  1. This is the current Open Thread, where anything goes – within reason.

If you are new to my work, start here.

  2. Greg Johnson has been arrested in Norway, and is to be deported as a dangerous alien who threatens Norway’s fundamental national interest (this is the law they used).

Invited to address a lawful right-wing political conference, the Scandza Forum; a police raid occurred just before Dr. Johnson was going to deliver his keynote speech at midday Nov. 2; police hauled him away; held in Norwegian jail for 48 hours; to be deported to Hungary in about 9 hours as of this writing.

He is a US citizen. Hungary might be compelled to deny him entry. His associate John Morgan is resident in Hungary.

(While it is the right of any country to deny entry or deport any foreigner for any reason at any time, this case is interesting politically: e.g., as well know, if Russia deported a left-wing US speaker, it would be CNN-MSNBC fodder for days re how bad Russia is.)

This also means the Unz Review has a political prisoner (Trevor Lynch being Dr. Johnson’s movie-review pen name).

  3. LoutishAngloQuebecker says

Yes. Sooner or later they will knock on your door, too. And my door.

As we saw with the Groypers at Charlie Kirk – the simple, basic statements of the Dissident Right are simply overpowering to tptb. They literally do not have any good, or even passable answers.

Therefore, the next best solution is to simply start disappearing people. I would suggest getting right with God and preparing for the worst. The Gulag Archipelago comes to mind.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCFSfqeE3j0

Here is the Groyper video btw. Charlie Kirk and his gay black pet explain why they put Israel first, and why gay rights has always been a conservative principle.

  4. For Russian cities, the Ministry of Construction has created an index rating cities by “quality of urban environment.” – which they synthetized by a lot of different factors (proportion of people in emergency housing, transport accidents, number and quality of green spaces and more).

If you look only at cities which have population over 1 million people, their index is:

    1. Moscow = 276
    2. Saint-Petersburg = 238
    3. Ekaterinburg = 191
    4. Nizhny Novgorod = 190
    5. Kazan = 190
    6. Krasnoyarsk = 189
    7. Ufa = 179
    8. Rostov-on-Don = 178
    9. Samara = 163
    10. Novosibirsk = 161
    11. Chelyabinsk = 160
    12. Voronezh = 154
    13. Perm = 153
    14. Volgograd = 116
    15. Omsk = 104

    https://индекс-городов.рф/#

In a non-precise way, this index seems to matching stereotypical expectations of desirability levels of the largest cities (just as some of the criteria like proportion of population in emergency housing is just measuring economic distress), just surprising how Volgograd and Omsk are so back from the medium group.

  5. I cut Spencer a lot of slack because he seemed to be intelligent and insightful.

But later he made noise about bring back the great imperial game… as if the world is a STAR WARS universe.

Near the end of this video, we hear Spencer getting real mad. Given what happened at Charlottesville, I can understand the rage, invective, and even racial epithets.

But his sentiments are pure poison. It is white supremacism that is hardly different from KKK and Neo-Nazi garbage. His goal is not white liberation from Globo-Homo-Shlomo supremacism but to be uber-lord stomping his foot over others. What petulant sense of entitlement. He should have been spanked more as a kid. He acts like a brat who wants to hog all the toys. He’s like Dark Helmut.

Spencer fooled us all. He really is a piece of shi*.

  6. As a commenter suggested to you in a previous Sailer post, there’s a possibility that Johnson was turned over to Norwegian authorities by members of the European far-right. There has been some animosity brewing among some in the European right over Johnson’s homosexual activity in Europe, particularly with younger men.

    https://mattforney.com/matt-forney-live-johnson/

On this episode of Matt Forney Live, I discussed a recent phone recording in which Greg Johnson admits to being homosexual, grooming young men for gay sex, and associating with other alt-righters/white nationalists who abuse young men, and more.

    https://mattforney.com/requiem-milo-yiannopoulos/

When the gay rights movement began in earnest several decades ago, one of their top demands was lowering the age of consent, and a big part of why homonationalists like Grindr Greg Johnson are so enamored with Europe is because ages of consent are much lower here, as low as thirteen in some countries.

  7. Spencer fooled us all

Oh, you speak for us do you?

  8. Greg Johnson are so enamored with Europe is because ages of consent are much lower here, as low as thirteen in some countries.

Daniel Friberg is a Swedish nationalist. Note that the age of consent in Hungary and many other European countries is 14.

    https://twitter.com/Daniel_Friberg/status/1056313100666892290

  9. Johnson was originally exposed by a young gay Swedish male honeypot who was able to seduce Johnson and others and infiltrate the alt-right:

    https://www.rooshvforum.com/thread-64282-page-63.html

In Alt-Right Meltdown News, a Swedish antifa managed to infiltrate the alt-right—including several invite-only events with “heavy” vetting, including the London Forum—and secretly record interviews with Richard Spencer, Greg Johnson, Jason Reza Jorjani, and other major figures in the movement. He managed to dox Johnson and reveal what he looked like through a hidden video recording, and will possibly be doxing others as well.

How did this completely unknown guy managed to get such high-level access so quickly? Turns out that he’s a homosexual and he had gay sex with Grindr Greg Johnson, Stead Steadman, and possibly other homos in the alt-right in order to get into their secret events and clubhouses.

  10. Spencer has always struck me as controlled opposition. He has never had any real base. It’s interesting to note that he always somehow survived the purges. He gets to not only keep his Twitter account but even gets verified. He gets invited to the MSM to pontificate from time to time. He is the Hillary Clinton of the Alt Right. Popularised and favoured by ZOG, but has little support on the ground.

His comments against Nick Fuentes is also reeking of bitterness. What is clear is that the Alt Right, or whatever you want to call it, is not dependent upon a small set of people. It isn’t Spencer’s pet project and it never was. He was just there to benefit from a growing trend which happened with or without him. And he confused this as a general trust in him, but he was never relevant to the broader movement. This is fundamentally good. There is a growing need for this kind of politics and if one set of people cannot deliver, then they will be overrun by others. As should be.

I wouldn’t even call Fuentes Alt Right. He is like the Alt Lite, but with the exception that he and his group are much less friendly to globohomo and Israel, and this scares TPTB. If people like him gained the upper hand, we’d see symbiosis, not conflict, with the more radical elements of the Alt Right like TRS.

Anglin, as another puppet, will of course try to sabotage everything as he usually does by promoting infighting and drama. But he is also rapidly losing relevance.

  11. Roosh is also a non-white sex tourist who is scared of the Alt Right ever gaining power, because it means his access to white people – and white women – is in danger. He prefers a nonsectarian movement which is only strong on issues like LGBT or feminism, but where non-whites like him can still enjoy the fruits of white civilisation. That’s why he is shilling for Christianity these days, it fulfills this niche.

Furthermore, Jorjani was never a ‘major figure’, even before he left. Greg’s homosexuality was well-known already back then and has been for ages. I’ve already described Spencer’s lack of base.

I remember when this “scandal” was heavily promoted by ZOG media like NYT as a big exposé. Yet it already told us everything we had already known about everyone involved. The leaked “tapes” just showed them saying the same things they’ve been saying on podcasts for years. It was nothing new to any of us. The only thing it did was to show liberals, SJWs and netflix cat ladies & wine aunts who their next approved enemy was. That’s why the whole stunt fell flat.

  12. Bryan Caplan’s open borders comic is out and on libgen, my review here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/TheMotte/comments/do4gpx/culture_war_roundup_for_the_week_of_october_28/f69wgq9/

The book would have been much better had it been written as a case for the Palestinian right of return and tearing down Israel’s border wall with Egypt. The stakes would be a little clearer.

As for Spencer, he’s perfectly fine, one of the smarter commentators in this area. Great power politics is inevitable.

Also, the Problem Solvers’ Caucus took down Hamas’s Twitter account. I’m pissed because I rely on Twitter for updates.

  13. The post I linked to is from Roosh’s forum, but was not made by Roosh himself.

Johnson’s homosexuality was long rumored and hinted at, but not really known about except among some close intimates. Most followers of the alt-right did not really know about it.

I agree that the “scandal” was not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it did contribute to deflating the energy and momentum of alt-right 1.0, as we might call it, in the wake of Trump’s victory.

There are rumors that there are more younger European men that Johnson has been with and explicit material featuring Johnson that could come out, and that the European right wanted to nip this in the bud and deal with Johnson before these men or content could come out and embarrass or harm the European right, and thus this is why they betrayed him to the authorities.

Media tried to exploit him, casting him as a baddie. He was also the go-to-guy because he could be charming and congenial when he wants to be. In turn, he was hungry for publicity.
The media panicked when Spencer seemed to have genuine star power. He seemed intelligent and came across as articulate and good-looking. It was as if Spencer was playing the media than other way around, and many were genuinely impressed. So, whatever the media meant to do, it initially backfired because Spencer came across as capable and even charismatic. Great fortune landed on Spencer’s lap. Alt Right was suddenly a thing, the talk of the town. It even had a cool edgy brand. And Spencer could have ran with this.

But the fool made a series of dumb decisions. He encouraged his fanboys to give Hitler salute at a conference in honor of Donald Trump’s victory. The whole freaking world was watching, and his minions ruined the event(that had gone very well) with Sieg Heil theatrics. And then, the fool had long conversations with clown Andrew Anglin. And he linked up with fatso Neo-Nazi Matt Heimbach. He got increasingly drunk and erratic, losing people who joined his movement out of genuine commitment. He could not keep quality people. Then, there was Unite the Right.
I didn’t know much about the people who were slated to speak at Unite the Right, but looking back, they were a bunch of morons. Heimbach is a fat fuc* who belongs on Jerry Springer. Chris Cantwell is nuts. Others were hardly better. It’s true that the mayor and police were mainly to blame for the violence, but Spencer drove Alt Right into the ground by associating it with nutjobs and morons.
It’s like he was given the coolest train set for Christmas and wrecked it because he has no self-control and patience.

Still, it’s not true that he was spared the purge. He was banned from EVERYTHING except Twitter. His site was shut down. He couldn’t raise money. He couldn’t book venues. He’d been regularly invited by MSM to be the voice of the Alt Right in 2016, but he was hardly asked since Charlottesville.

The thing is, he could have played it smart and shaped Alt Right into something interesting, even outstanding, but his petulance, vanity, and egotism got the better of him. He’s also a philosophical nihilist, which means he has no core morality other than power-worship. If he were a 17 yr old who read Nietzsche and Ayn Rand and got over-excited, it’d be forgivable. But for a 40 yr old to yammer about how he’s master of the universe, it is downright pathetic and embarrassing.

His comments against Nick Fuentes is also reeking of bitterness. What is clear is that the Alt Right, or whatever you want to call it, is not dependent upon a small set of people. It isn’t Spencer’s pet project and it never was.

Fuentes’ edge over Spencer is consistency and commitment. He started a show and kept at it day in and day out, gradually building up an audience. In contrast, Spencer doesn’t know the meaning of persistence and tenacity. He cooks up grandiose plans and makes big declarations, but he cannot finish anything he starts. He’s all sprint and no marathon. He started a site called Alt-Right but gave up. Then he got Radix Journal, and it faded. He said he’s gonna do regular podcasts or videos, but it was all off-and-on.
Fuentes has his own problems. He’s young & brash and tends to fly off the handle. He’s smart and well-read for a young man, but his temperament precludes depth. He has interest in politics and history but lacks genuine curiosity. He has the guts to be contrarian against the official narrative but is too quick to jump to simple-minded conclusions of his own. Still, he’s young and a work in progress. Anyway, his positive quality is he keeps at whatever he’s doing, which is so different from Spencer who comes with several big plans and fails to bring any to fruition.

He’s neither Alt Right nor Alt Lite. He’s a ‘zoomer’ revamping of Paleo-Con fundamentals. He’s closest to Pat Buchanan, a Catholicist conservative with racial consciousness.

Anglin, as another puppet, will of course try to sabotage everything as he usually does by promoting infighting and drama. But he is also rapidly losing relevance.

I don’t know why anyone would take Anglin seriously. Daily Stormer is only good for laughs. It’s dumb and retarded, but its outrage humor can be funny like Adam Sandler movies or Three Stooges shorts. The thing is to just let Anglin do his thing. Just don’t invite him to serious debates. In the latest piece, DS praises Fuentes, but then I take it Fuentes has too much sense to lend it any credence. Let Anglin play jester. Don’t let him into the hall.

    https://dailystormer.name/dear-everyone-you-get-what-you-fucking-deserve/

  15. It’s interesting to me that within the “Alt-Right”, there can be so many reasons for people not to be united. Here’s a list off the top of my head, partly based on the comments made here thus far:

    1) Opposed to homosexuality vs. homosexuality okay.
    2) Opposed to women in the movement vs. women in the movement okay.
    3) Opposed to non-whites in the movement vs. non-whites in the movement okay.
    4) Opposed to Jews in the movement vs. Jews in the movement okay.
    5) Opposed to working within the system vs. working within the system okay.
    6) Opposed to a white ethnostate vs. a white ethnostate okay.
    7) Opposed to “larping” as neo-Nazis vs. waving swastika banners okay.
    8) Opposed to “uneducated low class” whites in the movement vs. “all whites welcome”.
    9) Concerned about optics and widespread public acceptance vs. not concerned.
    10) Politically right wing/conservative/capitalist/libertarian vs. national socialist vs. rejecting both the Left and Right as irrelevant.
    11) Placing importance on Christianity vs. opposed to Christianity.
    12) Civic nationalist vs. racial nationalist.

With so many points of potential disagreement, I don’t see any basis for unity in the “alt Right”. At best, it promotes new ideas — and many good ideas — into the national debate. A good thing to be sure. But that is all that it is capable of right now.

What do I favor? A movement that will organize to prepare for the likely disintegration of the U.S. and other multi-racial nations into ethnostates. There is no point in taking undue risks to promote what is going to happen anyway. There is no point in trying to convince the general public — it will be convinced by the increasing racial hostilities that are going to take place.

Instead, we should be preparing for the inevitable — racial separation. We should prepare for a white ethnostate free of Jews that welcomes all white people regardless of religion, politics, sexual orientation, etc. Once we have that ethnostate, we can work on those issues. Fighting over them now is both a waste of time and counter-productive.

  16. Boswald Bollocksworth says

I don’t understand why people are surprised gay, pot bellied, Hitler-lover Greg Johnson got arrested. This is not the first time a right wing racialist American has been arrested in Europe. People really have the wrong idea about the western countries. Would you fly to the Soviet Union, start giving speeches about restoring the Tsar, and expect anything but deportation? The west is an unfree regime, that, like the USSR or Red China, can not tolerate criticism. If you screw with them, they will destroy you. Look what they did to Assange. You cannot name-fag and hope to get away with it, and for the love of God, Do Not Go To Events. Eventually they will round people up for forced gender reassignment and people who go to racialist events will be on the top of the list!

  17. Sher Singh says
  18. Given the general state of the alt right in the US anything to keep them and their influence away from Europe is a good thing.

  19. He is a plant. He’s not bona fide.

  20. as well know, if Russia deported a left-wing US speaker

Russia should also deport them in the name of the “fundamental national interest”, then the cuckservatives pundits can try to explain to their base how the fundamental ideology of America is homosexuality, persecuting whites and Christians and mass immigration. No matter how much they they try spin it, it will be obvious that they just hard leftists and no real conservative can ever believe these frauds are supposed to be conservative.

  21. We should prepare for a white ethnostate free of Jews

I am not against this, but even if the jews are not in that state they will obviously work to destroy it. The international jew is an international problem, simply isolating oneself in ones own state is not good enough.

  22. @Neutral: I agree that not having Jews in the white ethnostate is “not enough”, but I think that you’ll agree that it’s a “good start”.

  23. @ Boswald Bollocksworth: Why would the Russians object to the Tsar being restored to the throne? I think they would be fine with that.

The Jews took advantage of Russia at the end of WW I when conditions in Russia were chaotic, and they took over the country. They murdered millions of Russian Christians in the name of atheistic Communism. They murdered the Tsar and his family.

Now the Russian Orthodox Christian Church has been revived in Russia. Russia is no longer communist.

Jewish oligarchs still have a lot of power in Russia — just like they do here in the U.S. — but the Russian people were never — ever — in favor of the Jews running their country!

  24. reiner Tor says

He lost a lot (his mom received threats etc.), even his gym membership was cancelled, so I don’t think it’s possible that he started out as some kind of subversive agent.

It’s not impossible that later on he was pressured into becoming some kind of subversive agent, but I think incompetence and lack of judgment (also maybe bad luck in some cases) are enough to explain his behavior.

  25. reiner Tor says

Are you so dumb that you don’t know how to use the reply button? You also didn’t understand the example given by the other commenter.

  26. @reiner Tor: Since I did reply, I think you’re the dumb one for saying that I don’t know how to use the reply button.

As for my “not understanding,” feel free to elaborate.

Don’t make me read your mind, assuming you have one — which is doubtful.

  27. “Trevor Lynch being Dr. Johnson’s movie-review pen name” – Are you sure?

  28. The recent study that showed that men are funnier than women is interesting. Not that anyone should be surprised – it’s long been remarked upon.

Direct sexual selection for humor seems like the obvious answer, but I wonder whether it is too obvious and there might be some other explanation. Like, humor being a survival advantage in war or other hard times. Or it being a secondary effect of a subtype of intelligence, for which men have been selected, over women.

  29. Just skimmed it.

Restorative justice is a process with Indigenous roots that focuses on addressing harm caused by crime, while holding the offender responsible.

Above is laughably false, IIRC. “Restorative justice” is about preserving the status quo and preventing violent feuds. It is about giving the family of a murder victim so many goats. Oh, I am sure it has its advantages, in tribal and clan-based societies, but no man would call it justice.

Also, temperance for women might not be a bad idea.

  30. Daniel Chieh says

If I was going to speculate, it would be a lack of selection for humor in women. Certainly a lot of humor is so incisive and “hurtful” to someone, so could not exactly correlate with the feminine persona – although one would not think that should be an issue with self-deprecating humor but I haven’t seen women particularly glib with the latter either.

