Virgin Western “Russia expert” ranting about Putler suppressing the democratic opposition vs. the Chad loremaster of the most obscure and esoteric metapolitical sects.
There is unironically more value in this one meme by /u/roastedfroggo than in dozens of Western political science/”transitionology” books and articles, which are in net terms negative value added. (That is, you come out knowing fewer correct things about Russia after consuming them).
Not much I’d change about it.
I’d combine the Sovok Boomer with the Batya, they’re essentially the same, ultimately quite herbivorous creature. Replace Boomer with the Soviet Nationalist, like Prokhanov, or Israel Shamir.
Replace monarcho-Stalinist with the better known Eurasianist.
Putinist conspiracy theorist is basically a sub-species of conspiracy orienated ultra-Putlerists, which would also include NOD and Starikov, as well as the various “Russia as US/British/ZOG crypto-colony” theorists.
Ordinary guy should just be a “vatnik” / Uralvagonzavod worker. His archetype is the single most numerous one. Don’t care much for politics, vote Putler, make the non-adjacent Wojaks cry.
Kholmogorov is Conservative Priest/Monarchist.
Prosvirnin (former Sputnik & Pogrom) is Zoomer Nationalist/Self-Loathing Lib.
But most zoomer nationalists are actually quite OK, and some of the most memetically powerful (or cringe?) … incidentally, I even covered the Empress Tessa a few months ago. So you know where that’s coming from.
The libertarian fuhrer is ofc a pedophile ephebophile. How could it be otherwise – the memes never lie.
Anyhow, study this meme carefully, and grow wiser. /u/roastedfroggo helpfully included some clarification of terms:
- Batya is a coloquial term for dad in Russian.
- The Nazbol spits out the typical nazbol slogans from the 2000s.
- Monarcho-stalinists do exists, but most of them wouldn’t identify themselvs like that. They just share the common way of thinking represented in the meme.
- Kulich is a slavic orthodox dish served during Easter.
- Shashlik is a meat dish, which originated from Central Asia and Caucuses, but got popularized in Russia and it’s kind of part of Russian celebration diet right now.
- Vanga is a Bylgarian mystic and prophetess, who has gained traction in Russia for some reason.
- Churka is an ethnic slur for people from Central Asia (sometimes from Caucasus). The are basically an analogue for Mexicans in Russia.
- Fyodorov is a representetive, who serves in Duma and is leader of the NOD (National Liberetion Movement) movement. They are weird guys, who think that Russian officials are responsible to the American government and FRS and that nothing can be done here without American permission. According to them, Putin tries to resist it and make Russia independent, but the whole state machinery is against him.
- The priest words refer to a statement by Dmitry Smirnov. He was answering congregation’s questions when one of the women asked what percent of her salsry she should grant to the church. He answered that she should donate all her salary, because she has some food (like cereals) at home and that’s enough for living.
- Tessa Violet was a meme among Russian zoomer nationalists because of her “Crush” video, where her haircolour looked similar to the Russian imperial flag. The proclaimed her the empress of the future Russian National State and were memeing hard about it.
- The old liberals are those, who were part of the dissedent movement in the USSR or those who later took part in building new Russia in the 90s. Some notable examples: Boris Nemtsov, Yulia Latynina, Valeriya Novodvorskaya.
- Yes, there were left wing dissedents in the Soviet union. Some notable examples: Boris Kagarlitsky, Alexander Tarasov.
- Navalny is the biggest and the most prominent member of opposition right now in Russia.
- Higher School of Economics is one of the best universities in Russia known for its free market stances.
- The Private Security Compony employee description refers to the recent protests against dump of waste in Russia (Protests in Shiyes).
- Mihail Svetov is a prominent member of the Russian Libertarian Party, who almost single-handedly made it relevant.
- The anarchist description refers to the recent government’s crackdown on anarchist organizations and anarchists in Russia. You might want to look up the Network case and …. Shit, I can’t find any info in English about others, so that’s it.
PS. There’s versions of this for China, Germany, other countries. /r/PoliticalCompassMemes is one of the best meme subreddits, perhaps second after the Virgin vs. Chad one.

