Today I have been granted the GREAT OPPORTUNITY and PRIVILEGE of serving Russia and President PUTIN as guinea pig for Gam-COVID-Vac, that is, the SPUTNIK V vaccine.
Accounting for Phase I-II participants, I calculated I’m the 503rd person in the world (officially) testing it, out of perhaps hundreds of millions to come.
Assuming, that is, that I actually got the chip vaccine. Of the 40,000 people that are to participate in Phase III, which is limited to Muscovites who pass the requisite health screening, a quarter will receive a placebo. I will find out in around 42 days.
Please keep off topic posts to the current Open Thread.
If you are new to my work, start here.
Do you get to keep the vaccine guinea pig bragging rights if it turns out you actually had the placebo?
Any behavioral instructions?
Oh buddy….
Looking forward to new articles praising your new overlord, Bill Gates and his Satanic Lizard controllers.
Awesome! Looking forward to notes on your progress.
Incidentally what happens after 42 days? Aren’t you supposed to get a booster shot 3 weeks (?) after the first, placebo or not?
Correct, there’s a booster in 21 days. The blood test for antibodies happens in 42 days. I suppose there’s nothing stopping me from getting one sooner at a clinic, but what’s the point, I either got the vaccine or I didn’t.
Don’t eat 2 hours before the vaccine. Don’t drink alcohol for three days before or after. Moderate alcohol drinking, and don’t smoke more than 10 cigs a day, if you’re a smoker. Try not to get pregnant within 3 months of the vaccine. Don’t recall any major points apart from that, though I do have them listed on the documentation I got.
Best wishes!
Hope the world can go back to “normal” soon.
In this life of illusion and quasi-illusion, the person of solid virtues who can be admired for something more substantial than his well-knownness often proves to be the unsung hero: the teacher, the doctor, the blogger, the honest memer the hard worker at underpaid, unglamorous jobs.

Seriously though AK, thanks and good job!
This makes Bill Gates cry.
Also, a little excerpt from Enik Bilal’s “The Woman Trap” applies

Bragging rights— yes. Immunity— no.
A mass campaign it’s going to mess with the birthrate
I guess you won’t have to worry unless you start to grow scales and start to have the urge to eat small insects, but hey, you’ll be in good company.

So nothing major about self quarantine. Good.
You’re serving more than Russia. You’re serving mankind.
Incidentally, perhaps you or others could enlighten me about the rationale behind having double-blind vaccine trials. Do they expect antibodies to appear by spontaneous generation in the placebo subjects?
Of course double-blindness would make sense in a challenge trial, in which subjects are exposed to the virus, but I suppose it would never be allowed to innoculate subjects with placebo in that kind of trial, for obvious ethical reasons.
Nurses seem vastly more likely to wear crosses than other women.
You da man Anatoly…
Unfortunately, it seems we will be given the Astra Zeneca “Chimp” vaccine as only choice
http://images.rapgenius.com/46bb57d90e7f3692014a769f2c3007cc.380x220x27.gif
Uh, I didn’t give you permission to use my photo.
The reason for double-blind trials probably has nothing to do with the vaccine’s effectiveness at stopping Corona. Rather it’s to detect possible side effects which may have a low incidence rate.
If there were no placebo group for comparison, any random recipient could claim the vaccine “caused” his autism or ED or whatever, as the current insane anti-vaxx movement aptly demonstrates. The only way to assess the claim’s validity is through a statistical comparison. Using the general population as a control would be unreliable as the demographic makeup of volunteers is likely much different.
The third phase controls not only for antibody levels, but for side effects as well, using the large representative sample.
Certainly. First and most important, money talks. Big Pharma was salivating at the prospect of getting huge profits on this vaccine. The US government is always subservient to big corporations, pharmaceutical or not. Second, the US mounted the worst response in the world to the epidemic: totally inefficient at preventing its spread but remarkably efficient at killing the economy. So, it’s only fitting that the US will use and push the worst vaccine available.
Welcome to the “free market”: sweet communism for the top 0.01% and cutthroat “let the buyer beware” capitalism for the rest of us.
The objective would be to note any differences between the two groups in terms of side effects and efficacy. For example if an roughly equal % of the two groups – assuming large enough random samples – got heart attacks, then the vaccine most likely was not a cause. Conversely if an equal % of both – assuming similar preventive behavior – got infected with COVID-19, then the vaccine is most likely ineffective.
The key with Phase 3 trials is to have large enough samples – and at least 40,000 appears to be the goal – to be able to make statistically valid inferences the safety and efficacy of the vaccine vs control.
