedom and autonomy.

The number one technology to increase autonomy and freedom is, of course, anti-aging life extension. The aging process, more than anything like collectivist politics, is the number one cause of the loss of freedom and autonomy. So anyone who seeks freedom and autonomy should want to solve this problem first. Then you will have the ability and, more importantly, the time to go about pursuing all your other life objectives as well as freedom from leftist/collectivist politics. I am continually mystified by the failure of many alt-right types to intuitively understand this dynamic.

  51. Continually pushing an obviously wrong narrative on Russia and current Russian affairs destroys his credibility on the whole.

The Chinese won’t conquer Russia for the same reason the USA hasn’t conquered Canada: buying natural resources and crops is much less trouble than military occupation.

The main source of tension between Canada and the USA is that some in the USA claim that Canada is selling wood to the USA for too low a price.

  55. Technology is a tool, nothing more and nothing less.

i don’t think that’s always true – sometimes technology creates the conditions for new social forms and some of those forms may be worse than what came before.

however i don’t see how any individual nation or civilization can go back on its own without being invaded by those who retain the technology so seems to me the only way to do it is catalog what you feel was better and then figure out how to bring it back within the current frame.

for example i put a lot of weight on the “goodness” of reducing child mortality but reducing child mortality is clearly dysgenic in the long term so wat do?

  56. As for EU collapse, possible I suppose, but if that did happen how long would it take for another entity like the EU to emerge ?

the non-malign element among the original founders of the EU were focused on controlling the spirit that led to two world wars – a 21st century EU weighted more to the south and east would be more inclined to siege of vienna type thinking imo.

  57. Mitleser says

Reducing dysgenic problems via bio tech.

  58. Abelard Lindsey says

No, I find that I agree with him on a lot of the other things he writes about. Setting Russia aside, his general thinking about the rest of the world is little different than most of you guys in here. His world-view is what I would call a “competence-based” conservatism. That is, a very “heinleinian” outlook.

I don’t know about Russia enough to make any comments about what he says about Russia, however. As I said before, he’s really got a bug up his ass about Russia, which makes me think its personal.

  59. Abelard Lindsey says

    You think?

All of these alt-right types whine incessantly about dysgenics. They whine about how all the stupid people are having most the kids, or the less intelligent races moving into the West. Yet, you present them with a technology to solve the frigging problem and they turn their noses up at it. It make you wonder if they really want to solve the problem, or if they’re simply using the existence of such a problem as nothing more than an excuse to get people to give up personal and/or economic liberty. If its the latter, then the right is no different than the liberal-left in this regard.

She previously claimed that Liaoning would be sold to Pakistan despite the fact that the ship itself is probably worth as much as the annual budget of the Pakistani armed forces. Even if the chinese cannot develop domestic reactors that are similar in power to russian or american reactors, they can just squeeze a bunch of submarine reactors into the ship just like on the USS enterprise( 8 reactors!) or settle for less speed with only 2 submarine reactors like the french did with the Charles De Gaulle.

Can someone explain the word ‘svidomite’ to me? I asked two Russian girls and got only blank looks

Comes from the Polish “swiadomi” which means conscious, aware; i.e. someone who is nationally aware.

It’s a specific, acute form of PMB (phimosis of the main brain), spread among Ukrainain patriots, that can especially progress only in a descendant of a Proto-Ukr who has a skull in the shape of a pot from the Cucuteni–Trypillia culture .

  72. songbird says

Anyone else see that Johnson & Johnson commercial with the two homos?

I don’t believe I can quote from it verbatim, but here is the gist: we are not just a company for babies anymore. We are working on a vaccine for HIV.

I have seen some really decadent commercials before, but I think this one topped them all. They were virtue-signaling fags in preference to babies.

  73. Thorfinnsson says

I guess we can add fagwashing to greenwashing as a staple of corporate public relations.

Obviously this is intended to divert focus from the contaminated (adulterated?) baby powder scandal.

  74. songbird says

The absurdity of the thing paired with all the other fag commercials for other companies makes me wonder about the similar-sounding SC Johnson, supposedly still family-owned, but a multinational.

Of course, they are probably only a tenth the size. And I know they are privately-held. But they used (at least a very long time ago) to heavily promote that their HQ as being in Racine, Wisconsin. Like a kind of nationalistic pride for Middle America.

Have they also fagged out recently? I don’t know. But, if anyone knows, I’d be curious.

Maybe, it has something to do with corporate structure, or HQ location. I bet that the S&P 500 are heavily lobbied by pressure groups. But, then again, many smaller companies also fag-out.

  75. Thorfinnsson says

S.C. Johnson is still based in Racine in the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright campus.

Unlike Johnson & Johnson, S.C. Johnson rarely the corporation itself. Instead, the brands are promoted. Not many people are likely aware that the same company owns Windex, Raid, Off, Kiwi, Drano, and so forth.

Probably the most iconic brand they own is Ziploc–as in zipper-lock bags.

    https://ziploc.com

On their website at least the focus seems to be on children. Diverse children of course.

Windex’s website appears to have traditional families on it.

Sometimes the companies themselves don’t have any choice–or at least it’s presented to them as if they have no choice.

Homintern made Barilla, Italy’s family-owned pasta manufacturer, kiss the ring after their CEO said he wouldn’t use homo-sexuals in branding. Here’s a disturbing article in Bloomberg Businessweek about it: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2019-05-07/barilla-pasta-s-turnaround-from-homophobia-to-national-pride

Currently Homintern is targeting the German skincare company Nivea after they repeatedly rejected a homo-sexual advertising campaign: https://www.newsweek.com/nivea-homophobic-gay-1446899

So far Nivea isn’t bending over. Note that Nivea’s parent company simply refuses to comment on the matter, which is a pro move.

The Kirov class n reactor has been out of production for 20+ years and one wonders what unforeseen problems will be encountered in the Ulyanovsk class if the French experience with the CDG is anything to go by.

The Indian Navy was briefly considering making the upcoming the INS Vishal class carrier nuclear but has since apparently settled for a conventionally powered design along the lines of the new British aircraft carriers.