The obvious lesson here is how far left the GOP could conceivably go on econ policy, and win the elections.
Where would the normal people intellectual elites fall? Like a MGIMO graduate? A PKU grad would be in the CCP reformist box.

Hmm so this is the big project that’s been keeping you busy lately…
I was beginning to think that corona got him. You would think that with Moscow’s partial quarantine his blogging output would skyrocket…
Corona won’t get him, it’ll be fasting-till-failure.
On a more serious note, this quarantine seems to actually be very bad for most people’s productivity. Without regular irl social interaction, a proper sleep schedule, a routine, etc productivity tends to go to shit.
Is the university system globally a source of Poz?
When you think of it, BYU, the only large right wing institution in the US with any respectability, was hard for Egg McMuffin in 2016.
The Pagans have something to say vaccines. They should be saying it to make teh chart contemporary.
The german one is horribly reddit.
Like everything from that country.
Universities are horrible institutions and clearly one of the leading sources of cultural decay. Having these deranged loons indoctrinate your kids at the crucial moment they’re becoming more responsible/independent in a truly adult way is only going to backfire.
I was going to say there was this guy from Germany who was the antithesis of reddit, but he was Austrian.
Anarchists from the “Network” were involved in the drug trade, and were guilty of killing witnesses of the drug trade. These people are more gangsters than anarchists
I think Anatoly should take a break from whatever he is currently doing and write an article on this issue:
Official COVID death toll in Moscow stood at 611 in April.
In purely mathematical terms 611 is about 70% smaller than 1800, therefore…
New York Times “solves a mystery”:

Of course it wouldn’t have anything to do with support for their fellow coreligionist? Nor for supporting a Massachusetts carpetbagger coreligionist in his senatorial campaign?
Very fun article, thanks!
“Batya is a coloquial term for dad in Russian.” — But also! Belarus’s prez Lukashenko is also “the father of the people” as in also known as “Batyka”, and the emoji-like representation in this delightful compass does indeed look like Lukashensko. So this is a “double-Batya”—not just the generic “USSR nostaligc Dad”, but merged with its avatar manifestation in the political world—Lukashenko.
The “Zoomer Urbanist” archetype would be blogger Varlamov. https://varlamov.ru/ P.S. the dude travels constantly across Russia and the world, including Africa and Asia, so spend a few days surfing his stuff and you’ll see all sorts of great stuff, except the urbanist faggotry.
When you read booking feedback about hotels and resorts and sheit, the westerns are all like “it’s great but the furniture is old”, the third worlders are all like “boo hoo the waiter ignored me this is racism!!!111”, while the eastern Europeans, Russians very much included, their feedback tells you what you actually need to know. Do the local natives steal stuff, are they inefficient, does the beach smell of turds, will local darkies ogle your wife, and so on.

And in spite of being a “young liberal urbanist”, Varlamov can’t help being a creature of his culture (which is once more a reminder that a Slavland liberal only thinks he’s like Western libeals, but in reality would be called a Nazi by them), and when he presents Kenya or Nigeria or China or Bangladesh or whatever—he’s rather very objective. Far too objective to be tolerated in the western internets.
Except when he’s in Northern Europe, then it’s all bicycle alley porn.