What’s the point of taking the vaccine if you have a healthy immune system?
Fauci takes shit-loads of Vitamin D and he also takes Vitamin C so he probably knows the vaccine stuff is bogus:
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/14/supplements-white-house-advisor-fauci-takes-every-day-to-help-keep-his-immune-system-healthy.html
He seems to be taking 6,000 IUs of Vitamin D a day …
Have you heard of the 2 AstraZeneca volunteers in the UK who developed transverse myelitis after testing the AV vaccine?
https://www.rt.com/news/501221-astrazeneca-vaccine-neurological-condition/
So now you may have TRVE GOD EMPEROR PVTLER BLOD inside of you.
RT is reporting that a second woman in AstraSeneca’s trials got transverse myelitis.
Transverse mielitis is a rare neurological disease with an incidence is 4.3 per million in the USA according to NIH-National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
It is caused, among other things, by viral infections.
So a second individual with transverse myelitis in AstraSeneca’s trials, if confirmed (RT quotes “sources” and the NYT) looks like a fatal failure.
It seems the origin of the claim that AstraZeneca’s trials have been affected by two cases of transverse myelitis is Nature:
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02594-w
From the Nature News article:
“It is the second time that administration of the vaccine has been paused in the UK, according to two people who took part in the study and to information sheets uploaded to a clinical trial registry. Previously, a participant developed symptoms of transverse myelitis, an inflammation of the spinal cord which is often sparked by viral infections, according to an information sheet given to trial participants dated 12 July. After a safety review, the trial resumed. The individual was diagnosed with an “unrelated neurological illness”.”
yesterday it was officially reported that about 700 people were vaccinated. Maybe it’s with the inclusion of the Novosibirsk vaccine
To prevent giving it to the elderly.
Not the Moderna vaccine?
I miss Greasy Williams; he would have given us a WYB rating on nurse, possibly with exhaustive detail in comparison with his pop songtress models of excellence.
She’s not bad looking from that photo.
I’m thinking of moving to Russia for a year or so to get the vaccine there. I don’t think Putin wants to genocide his own people. Meanwhile, here in the U.S. …. we’re clearly marked for extermination.
I don’t think the Russian vaccine is a never-proven mRNA product that will change people’s DNA. That’s reserved for whitey. Why do you think BLM has been villifying whitey. This is your life, whitey, and it’s all on the line.
Is that even possible? That’d have to be a virus aimed at the germline, but somehow edits the infected cells without killing it to replicate more virii?
No. So far they’re talking about the Astra-Zeneca vaccine and possibly another one developed in Australia which is still in the early stages of development.
In any case, I won’t be taking a vaccine if I can avoid it. But I suspect they will make life difficult if you don’t take it
AstraZeneca is British, so I don’t see why the US would be particularly inclined to promote it over their own, especially as the Trump administration is very much anti-foreign.
Americans, especially Trump supporters, will want an American vaccine preferably. I don’t think they see anything British as “less foreign” than from other countries. The British are very much foreigners as far as they’re concerned, they usually call us “Europeans”.
The key problem is, American vaccine exists exclusively in Trump’s inflamed imagination. He allowed some American companies to steal (officially use) serious federal money, but none of them has any record of developing a vaccine (or anything else useful, for that matter). As the US would never accept Russian vaccine, even if it ends up being the most efficient, US government morons won’t have much choice.
The only purpose for giving a vaccine to the healthy and young is to prevent spreading corona to the elderly and sick. Very charitable, but very one-sided.
What is in for the young? Why should they suffer and take a risk to protect others? Has this ever been done? This is lining up an ultimate young vs. boomers confrontation and it won’t be pretty. The boomers have the option of isolating themselves with their pyramid real estate and financial assets. But they should pay the young (a lot) if they want them to be vaccinated.
In a way, this is almost beautiful: the wealthy old trying to hold on to their accumulated assets (and life itself) by conning the young into one more scam. Charity, right. It works both ways.
IMHO Anatoly is at least tied for number one draw on this site. That is really saying something given the quality and the variety of viewpoints, knowledge, experience, anecdotes, policy proposals, historical observations, and “characters” among both columnists and commenters.
I don’t even have particular interest in the transhumanist stuff, or gaming, two of his favorite subjects, yet he’s still an uncommon combination of intellect, fairness, personality, humor, and wide-ranging interests.
Ok, AK, where’s that 10000 rubles you promised? 😉
In Tsarist Russia, AK does not pay you, you pay AK!
https://www.modernatx.com/modernas-work-potential-vaccine-against-covid-19
is the information incorrect here?