  31. Conspiracy theory #1776 or 1619, depending on who’s doing the counting.

The American Deep State engineered the start of impeachment inquiry in order to keep Warren and other Senators in Washington and unable to campaign in January, thereby handing the nomination to favorite son, Joe Biden.

If you can’t trust James Bond anymore, who can you trust?

  32. Thorfinnsson says

You should be broken on the wheel for your incompetence.

  33. Why would the Russians object to the Tsar being restored to the throne?

He said the “Soviets” not today’s Russians. Realism is important for everyone but especially so for powerless dissidents.

  34. Thorfinnsson says

    On Spencer:

I don’t want to be too harsh, since he has actually been in the arena and done more than shitpost.

That said, I find myself largely in agreement with Priss Factor. Some additional points:

-Rambling about Nietzsche, the “Faustian Spirit”, or other such rubbish is a waste of time at best and counterproductive at worst. In the United States more than one-fifth of the entire electorate still consists of Evangelical Christians. This isn’t the case in other Western countries, but it’s still not useful as coming off obsessed with German philosophy, German idealism, National Socialism, or whatever/

-As much as I am loathe to admit it, very well dressed men should probably be viewed with greater scrutiny. Particularly if they’re not also in very good shape (ala BAP). It suggests narcissism, vanity, and dilettantism.

-The most urgent issue to resolve is the deplatforming issue. I like what Teddy Spaghetti (Vox Gay) and others are doing with alternative platform building, but I’m skeptical of alternative platforms remaining viable. How long before all financial and internet services (including things like wire transfers and connecting DNS addresses to the backbone) are denied to us? Probably common cause will need to be made with traditional conservatives (which will require continued bullying of course) and, strange as it seems, big business itself. This recent essay highlighted the issue: https://americanmind.org/essays/the-flight-93-election-crashed/

  35. That’s a good list. I could add a few more most notably the division between Americans and Europeans. Too many American Alt-Righters appear to have been successfully gaslighted by those who dominate their media and schools into believing the narrative that defending Western civilisation equals Nazism or at the very least German imperialism. Pretty hard for someone in, say, Poland, to believe that.

  36. Daniel Chieh says

Why would the Russians object to the Tsar being restored to the throne? I think they would be fine with that.

    Putin has no sons.

  37. How long before all financial and internet services (including things like wire transfers and connecting DNS addresses to the backbone) are denied to us?

Last week some comedian in the US had some of his banking services taken from him. Maybe there are other options in the US but in some countries a few banks completely dominate. I know of a few grocery stores in various European cities in which you need to have a debit/credit card to make purchases. The move towards more automation could be a big problem.

Then there are government services. Having a licence to drive is a privilege not a right. Some people may be too dangerous to have access to a possible weapon like a car. There are all kinds of things that can be done short of what we think of as direct repression to minimise dissent.

  38. Daniel Chieh says

A movement about tribalism, not surprisingly, creates tribes within itself.

But it goes a little further than that, I would argue: the general lack of real success leads to virtue signaling for “purity”(defined differently based on faction). I’m reminded of a story on an apocalyptic UFO cult that predicted the date and time of the visitation of aliens; when the time passed and nothing happened, rather than falling apart, the remaining members of the cult increased in fidelity and fanaticism. Such efforts would doubtlessly lead to schism as well and I would say that the proximate psychological cause is that without positive emotional correlation for success, members instead turn to internal signaling for emotional positivity.

I’m divided on the civil war scenario; I think de jure the US will remain intact, but de facto if dysfunction continues, it will become a “Brazil Del Norte” where vast sections of the country are not within government control, and thus disconnected states for their own practical purposes.

  39. Dacian Julien Soros says

Look at what happened to Shkreli for proving that the US pharma revenue system is broken. That is, of course pennies, compared to the money circulated by organized religion, or the state-run schools, or the “free” press which somehow, miraculously, overlaps with the most protected American industry, entertainment, or the agricultural and building oligarchs (largest users of illegal immigrant workforce, and never traded on stock exchanges), or the military-industrial complex.

West’s free speech is as free as the proportion of cases when Americans are actually judged by a jury. To draw a parallel, Ceausescu’s regime plastered the country with his passion for peace. “Long live the struggle for peace”. When he died, 4% of the population, some one million Romanians were in the Army. Powerful sociopaths always say one thing, but do the opposite.

  40. It is true that Russia benefits from strong, centralized and stable leadership (let’s say for structural reasons). That does not imply that monarchy could be successful today.

If monarchy is installed into Russia in the 21st century, there will be a rebellion within about 2 weeks, and the palace with be invaded by protesters, and the king hanged with his Hermès scarf.

King’s family will post photos of themselves inside the palace, looking beautiful and glamorous, with wife and daughters dressed in Chanel, while a King is trying to pass legislation to raise the pension age.

Half of people on social media will respond with photos of their grandmother freezing in the Khrushchev in Vorkuta, and the other half will annotate every photo with price labels denominated in US dollars, and compare it to the size of the state pension (e.g. King’s socks – purchased in Harrods’ 2nd floor, $50).

In the past (and still today perhaps in Africa), an idea of all power and wealth centralized in a royal family, with the ruler selected by nepotism, induced a sense they most be favored by god (or the gods), and therefore they have a right to rule us. The more expensive golden jewelry they wear, or the larger their house, and the longer the nepotism they have done – then the more they most have some “divine right” to be our rulers.

Since those times, our mind has experienced a kind of “Copernican revolution” in this area, and we laugh at Africans, who follow the orders of a fellow in their tribe who has the biggest gold chain, the most beautiful wives, and the largest house.

Our mentality in this area has been reversed a long time ago, and the main thing that nowadays angers public is when they see Putin/Medvedev have a large house, or they follow some nepotism (e.g. Putin’s daughters have good jobs).

Historically, for example, Navalny would be regarded more as a hagiographer than a critic, while continuing to the produce the same videos. “Our king Medvedev has a palace, vast family lands, 10 carriages/BMWs and he plans to give important jobs to his children.”

  41. I think they’d prefer Buttigieg, who seems like(ly) their guy already.

From World Socialist Web Site — Pete Buttigieg: Made-to-order political “outsider”:

Buttigieg was talent-spotted early and has moved in the top circles of the US national security establishment from the time he left college. From 2004 to 2005 (when he was 22 and 23), he worked as a conference director for the Cohen Group, a Washington-based consultancy that advises clients on international investment strategies.

The Cohen Group is headed by former Republican Senator William Cohen, who was secretary of defense under Democratic President Bill Clinton. Its principals, besides Cohen, include Marc Grossman, undersecretary of state for political affairs in the Bush administration and special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan under Obama; retired General Joseph Ralston, who concluded a 37-year Air Force career as chief of the European command and supreme allied commander, Europe; and Nicholas Burns, US ambassador to NATO and Grossman’s successor as undersecretary of state for political affairs under Bush.

This aspect of Buttigieg’s resumé closely resembles that of Barack Obama, who worked for CIA-connected Business International at age 21-22, making connections within the national security apparatus that stood him in good stead during his meteoric political rise.

From 2007 to 2010, the year before his first mayoral campaign, Buttigieg served as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, an international consulting firm with revenues of over $10 billion.

Media comments suggest that the Democratic Party sees one of the functions of Buttigieg’s campaign as preventing Bernie Sanders from winning the nomination.

  42. Ceausescu’s regime plastered the country with his passion for peace. “Long live the struggle for peace”. When he died, 4% of the population, some one million Romanians were in the Army.

But he never went to war did he? He didn’t invade Czechoslovakia. Was that fear of instability on his part, or a lack of will? I have always wondered about that question.

In the context of communism and the Eastern Bloc, I think you are expected to have a big army. Sure, it might be a waste of manpower, but the alternative seems politically impossible.

  43. I think they’d prefer Buttigieg, who seems like(ly) their guy already.

Perhaps, I started to name him as acceptable. The MSM is definitely working overtime in promoting him as a “moderate” a la Biden. Klobuchar is getting a little attention as an alternative to Biden as well in the “moderate” lane.

  44. Daniel Chieh says

Somewhat disagree. If someone is seen as competent and nepotism can be reasonably excluded, there’s not a vast taboo against their continuing clout: the US may very end up in some sort of weird cycle of Clinton/Trump – I could envision Hillary running 2020, and then perhaps Barron Trump at some point, and such is the brand name recognition that it would be seen as acceptable; no one particularly complained about the second Bush, for example.

In Singapore, too, Lee Hsein Loong is the Prime Minister and the son of the famous Lee Kuan Yew and its been more or less accepted.

  45. reiner Tor says

I’m pretty sure that it’s so.

  46. Korenchkin says

When he died, 4% of the population, some one million Romanians were in the Army. Powerful sociopaths always say one thing, but do the opposite.

And what great war was Romania involved in during Ceaucescu’s reign?
Having a big army is a good way to ensure that war never comes to you, combined with having a large and powerful ally nearby

  47. Korenchkin says

Our mentality in this area has been reversed a long time ago

    VERY naive
Nobody did jackshit when ex-Nomenklatura rats bought state assets for pennies and built themselves mansions that would make the Tsars blush, oh sure they complained a lot but there was no uprising
Indeed they still do nothing about the Oligarchy which is way more poisonous then any royal ever was

  48. Your interpretation of Spencer is fundamentally benign and generous, bordering naïve. Mine is more cynical. I do not buy any excuse that Spencer didn’t know exactly what he was doing with “heilgate”. As strange as it may seem today, there was a lot of mainstream figures like Cernovich and even Crowder(!) who tried to cash in on the alt right label. One view within the movement was one of careful patience, to slowly assimilate them or if failing that at the very least keep a cordial distance.

Instead, Spencer, making sure that all the cameras could see him, decided to give all the invitied MSM ZOG outlets (again, why were they there?) exactly what they wanted. Sorry, I don’t believe in coincidences. People who do shit like that aren’t fooling around. They know what they are doing: self-sabotaged demolition from the inside.

Spencer’s entire career arc shows exactly why nobody trusts him. The “mistakes” just keep piling up. The only people trying to cut him slack are either incredibly naïve (like you) or cynical operatives themselves trying to prop him up for their own ulterior motives.

Fuentes neither Alt Right nor Alt Lite. He’s a ‘zoomer’ revamping of Paleo-Con fundamentals. He’s closest to Pat Buchanan, a Catholicist conservative with racial consciousness.

Yes, this is a fair characterisation. However, as some of you may recall, Sam Francis and similar racialist paleocons were purged by the neoCohenists in the 80s and early 1990s. Fuentes brings this up a lot in his talks. The destruction of the GOP from the inside cannot be understood without understanding the JQ. With this shift, the GOP went from a mostly careful foreign policy party to one which was advocating wars everywhere. There used to be a dominant “arabist” faction within the GOP, which had people like Brent Snowcroft and the elder Bush as its members, who had a view which favoured moderation & general stability. With the rise of neoCohenists, that all went to hell and the perpetual war and turmoil in the middle east, which has created these large refugee streams, must be traced to this shift.

Fuentes resurgance is less about the Alt Right than the soul of the GOP. The Alt Right is agnostic on political parties. Their support of Trump was only contingent on the fact that he was an outsider from the party. It was pro-Trump, not pro-GOP. Fuentes is playing a longer and deeper game, which is more stationary. Not my cup of tea, but good on him for trying to end the neoCohenist strangehold which has been in play since the early 1990s.

  49. Abelard Lindsey says

I’m divided on the civil war scenario; I think de jure the US will remain intact, but de facto if dysfunction continues, it will become a “Brazil Del Norte” where vast sections of the country are not within government control, and thus disconnected states for their own practical purposes.

This is the most likely dystopian scenario for the future. What makes it plausible is that it combines the laziness and ineptitude of institutions with the increasing malaise of most people in general. Remember, all human institutions are bureaucracies and bureaucracy is inherently dysfunctional (which is why I don’t understand why you people believe in any of this garbage I see all over the social net).

  50. Daniel Chieh says

When is the Lindsey-Cthorr solution to the Spaceship Limited Earth problem?

  51. He can still be interesting as a critic of the American right: most his takes on conservatism, the alt-lite, MAGA-centric “American nationalism” are on point. His hobby horses (obsessive hatred of Christianity, incessantly we wuzzing Rome) are late-Victorian affections that are appealing to no one and not particularly relevant: he comes like the effeminate supervillain in a capeshit flick explaining his motives to the hero right before he’s defeated.

  52. Obviously, nepotism, elites, and inequality, has become more and more since the end of the USSR.

My point, is that the attitude to it, completely reversed from an attitude which had allowed monarchies to rule.

For example, with nepotism. For a monarchy, nepotism is a positive value, which common people are supposed to celebrate. The fact someone’s dad was king, and their granddad was king, and their great-grandad was king – legitimized their authority to be king. The more nepotism, the more “legitimate” the ruler.

Today, if we discover nepotism, this delegitimizes the ruler in our mind. When we see Putin is giving special jobs to his children, this delegitimizes him to the public.

Similarly, with jewelry and palaces. Historically, the king increases their perception of legitimacy to rule, by their luxurious lifestyle, palaces, vast lands and kitsch gold-plated carriages – all which dazzles the eyes of the public, and separates the royal family from a normal mortals (as their lifestyle is more like something for gods).

This “total cucking” from the population requires a certain kind of hypnosis, where people are too dazzled to perceive the royal family as just another family (and all the palaces and jewellery is one part of this strategy).

On the other hand, today, if we see a video about Medvedev’s palaces, vast land, and expensive cars, then our attitude is the opposite – it delegitimizes his right to rule. We perceive this as someone defrauding the public and their position, which of course the monarchies had done a hundred time worse before, but within a culture that had celebrated their doing that.

    • So, real monarchy (as opposed to English style monarchy, where the king has no power) is just inconceivable to return in Russia.

In fact, probably even in Iran, peoples’ attitude became too cynical, to ever allow return to monarchy now.

  53. Nepotism is still ubiquitous, but peoples’ attitude is reversed – aside from the fact there is democratic context where these people need to win elections anyway.

If Ivanka Trump wants to be President of the USA (and her father is a former ruler by that time) then public’s attitude to her will be less sympathetic, than if her father was not a former ruler, and she was just a Senator whose father was a doctor or school teacher.

The nepotism which has elevated her career is perceived as a negative factor, in public’s evaluation of her (even if she is otherwise perceived very positively for her good communication skills and calm personality).

It’s a complete reversal of our ancestral (“total cucking”) attitude, where she would be perceived as having the right to rule, precisely because her father was a ruler. Whereas if she had been daughter of a doctor or school teacher, we would have thought “she’s just a poor ordinary person like us, she is not a legitimate to be a leader”.

  54. Daniel Chieh says

A major tell of autism is the inability to consider multiple perspectives.

Your casual extrapolation of “public” from your own mindset and further confusion of how the divine mandate perspective worked are excellent evidence to that behalf. I’ll just mention that the actual attitude was more akin to identification, e.g. the wealth of a monarch would indicate by extrapolation a certain pride in his subjects as it was all such systems tried to portray themselves as paternalistic and one would to some extent, think of the monarch as a father, and therefore the continuation of his blood in successors as that of guardians of the same mandate for stability.

While the anomie of modern life tends not to lead toward such beliefs, paternalistic forms of government are neither incompatible with humanity nor modern existence I would argue.

  55. What about Weev? He seems to be in hiding.

  56. Roosh found Jesus. His womanizing days are over.

  57. You should be broken on the wheel for your incompetence.

Okay, little man, if you say so.

  58. With regard to Russian monarchy and monarchy in general, a case can be made that kings cared about the well-being of their subjects much more than our present “democratic” rulers.

During the American Civil War, Abraham Lincoln asked for help from the Russians in order to prevent British and French meddling in the war. The Czar issued a statement saying that he would grant Lincoln’s request because he supported freeing blacks from slavery, and that he would never support a system that held men in bondage.

When Jews were cheating Russian peasants, Czar Alexander III put restrictions on them, which is the reason why Jews hate Russia even today (they never stop holding a grudge).

In the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” the author(s) declare(s) that it was the existence of hereditary aristocracy, kings, and devout Chrstianity that protected the “goyim” from the scheming Jew, so that the first order of business for the Sanhedrin was to weaken or destroy Church and Throne. History shows the prominent role of Jews in plotting the assassinations of European monarchs, culminating in the murder of Nicholas II and his family.

As for the Church, Jews are constantly trying to judaize Christianity.

The propaganda given to us is that monarchs and aristocrats were nothing but despots. Kaiser Wilhem II is blamed for starting WW I even though he was the one who tried the hardest to prevent it.

We have also been given a distorted picture of the French Revolution. Louis XVI did care about his people. He was destroyed thanks to a conspiracy that depended on false rumors and the withholding of grain at strategic moments.

We even see in the Bible an example of a monarch defending his people. Joseph had taken over the grain supply in Egypt and withheld it from farmers unless they gave him their land. A new Pharaoh responded by putting the Jews into slavery. The Jewish God then killed all the Egyptian male first-born.

With the fall of the German, Austo-Hungarian and Russian monarchies, the world did not become a better and safer place, but a much worse and more dangerous place.

I would be perfectly fine with a constitutional monarchy and a hereditary aristocracy. The value of the latter is that the children of aristocrats are exposed to, and appreciative of, higher culture, and most take their responsibilities seriously.

Who rules us today? A bunch of bought and paid for shills and gangsters.

  59. tell of autism is the inability to consider multiple perspectives.

What is this strange habit of you and Reinor, where the two self-diagnosing autistic people on this forum, are accusing non-autistic people of being autistic.

I’m too charming and sensitive in real life – i.e. I can diagnose myself with various things, but autistic is not one of them. (For example,I avoided homework at school but instead use charm so the teacher would not care – it was good for my laziness perhaps).

“public” from your own mindset and further confusion of how the divine mandate perspective worked are excellent evidence to that behalf. I’ll just mention that the actual attitude was more akin to identification, e.g. the wealth of a monarch would indicate by extrapolation a certain pride in his subjects as it was all such systems tried to portray themselves as paternalistic and one would to some extent, think of the monarch as a father,

You need to re-write this text, it does not contain an argument and is very difficult to understand what you are trying to say.

You are saying that the commoners identified with the wealth of the monarch. This is a great trick from the elite’s perspective, but rather the definition of “total cucking”.