  85. Check out Steve Sailer. Ted Lieu said nothing about increasing immigration, and in fact said nothing particularly un-American at all. Yet, Steve jumps on him based on a figment of Steve’s imagination.

    http://www.unz.com/isteve/immigrant-narcissism/

Steve Sailer must be very frustrated that he cannot find anything to bash Andrew Yang about.

As I have said before, Steve is a 100 IQ blogger catering to an 80 IQ audience.

  86. Thorfinnsson says

Growing up in America, I had people tell me to go back to China. Those folks did not understand America.

What makes America great is that an immigrant like me can serve in our military & now serve in Congress where I will question Mueller about the felonies committed by @POTUS. https://twitter.com/Acosta/status/1150435160174866432

Ted Lieu is criticizing old stock (or at least Ellis Island) Americans for not “understanding” that what’s great about America is that a foreigner can serve in its government.

In a narrow sense it’s true that Lieu didn’t call for increasing immigration, but implied in his tweet is that the mission of America is to be taken over by foreigners.

I don’t think Steve Sailer bashes Andrew Yang because he’s a thoughtful man. Ted Lieu on the other hand is embarrassing.

You’re off on the IQ scores by two or three standard deviations, no doubt as part of your weird schtick.

  88. You’re off on the IQ scores by two or three standard deviations, no doubt as part of your weird schtick.

This has been pointed out by a number of people beyond just me. For example, Steve Sailer knows embarrassingly little about science (such as the approximate distance of the Moon and Sun from Earth). Fine, he isn’t a science blogger, but still. Most of Steve’s posts are merely gossip, nothing more.

In a narrow sense it’s true that Lieu didn’t call for increasing immigration, but implied in his tweet is that the mission of America is to be taken over by foreigners.

I don’t think he said that. It is a safe bet that just about every Democrat wants that, but this Tweet alone is nothing of the sort.

What is Unz.com take on the UFO question?

Interest in UFO and aliens largely ceased since 9/11 and spread of the cell phones, but lately, we have seen that the mainstream media want to revive it.

I think these advertising agencies really need to be boycotted. There are so few top ones, and they seem to get all the business, and run crazy globohomo ads. I’d go small and independent, or at least hire a Jap firm or something.

I haven’t done the research, but I swear they are even making commercials for the Arabs. I was really shocked to see an Emirates commercial recently. White father, black mother and daughter. Girl mentions her uncle – it is a white guy with an Asian girlfriend. This really surprised me because Dubai is supposed to have its own media center, and you’d think that they would be reluctant to put money in the hands of what seems to be a heavily Jewish-influenced industry.

  136. How false history is created, an example from the Czech Republic. From today’s Czech language newspaper.

Now 88 years old Czech woman claimed to be victim of Soviet gulags. At the end of WWII Soviet army dragged her away from city of Brno to Siberia. There she was repeatedly raped and saw horrors like burning sick people in sheds or burying them alive.

In reality, she was civilian contract worker in the Urals, between years 1946 – 1964. In year 2002 Czech Republic decided to grant compensation to the victims of gulag. The old woman sensed an opportunity, and invented the story. She didn’t get the desired financial compensation (due to lack of any documentation), but she wrote a book, was invited to talk about her experience in schools and was awarded couple of medals. Being perceived as a victim of modern bureaucracy as well, many people send her money.

However, an historian decided to verify her story and discovered that archived documents say something completely else. This year he published 15 pages long study about it.

  142. False history is created consciously because it serves a political purpose. This woman made up horror stories about Gulag, she has spent years telling them to kids in schools, including ‘sex orgies’ that were according to her very common in Gulag. She has served her role.

To add: the woman’s mother was a Russian living in Brno since 1920’s – a common criminal by profession. During WWII she declared herself as ethnically German and was a known collaborator with Nazis. At the end of the war, she run away and moved back to her family in Russia – that’s how her daughter ended up living and working there for 20 years. No Gulag.

This was well known by all around her and they said so, but having a teary story about Gulag was more desirable. I suspect that as with most false-flag hate crimes, a very large percentage of the horror stories taught to us are a similar combination of opportunism, lying and political expediency. It is also done quite knowingly.

It is sad that there is much lesser demand for gulag stories than holocaust stories, but this is changing.
See the rising tide of anti-Soviet propaganda (Chernobyl, Stranger things, etc…)just in time after 30 years of fall of USSR – we are seeing the birth of Gulag Industry.

This woman came out too early. Just few years more, and she could become world famous writer, win Nobel prize and get her story be made into Hollywood blockbuster.
Wall to wall gore, torture and sadistic sex orgies – this is exactly what the spectators want.

  144. not a creation of false history, but just one woman’s fake history

You are being glib. If you look at data, a very large percentage of so-called ‘victim‘ stories is false or heavily exaggerated – often they omit key facts about their own behaviour. Today that is true about the endless hate crime hoaxes where made-up stories seem to approach 100%.

Some of it is inevitable because people crave simplistic narratives, but intelligent discussion should stay sober, consider that people have incentives to make up things, and apply normal due diligence.

I was once told that it’s impossible to regard a tragedy from two points of view. That was an excuse to basically lie about history. I get the point that people who have suffered – or were told that their families suffered – will insist on the right to live in their own mythology. (Ukrainians do it a lot, but so do many others.) I prefer to live in truth, the only religion worth having, other than the pageantry of the Easter mass :).

All of the symbolism and pageantry of the Orthodox church is there to point to some deeper truth. It’s a joy to be able to put it all together, although it’s not absolutely necessary. The most important function of the Orthodox church is to allow its community of Christian believers to congregate and take part in communion. A reading of the gospels is also a part of the mass, as is a discussion of the reading by the priest (presbyter).

‘The Orthodox Church is evangelical, but not Protestant. It is orthodox, but not Jewish. It is catholic, but not Roman. It isn’t non-denominational – it is pre-denominational. Of course, the most obvious way to have proven this would be of children born with features from some of the non-slavic fighters of the Red Army ( at their highest % in 1945, of course) who would have inevitably “raped” and impregnated them……none exist.

