Small Government Is a White Thing

Emil Kirkegaard dug through a PEW dataset to find out who supports big government.

This is in line with the finding that 94% of American libertarians are non-Hispanic whites:

More than two-thirds (68 percent) of libertarians are men, while 32 percent are women. They are also racially homogeneous, with nearly all (94 percent) libertarians identifying as non-Hispanic whites. They also skew significantly younger. More than 6-in-10 (62 percent) libertarians are under the age of 50, including one-quarter (25 percent) who are under the age of 30.

Here are the US Census Bureau projections about America’s future demographic makeup:

Charles Murray isn’t going to be happy about this. His is a doomed ideology.

Comments

  1. I’d judge that libertarians stake out indefensible positions.

If you go extinct in service to your cause, that does not recommend it much.

  2. Abelard Lindsey says

Perhaps this is the reason why so many young libertarians have discovered the alt-right. Call it “liberatarianism in one country”.

  3. As long as you have these numbers, please put up something like “% of Libertarians who are Female.”

Willing to bet it puts the sage in sausagefest.

Ah wait. You had it in the text.

32%? 32% of Libertarians are female? Not sure I am buying that one. Don’t think I have ever met a single one.

Maybe they just don’t talk about gold, the Fed, pot, or Ron Paul in public?

  4. Libertarianism is not “white people thing”, it is 1%-0,1% of American “white people” thing. Serious libertarians recognized long ago that 99+% of human race does not need and does not want “freedom” as defined by libertarians.

See “How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World” magnum opus of Harry Browne, Libertarian party presidential candidate.

The message is: libertarian political activism is futile, to try to free world that does not want to be free is sure way to waste your life, if you want to be free, you have to recognize that world owes you nothing and you owe nothing to the world and free yourself personally, both physically and mentally.

This was back in 1973, 44 years ago. No idea how this square with Browne’s latter presidential campaign.