“I am extremely rich and powerful, and I give you permission to vicariously identify with my wealth and view me as your father.”

  60. The funny things is he has no “womanizing days”. We talked about him before in this forum.

It looks like he goes to Ukraine because prostitutes and accommodation are cheap for him (he sells ebooks in American dollars, hires prostitutes in Ukraine where they are cheaper).

However, he appears in Ukrainian television, and they were angry at him because he steals photos of random models, and posts them on his webpage to say they are girls he seduces (to promote selling his ebooks). At the same time, the brown people in the audience are saying he creates a bad reputation for other brown people in Ukraine.

  61. What is this strange habit of you and Reinor, where the two self-diagnosing autistic people on this forum, are accusing non-autistic people of being autistic.

As a part of internet etiquette, I think the general rule on anonymous message-boards (especially political ones) is too assume everyone is an autistic NEET virgin until proven otherwise.

  62. So, Charlie Kirk is just another neocon.

  63. Wow! That’s sad. So, he was a fraud?

  64. Putin could be a closet homosexual. That famous picture of him riding a horse shirtless always had a Brokeback Mountain vibe to it.

  65. Something new: Poland is now making English-language films
written, directed, and produced in Poland. The latest example
is a spy thriller, The Coldest Game, starring Bill Pullman. The cast
also includes Polish, American, and Russian actors and actresses.
The film is set in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and was
    shot mainly in Warsaw.

Because the film was made in Poland, I guess nobody will complain
about the #CastSoWhite. I think there is a tremendous demand for
movies aimed primarily at white audiences. One reason why Tarantino’s
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was so successful at the box office was
because the cast was almost entirely white. Netflix is filming a TV series
called Ultraviolet in Poland. It’s a crime thriller, and is getting rave reviews
from audiences worldwide, incl. in the United States. This seems to be
    a trend

  66. Interesting: Denis Lisov, a Russian father who is a Christian,
abducted his 3 young daughters from Sweden where they had been
placed with a Muslim foster family when his wife developed
schizophrenia. He escaped to Poland where he applied for asylum.
Sweden is using all the legal means to have his kids extradited but
Poland is protecting Lisov and his daughters so they are perfectly
safe. Common sense still reigns in Poland, thank God. The oldest
daughter who is 12 loves Poland so it’s not clear if they return to
    Russia or stay in Poland.

  67. Europa Nationalist says

British people are just the same, if you say mass immigration should be stopped to the UK many will call you racist, yet they are perfectly happy to accept Poland, etc, as white countries and often claim how much better Polish/Eastern European cities are than British cities, ignoring the fact that British cities have been destroyed by non-white mass immigration.

It must take a lot of cognitive dissonance to get to that level of hypocrisy, but this mentality is becoming the norm in Britain. I guess that in their minds because Polish people, etc, don’t speak English native and seem a bit “rustic” in comparison, that makes them exotic enough that they almost don’t count as “white”?

  68. Korenchkin says

So, real monarchy is just inconceivable to return in Russia.

I don’t agree, enough propaganda can change anyone’s mind
Which is why Russians need to guard against it, the last thing they need is some Romanov’s distant Hohenzollern cousin getting the reigns of the country

He’s just a Jew, and so does the usual Jew spiel.

Of course Jews are very opposed to nepotism, as long as the nepotism is non-Jewish. Less money for Jewish nepotism is a crime against humanity, oy vey!

The talk about a ‘public opinion’ is just a smokescreen and chutzpah.

  71. On the practical side they almost have to make movies about the past (that are accurate in terms of demographics) in places like Poland. They can’t take the current demographics of London and use them as extras in say a WW2 setting. It is also impossible to do this in London and ask for only white extras (which is probably part of the reason why one sees ever more blacks in historical dramas).

  72. enough propaganda can change anyone’s mind

    Really?

some Romanov’s distant Hohenzollern cousin getting the reigns of the country

By now AK has secured Romanov DNA which will be used in his transhumanism project. Mother Russia will rise again with a Romanov as Czar.

  73. Putin is doubling down in Africa:

    https://www.ft.com/content/a5648efa-1a4e-11e9-9e64-d150b3105d21

Russia: Vladimir Putin’s pivot to Africa

Moscow is building influence on the continent, to the chagrin of former colonial powers

Christian Malanga, an opposition politician in the Democratic Republic of Congo where Moscow has hailed Felix Tshisekedi as the winner of the recent presidential election despite evidence of voting fraud, says Russia was building on old Soviet ties. “It’s the cold war 2.0,” he says, adding that Russia complemented China in what he saw as a strategy to challenge western influence. “China is the money and Russia is the muscle.”

While Moscow is keen to build new relationships, it is no stranger to the region. During the cold war, the Soviet Union had strong ties with various African states, supporting independence movements aimed at dislodging western colonial powers. “Russian-African relations have a rich history, while, unlike the former global powers, Russia has not tainted itself with the crimes of slavery and colonialism,” the Russian foreign ministry says in a statement. “In the middle of the last century, our country actively contributed to the achievement of national independence and sovereignty of African countries . . . Many African leaders are well aware of this.”
    .

By the way, just a couple days ago, South Africa won the Rugby World Championship. The country erupted with joy. Looks like the team is almost equally divided between blacks and whites. The captain is black:

  74. Because the film was made in Poland, I guess nobody will complain about the #CastSoWhite.

If it is low budget, or a grounded historical drama, it might be below the radar. Otherwise people will still complain.

I think there is a tremendous demand for movies aimed primarily at white audiences.

I agree with this, and I’d add traditional morals.

Still, I am of two minds on Hollywood. One is that it should be mercilessly destroyed for promoting globalism. The other is that it is good prolefeed for invader groups to keep down their TFR, and to keep them from committing crimes. As well, I think its blatant anti-white messages bring people to our cause.

    So, he was a fraud?

If people are stupid enough to buy his ebooks (I have no idea what is the content of these “books”), then I am not sure it is fraud.

And money from selling these ebooks, is presumably what pays for him to buy prostitutes in Ukraine, where prices for prostitutes will be really low.

I cannot project that the content of the books could be useful advice (unless he has plagiarized), even we considered it was good to tell people to manipulate women, considering its author is the most not charming and badly presented person.

However, it could be a kind of entertainment? fantasy literature for other brown nerds which have a similar life to himself, and he will have special insight into these people (his audience) by sharing their problems and virtues.

  77. Dacian Julien Soros says

My feeling is that Ivanka pitted against any major Democratic candidate would score at least a 30% on an US-wide poll. Let’s say she scores only 3%.

Hundreds of thousands of social workers and psychologists working across the States, many for salaries below median, would definitely score below 3%, even with decades of campaigning. Look at Tulsi, look at Stein, look at Nader. Is Ivanka somehow more endowed with “communication skills” and calmness, than all these people, or is she owing everything to the wealth of her family?

Is criticism of Ivanka so harmful to her potential political aspirations? In fact, can you give me an example of criticism? She is obviously dumber than the chair I am sitting, and yet nobody, not even Democrat-supporting press, not even radical leftists, complain that she has a job in central administration. Have you ever hear Amy Goodman or Justin Raimondo mocking that blonde imbecile? Every time I hear her being “sympathetic” to anybody else on the planet. I puke a little, but I feel like I am the only one.

On a scale between a 10 for Elena Ceausescu’s cult and a zero the nihilism that followed her during the nineties, the worship of Ivanka you inadvertently expose here shows America at a solid 10. When even people from the antipodes think that the bimbo actually thinks for herself, it’s cringey.

  78. I understood what you were trying to say in your comment after reading a second time. It was very badly written.

After the first sentence, there was a good point hidden there – which is that one of the ways of hypnotizing the public that monarchs used was to public identification with their wealth and power, and also to project an image as father of people.

This former relied on eliciting a psychological reaction which is a bit like Stockholm syndrome, where hostages identify with their captor.

Ultimate authority of the monarch originally rests on violence, not less than any hostage taker, and show of wealth and power is also hint at the ability of a Chieftain to enforce violence. If you have the power for hiring 100 gardeners to cut your hedge every day, then you must have a lot of power to hurt those who disobey (even if this implication is more subtle than putting a large castle in the city – although Arab leaders, which are only a couple of generations from tribal chiefs, quite understand this conjunction when they hang up gold plate kalashnikovs)

  79. Europa Nationalist says

I have my doubts the outcome of that match wasn’t rigged. England played terribly, a shadow of their previous performance during the World Cup. A lot of the England players seemed quite angry at the end of the match and many refused to wear their Runners Up medals, a move they were heavily criticised for in the media but their refusal to wear the medals makes me wonder if they were ordered to let South Africa win.

Symbolically it is almost too good to be true for South Africa, a 50/50 white and black team with its first black Captain defeating the old colonial ruler ENGLAND, which represents the ultimate in WHITENESS to them. The victory seems like a political/propaganda agenda to me.

  80. If it is low budget, or a grounded historical drama, it might be below the radar. Otherwise people will still complain

I suppose they have to get their foot in the door first. Once the local industry gets established with jobs, money, and growth dependent on continued outside investment from Netflix, etc, then the poz can be introduced.

  81. Europa Nationalist says

If Netflix, etc, started making films in Eastern Europe so they could more easily cast white actors the left would quickly accuse them of cynically manipulating that country for their own nasty right wing, racist propaganda.

That said I don’t think there’s much of a market for films and series with actors who speak English as a second language, especially in the US where people tend to be particularly “funny” about accents.

  82. Putin is not homosexual, he is just a man who he and his wife divorced each other, after many years where he is a workaholic. He has two daughters.

It’s really funny to look at the interview of the youngest daughter.

To copy paste my comment on this I wrote before

“If you watch her interview on full screen, your brain will just perceive her as Putin.

Even the way she positions her neck when speaking is the same as father.

Also at 2:04 – the way she moves her shoulders laterally (like a boxer) when speaking, this is Putin’s unique mannerisms”

  83. Dacian Julien Soros says

The only enemy that Ceausescu could have cared about was USSR. Everybody else was tiny, or in poorer relations with the local superpower. Most of the neighbors have actually both these defects.

USSR withdrew from Romania on their own will, a decade before Ceausescu came to power. To appease the Soviets, by the time my dad was conscripted, all the military was focused on defensive battles at the border with Hungary.

So Ceausescu could have easily kept a smaller army, and still not worry about the outside enemies. But he was interested about being the follower of Trajanus, Michael the Brave, and whatnot. Three years after his release from jail after Soviet “liberation”, he was anointed a one-star general. When he became the leader of the Party, he created the job of country President, who was sworn while holding a scepter, and was styled “Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces”. Thank goodness he didn’t insist on introducing every piece of equipment during military parades, like the Great-Again Orange Man.

While he had the near-million conscripts in the barracks, he was also going through something very similar to the Globohomo outsized propaganda, but focused on pacifism. The way every American building has a gay flag or an American flag, the way every Italian or Romanian building has a crucifix or an EU flag, his people branded factories and public housing with combinations of “long live the Party”, “long live the Leader”, and white doves. His civilian parades were loaded with allegories of peace. Instead of naked trannies, we had cardboard globes circled by cardboard doves. His public gathering were often punctuated by (orchestrated) chants of “Ceausescu – peace”. Three years before his death, he arranged for a referendum regarding a reduction in Army forces by 5%. Some 300 people didn’t vote, and other 300 people votes against, out of 16 million voters. Anybody who lived through those times remembers the sole public radio broadcasting incessantly “Let there be peace in the world”, sung to the tune of fucking Hava Nagila. (Nothing like the Jews when it comes to passion for peace and state-paid “art”.)

He was driving us insane about his pacifism, while having one million people in the Army, just like Trump is interested in God and the Army, or Hillary about gay rights and protection from pedophiles.

  84. Daniel Chieh says

Perhaps you should read it a third or fourth time, because the shift into passive tone was intentional as I am not trying to make unreasonable sweeps about humans across history, much less proclaim the hilarity that is “everyone was actually psychologically traumatized,” but rather attempt to take the view of what an undefined “member of the system” might take. Perspective shifts. Try it sometimes.

Your historical view is hilarious but obviously wrong. The original authority of the monarch lay in the family – early tribes were made of from families, almost always at least nominally led by a patriarch/father. This is not metaphoric: the Napoleon Chagnon study on the Yanomamö found that the hundreds of individuals in a bit over half-dozen villages almost all came from four or five men originally.

While one can go radical feminist and claim that the family is rooted out of violence, that simple notion as a community being made out of families with outsiders having to be absorbed in as symbolic family(fictive kinship) is observed worldwide and even beyond humans. Apes, for example, usually abandon strangers to die even if the strangers of the same species follow a troop and are starving. On the occasions they integrate a stranger, usually a child, a member of the troops goes to the stranger and begins to treat it as a child of her(usually) own thus creating a fictional familial relationship.

Insofar as the evolution of the state where it ceased to actually have that blood connection between the elites and the population, there is usually an element of violence and monopoly of force which defines all states(monarchial or not) along with the above paternalistic element.

But no, you do not hire hundreds of gardeners to intimidate any more than you parade gardeners today to demonstrate military force. You hold military parades. The idea of intimidating potential foes from their dastardly plots with finely trimmed topiary is both highly entertaining and completely facile.

  85. especially in the US where people tend to be particularly “funny” about accents.

I always thought it seemed quaint when they redid British movies in America. A lot of time, it seems like the actors in the American version were foreigners anyways. Take the American version of Gaslight. It had Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman in it. Even Angela Lansbury, who had a smaller part in it, wasn’t American, though I believe her role was as a lower class Brit.

Personally, I don’t really care about accents, except I do find it very insulting when they have a POC with a British accent, or some typically white American accent like someone from Oklahoma.

I’ve mentioned it before, but Europeans used to make films in multiple languages. They were international co-productions sometimes involving three countries, and shot in three languages, with the same actors. I’d prefer that or even dubbing, to diversity.

Another idea would be to use different actors, but the same sets, props and CGI. If I were a Chinese big shot, I would attempt to make movies like this, using Euro actors for the European market. It would be a good strategy, just for taking a bite out of Hollywood, IMO, which anyways should be a major strategic goal of the Chinese, beyond money matters. This is why, a place like, HK might have some strategic value for the Chinese. Anyways, it is easy to fly people in.

Russia is AIDS infested which is usually considered synonymous with homosexuality, especially closet homosexuality where gay/bi men are in relationships with women while still having sex with men discreetly.

I find it laughable how many Russians seem to insist on the mantra “There are no gays in Russia”, and how impossibly macho Russian men supposedly are despite the AIDS epidemic and manly man Putin’s liking for homoerotic poses. 92. This comment is better written than your previous comment (although I am still not sure why you still write impolitely and triggered “Your historical view is hilarious” – why do you want to contribute to the lack of manners in the forum).

You write something about family relations in a hunter-gatherer society and imply that a king has evolved from this.

There is not much continuity between hunter-gatherer society and society which happens after agriculture. There is radical discontinuity and thousands of years of slavery (in which slaves can constitute of a majority of a population in some states, and often its predominant form of labour).

That said, our psychology mainly evolved in hunter-gatherer societies, of few dozen people, and there are many remains of this in terms of what kind of manipulations can successfully help control large populations who were adapted for a very different kind of life than life created by agriculture. Stalin, for example, can be portrayed as a father, or as if he is a family relation, even though reality was opposite, and he was the most dangerous kind of stranger. Here is quite a maladaptation, of the primitive man, for present conditions.

Personally, for many years, I remembered how I sometimes dream about Putin, usually where he is some kind of familiar character. This is brought over also in conscious life, where you “feel” like he is someone you know, or almost family.

And a similar thing is probably existing in our relation to celebrities, where we perceive them as if they are part of our family. This probably even imposes a limit on the number of celebrities there are in the “A-list” of Hollywood for any particular time (perhaps we cannot perceive familiarly more Hollywood stars, more than the number of people you would in a tribe).

you do not hire hundreds of gardeners to intimidate any more than you parade gardeners today to demonstrate military force. You hold military parades… intimidating potential foes from their dastardly plots with finely trimmed topiary is both highly entertaining and completely facile.

Of course, Schönbrunn and Peterhof are amazing display of power, far more than some Zulu warriors shouting and holding sticks.

All complexity and discipline, even in the shapes of the garden, are collateral effects of the same thing (we can call “modern state capacity”?) that will also enable Peter to defeat Sweden in this epoch. And this is no “hidden message” – it is an intention of the palace to say his power, and these kinds of palaces are quite intimidating today if you know anything about the biography of the people who owned them (biography of Peter the Great makes El Chapo Guzman seem like a small dilettante).

  93. Only 2,1% of HIV in Russia, is a result of homosexual sex.*

This could be undereported. But we are certainly (even if undereported) talking about a quite small minority of HIV cases.

What happens was a majority of HIV cases until 2016, were the result of non-sterile equipment (used by drug addicts). Since a first half of 2018, there is now a majority of HIV cases being a result of heterosexual contact.

  94. Daniel Chieh says

You write something about family relations in a hunter-gatherer society and imply that a king has evolved from this.

Yanomami are agriculturalists numbering in the tens of thousands.

There is not much continuity between hunter-gatherer society and society which happens after agriculture.

    Your thesis is fundamentally incorrect.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/sciencemain/all-europeans-are-related-if-you-go-back-just-1-6C9826523

Family researchers have long known that if you go back far enough, everyone with a European connection ends up being related to Charlemagne. The concept was laid out scientifically more than a decade ago. Now Coop and University of Southern California geneticist Peter Ralph have come up with the evidence. Their findings were published on Tuesday in the open-access journal PLOS Biology.

At any rate, this is immaterial. Even if its a “maladaptation”(a largely meaningless term), the original point stands that it can be functional as an organizing system so you’ve refuted yourself. If such a “maladaptation” allows for a society to be successful in competition versus other societies, then it is actually a positive adaptation.

  95. I’m just pleased Mr. Chieh has decided to grace us with his presence once again after a considerable hiatus. I also find his angrier new persona to be an alluring addition.

    Fucking based.

  96. All complexity and discipline, even in the shapes of the garden, are collateral effects of the same thing (we can call “modern state capacity”?) that will also enable Peter to defeat Sweden in this epoch.