This is a substantially better prediction of fertility than one gets from measures of gross national product per capita (indicated by an index of purchasing power parity) or indices of female education.

Lol it’s true. Fascinating. The social norm that seemed unbreakable to demographers as late as the 1970s (The Limits to Growth overpopulation panic), defeated in no time by a glowing box.

  148. …comedy “mass-rape” lies propagated by some POS German idiots against the Red Army during their liberation of Berlin…the ” 2 million rapes” BS was based on a mathematical formula

When that narrative started a few years back, my first reaction was that it had to be a result of a strategic brainstorm with a goal to advance demonization of Russia, confuse the inconvenient result of WWII (Russia won), and create an emotional break between Russians and Germans. The whole story looked like a cheap psychological warfare initiative. It was picked up by the usual work-horses of Western geo-political initiative, the esteemed UK ‘professors’ of history. It was also right after the ‘Serbs run rape camps!‘ hysteria, so in a way, it was trying to build on that foundation and capture some of the feminist and liberal indignation.

I don’t think it worked. The narrative was too embarrassing, had too many unforeseen consequences, and it in a way demeaned Germans. It was also an obvious nonsense – it physically could not had happened that way. But the underlying goal of creating a confusion about WWII has continued. I am waiting for the ‘Russians collaborated in Holocaust’ narrative.

The problem is that what happened in WWII was so diametrically opposite to what the Western propaganda and geo interests require now, is that without some extreme lying that would also require censorship, it is virtually impossible to pull off currently. But they will keep on trying, they have to – the reality cannot coexist with the strategic goals.

  149. You are being glib. If you look at data, a very large percentage of so-called ‘victim‘ stories is false or heavily exaggerated – often they omit key facts about their own behaviour.

Do you limit this to stories about victims of Communism or do you extend this to victim stories about UPA, or from Czech victims of Germans?

  150. Through my relatives I’ve become acquainted (on Facebook) with a bunch
of good-looking Ukrainian girls who are by now permanently settled in Warsaw.
I get the sense that what they like best about Poland is how close it is to the
rest of Europe. They go crazy when they travel to Amsterdam or Spain, and post
pictures of themselves smoking joints or frolicking on the beach. They
switch back and forth between Ukrainian and Polish, and I can see how much
closer Ukrainian is to Polish, as compared to Russian. For example, ‘dyakuyu’
(Ukr), ‘dziękuję’ (Pol) vs. ‘spasibo’ (Rus), meaning ‘thank you.’

  151. I don’t limit anything, I always want to know the truth.

The problem with doubting Czech victims of Germans is that it was too visible, too proudly done by the Germans, and it is seldom a case of just an individual narrative – those, if they are unsupported I tend to doubt in all circumstances.

It would be unseemly to doubt what happened in Lidice. It was filmed, recorded and Germans never denied it. Most Czech victims in WWII fall into that category of a very public undoubtable atrocity. There is a massive difference in the level of atrocities that really happened under the Germans, and even the accusations – very often disproved or heavily exaggerated – that happened under the communists. It was one or two orders of magnitude worse under the Germans.

I don’t know about UPA in detail. I do know from my our local records and from my grandparents that Bandera bands from Western Ukraine committed atrocities as they were fighting their way across Czechoslovakia – again, these are not only individual stories, but well documented archives with specifics.

You try to equate all thinking and analysis, as if the specifics didn’t matter. That’s rather infantile. The level of knowledge, the nature of records, and the general veracity of these events vary very widely. It only gets confused in the lazy thinking by people who have agendas – so they will intentionally deceive by mixing up what we know. That is not serious – in spite of the fact that you provide reasoned arguments and facts, you seem to have a strong agenda and you don’t mind playing cheap tricks in the discussion.

  152. Pericles says

    Nice reference.

  153. Thorfinnsson says

Appears that Hendrik Verwoerd was right yet again.

  154. The problem with doubting Czech victims of Germans is that it was too visible, too proudly done by the Germans, and it is seldom a case of just an individual narrative – those, if they are unsupported I tend to doubt in all circumstances.

You were quick to claim all ~70,000 Czech casualties during the war were murdered by Germans, when the actual number was a little over 30,000.

I don’t know about UPA in detail. I do know from my our local records and from my grandparents that Bandera bands from Western Ukraine committed atrocities as they were fighting their way across Czechoslovakia – again, these are not only individual stories, but well documented archives with specifics.

Archived stories. As in the case of evidence of many communist atrocities.

It seems the lady who faked her gulag experience also gave specifics about gang rapes, etc.? Kosovo Albanians who often faked experiences also gave specifics sufficient to produce claims of 100,000 “victims.”

So it seems you easily believe atrocities by anti-communists (as evidenced by you jumping on the 70,000 figure for Czechs murdered by Germans which is about double the actual number) but are more skeptical of claimed atrocities by Communists, a double standard.

  155. When that narrative started a few years back, my first reaction was that it had to be a result of a strategic brainstorm with a goal to advance demonization of Russia, confuse the inconvenient result of WWII (Russia won), and create an emotional break between Russians and Germans.

A few years back? The stories of mass rapes by Red army soldiers began in 1945 – at the latest. It took a while from them to spread because the Americans suppressed any bad news about their favourite ally at the time.

  156. …claim all ~70,000 Czech casualties during the war were murdered by Germans, when the actual number was a little over 30,000.

That’s simply not true. It has been shown to you that the number of victims was 50-100k. Your distinction between murdered, massacred or killed make no sense – Czechs were civilians. there was no famine, this was straight-forward brutality.

Kosovo Albanians who often faked experiences also gave specifics sufficient to produce claims of 100,000 “victims.”

Kosovo was an extreme case of an exaggerated victim-mongering. But almost all of it – e.g. the 100k number – was done by the Western media and politicians. Kosovars themselves made up a few stories, but in general they were bashful about the claims. The Western ability to lie in this area is
    unique.

My skepticism about comparing German and communist atrocities in Czechoslovakia is based on the fact that Germans killed about 100 times more people, more brutally and in a short time than communists in 45 years. No sane person would claim anything else. Many of the 500 or so cases assigned to communists turned out to be something else: war criminals, commies killing other commies for power, few bank robbers. You are way off with you attempts at analogies and you do it for political reasons.