Interesting analysis by New York Times. Here is data on mortality in Moscow by month for 2017 and 2018 https://ritual.ru/poleznaya-informacia/articles/statistika-smertnosti-v-moskve/
https://ritual.ru/upload/medialibrary/1a3/555.jpg
If we proceed from the above method (invented by the New York Times), then in Moscow in March-April 2018, was a hidden (by the authorities) epidemic of coronavirus with thousands of deaths.
Here are the deaths in Moscow over the past three years for the period March-April:
2018 — 22,613 people
2019 — 20,065 people
2020 — 22,244 people
But (despite the fact that this “analysis” is bullshit) there is no doubt that there are unrecorded deaths from coronavirus (but this also applies to other countries)
For Moscow – there is around 18,4% more deaths for April 2020 than in April 2019, and from reasons recorded as other than Covid – more by around 12,4% of deaths.
Intuitively, we imagine self-isolation should have reduced the deaths in April 2020, compared to 2019, but here are 12,4% excess deaths above those from Covid.
So the pandemic is a possible explanation, or suspect, for explaining the extra 1841 deaths compared to last year. In the next years, people will analyze excess deaths in different countries, and it will all become clearer. For now, it is just a typical game people do with limited information (Similar kinds of inferences have been popular in Spain, in Italy, etc)

Interesting that the /TrumpVirus reddit says that the end lock down movement is a Russian conspiracy to trick us into opening our economy too soon and wreck our country. They have this as a stickied post.
Looks like the left is all Russia Did It and the right is all China Did It.
Varlamov (a blogger) has photographed great “social distancing” of Muslim crowds in some free food distribution event in Saint-Petersburg.
In their favour, at least half of the guys wear this semi-useless kind of medical mask, so sadly to say they are probably being more responsible and less infectious than the average supermarket in England.

It is difficult to say because there is a sharp deterioration in conditions for the treatment of non-coronavirus patients (which will cause an increase in mortality from non-coronavirus), as well as a General deterioration in living conditions due to stress and isolation (people are forbidden to leave their homes to walk in the Park, etc.)
According to statistics, because of the lockdown increased sales of alcohol – as this will affect the death rate is quite obvious.
In addition, there is another factor – because of the abnormally mild weather this winter, those who would have died in a normal winter did not die. These are people who are on the verge of death – now they will die in April, Мay, etc.
I think the following is true.
1 Publication in the new York times propaganda conspiracy theory, but not analysis
2 in Moscow, clearly there should have been a noticeable number of hidden deaths from coronavirus, but it is currently impossible to determine this number from the statistics of total mortality
This is not Varlamov of course photographed, he just reposted the photo. The person who arranged the food distribution was immediately arrested for creating a crowd (and then fined)
It’s possible, but there is discussion in America is about a fall in deaths e.g. heart attacks and strokes.
https://www.unz.com/isteve/where-have-all-the-heart-attacks-gone/
Obviously, but with limited information, excess deaths is how internationally media has been discussing this topic.

According to metadata, files are created with “LUMIX DC-GH5”.
File is edited Adobe Lightroom from Mac App Store. Photos are edited on Adobe Lightroom, on Apple Mac, 2 hours before it’s published by fontanka – i.e. Varlamov sent the photos to fontanka, which published them anonymously on the day. ( https://www.fontanka.ru/2020/05/10/69251491 )
Quick check if there is a match to Varlamov: DC-GH5 is his camera for shooting videos.

And he uses a Macbook.

If this freak really was at the Apraxin market during the distribution of free food, then (with a high probability) he organized all this himself (in order to take pictures)
But in the Newspapers of St. Petersburg, this photo was published without links to Varlamov, so I think that he did not take the photo
In April 2018, the number of deaths in Moscow increased by 14% compared to April 2017. So what?
It is possible and necessary to discuss the issues of non-registered deaths from coronavirus, but there is no discussion in the new York times, but the usual conspiracy propaganda theory based on cherry picking
Navalny Fanboys should be somewhere next to the Technofetishists (more appropriately labeled Musk Fanboys). In fact, those groups overlap to a considerable extent.
Another strain of thought closely related to those two is Anti-Cargo-Cult – “everything done here is fake and made of shit and sticks”, “elections are fake”, “Skolkovo is fake”, etc.