You can also show your modern hydraulic engineering in the fountains – the technological level very parallel to Russia’s increasing military capacity.

    https://i.imgur.com/j35jbvd.jpg

And gardens are of course a very important display of power.

    https://i.imgur.com/r3vB4uO.jpg

  97. Yanomami are agriculturalists

So you choose an agricultural example – which means you selected an irrelevant example, as we mainly evolved our inherited social habits in the hunter-gatherer society. So Yanomami is not representing a “man in a state of nature”, that can be used to naturalize more modern forms of monarchy.

And we also know quite well how we attained our monarchy, and there is not informative or useful illustration from Yanomami to the actual history of our monarchies.

    thesis is fundamentally incorrect.

How is an article about genetic relation between European nationalities, relative to my claim there is radical discontunity between hunter-gatherer society to agricultural society? (This is no rhetorical question, I am wondering what is the connection).

Even if its a “maladaptation”(a largely meaningless term), the original point stands that it can be functional as an organizing system so you’ve refuted yourself. If such a “maladaptation” allows for a society to be successful in competition versus other societies, then it is actually a positive adaptation.

Sure, for example, Soviet Union, with Stalin could be perceived as a successful society, depending on your criteria of “success”. You say the criteria “competition versus other societies”- in which case, the Soviet Union was very successful, and it could be viewed as a positive adaptation that Stalin could be portrayed like a father or family member.

But from any not completely “great power” criteria of success and failure, portraying him as a father was a simply a false manipulation, and relies – to say metaphorically – on an old, and at the time still unpatched “vulnerability”.

This is simply a false statement, since the Bolshoy Peterhof Palace was built in the reign of Empress Elizabeth (for 20 years of rule in Russia there was no death penalty)
The fountains of Peterhof as we know them are the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century.

Palaces and parks were built by various rulers-warriors, sybarites, tyrants and philanthropists. Nothing has changed since then-only now it is masked (and the architecture is worse ).

And innovative fountain hydraulics and movement of water is from Peter.

Neither is there some change of intention because the large palace was built by a liberal Empress Catherine and later the complex is more and more developed. Sure, there is something misleading in my original text: that large palace does not show Peter I’s but the power of Empress Catherine.

Palaces and parks were built by various rulers-warriors, sybarites, tyrants and philanthropists. Nothing has changed since then

    Sure – wealth, power, authority.

However, there is a huge difference when a White House is constructed as a temporarily office where Presidents go to work every 4-8 years, and when Versailles is personal property for the sun king and his family and friends.

Comparing the rulers of the past with drug lords may please leftists, but really such a comparison

Yes, drug lords are extremely small and weak. Whereas Windsor Castle, is something far more intimidating.

  104. I have my doubts the outcome of that match wasn’t rigged.

You are just suffering the consequences of embracing racist lies. Everything that contradicts your fake worldview is a conspiracy to you delusional whackjobs.

A lot of the England players seemed quite angry at the end of the match and many refused to wear their Runners Up medals, a move they were heavily criticised for in the media but their refusal to wear the medals makes me wonder if they were ordered to let South Africa win.

You should stop wondering too much, it addles your brain. The England team, which was also racially diverse, was pissed at the French referee:

Women who do not know him, but he photobombs, are angry that he takes their photos to use in his website, where he writes on his website they are his girlfriend. The saddest part was when brown immigrants in the audience are saying “please Ukrainians don’t be racist and think all brown people are like this nerd”.

I don’t remove cookies, so YouTube promoted his strange videos as the recommended videos, very heavily for a few days after you see any of them (so clear your cookies after).

He uploads where he shows himself hiring a prostitute in Ukraine. So it’s one thing to hire prostitutes, but what kind of retard would upload a video to YouTube showing themselves hiring prostitutes. Also how is it even possible for the most outcasted brown Americans, which are rejected by American society, to be such a loser and so poor in Ukraine. (Any young Americans could live very bourgeois and luxuriously in Ukraine).

  108. I should have highlighted this part:

Russian-African relations have a rich history, while, unlike the former global powers, Russia has not tainted itself with the crimes of slavery and colonialism,” the Russian foreign ministry says in a statement. “In the middle of the last century, our country actively contributed to the achievement of national independence and sovereignty of African countries . . . Many African leaders are well aware of this.”

Emboldened by their victories in Crimea and Syria the Russians are on the offensive globally. Putin has succeeded in weakening NATO by drawing Erdogan of Turkey closer to himself. He is also winning in America’s backyard. He has kept Maduro in power in Venezuela, and he is now strengthening ties with Cuba:

    https://apnews.com/d2e58fa79c2f406c9c126c4cd46f4ef8

Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Cuba’s resilience in the face of U.S. pressure as he hosted his Cuban counterparts for talks Tuesday on expanding cooperation between the old allies.

Putin told Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel that Russia has always remained supportive of Cuba.

“It’s not easy to solve economic and social issues in the conditions that Cuba finds itself in, but you have done it successfully,” he said. “We are glad to see the strengthening of the Cuban state.”

Cuba and Russia are also heavily supporting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom the U.S. has been trying to overthrow.

Speaking to Putin, Díaz-Canel said his government considers developing ties with Russia its top priority and hailed a recent visit by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. “We observe the growing role of Russia that resists the U.S. attempts at domination,” he added.

  112. The gardening style and upper palace, etc, is designed by Peter, and he even sketches the drawings.

This is how the Peterhof Palace of Peter the Great looked-a two-storey building of very modest size.

    https://slide-share.ru/slide/3080048.jpeg

The fountains of Peter’s time were also quite different than in our time. Peterhof of the era of Peter the Great is a rather modest (even for that era) country villa with a Park. All the splendor came later.

And he is not interested in this as a garden connoisseur.

He is interested in this, exactly as a garden connoisseur, because he has been garden connoisseur. It was his hobby-he planned gardens, bought rare trees for these gardens, and even planted flowers himself

And innovative fountain hydraulics and movement of water is from Peter.

So this is another passion of Peter the Great – mechanisms. For fountains in the Summer Garden in St. Petersburg was made (and worked!) steam engine. This is not a cunning geopolitical plans, but the character of a geek.

Neither is there some change of intention because the large palace was built by a liberal Empress Catherine

Not Empress Catherine but Empress Elizabeth (youngest daughter of Peter the Great)

However, there is a huge difference when a White House is constructed as a temporarily office where Presidents go to work every 4-8 years, and when Versailles is personal property for the sun king and his family and friends.

Palaces in the era of Louis were considered as government buildings (and were used as government buildings). Рalaces as personal property for the family and friends are built in our time – only not by presidents, but by the true owners of power, who prefer to remain in the shadows.

Yes, drug lords are extremely small and weak. Whereas Windsor Castle, is something far more intimidating.

Palaces and parks are loved by all people (well, except for a fag like Varlamov). If you give people this opportunity-they will build palaces and parks for themselves. There is nothing intimidating here – it’s just human nature.

  113. French President Macron prefers legal immigrants from the Ivory Coast and Guinea to those from clandestine networks of Bulgarians and Ukrainians. Link

Not sure what he means for Bulgarians given that the country is in the European Union so they’d hardly need such networks. Besides, surely most Bulgarians head to Britain, Germany, or Sweden, with France way down the list of desirable destinations for Bulgarian workers. Macron sometimes talks in a way suggesting a general lack of empathy and social autism.

  114. very modest size.

Ok sure, part of the palace he had personally designed, was relatively modest compared to later.

Intention of Peter I was still to impress. In his desire for visual extravaganza of fountains – he has ordered a 20 kilometre canal, which is considered an “immense hydotechnical project for that period”.

exactly as a garden connoisseur, because he has been garden connoisseur. It was his hobby-he planned gardens, bought rare trees for these gardens, and even planted flowers himself

So, the interest in ships, because he was a “ship connoisseur”. And the interest in city planning, because he was “planning connoisseur”. And fashion, because “fashion connoisseur”. And artillery, because “artillery connoisseur”.

It’s just coincidence all this created a serious and modernizing European power.

Here of course the introduction of modern gardening was a display of power. This is how modern gardening is introduced in Renaissance Italy and its raison d’être. And in the time of Peter the great, all gardening is used for royal power in Versailles

Not Empress Catherine but Empress Elizabeth (youngest daughter of Peter the Great)

Lol I didn’t know this complicated timeline of Peterhof and need to visit. This building was most used by or now associated Empress Catherine?

Palaces in the era of Louis were considered as government buildings (and were used as government buildings).

Versailles includes many office buildings connected to the complex. But the central building where the king and his family – this all a pure luxury and display or wealth and power.

. Рalaces as personal property for the family and friends are built in our time – only not by presidents

Sure, but if a president has a private palace, we view today this as delegitimizing them.

If we discover our politicians are living with luxury, wealth and have vast gardens – this means they are cheating us.

    Here is a complete reversal.

  122. What is this crazy financing deal Ukraine had signed (GDP warrants?)

But another and potentially much bigger problem is not getting enough attention from investors or policymakers — Ukraine’s GDP warrants.

These are financial derivatives that were offered to the country’s eurobond holders in exchange for a 20 per cent principal writedown during its 2015 debt restructuring. They have a nominal outstanding value of $3.2bn but the government’s liabilities could be much greater.

The government is on the hook to pay warrant holders whenever Ukraine’s nominal GDP exceeds $125.4bn and real GDP growth exceeds 3 per cent, in any year from 2019 to 2038. Both of these thresholds will almost certainly be met this year, meaning 2019 is set to be the first year for which a payment is due. It will be relatively small — $100m to $200m, depending on actual growth and the exchange rate — but future payments are set to increase rapidly along with faster GDP growth.

The payout rate increases significantly if GDP growth exceeds 4 per cent. While there is a cap on payments equal to 1 per cent of GDP during the first five years, from then on there is no cap, meaning the government’s potential liability is unlimited.

It doesn’t take a lot of maths to realise that if Ukraine’s economy really takes off, these instruments could turn out to be a massive financial burden. Indeed, if the Zelensky administration is able to meet its target of expanding the economy by 40 per cent over the next five years, equal to roughly 7 per cent annual growth, the total value of payments coming due would be likely to far exceed the $3.6bn in debt relief the government received in 2015. If high levels of growth are maintained beyond the payment cap expiration in 2023, it could be forced to pay more than that each year.

Whatever option the Zelensky team decides to pursue, it is going have to accept that it must spend money today to save money tomorrow. The longer it waits, the more expensive each option is likely to become. Indeed, as Ukraine’s economic outlook has improved, warrant prices have already risen from a low of about 30 cents on the dollar in 2017 to over 92 cents today. That number is likely to go much higher if the government succeeds in delivering its reform agenda.

The epithet “immense hydotechnical project for that period” is simply ridiculous in comparison with other canal construction projects of that era.

So, the interest in ships, because he was a “ship connoisseur”…

Passion for complex mechanisms, ships (as examples of complex mechanisms?) manifested in Peter as a child. Naturally, he later justified his geek-infatuation with state interests, but this was largely a rationalization of the love of technology. Love to technology and love to gardening was hereditary in the Romanov family – his father and grandfather had the same Hobbies (weaker expressed).

To take seriously the “modesty” of the rulers of this world, it must be a very naive person. How many billions friends of the Bush family steal in the Iraq war?

Also even in royal palace, a visitor can forget the power and violence, of the family which had once owned the house.

According to this logic, at the sight of President Coolidge’s house, it is also necessary to shudder in horror – because this house hides the oppression of the colored population, colonialism, the terrible living conditions of ordinary people of that era, the previous genocide of Indians, a corrupt political system created in order for the rich to be in power, etc., etc.

  126. That said, our psychology mainly evolved in hunter-gatherer societies, of few dozen people, and there are many remains of this in terms of what kind of manipulations can successfully help control large populations who were adapted for a very different kind of life than life created by agriculture

No, thousands of years of living in agricultural and communities and hundreds of years in urban ones have led to fundamental changes in our psychology as those people with traits that were helpful in the savage forests but not so much in close quarters with many people were weeded out and removed from the gene pool and marginalized into a lower criminal class. While it may be true that many noble families originated from rather rough characters in rough times, maintaining such status required also a high degree of service to society. For example, Vankovich family originated from some east Slavic warrior Vanko who was ennobled in the 14th century by a Lithuanian prince because of his martial prowess. If the descendants were nothing more than skillful head-choppers nothing would have become of them over the centuries. But they were officials who governed and built up cities, artists, religious figures, professors, etc. This is true of such families in general. Reducing all of that to some sinister underlying gangsterism is silly at best, reflection of evil at worst.

  128. On “I was born this way” trans logic

INTRO: So sure, we accept that there’s a biological sex and a social gender because why not? It does make some sense. Biological sex is dicks, tits, skeletal structure, chromosomes an sheit, whereas the social gender is the “acceptable persona” which the person of a certain biological sex is expected to maintain.

And sure, in different places and different times, the social gender does have different characteristics. There was a time in Europe when dudes were the ones showing legs in stocking, wearing high heels, powdering their faces, and other assorted faggotry. The elements of the social gender, of “being a real man” and “being a real woman” are different in different centuries and even different decades.

Fine. Let’s say that these are some basic truths of our times.

And here they come along, and tell us that “little Timmy was born in the wrong body” (or “little Samantha”, or what have you), and as empirical proof they point to the poof—to the grown tranny who nods in agreement: “Absolutely, wrong body an sheit, ever watch Quantum Leap? If you don’t call me m’am right now, I’ll totally kill myself and you’ll deserve to go to jail.”

Fine. Let us combine TV sci-fi mumbo-jumbo with neopagan juju, and accept that Napoleon’s soul gets reincarnated into Josephine, and Clara Petacci’s soul gets reincarnated into Benito.

Or perhaps there’s a celestial “waiting room”, where newly formed souls are assigned gestating bodies (or rather, newborn bodies, since before that moment it’s just lumps of cells, yada yada), and the celestial bureaucracy gets things wrong from time to time, and a male soul gets assigned to a female body and vice versa. Sounds like something an 85 IQ writer would propose as a central concept for a romantic comedy, but hey, you never know.

Obviously, it feels like a bit of a regression to Bronze Age this, for medicine and laws to be controlled by concepts you’d expect to see scrawled down on the ancient clay tablets of Ur, but whatev.

QUESTION: How is it, that the soul “trapped in the wrong body” shows its “true nature” trough the acting out of the social gender of our time and place? How is it that this “obvious social construct”, is in fact at the same time “the authentic inner state” of the soul in question? Did we not just agree after decades of wrangling that putting on lipstick and painting your nails is a social construct and not an inherited biological reality?

And suddenly we’ve got people explaining with straight faces that “they were born this way”, and the core essence of their souls manifests itself through the social identity of a certain gender, and the imitation of biological components as far as surgery allows this?

And let’s not forget that by feminist logic a woman is “real” and “free” when she’s not following neither the social roles offered by the fascist patriarchy, nor the biological restrictions enforced by fascist biology, and that neither social constructs nor biological rules are what makes you the “real you”—you get to invent yourself in any way you like, biology, culture, and psychology be damned.

This cruel nonsense destroys lives, families, and societies, but it’s out there. It’s also part of the “accepted truths” of our times.

Yet here we are, with the tranny concept of “the wrong soul” being in “the wrong body”, and desperately trying to rectify this through compulsive-obsessive fixation on the traits of a certain “fundamentally unreal social gender”.

They are literally born with the impulse to paint their nails and put on stockings?
They are carriers of some astral-spiritual programming to bleach their hair and put on a skirt? The soul carries this in itself before it is born into our world?

    Why, this, this changes everything!!!11!!!1

This means that lipstick and stockings and skirts, far from being “a social construct”, are in fact turbo-meta-real platonic qualities enforced by the cosmos itself.

These are the philosophical implications of tranny gibberish about being born that way.

Unless perhaps this is some “remnant of social programming from a previous incarnation”?

“I was born with the impulse to wear a skirt and chop off my balls” is a statement which either means that the “social gender” here and now is in fact an ultimate divine cosmic category given to us from above, inserted into our souls before we are born, or is proof of soul reincarnation, and of these souls carrying over remnants of social programming which the soul has received in the previous life.

It would be interesting to know, in this scenario, how many reincarnations it takes for the “social programming from the previous life” to fade away?

The third option is that “I was born in the wrong body” means simply “I feel the manic desire to display hyperbolic traits of a specific social gender, and if society doesn’t pretend on all levels that I am biologically also of that—I’ll cut myself and it’ll be your fault.” But this would simply mean that someone is the victim of a specific mania, and is trying to blackmail the world into playing along.

This interpretation would be literally a second holocaust.

And yet if we take them at their word, then either they are living proof that modern gender roles of the west are in fact a cosmic truth implanted into our souls, or that reincarnation is real and we carry over traits from previous lives.

Take your pick: either an oppressive fascist paradigm about maniacs aggressively blackmailing and infiltrating society, or the cosmos works the way people thought it did back when hunter gatherers were just starting to learn to build permanent settlements.

However, for Kazan it is perhaps suitable this combination of monumentalism and eccentricity, as it became famous and distinctive that tourists associate with the city.

As for the characterization of this family as gangsters, which is what they had been – this is common description by the English historical experts.

In Henry VII, for example, there was even same policy as Mexican Drug Lords – his men kidnapped rich people, and then extort them to pay him a ransom.

Watch here (I recommend this whole video, but here is a point that describes some of this).
    https://youtu.be/QhGGg1Ikzzw?t=2609.

This is not to say, they were necessarily bad for their country. Centralizing power can have some very positive consequences, and was necessary part of the historical development – in this family’s case, not only of England, but also world history.

Windsor Castle is a very vulgar and sinister house, that reminds you of a Mafia godfather’s palace (it’s combination of violence, weapons with tasteless luxury).

    https://i.imgur.com/FaZXyNn.jpg

However, Henry XIII, son of the same Henry VII who kidnapped rich people, has jealously appropriated lands of the church, and in one case given the lands to create this masterpiece (you can see his sculpture above the entrance door).

he love of technology. Love to technology and love to gardening was hereditary in the Romanov family – his father and grandfather had the same Hobbies

Fashion for modern gardening in this style is transmitted from Italy – and particularly Medici family. Then, then, through France.