  157. The Orthodox Church is evangelical, but not Protestant. It is orthodox, but not Jewish. It is catholic, but not Roman. It isn’t non-denominational – it is pre-denominational.

Nice. As a Protestant I have no evangelical ambitions, maybe that’s why we have become a minority over time. I am also not too fond of the sobriety of our gatherings, but – going back to the pre-denominational state sounds like an excellent (unworkable) idea.

  158. .

..mass rapes by Red army soldiers began in 1945

Right. 2 million German women. Nice stories, I am sure some of it even happened.

You know what? After what Germans did in the east, I almost wish it had happened. But it mostly didn’t.

  159. Abelard Lindsey says

I’ve got a question for all of you alt-right types:

I learned some years ago that the number of white collar jobs overtook that of blue collar jobs (one’s that require physical labor) by the mid 1950’s. Since everyone knows that working out often and being physically fit makes you feel better and is generally good for health, why did the fitness revolution not start until the late 1970’s, more than 20 years after this crossover point?

Is that fitness is good for you knowledge that was only discovered in the late 1970’s?

  160. It’s like “Stalin killed many millions of people” claims, which is often written here.

We know around 800,000 people were executed directly, in the whole 1920-1950s. And another proportion died indirectly (while in working camps).

The numbers are very bad, but they have to be randomly multiplied to crazy figures for political rhetoric in our time.

  161. Mr. Hack says

I’m not quite sure what you have in mind when you say that you have ‘no evangelical ambitions’. In my mind the idea of ‘evangelical’ is related to ‘evangelisation’ that means to go out into the world and ‘spread the gospel’ like missionaries do. But actually, the two terms, although related, have slightly different meanings. ‘Evangelical’ per se means:

of or according to the teaching of the gospel or the Christian religion.
synonyms: scriptural, biblical, Bible-believing, fundamentalist, orthodox
    “evangelical Christianity”

The Orthodox church generally doesn’t exhibit strong tendencies to ‘evangelicise’ to the outside world of non-believers, however, it is certainly ‘evangelical’.

  162. Rapes were occurring so that commanders are early making commands to stop them.

It resulted soon in directives of the Supreme Command Heads, condemning indiscipline, including significant punishments, up to executions. Zhukov has immediately issued directives against abuse of the German population in January,

So, of course, such bad things happened. At the same time, documentary evidence of they brought it to low number, and by May numbers of such incidents were low.

    https://war-tundra.livejournal.com/3245596.html

  163. I meant the both: ‘evangelisation’ or missionary process doesn’t appeal to me.

Regarding evangelical, there is an element of exclusivity by focusing on a single scripture – that doesn’t seem rational. I am also not a big fan of myths and stories from the Middle East long time ago. We have plenty of our myths and stories closer to home, closer to who we are.

  164. If you read a comment of Jaako Raipala, here.

He is one of the unusual writers here who has a higher IQ, and said (he may have copied from me) “Alt-right” are simply following a structure of Marxist conspiracy theory.

Just relabel a few categories: Jews are bourgeoisie, who create “false consciousness” (for their own interest). Black/browns are lumpenproletariat, who are used by the bourgeois to smash the proletariat (so i.e. used by Jews to smash the American white people).

American white people are equivalent to Marx’s proletariat, of course,in this alt-right theory.

“Red pill” refers to Marx’s “class consciousness”.

History repeats first as tragedy (Marxism), and then as various lower-grade comedies (feminism, postcolonialism, alt-right, etc).

In Marxism, modern consciousness is created by labour condition, while in alt-right it is apparently created by racial categories of the American census of 2010

So a shift of labour that you are talking about, like the change to white-collar working conditions of 1950s America (which Marxists probably say something interesting about) – cannot be important, because it doesn’t relate to main categories (e.g. American racial categories) from which this new variant of theory itself is constructed.

  165. The fact that the numbers are multiplied for political effect in the West is rather troubling – it undermines the rational and fairness self-image that they like to preach to the others.

When challenged, the purveyors of huge numbers tend to lose all sense of proportion, either going into emotional blackmail (‘how can anyone!!!“), or randomly adding millions of people who died during that time, or who were not born (that’s a really good one), to the victim list. You can come up with 100 million if you want to – a lot of people die around the world or are not born. There are people who claim that Britain in India was responsible for 100 million dead, and there is a way to show it with all the early deaths, unborn, etc…

How many people died (‘were victims’) of the Great Depression in the 30’s? Was it millions of premature deaths, lack of medical care, millions who were not born? We can all play this game.

The actual numbers are bad enough, inflating them mindlessly cheapens and devalues the whole process. These are usually also people who are very quick to minimize any killing on their own side. There should be a standard, unfortunately it has been politicised.

  166. The stories of mass rapes by Red army soldiers began in 1945 – at the latest. It took a while from them to spread because the Americans suppressed any bad news about their favourite ally at the time.

Village Namendorf was captured by the red Army in 1944, and then recaptured by the Germans during the counterattack. Official Commission of 3 Reich discovered the deaths of 26 civilians (of the approximately 600 inhabitants of the village) – it was announced that they were deliberately killed by soldiers of the red Army ( according to the Commission, mysteriously, there was completely absent accidental civilian casualties during the fighting ). This is official German Nazi propaganda.

    What does English propaganda write?

