I visited Portugal in 2018, including the area around Lisbon (2018) and a whole bunch of towns, beaches, sepulchral churches, and wines inland.

I wrote a comprehensive writeup of that trip, so I will not go at length about it here. Suffice to say I greatly enjoyed Portugal, and it deserves its reputation as a downshifting hub for moneyed Americans. The Lisbon cityscape is whitish, tiled, and placid. Food is a mixed bag; the sardines were an interesting novelty, but they got tired fast. Happily, Portugal has a substantial Indian minority (India’s annexation of Goa in 1961), so subsisting on Indian food washed down by copious amounts of vinho verde would be a very valid choice!