“They are not created to be simple or even functional in every case. These gardens are designed to display social status and be envied by all. The larger and more extravagant the garden, the more wealth and power the owner has.”

    http://www.belmont.edu/burs/pdf/Art%20History-Waller.pdf

Complicated, straight hedges, etc, – it has not a tradition from monastic or contemplative gardening, and does not replicate anything in nature. It was a display of wealth/power, that begins as a fashion of Renaissance Italy – cutting the hedge everyday is sign of how much labour you control (how many gardeners are working each day in Petergof?) in a fight against the behaviour of nature.

Well, this is a history of America, but not of President Coolidge.

Coolidge has given Indians American citizenship in 1924.

  141. Sure, in modern democracy, where leaders are ideally condemned for corruption (rather than praised and celebrated for it as they were in the past), then corrupt leaders will surely try to appear like honest ones.

This does not mean there are no honest leaders.

For example, I could not see any reports about Coolidge’s secret bank account in Switzerland, or that his children had apartments in Belgravia.

He was not receiving bribes from the Mellon family, even though he employed them. Sometimes – and it is great achievement of America, even if it is not consistent one – there can be honest people who are leaders, and to serve a country, rather than for themselves and their family.

Here is a Coolidge grave (at 1 minutes). It’s cool that even after death, they are just wanting normal graves. (And this for the world’s most powerful man, only 90 years after Napoleon’s absurd grave at Les Invalides in Paris).

The “wierd” tree IMHO seems to fit in quite nicely within the concave entrance, and alludes poignantly to the crown surrounding the extravagantly laticed dome at the top. What’s the “controversy” about anyway?

  143. Well, you must also like places like Windsor Castle, as there is still some hint of sinister older times in the royal family, and I am not joking when I say you have a slightly intimidating feeling, like if you accidentally entered a house of a mafia family, and are walking around their dinner table.

Aesthetics of the English Kings until around the 17th century, whose old house you have entered – also is something in the “gypsy king” theme, and the closest to this in the 20th century are mafia godfathers.

The Daley family were notoriously corrupt, and worked hand-in-hand with brutal gangsters. But Daley lived in a modest house. He just wasn’t interested in displaying wealth.

  146. I do not see a relation to sovok and neither have I ” Soviet indoctrination”.

As I wrote, I do not view you as a Sovok but you were raised in Russia and it seems that some of their poisonous views have been passed on, as you demonstrate in your comments here.

I have never been to England, but I have visited Schoenbrunn, Hermitage, Belvedere and Versailles and saw nothing sinister or mafia-like in those beautiful places. Nor have I even thought of such a thing when visiting the smaller palaces of the American industrialists in Newport Rhode Island. To me, your ideas are rather paranoid and bizarre. They must reflect the envy and hatred towards monarchs who presided over the rise of the world’s greatest civilizations, instilled in people by the Bolsheviks who sought to subvert and destroy those civilizations.

I say this not to insult you btw; I like your posts even when we disagree. Your sincerely held views probably reflect the unconscious effects of particular indoctrination.

  148. To build it – 2000 people are working every day, and they dig for 24 km. And more than a year.
And the reason? For a display of fountains outside his house.

The canal was built by the soldiers (that is, it was free labor for the state), and was used (in addition to fountains) for the water mills of the stone-cutting factory and for supplying Kronstadt with fresh water (it was transported there by barges).

Peter’s father (Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich) was much engaged in the creation of beautiful gardens in his palaces near Moscow

There is no report of the hidden billions of Coolidge or his family.

Among the monarchs were also people distinguished by exceptional modesty. So what?

  149. As I wrote, I do not view you as a Sovok but you were raised in Russia and it seems that some of their poisonous views have been passed on, as you demonstrate in your comments here.

In fairness, I think there’s a limit to how indefinitely we can extend sovok influence. I would sooner ascribe this to Western millennial liberal-leftism.

For instance, observe the hatred towards Trump’s kitschy gold-suffused interiors amongst the Blue Checkmarks (whereas we, probably, don’t care much one way or the other).

  150. envy and hatred towards monarchs who presided over the rise of the world’s greatest civilizations, instilled in people by the Bolsheviks

Bolsheviks were not motivated by envy of gold baubles and other shiny things, but rather fanatical millennial ideology. Themselves, they were mainly modest and Spartan people, and it’s just lucky they did not destroy old palaces.

If we look among teenager celebrities of today, we can say Bolsheviks’ personality type is closer to Greta Thunberg, than Kylie Jenner. Note that Greta is not a teenager who posting about designer clothes in instagram – she has some vast millennial and apocalyptic fantasy which is far more interesting for her than Gucci handbags.

In Marx’s writing, feudalism is viewed positively, as he believes it has more checks on exploitation compared to capitalism. In capitalism – believes Marx – the exploitation, which was previously checked, has becomes unadulterated.

In Marxism, aristocracy are decaying dinosaurs, who might have some local influence today (by 19th century) on the peasants. The real danger are the bourgeoisie, although they themselves are now digging their own grave by their conversion of majority population of peasantry to proletariat.

Marx himself was married to a German Baroness – although his wife was some kind of liberal revolutionary -, and there is some evidence of romanticization of feudalism in his texts (which was typical of 19th century romantic movement, which was how Marx was educated).

    • As for Russian history. Generation which was envying material shiny things, is much more people who are arriving in their adult years in the 1970-1980-s.

raised in Russia and it seems that some of their poisonous views have been passed on, as you demonstrate in your comments here…. your ideas are rather paranoid and bizarre. They must reflect the envy and hatred towards monarchs

No it reflects acquaintance of a little history. And not of reading Russian sources, but rather English sources.

For example, watch this film below, and you can brainstorm similarities and differences of Henry VII (one of England’s best ever King) to El Chapo Guzman.

Then brainstorm similarities and differences of Henry VII, to any normal person.

Compare what he is most similar to.

(For example, here is how wealthy people used to be kidnapped to pay a random to him – just like in Mexico today).

    https://youtu.be/QhGGg1Ikzzw?t=2609.

  151. Trump is fine, as his kitschy gold is from his private income, which originates from consensual transactions.

People pay him for Trump branding apartment complexes, or for using Trump golf courses. This is sum of voluntary transactions, results in his ability to buy kitschy gold toilet seats.

He does not kidnap rich people, and demand they pay him a ransom, and then use for that buying his gold toilet seats. He does not racketeer and extort, with threat of violence.

Rather, he resembles more the kind of people (those who attain wealth by consensual transactions) who are victims of historical monarch families, whose wealth rests ultimately on a monopoly of violence.

Here is again possible to apply analogy of a distinction between a businessman who relies on voluntary transactions (someone voluntarily wants to buy his innovative product) and a mafia godfather. In the mafia godfather, there is always involuntary transactions and violence in the background.

  152. Daniel Chieh says

There does seem to be an uniquely tankie obsession on hating on trappings of aristocracy, though from what I’ve seen. It in many ways the typical SJW viewpoint, but shifted in lens to focus on self-hate toward Tsarist accomplishments and achievements and then expanded toward aristocratic establishments worldwide.

Incorrect. Everything is ultimately based on force.

  154. monarchs were also people distinguished by exceptional modesty. So what?

Among the monarchs, wealth (as a symptom of power) and nepotism were perceived precisely as the key of their legitimacy and credibility to rule.

For Coolidge, the lack of wealth and nepotism, is a sign of his legitimacy and credibility. This is not anything specific to Coolidge or America, but it shows the revolution in the mentality of the people and why monarchy cannot return.

  155. There are no functional, stateless countries, which don’t have government enforcing their laws. E.g. force is required to stop Mexican drug lords from kidnapping Trump.

But Trump’s wealth requites no forcing of people. His customers are just people who want to voluntarily pay extra money for Trump branding in a very consensual transaction. (Customer interviewed says they like to pay extra because they actually think Trump is building or branding higher quality apartments).

  156. Daniel Chieh says

For Coolidge, the lack of wealth and nepotism, is a sign of his legitimacy and credibility.

This is nonsense squared. This does not even begin to address what he actually believed in.

    https://historynewsnetwork.org/article/9815

He began to sleep as many as fifteen hours out of every twenty-four and ate incessantly, sometimes to the point of abdominal distress…He engaged in temper tantrums aimed at his wife and embarrassed her with his screaming tirades. He was irritable and mean-spirited toward his surviving son, leading John to complain to his mother that he did not understand how she could possibly put up with the president. He also showed spitefulness and rudeness to staff members and was seen as unpleasant, and selfish. Apparently, Coolidge even became suspicious of his wife, guessing in 1927 that she had become romantically involved with a secret service agent and summarily relieving the agent of his duties as her bodyguard.

To be exact, Coolidge did believe in some unique things about governance but the most unique thing is the idea that a system should be self-functioning, that a well-designed government is like a well-designed clock, that it should require minimal intervention and the president is only a functionary within that system.

Notably this does not exclude monarchy; Chinese Legalism traditionally has a king, with far reaching powers, but that the king’s powers come entirely from his office rather than from his being. Even the ancient idea of divine right links into that, of the king as a servant of God in his role in governance, with the world as a “natural order” deemed by God.

Nor was humility necessarily as a poor trait for a monarch, the Biblical King Daniel has him wearing sackcloth and humbling himself. Or the Viscount of Bretuil who would deed all of his lands away to his relatives, give away all of his money to the poor, and went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Among the monarchs, wealth (as a symptom of power) and nepotism were perceived precisely as the key of their legitimacy and credibility to rule.

I thought we’ve already addressed this nonsense.

Here is again possible to apply analogy of a distinction between a businessman who relies on voluntary transactions (someone voluntarily wants to buy his innovative product) and a mafia godfather.

Even the more “legitimate” cartels such as the Sinaloa get a large part of their legitimacy through providing social services for areas in their control along with the violence. Your perception of how violence works in a society and its role in legitimacy is a cartoonish cardboard cutout.

  157. Daniel Chieh says

All laws require force to be implemented. All states require something approaching monopoly on legitimate use of violence. The idea that merchantile ethics are in fact the only valid form of ethics is hilariously happy.

  158. You misread the meaning of the comments completely, so I can only be bothered to skim your comment.

I am not saying that Coolidge has believed anything special about monarchy.

My point is that our perception is a complete reversal.

His lack of wealth and the lack of nepotism in his ancestry, is perceived as legitimizing him (and was indeed a very honest leader, so it is quite refreshing to read about him).

Historically, our view would be quite the opposite – he is not from any special lineage, and neither is there any impressive display of wealth and power.

Chinese Legalism traditionally has a king, with far reaching powers, but that the king’s powers

It’s not impossible that Chinese were more advanced in this pioneering this area, than in 16th century England.

    we’ve already addressed this nonsense.

I haven’t seen any interesting argument in your reply, just some sign that you were triggered and asking for fundraising for Karlin.

  159. Daniel Chieh says

My point is that our perception is a complete reversal.

Please correct “our perception” to “my inaccurate generalized belief to everyone else.”

  160. Thorfinnsson says

Trump’s wealth requires contracts to be enforced by the state (he has been involved in over six hundred lawsuits if memory serves) and his property to be registered by and protected by the state. Trump also benefits from the supply of his product (real estate) being limited by state regulation in key markets he operates in.

The currency in which his business is transacted is also emitted by a state-regulated central bank, and the state enforces laws that make this currency legal tender for all debts public and private.

In the absence of the state Trump would need to organize his own supply of violence to protect his properties and tenants.

  163. Poles will miss the respect of a loser who is detached from reality.

  164. In fairness, I think there’s a limit to how indefinitely we can extend sovok influence. I would sooner ascribe this to Western millennial liberal-leftism.

This would have included some references to sexism or racism. Instead it’s a rather classist anti-traditionalist Bolshevik impression.

  165. Bolsheviks were not motivated by envy of gold baubles and other shiny things, but rather fanatical millennial ideology.

They were motivated by envy of those better than they were. AK posted an excerpt from one Bolshevik rapist-writer.

Themselves, they were mainly modest and Spartan people, and it’s just lucky they did not destroy old palaces.

They lived in and used the palaces they stole. But their envy was not primarily of material objects.

If we look among teenager celebrities of today, we can say Bolsheviks’ personality type is closer to Greta Thunberg, than Kylie Jenner.

I don’t think they were analogous to either of those. They were more like mass shooter loser teenage celebrities killing the happy people.

I don’t have time to watch videos. I suspect this was about centralizing of the state’s finances and increasing its power during relative primitive times, which would be the opposite of El Chapo.

    Britannica says about him:

Generally an able administrator who made various good policies. Apparently, he was also a patron of the arts.

    Government And Administration

In home affairs, Henry achieved striking results largely by traditional methods. Like Edward IV, Henry saw that the crown must be able to display both splendour and power when occasion required. This necessitated wealth, which would also free the king from embarrassing dependence on Parliament and creditors. Solvency could be sought by economy in expenditure, such as avoidance of war and promotion of efficiency in administration, and by increasing the revenue. To increase his income from customs dues, Henry tried to encourage exports, protect home industries, help English shipping by the time-honoured method of a navigation act to ensure that English goods were carried in English ships, and find new markets by assisting John Cabot and his sons in their voyages of discovery. More fruitful was the vigorous assertion of royal fiscal rights, such as legal fees, fines and amercements, and feudal dues. This was largely achieved by continuing Yorkist methods in ordering most of the royal revenue to be paid into the chamber of the household, administered by able and energetic servants and supervised by the king himself, instead of into the Exchequer, hidebound by tradition. So efficient and ruthless were Henry’s financial methods that he left a fortune to his successor and a legacy of hatred for some of his financial ministers.

In restoring order after the civil wars, Henry used more traditional methods than was once thought. Like the Yorkist kings, he made use of a large council, presided over by himself, in which lawyers, clerics, and lesser gentry were active members. Sitting as the Court of Star Chamber, the council dealt with judicial matters, but less than was formerly thought. Nearly all the heavy fines levied for the illegal retaining of armed men toward the end of his reign were imposed in the Court of King’s Bench and by the justices of assize. Special arrangements were made for hearing poor men’s causes in the council and for trying to promote better order in Wales and the North by setting up special councils there, and more powers were entrusted to the justices of the peace. The king, moreover, could not destroy the institution of retainers, since he depended on them for much of his army, and society regarded them as natural adjuncts of rank. So Henry’s government was conservative, as it was in its relations with Parliament and with the church.

  166. Since we are discussing monarchy here, I will mention how I’ve heard people call Prince William’s little boy bad names, even though he is only about six. I find this behavior really bizarre and fascinating, even though I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a monarchist.

  167. Woah… how can one boy be so based?

Noone has mentioned Karlin’s choice for the painting that accompanies this piece, a rather grim surrealistic painting? He seems to be more and more interested in art (this is good).

  171. Oh, I meant the next thread 🙂

Is Moscow a cloudy place, especially during the winter months? Thank god that I left the north country long ago…

  173. Daniel Chieh says

He’s been posting interesting art pieces for as long as I remember. I think that both he( and I, for that matter) are in a subculture that prizes “rares” so that’s not surprising.

  174. On third thought I should have highlighted just this part:

“Russia has not tainted itself with the crimes of slavery and colonialism” the Russian foreign ministry says in a statement. “In the middle of the last century, our country actively contributed to the achievement of national independence and sovereignty of African countries”

Putin is pointing his finger right back at the West. Post WWII when the French, Dutch and British were slaughtering africans and asians who wanted independence from western european colonialism (Kenya, Algeria, Vietnam, Indonesia etc), Russia as leader of the USSR was actively trying to help them gain independence. Russia occupied the higher moral ground in that conflict.

Btw, it was the moral pressure from Russia/USSR that forced the US to pass the Civil Rights Act and open it’s doors to immigrants from non-european countries.

  175. Does Karlin do psychedelics?… I’m inclined to think you’re just slandering him though, because psychedelics and Russian nationalism don’t mesh well together.

Yes, he’s apparently experimented with the stuff…I couldn’t locate the exact open thread where he recounts about one such experiment where he went to some park with electric Christmas lights on at night. I have too much respect for Karlin to make something like this up. I think that he’s more the transhumanist intellectual type than a real Russian nationalist, writing much more about future studies topics including population projections and about dystopian and utopian future scenarios for mankind – he’s more of an Aldous Huxley intellectual type (who also experimented with hallucinogenics) than a Jean-Marie Le Pen, IMHO.

  176. This may be, however, he rarely discusses art or what it means to him personally. I’ve tried to pull him out a few times on art related subjects, and he seems to clam up, most recently about a piece of sculpture that he apparently owns within his own library of books. You, on the other hand, I recall once giving me a short primer on Chinese music sensibilities. I do enjoy reading your comments, although I must confess some of the subjects that you write about go right past me ->. 🙂

  177. Japan is getting the credit for hosting the greatest Rugby World Cup ever. This augurs well for the Olympics that it is hosting next year.

The Japanese rugby team even reached the quarterfinals beating the Russians, the Samoans, the Irish and the Scots. Here’s the Japanese team, the majority of the players look Polynesian (probably Samoans), the majority of the coaches look European (probably anglos):

    https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/nov/03/greatest-rugby-world-cup-provides-a-springboard-for-growth#img-1

The captain is half-Fijian, and one of their best players is half-Zimbabwean. A pretty diverse sports team, western-style.

  178. A couple of Japan’s players were white. They couldn’t have done as well as they did without all those mixed race and Polynesian players but this kind of thing can dilute the integrity and appeal of international sport. For as long as I’ve been alive good natured (for the most part) banter between fans of the rugby nations has been a key part of rugby fandom but if the players end up being little more than mercenaries – Polynesian and southern hemisphere born and raised until their late teens – then it all becomes just another club/franchise business.

In the minds of some cricket fans England’s success with South African Kevin Pietersen comes with an asterisk. To this day Ireland’s mostly English-accented soccer team of the 1990 World Cup is mocked by British fans. One can see plenty of examples of fans not being anywhere near as enthusiastic towards players born elsewhere than genuine locals even in a sport like tennis, which attracts liberalish middle class people cheering for individuals rather than nations – Andy Murray & Tim Henman versus Greg Rusedski, Eugenie Bouchard v Montenegrin-born Milos Raonic, or the new ‘British’ (actually Slovenian) player Johanna Konta, who receives merely polite emotionless applause because no one considers her British.