Women of East Prussia, no doubt, heard about the victims of Nemmersdorf …. In Germany, then showed the terrible footage Chronicles, which depicted the corpses of sixty-two women and young girls raped and killed by Soviet soldiers

The first Russian invasion of Eastern Germany occurred in October 1944, when parts of the red Army captured several border villages. Five days later, they were knocked out, and before the eyes of Nazi soldiers appeared indescribable picture. Hardly a civilian escaped death at the hands of Russian soldiers. Women were crucified on the doors of sheds and overturned carts or, raped and crushed by tank tracks. Their children were also brutally murdered. Forty French prisoners of war who worked in the surrounding farms, were shot by “liberators”. The same fate befell on the recognized German Communists. The actions of the red army were not a manifestation of senseless cruelty — it was a methodical sadism»

do you now understand how English propaganda works?

err no…..it began in the early stages of Barbarossa and was used to cajole their military and public – numerous posters on the order of Goebbels were produced by the Nazis depicted a Red Army soldier ( depicted more like an unshaven bloodthirsty, dirty Mongolian/Turkic cross, then with any slavic features) in the process of raping a young, beautiful woman

….and why would the enemy be reliable witnesses over this “rape” nonsense you cretin?
Americans suppressed their own rape stats – not the other way round. I also think any black GI who involved himself with a german woman was classified as a rapist by his own country!

  173. “…claim all ~70,000 Czech casualties during the war were murdered by Germans, when the actual number was a little over 30,000.”

There you go again, deliberately confusing “casualties” with “murdered, massacred.”

Here is a breakdown of casualties by cause of death:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20080130210120/http://www.kcprymarov.estranky.cz/clanky/druha-svetova-valka/jak-to-bylo-se-ztratami-cs_-obyvatel-za-2_-sv_-valky

Czech victims of murder/massacre by Germans:

    8,500 executed
20,000 died in concentration camps, prisons, death marches
    3,000 died in labor camps

So 31,500 can be said to have been murdered.

(although at least some of those may have been criminals; a family friend who lived in Prague during the war once told me that Germans would shoot looters on the spot)

But these casualties are not victims of murder:

victims of fighting in Czech lands, mainly in May 1945: 8,000
    died in bombings: 4,000
German and Czech anti-fascists died in the breakaway border region: 1,000
Czechoslovak soldiers on the Eastern Front: 5,600
Czechoslovak soldiers fell on other fronts: 1,200

Another 19,000 died during the Slovak national uprising (so wouldn’t count as Czech losses).

So when it comes to victims of Communism, you are skeptical. But when it comes to victims of anti-Communists, you double (or more) the number of people murdered.

  174. We know around 800,000 people were executed directly, in the whole 1920-1950s

IIRC this was the figure for the number of execution orders given. Of course people were also executed without any formal orders remaining in the records. How many, I don’t know, but historians are assuming at least a couple 100,000.

And another proportion died indirectly (while in working camps).

Sure. And about 6 million in Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan were starved to death. So about 8-9 million killed in the USSR. Figures of 100 million are absurd but the truth is horrific enough.

Most of these deaths occurred before 1940 so any western European politicians preferring Hitler to Stalin at that time were not so wrong.

This is the same Stanley of the NHL’s Stanley Cup incidentally.

  177. Anonymoose says

Ancient Greeks and Romans had the gymnasium and the palaestrae more almost 3000 years ago.

  178. “Czechoslovak soldiers on the Eastern Front: 5,600” – Slovaks fighting against Red Army?

“So 31,500 can be said to have been murdered.”. – Murder requires intention of harm. I would say that many of those who died while in camps as result of diseases do not qualify as murders.

“8,500 executed” -Probably many of this cases were justified under the Geneva and Hague conventions during WWII.

Can Slovaks be accused of murdering 80,000 Jews? They paid Germany 40 million Reich Marks by the end of the war to take care of their Jewish problem.

  179. Wikipedia accurately retold all the stories about Nemmersdorf (“Soviet soldiers reportedly killed many German civilians as well as French and Belgian noncombatants.”), despite the presence of an official investigation conducted by the ranks of the SS. Because of this Wikipedia article about Metgethen also has zero value The reference on work Alfred-Maurice de Zayas also means that this propaganda (Zayas 100% a falsifierer). Don’t use Wikipedia , it’s a cesspool

  180. “So 31,500 can be said to have been murdered.”. – Murder requires intention of harm. I would say that many of those who died while in camps as result of diseases do not qualify as murders.

I would say that deaths in concentration camps, like deaths in gulags, can be considered to be murder.

“8,500 executed” -Probably many of this cases were justified under the Geneva and Hague conventions during WWII.

Yes, some % of those were probably not unjustified (looters, conspirational Commies). I can’t think of how many, however. Quite a few innocents were killed.

Can Slovaks be accused of murdering 80,000 Jews? They paid Germany 40 million Reich Marks by the end of the war to take care of their Jewish problem.

Excellent point, as usual. Paying someone to kill the Jews you hand over to them should be considered murder. So Slovaks killed more Jews, than Germans killed Czechs or Slovaks.

I am actually surprises that a sabotage of Russian oil/gas pipelines happened only in 2019 – they are a very easy potential target and even a relatively small amount of contaminant can pollute vast quantities of oil.

  183. Assuming you are Hungarian, I have one question. According to EU stats, Hungary typically allows to stay 300 – 400 migrants per year. The only exception was in 2017, when they gave permit to stay or asylum to 1,290 people.

Do you know the reason for this aberration?

  184. Jaakko Raipala says

He is one of the unusual writers here who has a higher IQ, and said (he may have copied from me) “Alt-right” are simply following a structure of Marxist conspiracy theory.

This is not a new observation and neither you or I invented it. It was a pretty standard observation by 19th century leftists. This is what the “anti-Semitism is the socialism of fools” referred to and it’s usually attributed to this German Marxist who lived before even the Nazi party existed

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Bebel

It’s an easy step from “those damn bankers” to “those damn Jewish bankers” and vice versa and it was definitely noted by many early on that much of ethnonationalist rhetotic is just the same as socialist rhetoric if you just identify class with ethnicity and wave away the exceptions (so if there’s some ethnic German banker that has the same politics as Jewish bankers you say that it’s because the Jews wouldn’t let him be a banker if he didn’t obey them etc).

Of course I personally disagree with the saying but for the reason that I think Marxist socialism is also the socialism of fools. There’s no socialism that isn’t the socialism of fools. The Marxists liked to claim that their ideology is a “scientific” analysis of the economic forces of history whereas the 19th century ethnonationalists were a spiritual movement that lumped people together based on nothing but the feeling of identity but at this point it’s clear that the Marxist claims of science were bunk and besides practical Marxism just ended up inventing new classes based on whoever the Marxist rulers felt to be their opponents (kulaks etc).