Some things are much more important than blogging. I for one fully support our esteemed host in all his endeavour’s.
Right wingers are increasingly become “globalist” like much of the left. Except that they want a sort of Christian (or at least anti-Muslim), trad-con globalism.
Old fashioned “keep all foreigners out” ethnic nationalism, as in the National Front of Britain in the 1960s-1970s is never coming back. The right think as globally as the left do now.
I sort of understand what you mean, but I don’t see a contradiction between nationalists thinking globally or communicating with nationalists in other countries and ethnic-nationalism/exclusion of foreigners.
The leaders of the 60s/70s National Front were in communication with nationalists from other countries and took ideas from them.
The National Front leadership (Chesterton, Tyndall etc.) came out of more explicitly Fascist parties which were very pan-European and internationalist in outlook, far more than anyone popular today.
2.March 2018 there was the same number of deaths
3.Do you remember these dumb retards talking about the “suspicious” deaths from pneumonia….. IN JANUARY!!- they are just unable to report that we are doing very well, with a very low death rate
4.Moscow is way OTT in hospitalising or placing under observation people for nothing things- such as not whistling properly! I am fairly confident that they have among the very best, accurate figures.
An accurate map. Most American politicians govern in the lower-right quadrant – social liberals with austerity economics, Bush, Obama, Clintons – all lower-right quadrant. So is Trump in his actions, but he is savvy enough to talk like upper-left.
Almost all current Western leaders fit in the lower-right quadrant. How is it a ‘democracy’ if people preferences are not reflected in outcomes? Results are all that matters to rational people, all else is empty talk (we are back to Trump again).
Putin seems to be in the upper-right quadrant. The upper-right at least preserves the society for the future, but it’s not much fun to live in. Historically, it is an unsustainable cul-de-sac.
These little political compasses are surprisingly effective ways of organizing and providing information.
Your graphic has Pepes on the left and on the right.
Not sure what is being clarified.
The files are created on “Lumix DC-GH5”. This is the camera which we know Varlamov uses for recording YouTube videos.
It would be a co-incidence, if the files were made using the same model of camera as Varlamov uses for Vlogging, when it was not Varlamov who shoots the photos.
It is edited on an Apple Mac, 2 hours before his liberal local friends (fontanka.ru) have published the photos. So Varlamov edited the photos on his Macbook, and then emails them to sympathetic to him local media.
Next day, he publishes the story for his blog, where he implies he is the only person to photographs the event – which matches the fact photos of the event are from Lumix GH5 and edited with Apple Mac.
The story originated from Financial Times, not New York Times. Financial Times is one of the most prestigious newspapers in London, not the politically deranged liberal newspaper in New York.
It’s possible Financial Times are cherrypicking the year, rather than looks at a multiyear average (their content is here and I’m too lazy bother to run around the paywall).

There’s summary of the content in РБК.
https://www.rbc.ru/society/12/05/2020/5eba22969a79472afb8aa64b
However, Financial Times wrote exactly the same type of ideas about London (just as El Pais writes the same ones about Madrid) – without English readers suffering persecution dreams from it.

I wonder where the right wingers like Strelkov seething about Putin as a puppet of UK/America are
The European nationalist right-wing parties tend to be bad at this coordination.
From experience, there’s almost no shared events between the Canadian Conservative Party and the GOP.
The average person does sense a contradiction. In regular polls, people routinely cite the food as a benefit of immigration. So it looks like hypocrisy if we are spotted at a Chinese restaurant.
I think localism is a better route to follow than “transnational nationalism”.
I enjoy any efforts at categorization, but there really should be an axis of conformity.
Also, should be more efforts at making political power diagrams. Something that is a pictorial representation of why libertarianism doesn’t work would be a start.
Could you elaborate and give an example of a ‘political power diagram’?
Best one I can think of for why libertarianism doesn’t work is Lee Drutman’s Figure 2 (ie, nobody is socially liberal, economically conservative, but lots more are the reverse), but you may have something else in mind.