Here is the one and only “sculpture” that I own:

  182. Hi Anatoly – I like both the cat and your icon too. The piece that I had in mind was made of some sort of wire, and looked like a “stick man”, also interesting in its minimalist portraiture.

  183. I hope that you don’t have me in mind when you put the quotation marks around the word “deeply into it”. Of course I was just trying to put some levity into my comment regarding the garden in Glendzhike. I’m not the one to coach you on how to live your life, and I’m sure that you already know that that kind of stuff can be quite dangerous too. Hope you’re doing well and miss reading any of your restaurant and food reviews…

  184. Among the monarchs, wealth (as a symptom of power) and nepotism were perceived precisely as the key of their legitimacy and credibility to rule.

This is not true, since the legitimacy of monarchs was based on “divine will”, not wealth and nepotism.

And it is quite strange to cite the example of Peter the Great – he positioned himself as a personally humble servant of the state: he publicly demanded that his wife darn his clothes (to save public money), that he honestly lives on his salary (and the positions for which he received a salary he honestly deserved in the war). The palaces he built at the end of his reign were considered state property.

For Coolidge, the lack of wealth and nepotism, is a sign of his legitimacy and credibility

Today, wealth and nepotism is the same satellite of state power as in the 18th century (there were always some exceptions, but they do not change anything). And if in the Royal parks in past eras could walk ordinary people, today the private parks of the true rulers are protected as secret objects. At the same time, new particularly wasteful ways of spending public money – such as the Olympic games-have emerged.

  185. Kitschy as hell. But better than modernism.

  186. based on “divine will”,

    Which is transmitted by nepotism.

This is why Locke, when he argues against a divine right of kings – argues by showing that the Bible does not support inherited authority.

    http://www.yorku.ca/comninel/courses/3025pdf/Locke.pdf

This is the whole criticism of “Divine will of kings” in the first treatise of government – the problem is the belief that it can be passed from father to son.

    not wealth and

And which is signified by wealth, golden cloaks, etc.

quite strange to cite the example of Peter the Great – he positioned himself as a personally humble servant of the state: he publicly demanded that his wife darn his clothes (to save public money), that he honestly lives

Lover of Peter I’s ex-wife is tortured until death, his son is likely killed for a challenge to his power, he carries around dwarves for amusement. The only equivalent in the modern world (post-19th century), is the life-style is of a mafia boss, or perhaps Arab dictators.

if in the Royal parks in past eras could walk ordinary people, today the private parks of the true rulers are protected as secret objects.

Again, because if our politicians have private parks and palaces, this is perceived as delegitimizing them, – so they try to keep it secret – while formerly it was testament of power and greatness.

  187. motivated by envy of those better than they

That is definitely not the primary motivation, especially for the life they live as outlaw revolutionaries and exiles for many years before. (Although certainly some of them like Stalin have this characteristic).

They are motivated by a millennial ideology, which is very genuinely believed – and the source of their extreme motivation. You can read the ideology yourself and see the attraction today (Marxism is a masterpiece for hacking peoples’ brain by presenting materialist interpretation of traditional religious themes).

an excerpt from one Bolshevik rapist-writer.

Palaces as an property of the country as today.

Mass shooters don’t build new societies or obsess about mass literacy programs.

Again – I only have a negative viewpoint of revolutionaries, whether Lenin, Robespierre or Che Guevara. But compare to mass shooter is not a good fit, as the revolutionary is intoxicated by the dream of the new society they will construction after “Year One”.

I don’t have time to watch videos. I suspect this was about centralizing of the state’s finances and increasing its power during relative primitive times, which would be the opposite of El Chapo.

Well, you can learn from the documentary. It is better than watching Disney about princes and princesses.

Henry VII’s project is analogous to El Chapo, in the territory his cartel controls. El Chapo controlled the Sinaloa Cartel. Within Sinaloa, El Chapo was centralizing power around himself.

In Wars of the Roses – a 21st century equivalent is the wars between the cartels in Mexico, was the warring families of England.

After Henry VII’s men kill Richard III, his head smashed open in a field (in a massacre with 1000 of his men), then Henry VII’s main job is centralizing power and finances, and inducing fear and intimidation was an important part of this.

  188. Well, why? This is certainly not the level of Versailles or Peterhof, but it is a normal Park decoration such as were built in 18-19 centuries

Not really. I live close to 19th century parks and have seen many. You do too. The ones you posted look closer to gypsy palaces:

I’m rather disappointed that you can not see the difference. Were your grandparents from villages (not meant as an insult – I have villagers in my family, if they got rich and wanted to recreate a 19th century garden they would probably make something similar)?

    You think that’s kitsch, too?

The whimsical Chinese one looks kitschy (which is not a bad thing, this may even have been the point), the others do not. The stuff you posted is a kitschy version of the 18th-19th century works.

Still, a lot better than modernism. It is emulation of something higher, and indicates an attempt at bettering oneself. And even this kitschy emulation is not bad.

  189. Yeah ok Noble born Ukrainian. No one can match your success living with rednecks in upstate NY.

  190. motivated by envy of those better than they

That is definitely not the primary motivation, especially for the life they live as outlaw revolutionaries and exiles for many years before. (Although certainly some of them like Stalin have this characteristic).

They hated their own social world, in which they were losers, and wanted to destroy it and those who were better/more successful in that world than they were.

They are motivated by a millennial ideology, which is very genuinely believed

    This doesn’t contradict the above.

an excerpt from one Bolshevik rapist-writer.

? what are you talking about? Not sure the connection either, but this makes me curious.

AK posted it. I forgot the author’s name. Before the Revolution girls rejected him, but he became a Bolshevik. He literally raped the girl from the nice family whom he lusted after in school and who had rejected him before the Revolution. This was Bolshevism in its purest form.

They were more like mass shooter loser teenage celebrities killing the happy people.

Mass shooters don’t build new societies or obsess about mass literacy programs.

Analogies only go so far. The mass shooter didn’t take permanent control over a place. And Greta isn’t promoting mass literacy either. While not a perfect fit, “mass shooter” or something like Charles Manson is a closer fit than Greta.

Henry VII’s project is analogous to El Chapo, in the territory his cartel controls. El Chapo controlled the Sinaloa Cartel. Within Sinaloa, El Chapo was centralizing power around himself.

Which is the opposite of Henry VII, who was breaking the power of local lords and transferring it to the central state. The cartels in contrast destroy the centralized power/state.

Moreover, the local lords weren’t comparable to El Chapo either.

  191. Who ever said I lived in upstate NY LOL. You know metro-north doesn’t just stay in NY state.

Also, rednecks in upstate NY need not be losers, like you. And many people in upstate NY are natives of the city who have escaped, while many people in the city are rednecks who moved there and pretend to be sophisticated or whatever (the rednecks from Puerto Rican villages who moved there do not even do that).

  192. reiner Tor says

I also feel those are a bit kitschy, but I think kitsch is not an objective concept. The ancient Roman and Greek sculptures were painted in harsh colors and thus looked pretty kitschy in their original form, at least to my eyes. Early modern Europeans fell for the ruins of ancient civilization, and would probably find the original kitschy. Or maybe not, but classicism was certainly an attempt at recreating the aesthetics of ancient ruins rather than the originals (which were unknown). I personally prefer classicism with its modest colors over the harsh classical paint jobs.

  193. Which is transmitted by nepotism.

And the modern government legitimizes itself by the “choice of the people” which is transmitted by nepotism

Locke, … argues by showing that the Bible does not support inherited authority

Why are you telling me this? Personally, I do not believe in the divinity of the Bible, nor in the divinity of any authority.
Peter I incidentally, too, was Locke admirer – hereditary monarchy under him was legally liquidated by decree of 5 February 1722 (later hereditary monarchy in Russia again imposed)

Lover of Peter I’s ex-wife is tortured until death, his son is likely killed for a challenge to his power

Glebov was executed not as lover of Evdokia Lopukhina, but because investigators found in his house encrypted documents which Glebov refused decipher (Peter believed that in these documents contain details conspiracy with goal seizing power). Tsarevich Alexei was sentenced to death for high treason in favor of a foreign state (which he did commit)

Well, let’s compare- as a result of Alexei’s plot, 13 people were executed. George Bush and his entourage organized a conspiracy to use deception to start a war (in Iraq) in order to plunder public funds. The war killed at least half a million lives (including 4,000 American soldiers). George Bush lives in luxury with impunity, the Bush clan thrives. That’s really the mafia.
Mafia by definition is a criminal organization secretly existing within the state. Modern power is a mafia much more than the kings of the past, who did their dark deeds quite openly.
If you are horrified by palaces and parks created in past eras-modern state buildings should terrify you even more

  194. I also feel those are a bit kitschy, but I think kitsch is not an objective concept. The ancient Roman and Greek sculptures were painted in harsh colors and thus looked pretty kitschy in their original form, at least to my eyes.

This is absolutely not true. The real Kitsch are modern reconstructions of antique painted statues, reconstructions made in a monstrous way in the style of modern pop art

Russia’s population declined in 2018. The natural decline is quite significant, but was mitigated to a large extent by migration. The early data for 2019 shows the highest amount of migrants in 10 years.

The top three nationalities are Kazakh, Ukrainian and Tajik. The top two are mostly Russians, but the last one obviously is not. Putin’s preference for Russian speakers is understandable, but any hope that the new immigration policy – which seeks 10 million new people between 2019-2025 – would be strictly or at least largely ethnically based is already looking forlorn.

A big part of the problem for Russia is an increasing amount of not just Ukrainians but now even Belarussians are moving westwards instead, as documented a few weeks ago. Belarussians are now emigrating in almost the same levels in per capita terms as Ukrainians to the EU. And the trend shows no signs of abating.

A central conundrum for Russia is that while culture matters, so does money. Only 7% of Russians can be defined as a core middle class according to HSE (Moscow’s Higher School of Economics). The Russian state has its own definition, which is much more lenient. HSE’s definition has 16 criteria, of which wages is just one. Equally important is your ability to cover your expenses in case of a child being born, a parent suddenly dying etc. HSE’s core middle-class group’s average wage is a mere $723 per month, or 47,000 rubles. Even Romania‘s average wage is now close to $1200.

If Russian economic stagnation continues, given its low productivity, then it is entirely likely that Central Asian russian speakers will form a greater and greater share of new migrants in the outer years of the 2019-2025 timeframe. Real household incomes have been declining for five years and growth doesn’t look too good. Finally, the biggest complaint Russians have with Putin isn’t “illiberalism” or other western fantasies. It is quite understandably wealth inequality, which isn’t what reactionary lolbertarians would understand much less form a coherent plan to adress.

  199. That’s funny, just 3 weeks ago (Oct 15) you wrote this:

I just finished watching Switzerland, or rather ‘Switzerland’ given its majority non-Swiss side, defeating the 10 whites and one mixed race Irish squad. To me it doesn’t seem like much of a victory for Switzerland but the cheering Swiss fans clearly disagree with me. So the same template that worked in America is now working in Western Europe. The EU-worshipping Eastern Europeans will eventually knuckle under too.

That proves your argument today is deceitful. You know you are wrong as the above post proves yet you continue to peddle a falsehood. Why?

Do you think the japanese fans are faking their raw emotions here? GTFO:

  200. I prefer the Augustus statue without the paint

What does this super-ugly modern pseudoreconstruction have to do with ancient art? It’s like paint a black-and-white copy of a Rubens painting in photoshop with a poisonous color, and then reasoning (on the basis of this ugliness) that Rubens’s original color paintings were kitsch.

  201. reiner Tor says

Garish colors were associated with wealth, because they were expensive. Emperors wore purple, which was super expensive because of the difficulty of producing it from some sea snails or whatever (they had no chemical industry to cheaply mass produce garish colors), and was associated with wealth precisely because of this. The reconstruction of the statue paint is based on the residual paint discovered on the stone. What is sure is that it at least doesn’t contradict the written sources. White skin color was considered aristocratic, Augustus had brown hair, and he wore imperial purple. Why do you think it’s impossible?

  202. Korenchkin says

(which is not even related to agriculture)

Well trees are associated with life, nature and plant life in general, I can see it being related to agriculture too (maybe it’s an apple tree 🙂 )

But I love the dome, perfect mix of old and modern style, it gives us something that would fit in just fine with 19th Century buildings but also is obviously from the 21st, a sort of harmony
Though I’m biased since I have a strong affinity for this type of Art Nouveau

  203. White skin color was considered aristocratic, Augustus had brown hair

White skin and brown hair can be depicted in different ways. Here-the hero of the oil painting has white skin and brown hair

    http://www.kulturamira.ru/txt/pic/15.jpg

Compare with the monster in the” reconstructed ” sculpture of Augustus.

Here are the original antique colored sculptures-they are painted quite differently from the “reconstruction”:

  204. AK posted it. I forgot the author’s name.

    Eduard Bagritsky, February.

  205. I prefer the garish version of Greco-Roman architecture, just walk around Washington D.C., it looks so washed out and sterile. Imagine if it was all painted over.

  206. Do you think that the reconstruction of Augustus is some kind of sabotage to demote our heritage, to take away its sophistication and put it on par with cultures that indeed are kitschy like Hindu/Gypsy?

  207. Thulean Friend says

RBC’s coverage on the HSE study goes into some depth on the middle-class stasis.

Having children is crucial to getting into the middle class, Tikhonova said. Chances of entering the nucleus with one underage child fall by a factor of one and a half, but with two or more children by a factor of four, the report said. “This suggests that middle-class salaries do not even provide for simple demographic reproduction, throwing a child at birth to the periphery or beyond,” explained Professor HSE. Another demographic risk is retirement, with the middle class losing income after retirement.

The growth rate of the number of citizens with higher education outpaces the dynamics of new jobs for them. The share of Russians with higher education has increased dramatically among the unemployed – more than a half times, from 13.3% in 2000 to 20.6% in 2017. As a result, many Russians with higher education do not work in their professions, the quality of jobs for the middle class is deteriorating, and their social vulnerability is growing, sums up Natalia Tikhonova.

I think this, rather than Tinder or other pedestrian explanations, is a much stronger factor in answering the global fertility bust puzzle because I do not think think these patterns are isolated to Russia.

  208. I think it’s more productive to compare simple, like-to-like measures such as average wage (~$700 in Russia) rather than complex definitions created by the HSE.

Not surprising that Tajikistan is head and shoulders ahead of the rest of Central Asia. It has by far the region’s lowest wages (~$130), whereas even Kyrgyzstan is at around $230. And South Korea is drawing more and more Kyrgyz, too.

Romania puzzles me. In terms of average wages, I notice Romania is now basically a Visegrad country (~$1,200/m) instead of a Balkan country like Bulgaria (~$700/m), even though its human capital is similar to the latter and to Balkan countries in general. In fact, it’s now same as in Hungary. How did it do it? Is it sustainable?

Incidentally, how reliable are Romanian statistics?

He told me that he makes 4,000 lei ($1,000) per month. That was a doubling of his previous salary working in a factory, where he got 2,000 lei ($500).He also said that 2,000 lei is about the average Romanian salary.

Sure, n=1 is shit and all, but fwiw, what my Uber driver (in Bucharest, so presumably quite well off) told me in 2018 doesn’t sync well with official stats.

Also new car sales per capita are 50% lower than in Russia in 2018, and twice lower than in Poland and Hungary.

Made a small thread on that here: https://twitter.com/akarlin88/status/1193132906555858944

  209. All these issues preceded the global fertility bust by, like, a decade.

  210. Late 18th and early 19th century classicist Europeans were probably more refined and less savage than were ancient Romans.

  211. You seem to have side tracked again. I don’t know whether you own this sculpture or not (I doubt that you rented it out from somebody), but it does adorn your library in this photo? Tell us more about it (finally). It does seem to have a solid base that it sits upon:

  215. German_reader says

We surely wouldn’t wear a shirt depicting people

It’s not supposed to be a shirt, but a breastplate. Probably with some sort of ideological message about his rule (can’t be bothered to look for the details now, but using pieces of armor for such purposes certainly wasn’t an alien idea to the Romans; there’s a well-known description of Aeneas’ shield in the Aeneis showing future scenes of Roman history, with the battle of Actium and Augustus’ rule as its culmination. Presumably similar pieces existed in real life as well).

  216. Well, I don’t think that this photo is identified as such in open thread #91? I’m pretty sure that Karlin has included photos of his own private library before?…Please tell me more about the “Kocherga “rationalist” anti-cafe”, sounds interesting, anyway?…

  217. German_reader says

    but a breastplate

Which is important, because the entire purpose of the statue imo is to present Augustus as a strong, youthful military leader who had ended the civil wars, saved Italy from Cleopatra’s and Antony’s foreign despotism and expanded Rome’s borders to their greatest extent. So it’s not the equivalent of some Hawaii shirt, more like a modern dictator appearing in military uniform.

  218. Quite a tangent, but in Arthurian legend, King Arthur was said to have a shield with Mary, the mother of Jesus on it, painted on it. In some stories, it was on the front, and in others on the back.

I always thought this was a cool part of the legend – that it was really evocative of the faith that existed in the Middle Ages. For instance, the story about how the St. Lawrences of Howth got their name, when before a battle with the vikings, their founder prayed to St. Lawrence to carry the day.

But I wonder if the shield ever appeared in any movies? I’d guess not. They were probably too busy putting in Africans and lesbo-warriors into these films, to actually have any appreciation for the source material.

  219. BTW the second oldest Patriarchate, Alexandria, has recognized the Orthodox Church of Ukraine:

  221. When I first saw the reconstruction of Chedder Man, I laughed pretty hard because I thought it had been photoshopped by some alt-Right troll, as a joke to accentuate its waxy blackness.

  222. IMO, marble statues are kind of kitschy, with or without the paint. I prefer bronzes.

  223. I think I told you about 20 times already: That is not my library/sculpture.

  224. I answered your query about that about two times in that thread, and once there.

Kocherga is a cafe that hosts rationalist, programming, English language, transhumanist, etc. lectures and discussion groups: https://kocherga-club.ru/#schedule

  225. No, I don’t think so. Rereading Open Tread 91, you never directly answered my question about this in comment #7, but did so indirectly to “Boston Sid” previously. So, no big deal. You’re working too hard, I think, relax, take a break and go out to eat at some exotic restaurant and do a review…(you are usually quite patient with people, one of your virtues, I guess).