Finland, by the way, avoided this kind of anti-Semitism for the obvious reason that there are basically no Jews here but the bankers as a class were pretty ethnically distinct – a bunch of Germans and Swedes. So there was a Finnish version of “national socialism” where in the place of anti-Semitism you had anti-Germanism and you definitely had this anti-Germanic ethnonationalist element in the Finnish Reds of the Civil War, though it was muted because the Finnish Reds tended to follow Lenin’s lead in ideology, at least in public.

  185. Yes, some forms of 20th century fascism (e.g. in German, but not in Italy) already used Jewish conspiracy theory, as the replacement for Marxist’s “bourgeois conspiracy theory”, just like some forms of feminism use “men” in equivalent position.

So there was some structural similarity between 20th century German fascism and Marxism, and it was well known in the 1930s.

And it was already”lower IQ than Marxism”, because in Marxism there is embarrassment about its use of conspiracy theory, and Marx tries to present an explanation of bourgeoisie’s behaviour itself which does not rely on conspiracy (bourgeoisie are not just some kind of evil demons planning in secret to poison wells, sacrifice children, or stop the rain from falling on crops before harvest – but rather normal people, whose behaviour is product of their elite position in human production).

However, alt-right theory is not the same as 20th century German fascism.

Unlike 20th century fascism, modern alt-right copied almost completely the silly parts of Marxist’s conspiracy structure, with casting from racial groups of the United States – Jews are bourgeoisie, who are using other races (black and brown immigrants) as lumpenproletariat, to smash proletariat (homogenized American whites), who they have enslaved.

Main interest for alt-right is resisting “false consciousness” (in Marxist’s terminology of culture created by bourgeoisie for their self-interest) which is created by Jews (instead of the bourgeoisie), and is just the liberalism which you can read in New York Times or see on CNN, which apparently enslaves the proletariat (white people).

So, “false consciousness” is aligning conveniently with the belief system of political enemies of people who constitute alt-right demographics (i.e. New York Times, CNN, Democrat Party, which supports competing social justice warrior theory).

But there is no explanation for how liberalism (false consciousness created by Jews) is enslaving them.

Funniest part of it is concept “red pill”, which is an attempt to write “class consciousness” in Marxism, but is taken from trashy Matrix film, and is rather less strong than the actual pill in the film (that shows he is living in a computer simulation created to harvest humans).

“Red pill” in this forum, is just realization of the race categories (whites, Jews and browns/blacks) which constitute the theory, and their particular alignment in a conspiracy play of racial conflict.

There are also people writing here that they are “accelerationist” , which originates from Lenin’s simplication of Marx’s essay about 1848, with the view “the worst it gets, the better things are”.

Another example, is some forms of modern feminism, although there is less conspiracy there.

Here, “men” are cast as equivalent of Marx’s bourgeoisie. In this case, all history, is men programming society to oppress women in different ways.

Women of the world need to unite and embrace their “sisterhood”.

In addition, women have should enter into contact with their “femaleness” and doing all kinds of workshops related to this, or reading only women authors, or looking at women only art.

Similarly in “alt-right”, they need contact with “white culture”, by perhaps looking in the mirror, or by not watching Jewish films, listening to black music, or eating their food, etc (KFC is everywhere even in Russia, so I today if I was alt-right I could consciously avoid going to KFC, just like as a feminist I could be careful not to watch a male-directed film).

    • There is something similar in how you can put the same soap in different coloured bottles, and different people will buy same soap depending on how colour of bottle matches their self-perception.

If you put shampoo in pink bottle, then women will buy it. But men will not (as it does not match their self-perception).

If you put same theory with slightly different packaging, it can be sold to feminist women, alt-right, and even the Social Justice Warriors (whose ideology is very similar). All generally require you to feel like, and likely to be, some kind of loser though, and a bit gullible as well.

Finland, by the way, avoided this kind of anti-Semitism for the obvious reason that there are basically no Jews here

I would not be so sure. Finland has liberalism, gay rights and brown people. So it must be a lot of powerful Jews involved in Finland. If you removed their false consciousness, I’m sure all these problems would somehow disappear.

Whereas in some actual few Jewish oligarch dominated countries like Ukraine and Belarus, I’m sure there are not actually Jewish oligarchs, because there is little liberalism and few brown people.

Although to write seriously, American liberals love Finland, so I would not be too comfortable with your politics.

In reality, this is politics which comes from living in too comfortable, wealthy, welfare-state circumstances. (If Russia would one day become as rich and comfortable as Finland, and forget the difficulties of the past, the same self-indulgent liberalism will emerge within a generation).

The mongol Russians had been raping since the Communist anarchy after they machine-gunned their own Czar in 1917.

From the book Ravensbrück : everyday life in a women’s concentration camp about it’s liberation by the mongols.

[A women’s concentration camp? The mongols be all like,
    this.]

On 27 and 28 April all those prisoners who were well enough to walk were led out of the camp. … Moving in a northwesterly directions, they formed long columns, guarded by SS personel.

Again here, the Germans evacuating the “extermination” camp inmates in the face of the mongol advance, just like the case of Simon Wiesenthal. Why not let Irma Grese gas the prisoners or leave them as a logistical burden for the mongol army?

When Soviet forces liberated the subcamp at Neustadt-Glewe, “they raped all the women and girls: Jewish, Hungarian, German-it didn’t matter.” A group of Jewish women from this subcamp believed that their emaciated condition (they weighed on average only 30 kg/66 lbs) would be a deterrent. It was not.

Never thought of a Holocaust documentry as being erotica, but then again, I’m not a mongol.

The mongols would even rape the liberated POWs of their own kind.

… The Red Army’s men repeatedly raped liberated Russian female forced laborers. When the Red Army captured the Ravensbruck concentration camp… Even teenage girls hailing from the western Soviet Union were not immune.

…The Russian archives detail these mass assaults, as reported by the deputy chief of the political department from the 1st Ukrainian Front, by members of the Red Army upon Russian, Ukrainian, and Byelorussian women.

“… a shtraf company under the command of a senior lieutenant surrounded the village and shot the Red Army soldiers who where on guard there. They went to the women’s dormitory and started their organized mass rape of the women, who had just been liberated by the Red Army.”

The mongols really liked their rape. It’s not hard to believe they would have raped a lot in Germany.

I think Czechs were so vicious with Germans because they were ashamed of what came to be seen by the end of the war as cowardice. An interesting example is that the Germans tried to use the very highly developed French armaments industry to produce weapons for them. They managed to force the French to produce a few dozens of Tiger tanks, and maybe some others, too, but overall, French industry (workers, engineers, directors, everyone together) managed to sabotage it. Whereas the Czechs (albeit in a more precarious position) worked well for the Germans, producing thousands of tanks and lots of other weapons for the Wehrmacht. Czech industry worked well even in April 1945. Finally, in May 1945, they managed to rebel against the Germans, but even that was crushed by demoralized Wehrmacht and SS units fleeing the Red Army and intent on surrendering to the Americans instead of the Soviets.

It’s interesting that the Czech government was only opposed to mass murder if it caused it problems with international public opinion. They (both the government and the population) would have been happy to commit way more.

Many women (though certainly way fewer than 2 million) were raped in Hungary. What my grandparents told me certainly doesn’t contradict this narrative. Though, it doesn’t seem to have been some kind of official policy.

My grandma and her oldest sister were living in a house. (My grandpa was away – he still served in the military, and was sent to Germany at the end of the war.) There was a Soviet command post in the house next next door with a high-ranking (this could be anything from lieutenant to colonel, but probably closer to the latter) Soviet officer. A couple Soviet soldiers came to their house and asked the women to come with them “to peel potatoes.” My grandma’s sister said they are happy to peel any potatoes if they bring them to them, but they don’t want to go. The soldiers tried to grab them, when my grandma’s sister started to scream at the top of her voice. The door of the house next door opened, and the officer appeared. My grandma told me she never saw two people so quickly disappear without a trace.

Hungarian historians usually also say that it was not frontline troops who committed most of the atrocities. They didn’t even have the time to commit atrocities since they were fighting, and they didn’t even So, it was not the war heroes, rather the second-rate troops which arrived later.

Also, Hungarian troops unfortunately didn’t behave well in the East while on occupation duties either. In many places they were actually worse than the Germans, because they were worse equipped and not as well trained, so extreme violence was their first and only resort. They also committed rape more freely than the Germans, where the high command frowned upon rape both for disciplinary and for racial reasons, whereas with Hungarian troops it was only discipline which was important to the commanders, so rape was not opposed as harshly as with the Germans.

This month’s update of the CIA world factbook shows over a billion people don’t have access to electricity. Y’all racists should join the cause for total electrification of Africa. It’s both effective, humane, and better for mental health than feeling powerless. (I suspect being edgelords on the internet is for some a form of coping with that feeling – people in control don’t talk like that.) On the other side of the world, I wonder if an eco movement that consciously doesn’t consume electricity/smartphone entertainment, like some people now don’t consume plastic, will be the major source of babies born from intelligent parents in the future. Like the Amish, but without the crazy cult thing.

  194. reiner Tor says

Yes, some % of those were probably not unjustified (looters, conspirational Commies). I can’t think of how many, however. Quite a few innocents were killed.

In Nazi Germany many ordinary criminals ended up in concentration camps. Eventually probably the majority of them, because they needed regular prisons for temporary arrests or prisoners yet to be convicted. Contrary to later leftist propaganda, Nazi Germany was a pretty hard dictatorship (except by the standards of Soviet communism), and almost a million Germans spent some time in prison or concentration camps.

So it’s pretty likely that most ordinary Czech criminals also ended up in concentration camps. Though perhaps murdering a criminal is still murder. But not a very good justification for killing random German civilians.

The other issue what utu raises here is that some people could be heroes, yet their execution still justified under the legal standards of the age. (Which were pretty lax compared to today’s standards. Though there’s a lot of hypocrisy with civilians still getting killed, but then low ranking soldiers getting punished instead of the commanders, or simply the war getting lost or at least public order breaking down, because the severe punishment of the population is actually necessary to restore and keep the order.)

Their deaths were certainly bad for Czechia, but I’m not sure they are good justification for the indiscriminate massacres of German civilians. Their deaths are not even sufficient justification for the executions of the responsible German commanders. They were acting legally. But if some Germans resisted the orders of the Czechoslovak government, then of course similar violence (including mass execution of hostages) could have been used. But I doubt this accounted for most of the Germans killed. The Germans were demoralized, and they didn’t have many young men, so they couldn’t resist the Czechs.

You have to remember that the Germans killed the Czechs over a long period of time (six years), while the Czechs did it in just one or two years.

As a general point, I don’t think we can blame much older populations leading much harder lives than ourselves, smugly berating them for their inhumanity. But Czech behavior 1938-48 is certainly not something to be proud of: first they put up zero resistance, then when the danger was over, they started an orgy of violence, taking revenge on the Germans for their own shame of seeming to be cowards.

  195. reiner Tor says

No, unfortunately I don’t have any idea. There was a law that people who bought certain types of government securities were given a residence permit. (Maybe worth EUR 250,000? I’d need to look it up, but I don’t think I’m off by an order of magnitude.) This was discontinued recently, maybe in 2018, and it’s possible that it started to grow exponentially right before that.

the Germans evacuating the “extermination” camp inmates in the face of the mongol advance, just like the case of Simon Wiesenthal. Why not let Irma Grese gas the prisoners or leave them as a logistical burden for the mongol army?

    1) it was not an extermination camp

    2) the guards had their own reasons. Had they just left the camp without the prisoners, they could have been accused of desertion (at least 10,000 German men were executed by Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS martial courts during the last few weeks of the war for desertion or cowardice), or, not much better, simply sent to the front to fight the Red Army. By guarding the prisoners, they could claim to be doing something related to the war (and even something necessary, protecting the civilians from the prisoners), while still not actually fighting on the front.