  226. Calling on Thorfinnsson:

After reading Fred Reed’s featured piece here, “Let’s Invade Mexico”, I’m beginning to think that a similar type invasion and incorporation of Canada “Canschluss” makes a lot more sense. Most Canadians probably wouldn’t hide in the Rockies and fight back (like Mexicans in the Sierra Madres), and most Canadians are still mostly white like Americans and speak English making them easier to penetrate and perform subterfuge. Eh? 🙂

  227. Korenchkin says

Can you imagine how insufferable the bugmen in Europe and US Coasts would be if Canschluss happened?
It would the 5th column to end all 5th columns, the entire Western world would probably collapse

Anyway I fully support it and hope they invade both Canada and Mexico at the same time

  228. own social world, in which they were losers, and wanted to destroy it and those who were better

Lenin and Trotsky became outcasts as a result of their revolutionary activity. Their revolutionary politics created their legal/social outcast/exile, not the other way round.

Stalin is more of a Mafia personality, who could be outcast in any society as a result of being leader of organized crime groups.

All of these people are more social than average people, and Trotsky and Stalin are womanizers, as was Castro, Che Guevara, Bakunin (womanizing is another typical characteristic of revolutionaries).

Stalin is tricking other people to rob banks for him, rather than directly doing it himself (he is more the position of mafia godfather, than the loser small scale criminal).

In general, if you read any biography of prominent revolutionaries, they are more often a combination very charismatic and social people with quite intellectual people that interpret ideas literally.

Often, like Che Guevara, Lenin, Fidel Castro, or Bakunin – they can be from middle class, to even wealthy background (Bakunin is from wealthy family; Cherkezishvili was a Georgian Prince), and they if wanted they could have been successful in bourgeois society.

If they become political/social outcasts, this is usually voluntary sacrifice for their revolutionary plans.

I forgot the author’s name. Before the Revolution girls rejected him, but he became a Bolshevik. He literally raped the girl from the nice family whom he lusted after in school and who had rejected him before the Revolution. This was Bolshevism

Karlin says below it is some long poem of Odessa Jewish poet Eduard Bagritsky, which is only published after his death as it is quite discussionable and has a counter-revolutionary message.

This poem seems to be counter-revolutionary, which is likely why he did not publish it (it’s revealed after his death). It seems to be about a brutalization by revolutionary and rise to power, of a Jewish boy in Odessa.

The controversy about this poem, the character is a Jewish boy, and then later as a powerful commissioner as a rapes a Jewish prostitute who he had been in his school.

At the beginning the character is nice, harmless and timid Jewish nerd, with nothing sinister – but by the end, the power, war and revolution turns him to a sinister monster, or at least someone capable of such crimes. https://www.stihi.ru/2013/02/23/9893

And Greta isn’t promoting mass literacy either. While not a perfect fit, “mass shooter” or something like Charles Manson

Less extreme aspects of Charles Manson’s personality, is common in many revolutionaries (as also religious leaders).

But in other revolutionaries, is also puritanical aspect of Greta.

Where would you categorize Robespierre? He was an extremely intelligent and talented person by the way.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_the_Supreme_Being

is the opposite of Henry VII, who was breaking the power of local lords and transferring it to the central state. The cartels in contrast destroy the centralized power/state.

But earlier, Henry VII also breaks the king,

If there is civil war in Mexico, and Sinaloa Cartel kills the president, and takes power – and then centralizes it around Sinaloa Cartel, as opposed to rival cartel.

  229. “choice of the people” which is transmitted by nepotism

Choice of the people is not transmitted by nepotism. Anyone can become a politician, if they really want – it does not depend on the father being president.

And anyone who will be president, needs to win elections against rivals.

Personally, I do not believe in the divinity of the Bible, nor in the divinity of any authority. Peter I incidentally, too, was Locke admirer

I’m not saying it against Peter I. I’m saying against your statement that “divine authority of kings” is not nepotism.

“Divine authority of kings” includes transmission from father to son. And when Locke argues against Divine authority of kings, he focuses on arguing for lack of support of nepotism in the Bible.

Mafia by definition is a criminal organization secretly existing within the state. Modern power is a mafia much more than the kings of the past, who did their dark deeds quite openly.

Modern power is regulated by preferences of the public through elections, universal vote, constitutions and legal equality.

Powerful families can still try to surpass these, but they are obstacles which are believed in by majority of people as a social consensus, and the fact powerful families have hide what was previously open is a symptom of this improvement.

  230. new car sales per capita are 50% lower than in Russia

I cannot imagine new car sales are a very accurate measure in itself, as it surely depends on how much market saturation there is (as well as other things, like urban density, public transport availability, tax regime, import of old cars, etc).

However, in Russia, while automobile ownership per capita is a still quite low (fortunately), in Romania it is even lower.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_vehicles_per_capita

So Romanian automobile market is less saturated than in Russia, so there should be greater demand for new cars for this reason in Romania, than in Russia.

On the other hand, Romania probably has greater access for importing old cars as it is in an EU common market.

Here we can see there is a rapid increase in importation of old cars to Romania.

“According to DRPCIV data cited by hotnews.ro, there were over 518,000 registrations on imported second-hand cars in Romania in 2017 – 220,000 more than in 2016 – while the new cars market was five times smaller.”

“Dacia was the most popular brand for new cars, with 30,000 units sold, while Volkswagen was number one for second-hand, with 136,000 units.”

    http://business-review.eu/news/over-518000-imported-second-hand-cars-were-registered-in-romania-last-year-155769

They import a lot of Volkswagen.

  231. This time of year isn’t the best weather for invading Canada, as Benedict Arnold found out. However, these days, we probably only really need to check the 5-day forecast.

  232. At the beginning the character is nice, harmless and timid Jewish nerd, with nothing sinister – but by the end, the power, war and revolution turns him to a sinister monster

Actually (now I searched for this poem), it is all stupid secondary interpretations published on the internet.

Actual meaning of the poem is not clear. Even the Jewish theme does not make sense – he arrests some Jewish criminals and rapes their prostitute, who was the girl he liked in school.
    https://pitzmann.ru/bagritsky-february.htm

  233. Lenin and Trotsky became outcasts as a result of their revolutionary activity. Their revolutionary politics created their legal/social outcast/exile, not the other way round.

Lenin became an outcast because of his older brother’s activity (Lenin was thrown out of law school eventually). Trotsky, as a Jew, had reason to be resentful of the system in which he wasn’t a first class citizen.

So a combination of envy and resentment, thwarted ambition, education, and evil destructiveness or bloodthirstiness.

Stalin is more of a Mafia personality, who could be outcast in any society as a result of being leader of organized crime groups

    Sure.

In general, if you read any biography of prominent revolutionaries, they are more often a combination very charismatic and social people

One can be a loser in society and also personally charismatic and capable of attracting other losers or people damaged in various ways as followers. Charles Manson is an example.

Where would you categorize Robespierre? He was an extremely intelligent and talented person by the way

    .

My admittedly non-expert view is that they represented bourgeoisie losers, who were envious of the nobility, ambitious, educated, and evil or bloodthirsty. Proto-Bolsheviks.

But earlier, Henry VII also breaks the king

Earlier the state was rather decentralized.

If there is civil war in Mexico, and Sinaloa Cartel kills the president, and takes power – and then centralizes it around Sinaloa Cartel, as opposed to rival cartel.

And if a woman had balls and a penis, a beard, broad shoulders, lacked breasts, etc. she would be a man.

For this analogy to work, El Chapo would seize power in Mexico, centralize the state to make it function efficiently, become a patron to arts and sciences, establish global trade relations that would further amplify the state’s wealth and power, and would establish a dynasty that would oversee the flowering of Mexico into a great power. There would be a cherished Guzmanesque architecture, etc. etc. It’s a silly analogy.

  234. By your own words, it sounds like a foolish proposition to me?…Last I looked (which honestly wasn’t very recently), it seems that large US companies (and multinationals that have a huge market presence in the US) dominate the economies of these countries? If you control their finances, why bother with incorporating all of their infrastructure problems too? Look at Russia and the Donbas. Other than propagnda victories for Putler, why doesn’t Russia press forward and incorporate Donbas?

  235. Even the Jewish theme does not make sense – he arrests some Jewish criminals and rapes their prostitute, who was the girl he liked in school.

That you do not react with horror and disgust towards the situation of a decent girl reduced to (forced?) prostitution and being raped by the disgusting outcast-turned-bigshot is very sad.

  236. Watching the Alabama vs LSU game on TV. Trump and Melania are in the stadium.

American Football is the quintessential american sport and spectacle. It is the most physical, violent, manly team game in the world. Consequently it is heavily and very disproportionately dominated by Americans of west african and samoan origin, demonstrating their physical superiority.

The quarterback is the leader of the team, it is the position that requires the most mental processing. Here too the top ranked quarterbacks today, both college and professional (NFL), are disproportionately of african (and samoan) ancestry, demonstrating their mental superiority.

The top 3 college quarterbacks today at ESPN are a Samoan and 2 african-americans. Only one of the top 5 is white:

    http://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr

It’s the same in the NFL: all of the top 3 quarterbacks are african-americans, and 4 of the top 5. In stark contrast 9 of the 10 lowest ranked quarterbacks are whites:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001074192/article/qb-index-week-10-lamar-jackson-vaults-aaron-rodgers

  237. Are you suggesting that black quarterbacks perhaps have higher IQ’s than white ones today, because the quarterback has historically been considered to be the “brains” of the offensive squad? Back in the day, teams almost always had white quarterbacks. It’s hard to explain how the greatest franchise in football history has had a dominance of white players, up and down the roster. As Steve Sailer pointed out (by quoting Damon Young):

SOMEONE IN NEW ENGLAND IS MAKING THE DECISION TO REFRESH THE BATTERIES FOR THE WHITE-SKILL-POSITION GENERATOR.

And then, when you have an unusual number of white players on a team—football and basketball particularly—the way they’re talked about changes. Words like “grit” and “hardworking” and “intelligent” find their way into the columns and comments and news stories about them. They’re “good locker-room guys” and “coaches on the field.” They “hustle” and they possess an unlimited amount of “guile” and “toughness.” Their “work ethics” are impeccable because they’re true “students of the game.”

Never mind that Gronkowski is basically white LeBron. And by “white LeBron” I mean “Frankenstein.”

    http://www.unz.com/isteve/is-it-racist-to-hate-the-new-england-patriots-because-they-have-too-many-white-players-hint-nope/

    That’s a dumb question.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander….hoisted by your own petard……etcetera etcetera

  240. I am sure NYC sucks. I am moving out my self. This does not change the fact that your patriot ass is living in US noble austrian blooded Ukr. Red neck part of the woods too.

  241. You must be paranoid if you feel that my reply to your seemingly distressful observation was in any way a bomb hurled your way. Just an honest question being posed in a friendly manner. Why the ascerbic reply?

  242. This is a poem.

If a poem was pro-revolutionary, then a brave and noble komissar would rescue the poor maiden from her gang. On the other hand, in this poem he rapes her and it ends abruptly. (i.e. the inversion of the traditional heroic story).

In other words, it is counter-revolutionary poem or propaganda. (At least in this unfinished/unpublished situation).

  243. You think Patrick Mahomes is an African?

    https://cdnph.upi.com/svc/sv/upi/9861537242948/2018/1/f5fa7e5f58b52a039705a76a6b0c1ff9/Patrick-Mahomes-focused-despite-sudden-success-with-Chiefs.jpg

  244. There is nothing wrong with rednecks, but I suspect that the place I live is far less redneck than New York City, which as I said is full of rednecks. Redneck immigrants from Puerto Rican or Dominican villages, redneck Russian Jews from small towns (look at the public in Brighton Beach), and Americans from redneck towns who move to the city and think they are sophisticated because they wear black and have developed an appreciation for drag queens.

What is with your obsession about my background?

  245. architecture, etc. etc. It’s a silly analogy.

It is the analogy used by English historical experts.

Why? Because the story is the same as the film the Godfather.

Racketeering, kidnapping, extortion, ruthless killing of rivals for power – all this is today only in the mafia.

El Chapo would seize power in Mexico, centralize the state to make it function efficiently

Of course, this would be a likely story, if Mexico was in the situation of England of second half of the 15th century.

The most powerful families simply fight each other for ultimate power – extremely violently – and Henry Tudor emerges as the most powerful of all.

    • Now someone who does not feel intimidation in Windsor Castle – is simply someone who is ignorant and does not know the history of its inhabitants (and indeed those inhabitants like Henry VII would be disappointed if you were not intimidated, as they wanted the population to be intimidated).

Lenin became an outcast because of his older brother’s activity

Lenin is outcast later than that.

Moreover, Lenin is in an extremely positive situation – he is in the top 1% of the country, and could be extremely successful in the bourgeois of the time, if he had not rebelled against it.

Similarly, Trotsky is in a good situation, until he chooses to become a revolutionary. He voluntarily chooses to rebel against bourgeois society, because of his conversion to Marxism.

Now – do you think religious fanatics are motivated because they are outcasts or envy better people? Or is it more that they actually believe their religion?

can be a loser in society and also personally charismatic and capable of attracting other losers or people damaged in various ways as followers. Charles Manson is an example.

Sure, but Charles Manson was a prisoner, who is illiterate. His charisma still allows him to create a small cult of hippies.

Lenin, Che Guevara, Castro, indeed Hitler – take control of countries. Their position is certainly a lot less “loser”, and more dangerously persuasive or commanding.

My admittedly non-expert view is that they represented bourgeoisie losers, who were envious of the nobility, ambitious, educated, and evil or bloodthirsty. Proto-Bolsheviks.

Robespierre is far more capable and intelligent person than most of his victims. Moreover, bourgeoisie (Girondins) had power, before his radical sect of Jacobins overpower them.

The interesting thing about Robespierre is his fanaticism, and his intoxication with cultic, millenarian ideology – whose other side is brutality of his terror.

In terms of his program, it is more revolutionary in many ways than Bolsheviks – for example, the creation of new seasons and 10 day week.

  246. You think Patrick Mahomes is an African?

Mixed race is still African-American in the US. What race is a mixed race person?

His father is a very light-skinned black

    That’s a lie.

  247. Why? Because the story is the same as the film the Godfather.

Well more violent and dramatic, and killing of your relatives – than in Godfather. Corleones would be weak and small amateurs in comparison to the history of the family that lives in Windsor Castle.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG1NpCE1B5k

  248. Lewis Hamilton of England is also mixed race. He is considered a black Formula One Champion. Last weekend he won the F1 championship for the 6th time. 249. You think Patrick Mahomes is an African?

Mixed race is still African-American in the US. What race is a mixed race person?

A person who is of 60% European descent and only 40% African descent may be an “African-American in the US” but objectively he is mostly a European.

His father is a very light-skinned black

    That’s a lie.

A mistake. I googled Pat Mahomes baseball player and saw the son in a baseball uniform. Now I see that the father is a typical African-American. Average African-American is about 20% European, so the quarterback would be about 60% European.

Here is quarterback with his parents:

  250. It is the analogy used by English historical experts.

Why? Because the story is the same as the film the Godfather.

Racketeering, kidnapping, extortion, ruthless killing of rivals for power – all this is today only in the mafia.

Sure. But the reduction of Henry VII to only that, is your bizarre approach.

Lenin became an outcast because of his older brother’s activity

Lenin is outcast later than that.

No, he was already under suspicion and suspect due to his older brother’s crimes.

Moreover, Lenin is in an extremely positive situation – he is in the top 1% of the country, and could be extremely successful in the bourgeois of the time, if he had not rebelled against it.

Why do you think he was satisfied in being merely a successful bourgeois? Do you think only the poorest people experience envy of those better than themselves?

I have known a potential mass shooter, rich background, highly intelligent. Parents bought him a sports car, he had access to their yacht, etc. Top 1%. You would think he was happy. But he is seething with hatred toward parents, and society, expresses envy in his manifesto (how dare people be happy, self-satisfied, they must be destroyed, their smugness removed forever), dropped out of an Ivy league school, involved in criminal activity. In another world he would have been a Bolshevik and someone like you would misconstrue his envy and hatred as some sort of higher asceticism.

Lenin, Che Guevara, Castro, indeed Hitler – take control of countries. Their position is certainly a lot less “lose

Lenin and Hitler (homeless, failed artist, etc.) were clearly angry losers. Castro, rejected by his parents, sent off to a boarding school as a child, engaged in bad behavior there as one would expect of an angry child. This continued into university.

  251. A person who is of 60% European descent and only 40% African descent may be an “African-American in the US” but objectively he is mostly a European.

What race is a person who is “mostly a European” or 40% African? The first black President, Obama, is 50% African.

So in this case a mixed race quarterback ranks above almost all the 100% white quarterbacks in the NFL. As do a number of other blacker quarterbacks. Yet it wasn’t so long ago that race experts were convinced that blacks didn’t have the brains for that position. They look like clueless fools now. Agree or not?

Btw, the NFL quarterback who really stands out this season has got to be Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, who convincingly beat Tom Brady’s Patriots last weekend:

  252. Look, it’s great that you take pride (I’m guessing that you’re a black man) in the accomplishments of black sportsmen. I think that I’m one of the few contributors at this blog that has louded the accomplishments of black musicians, especially within modern music. I’ve also posted favorable comments regarding black visual artists such as Romare Bearden, Kehinde Wily, etc; But to use the accomplishments of successful black sportsmen to try and denegrate white ones, is just about as tasteless and useless as whites trying to denegrate blacks. It’s just the flip side of the same tarnished coin?…

  253. Choice of the people is not transmitted by nepotism. Anyone can become a politician

This is ridiculous, because we all know that people are manipulated, and they choose from among the candidates already pre-selected by the oligarchy, and serve the interests of the oligarchy.

Of course the modern political system (with all its shortcomings) is better adapted to modern conditions than the monarchy and the time of the monarchy in any form is gone forever.

But if we assess rulers from moral perspective – modern rulers probably better than Nicholas II, but obviously much worse (from moral perspective), than Henry VIII, Richard III, or Herod the Great. On this under visiting Windsor Palace people with high morality should be in joyful mood-Palace reminds about those age when world was ruled by decent man (who sometimes beheaded their wives, but served their country) and not scum like Merkel or Obama (with their middle Eastern crimes).

  254. What race is a person who is “mostly a European” or 40% African? The first black President, Obama, is 50% African.

And 50% European. He is as much European as he is African. He can identify himself as whatever he wants, but he is equally European and African by descent and basically European-American by upbringing (he was mostly raised by his mother and by his maternal grandparents)..

Stating that blacks don’t have the brains for the position of quarterback at an elite starting NFL level would indeed be a foolish claim (like stating that Europeans don’t have the agility and/or speed to play basketball at a high level) because they are and have been at that position. Has anyone made such a claim? Moreover it is not as if NFL quarterbacks need to have the brains of physicists. There are many black football players smart enough to be quarterbacks at the top level. So it is probably one of several factors.

However, like Europeans in basketball, Africans are underrepresented at the quarterback position (and no, a single week ranking doesn’t count, just as a very cold month doesn’t disprove climate change). None of the top 25 quarterbacks of all time, are African (and only 3 of the top 25 basketball players of all time are European). Perhaps Lamar Jackson will one day make the list.

Spain just had its 4th general election in as many years.

The far-right Vox party, which has called for a state of emergency in Catalonia, involving the suspension of basic rights, could mark up the most spectacular result. Polls have suggested it could increase its support from 10 per cent in April to 12-15 per cent, making it the third biggest force in parliament.

“Sánchez has made a basic error that is very hard to understand in apparently not understanding that the verdicts in the Catalan case would benefit the right,” said Mr Torreblanca.

“The big question for Vox is how many working class votes it gets,” he added, pointing out that much of the far-right group’s initial support has been among upper income groups.

Santiago Abascal, the Vox leader, focused his last pre-election address on a request for the support of traditional leftwing voters who felt “abandoned” by the Socialists. He added that the other parties were “in a panic” about the rise of his far-right party.

Meanwhile the centre-right People’s party is hoping to mount a convincing comeback from its results in April, when it barely held on to second place with 17 per cent of the vote, but the pro-market Ciudadanos, which almost overtook the PP in April, is braced for a collapse in its support.
In an indication of Vox’s growing influence on the debate, some politicians from both the PP and Ciudadanos have signed up to the far-right party call to outlaw separatist Catalan parties.

And in his own last appeal to the electorate, Pablo Casado, the PP leader, spoke of his “affectionate relationship” with Mr Abascal of Vox and with Albert Rivera, the Ciudadanos leader, while asking for the support of their voters to avoid the break-up of Spain. “Only one team or another can win,” he said. “Territorial division or the PP.”

If you want real power, you have to move away from lolbertarianism.

I think only Portugal is left in the EU where there is not a pseudo-nationalist party with significance. For some reason, politics in Portugal is uberleftist, where social democrats compete with socialists and communists over political power and the right being completely marginalised. Strange given that public opinion polls I’ve seen, they usually do quite well re: questions of identity.

P.S. Fuck Catalonia and their pozzed ‘nationalism’.

  256. From what I understand, the Portuguese Social Democrats are members of the EPP, and have drifted to the cuckservative right several decades ago, so they are not much distinguishable from other cuckservative parties across Europe.

  257. Thanks for the explanation. However, I don’t like the idea of having such figures on a military uniform or breastplate either, though I find it way easier to accept in a premodern setting. Which further reinforces my earlier point of kitsch not being a totally objective concept.

Hard to see what to make of this (maybe it’s really in the past and not important). But European right-wing parties definitely shouldn’t accept money from such dubious outside sources (also not from Russia btw, like Austria’s Strache was willing to do to his own detriment), it makes it easy to paint them as tools of foreign interests, making a mockery of their patriotism.

Africans are underrepresented at the quarterback position.

That’s a lie. Of the 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL today, 9 are black. That’s 28%, well over double the percentage of the black population in America. What’s s more remarkable is that 7 of these 9 black quarterbacks are ranked in the top half (1-16) while 14 of the 16 in the bottom half (17-32) are white.

But this list is misleading because it includes many years when blacks couldn’t be quarterbacks in the NFL.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_starting_black_NFL_quarterbacks

Historically, black players have been excluded from playing quarterback in the NFL because of the belief that white players would not follow their leadership, or the perception that black quarterbacks lack intelligence, dependability, composure, character, or charisma. Promising black quarterbacks at the high school and college levels were often transitioned at the professional level to other positions, such as running back or wide receiver. While a ban on black players in the NFL ended in 1946, the quarterback position was among the last to be de facto desegregated.

How stupid they look now when the best quarterbacks in the NFL are mostly black while the worst are mostly white.

  261. Okay, I get it. Black quarterbacks are definitely more intelligent, dependable, more composed, exhibit better character and are more charismatic than white quarterbacks. What needs to be done is to disallow whites from playing at the quarterback position for many, many years. There, satisfied? 🙂

  262. I’m with you, Bliss. I think the league should be turned entirely black – coaches, owners, and commentators too, and that they should all clasp hands and kneel every time the national anthem is played.

You are just repeating the same thing. What is his race? In America he is african-american. Don’t pretend you didn’t know that.

While”race” is generally useful and corresponds to European vs. African ancestry it is not so useful when it comes to people of mixed ancestry. Obama may identify himself as black but objectively he is of as much European as he is African ancestry, and moreover was raised by people of European descent.

Stating that blacks don’t have the brains for the position of quarterback at an elite starting NFL level would indeed be a foolish claim…… Has anyone made such a claim?

But this list is misleading because it includes many years when blacks couldn’t be quarterbacks in the NFL.

Starting from 1990 it was 13 whites and 2 blacks on the list.

Of course, Henry VIII was a good king overall, despite living like a gypsy boss. He dissolved monasteries, creating land for colleges of Cambridge University, he created the English naval forces, which would defend from the Spanish armada. And his daughter, Elizabeth I, was one of most intelligent and popular leaders.

Nor do I have much sympathy for the Brexiteers. It’s fine to wanting less immigrants – including European immigrants – but the Brexiteers cynically went along with an anti-European migrant smear campaign and were completely silent about non-white migrants. So I have little pity for them now as they get hosed, because the leaders of the Brexit campaign were very loudly proclaiming what kind of policy they’d implement. Britain would become more globalised, not less. The issue was less European integration. In a sense, they’d speed up the transformation of the UK from a white country to a non-white one.

And this is what is happening.

I’m torn on this, because in some sense it’s very tragic, as is the entire course of British history since 1945.
On the other hand, you’re right, a lot of Brexiteers had no scruples about stirring up anti-European, especially anti-German sentiment, with all those inappropriate WW2 references. Just recently I heard the following gem from acquaintances (so not some made-up media story): German woman who has lived in England for 25 years and is married to an Englishman…being told by two mulatto women that she ought to go back. Good to know.
The pro-American sentiment of many Brexiteers is also pathetic. I don’t see how one can pretend to be patriotic and not have a problem with Trump’s open interference in British domestic politics (Merkel probably interferes in other countries as well behind the scenes…but right-wingers in Italy at least regard this as scandalous, as they should). Really as if it were the 51st state already.

It will also hold the rights to the plane, which will thus have to be first certified in Russia. According to this article, this might not bode well for the export potential, as the North American and European export markets might not accept Russian certificates for political reasons. I’m not sure if it’s really so. The biggest obstacle to Russian aviation exports so far has been the bad quality consumer service and lack of a reliable spare parts supply.

German woman who has lived in England for 25 years and is married to an Englishman…being told by two mulatto women that she ought to go back. Good to know.

IIRC, many South Asian immigrants, often Pakistanis, voted for Brexit in fairly high proportions because many European migrants often (out)competed them for similar jobs. If you were 2nd or even 3rd gen paki in the UK and some roughnecked slav came in and did your job better despite being in the country for just a few years and barely knowing the language, it got to hurt your pride (and your wallet).

So I do believe the story about the mulattos engaging in xenophobia. And why wouldn’t they? Their country’s political leadership has been bashing Europeans and bootlicking non-Europeans (often explicitly non-whites) incessantly. If that is how they are pandered to, they’d be rational in taking liberties with European migrants in the UK, knowing the political class has their back. They’re not wrong. Again, this was all happening under the noses of the Brexiteers and they did jack shit.

The pro-American sentiment of many Brexiteers is also pathetic. I don’t see how one can pretend to be patriotic and not have a problem with Trump’s open interference in British domestic politics

The UK has always been the trojan horse of the US in Europe, though in recent years that role has paradoxically gone to Germany. Obama famously liked Merkel most than any other world leader. And Merkel surely repaid that confidence by spying on other European leaders on behalf of the US, which she only apologised for once it leaked and became a huge scandal. If Trump loses in 2020, the UK could face stiff new resistance from Germany in being the #1 puppet of the US.

The utter servility of Europe is both completely pathetic and mildly amusing. It isn’t hard to see why major powers do not respect the EU. Why engage them when you can just engage their master (US)? Trump is paradoxically good for Europe, because his brash manner makes it very hard for the slaves ‘in power’ to keep bending over backwards and their electorates demand a harsher response. That all risks going away in 2020.

The reality is that the smart fraction is falling precipitously, and you can’t increase it or even halt the decline by educating black girls in science, if anything STEM is dysgenic – discouraging smarter people from breeding.

Actually, at the big industrial factories in which I began my career, we used to have a year end ‘Smoker’ before Christmas. We made seriously pointed jokes about the managers, who were often on stage and there was a lot of cross dressing. At the meal beforehand, the managers served the meal to the workers. This has been swept away by the modern culture of university graduates rather than apprentices. There were corners for unusual people to express themselves.

Henry VII became a contender for the throne when his mother, Margaret Beaufort almost the last Lancastrian, made an alliance with Elizabeth Woodville, a Yorkist queen hiding in sanctuary in fear of her life to marry Henry to Elizabeth’s daughter, also Elizabeth. This put together two deal claims to the throne. This was the crowning move of Margaret’s very considerable career of political and violent manouvering. Equal to anything Lucretia Borgia did. Maria bosses indeed but grandma often gave the orders from behind the curtain.

Even if I were a multi-millionaire I would not choose to live in NYC. It’s not a terrible place but better to visit than to live in. You, however, think it is horrible. And yet you live there. LOL.

  296. Fighting and war was one of the main passions of Henry VIII

Zog is finally, belatedly, waking up to the fact that India isn’t going to be what they hoped for either. It is only really the West where the native majorities are trapped in race/religion-blind ideologies. And even that is increasingly under strain, which invites more repression. There is a palpable sense of panic among jews like Rachman, who wants a individualistic West to be neutered, where they can do business but still retain their own tribal homelands just in case. That is an easier sell if other non-Western parts mirror this pattern. As the global tide turns, they fear the west may no longer hold out either as it stands increasingly isolated. They could well be right. Why should the West play by the rules that nobody else plays by, especially as its relative power decline? Not good news for jews.

He (unlike Obama, Merkel, etc.) did not arm ISIS and al-Qaeda in order to let millions of refugees from the Middle East into Europe.

This is rather an unrealistic conspiracy theory. Merkel arm ISIS and al-Qaeda, because she wants refugees in Germany?

    • However, it’s a good thing of the last 75 years, that great powers do not fight each other, and wars are generally limited to unequal conflicts with countries like Afghanistan.

If Henry VIII is re-incarnated today, he couldn’t attack France (it has nuclear armed submarines), and he would be limited to attacking some third world countries like Iraq or Vietnam.

Unlike Trump, Putin, Merkel, et al, – Henry VIII would personally lead the battlefield himself (as one of the last kings who still did this). If there was a bombing, Henry VIII would want to fly the planes which bombs. If there was an invasion, Henry VIII would be fighting in one of the tanks.

In this sense, there might be some improvement of Henry VIII compared to contemporary leaders, as the King would often die if the military operation is a failure. (They have some more “skin in the game”).

  302. wars that Henry VIII waged served the interests of England.

His wars are strategically most failure.

No, these wars were (on the whole) very successful. Henry inflicted a crushing defeat on Scotland (after which Scotland did not recover) and did much to conquer Ireland.
On the continent he successfully maneuvered between France and Spain and held all the continental possessions of England.

This is rather an unrealistic conspiracy theory. Merkel arm ISIS and al-Qaeda, because she wants refugees in Germany?

I don’t know why the leaders of the United States and Europe armed ISIS and al-Qaeda. But the fact that they armed ISIS and al-Qaeda (and knew perfectly well who exactly they armed) is a indisputable fact.

    What is the evidence?

Since the beginning of the civil war in Syria, the US (and the us sattelites) have openly armed and financed the Syrian “opposition” (an Alliance of ISIS, al-Qaeda and other jihadist organizations, with some addition of “democratic” rebels as a Fig leaf). After the beginning (in February 2014) of the war between ISIS and al-Qaeda weapons and money went exclusively to al-Qaeda (or rather led by al-Qaeda jihadist Alliance called “moderate rebels”). At the same time, although the rebels were officially advertised as secular supporters of democracy, the US authorities knew from the very beginning that they were jihadists (this is known from the now published “internal” documents). I assume that they usually don’t, I get the impression that a term like “white” has baggage in Russia as an Anglo-American or perhaps Germanic term that Russians would not be inclined to use?

It seems that in the majority of cases an ethnic Russian would just refer to themselves as “Russian”, or maybe even “Slavic” but almost never as “white”. Is that correct?

Why? If you wish, you can download this book in DjVu format for free. But it will be easier to believe me that in this book Henry’s foreign policy is rated as successful. That is, there is no consensus among historians.

For this instead of appeal to historians it is easier to discuss the obvious thing – the crushing defeat of Scotland fully paid for all the military expenses of Henry, so Henry war (in General) should be considered successful

  309. We can read that CIA has aided FSA

Which was used as a Fig leaf so that the US and sattelites could arm ISIS and al Qaeda without shocking the ordinary voter. Angela Merkel passively supported this policy, and she actively supported the policy of settling Europe with refugees from Syria.

Reddit is not a very reliable website

Of course, but you on this site can easily get a link to a secret CIA report for Obama (which later became known), which talked about who the Syrian opposition (jihadists). That is, Obama knew who he was arming and funding. However without Reddit here is: https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2018/06/27/ben-rhodes-admits-obama-armed-jihadists-syria-bombshell-interview/

But as we’ve pointed out many times over the years, this narrative ignores and seeks to whitewash possibly the largest CIA covert program in history, started by Obama, which armed and funded a jihadist insurgency bent of overthrowing Assad to the tune of $1 billion a year (one-fifteenth of the CIA’s publicly known budget according to leaked Edward Snowden documents revealed by the Washington Post).
It also ignores the well established fact, documented in both US intelligence reports and authenticated battlefield footage, that ISIS and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) jointly fought under a single US-backed command structure during the early years of the war in Syria, even as late as throughout 2013 — something confirmed by University of Oklahoma professor Joshua Landis, widely considered to be the world’s foremost expert on Syria
    .”

  310. The interview in the article does not say what they claim – that the US is arming intentionally ISIS or Al Qaeda.

Here is the part of the interview with Ben Rhodes which they say in the article is decisive

Yeah, but, the fact of the matter is that once it kind of devolved into kind of a sectarian-based civil war with different sides fighting for their perceived survival, I think we, the ability to bring that type of situation to close, and part of what I wrestled with in the book is the limits of our ability to pull a lever and make killing like that stop once it’s underway.

So that’s why I still look to that initial opening window. I also describe, there was a slight absurdity in the fact that we were debating options to provide military support to the opposition at the same time that we were deciding to designate al-Nusra, a big chunk of that opposition, as a terrorist organization. So there was kind of a schizophrenia that’s inherent in a lot of U.S. foreign policy that came to a head in Syria.

    https://theintercept.com/2018/06/22/is-it-time-to-reckon-with-obamas-foreign-policy-legacy/

US was trying to arm the Syrian rebels, while trying to avoid arming to ISIS or Al Qaeda.

This became a problem to them, because a large part of the rebels merged to al-Nusra, who they designated as terrorist at the same time.

Obviously, they don’t intentionally want to arm ISIS or Al Qaeda – they were bombing them (US soldiers are in Syria mainly to aid Kurds to fight ISIS). But there was inherent schizophrenia in the policy, as a large part of the rebels was linked to al-Nusra.

He is quite honest in the interview in saying it is incompetent.

    • As for Merkel. I can’t find her role in the Syrian war externally, except that she opens Germany’s borders for Syrian immigration in 2015.

  312. From what I have seen (e.g. documentaries), there is a consensus that Henry VIII had various successful achievements in his internal policy.

However, they usually criticize his external policy.

I am not very knowledgeable about this war with Scotland – but you can see there are also sources which do not agree that Henry VIII was successful in Scotland.

Here in an article in The Scotsman newspaper:

Yet despite winning a decisive battle against the Scots at Pinkie Cleugh in 1547, and occupying several castles for prolonged periods, the English crown achieved little during the campaign other than spending considerable amounts of money and causing misery for the local populace.

Its principal aim – to ensure the marriage of Mary, Queen of Scots to Henry’s son Edward – was a total failure.

That’s right. “Color” self-identification is meaningless in Russia (where 90% of the population is “white”).

  314. The interview in the article does not say what they claim – that the US is arming intentionally ISIS or Al Qaeda.

It is absolutely ridiculous-the USA armed and financed al-Qaeda (in Syria) unintentionally for five years. Everyone knew who and how to use American weapons, but only naive American politicians (and their European allies) did not know. I have no desire to waste time on the fight against denialism, if you have the desire to understand all the details of US policy in Syria you will easily find the relevant materials yourself. The fact that the US (and their European allies) consciously armed, financed, and used al-Qaeda (and to a lesser extent ISIS) in Syria is as much a fact as the fact that the sun rises in the morning.

I venture to suggest that for an English/Scottish historian to call the destruction of Scotland/extermination of the Scots a successful policy is impossible for political reasons.

But the results are known-Scotland was absorbed into England because of its military/economic/demographic weakness. If Scotland were a stronger Kingdom-England would not be able to swallow Scotland