  198. Czech politicians (and ordinary people as well) saw the end of WWII as an unique chance to resolve the country’s ethnic problem once forever. Hence the wild violence in the beginning, with official eyes firmly closed, and then the speedy deportations.

Since then Czech lands saw no ethnic tensions or violence, and our politics doesn’t revolve around national groups.

  199. reiner Tor says

I agree that it was a good thing for Czechia.

My point was simply that it’s not morally justified from a disinterested point of view. The morally correct approach would have been separation of the parts populated by Germans. Or not wanting to rule such a very large German population in the first place. Hitler blew this, of course.

So it’s of no use to elaborate on the vast number of historical inaccuracies in the portrayal of the epoch. The main problem is that the life of the Romanov family in the series is made to look like one of an upper-middle-class American family, and political life of the Russian Empire made to look like it’s a traveling circus, with people jumping, hollering, screaming and fighting all over the place. All the royal ceremonies and proceedings the Russian tsars were subject to in everyday life are dropped altogether, and the living conditions shown are quite modest, while Nicholas and his family lived in luxury.

    Question for reiner Tor:

Are Hungarian runes really as widespread as this article claims?

I first noticed these runes myself when I saw a few strange symbols tattooed on a policeman’s calf in Budapest. These, I discovered, were rovás, the curious, lenticular script of Old Hungarian. Few can read the characters, but they are increasingly the alphabetic calling card of the far right. Once I started looking for them, rovás were everywhere. They were used for street signs and public announcements in towns and villages governed by extreme wings of Fidesz. They were on T-shirts, bumper stickers, and stray bits of graffiti. They were above a museum toilet, on a book jacket, and on the packaging for a runic alphabet soup. I even saw a men’s magazine, a blond model kneeling provocatively on the cover, with its title and headlines rendered exclusively in runes.

    […]

They’re so pervasive, in fact, that even the political opposition has begun an effort to reclaim them for its own purposes. One day, wandering across Budapest, I saw a graffiti tag spray-painted in runic letters at the base of a bridge spanning the Danube. People were taking pictures of it, but no one could tell me what it said. Weeks later, after transliterating it into Latin letters and checking my dictionary, I got the secret message: “Orbán is a motherfucker.”

  204. Ceding some German populated areas to Germany was one of desperate proposals during the 1938 crisis. However, at that time Germany sensed complete victory and the proposal was refused. During the war the government in exile still toyed with this idea, but the mood at home was “kill them all”.

Czech political exile in WWI dreamed about much larger Czechoslovakia, which would include parts of Germany and Austria. Perhaps it was bargaining technique, but it feels as hubris. I am not aware of realistic plans what they would do with such huge number of German speakers.

That’s pretty much human nature, Hungarian nationalism wasn’t any better before 1918 (though we had the good sense not to want to further expand; I guess Czechs, too, after 1920), so I don’t blame Czechs for that. Same is true of the expulsions and mass murder in 1945-47.

I only resent it when they try to present it as some kind of angelic Czechoslovaks vs. barbarous Germans and Hungarians.

John Helmer: MH17 Evidence Tampering Revealed by Malaysia – FBI Attempt To Seize Black Boxes; Dutch Cover-Up of Forged Telephone Tapes; Ukrainian Air Force Hid Radar Records; Crash Site Witness Testimony Misreported

A new documentary from Max van der Werff, the leading independent investigator of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 disaster, has revealed breakthrough evidence of tampering and forging of prosecution materials; suppression of Ukrainian Air Force radar tapes; and lying by the Dutch, Ukrainian, US and Australian governments. An attempt by agents of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to take possession of the black boxes of the downed aircraft is also revealed by a Malaysian National Security Council official for the first time.

    […]

The film reveals the Malaysian Government’s evidence for judging the JIT’s witness testimony, photographs, video clips, and telephone tapes to have been manipulated by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), and to be inadmissible in a criminal prosecution in a Malaysian or other national or international court.

For the first time also, the Malaysian Government reveals how it got in the way of attempts the US was organizing during the first week after the crash to launch a NATO military attack on eastern Ukraine. The cover story for that was to rescue the plane, passenger bodies, and evidence of what had caused the crash. In fact, the operation was aimed at defeating the separatist movements in the Donbass, and to move against Russian-held Crimea.

The new film reveals that a secret Malaysian military operation took custody of the MH17 black boxes on July 22, preventing the US and Ukraine from seizing them. The Malaysian operation, revealed in the film by the Malaysian Army colonel who led it, eliminated the evidence for the camouflage story, reinforcing the German Government’s opposition to the armed attack, and forcing the Dutch to call off the invasion on July 27.

Five years on, we at last find out the truth: it was only Malaysia’s intrepidness (combined with Obama’s cowardice) that prevented WW3.

    1) central banking is legalized counterfeiting
    2) usury is inherently parasitic
    3) banking mafia -> great wealth
    4) banking mafia -> hated

banking mafia is an economic niche – if Jews aren’t around then some other group will colonize that niche (often another ethnic minority for some reason) but otherwise Jews have a habit of out-competing other groups for that niche.

being the banking mafia guarantees anti-semitism sooner or later cos the niche is parasitic but at the same time guarantees great wealth so the choice becomes:

    1) guaranteed anti-semitism + insulation by wealth from anti-semitism (most of the time)

    vs

    2) probability of less anti-semitism (but probably not none) + less insulation by wealth

Jews chose (1) for logical risk-minimizing reasons hence their history.

How could someone be a Russophile and also enthusiastic toward Nazi iconography and astro-turf neo-nazi blogs? Something afoot.

In my estimation, RI is likely some sort of (lazy) op by bad actors. They seem intent on painting contemporary Russia and the Orthodox Church as some how linked or compatible with National Socialism. Possible Bausman is just an independently wealthy weirdo who is drawn to “forbidden” topics, and genuinly thinks Putin is Putler, but paranoid caution never hurt anyone.

If a Westerner claims to be “pro Russian” and isn’t also pro-Soveit, as in sympathetic with the Soviets in 2nd WW and, let’s say at least level headed about the Cold War, then something is amiss.