Russia has allowed clinical trials of a whole virion coronavirus vaccine developed by the Chumakov Federal Scientific Center. Clinical trials of a vaccine will begin soon in Kirov, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.
now Russia has three vaccines based on three different principles in the trials:
1) Gamaleya – based on modified human adenovirus (known benign virus with some SARS-CoV-2 genes added)
2) Vector – based on synthetic peptides (non-infectious particles carrying “signature” fragments of SARS-CoV-2)
3) And now also Chumakov – based on neutered virion of actual SARS-CoV-2
https://old.reddit.com/r/russia/comments/ixgppc/russia_has_allowed_clinical_trials_of_a_live/g671jtn/
Basically any woman who’s not obese looks decent with a mask on. I think that is why Asian women like wearing them.
But in modern world, property and childcare arrangements for younger generation adults appear to be more dependent on older generation than they ever have.
It’s going to happen more and more where seniors are manipulated by their unprincipled adult kids to move to a smaller home/care home with much of the profits from the sale of the big home going into funding the lifestyles of their adult kids and grandchildren
The same reason that many vaccines are universally administered – to reach herd immunity and stamp them out.
I don’t fancy having my life expectancy fall by several years if this coronavirus becomes seasonally recurring just to stick it to the boomers. https://www.unz.com/akarlin/corona-cost/
Look at your link: “modernas work potential vaccine against covid-19”.
To put it simply, you are a POTENTIAL husband of every woman in the world. But you can actually marry only one (unless you are a Muslim or Mormon polygamist, but even in that case you can marry relatively few). The difference between potential and real is huge.
Another simple question: what is Moderna’s record in developing vaccines, or anything else useful?
In addition to the three Russian vaccines, a Chinese vaccine is also approved for clinical trials in Russia.
Thank you for stepping in for Greasy’s absence. What’s your score out of 10 for her?
ChAdOx1 vaccines from Oxford University and AstraZeneca are also being tested in Russia.
https://pharmvestnik.ru/content/news/V-Rossii-nachalis-issledovaniya-oksfordskoi-vakciny-ot-COVID-19.html
Yep. Unlike some people we all know, Russian government is looking for an effective vaccine, not for scoring political points. That’s why it will have a vaccine to use, while the people we know are going to have what they always end up with: hot air and posturing. That would have been funny if it weren’t so sad.
The race for a viable vaccine does in a way resemble the space race between the West and the East, doesn’t it? And here we thought that all of this posturing was through when competent scientists like yourself decided to vote with your feet and moved to the US to live and work, rather than stay home and help Mother Russia continue to dominate. And now guys like you sit around and moan and groan about how bad things are here. Really contemptible. 🙁
7.5
I was not going to dignify the previous comment with a response, but you have provoked me with your absurd rating. She is clearly closer to the low end of the 6-7 range. She has relatively small breasts but also flabby arms, an unfortunate combination. You cannot judge her face well, but her eyebrows look bushy also.
Very unlikely with the early versions. More likely it will have limited effectiveness and at least some side effects. If it would be harmless and 100%, why not only vaccinate the elderly and sick?
My point was about a simple market logic: in the young vs. boomer equation, the young are significantly more likely to benefit from the elderly removed by corona from the market competition (assets, work, etc…) than from keeping them on life support.
Aren’t we in a market system? Don’t you quasi-libertarians believe that the invisible hand should guide it all? Well, this time it benefits us and you suddenly want an exception for ‘charity‘. Why now? That has never been a consideration for the boomers before. I say we let the market (‘corona’) decide. Or they can pay up…
“To date, the first component of the vaccine (it consists of two injections with a difference of 21 days. – Ed.) in the capital received about 2,500 people, – said the head of the development team of Sputnik V, academician Alexander Ginzburg”
https://www.spb.kp.ru/daily/217185/4291744/
So, you don’t find it contemptible that the US is the worst performing country in this epidemic? That the US is in company wuth India and Brazil among the three worst performing countries? That the US economy shrank by a whopping 32.9%?
https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/07/covid-19-coronavirus-usa-united-states-econamy-gdp-decline/
that the US in this race to the bottom is followed by the most subservient imperial lapdog, the UK, the economy of which shrank by 20.4%?
That no other country damaged its economy nearly as much of the US and UK?
I take it you also don’t find it contemptible that “democracy promoting” US fully supported Yeltsin in 1993? That’s the year Russians revolted against his regime’s thievery and betrayal and the parliament impeached him. Not being a legitimate president any more, hew ordered tanks to shoot at the parliament building, dissolved parliament, and cracked down hard on the protesters in Moscow, killing hundreds. The US applauded this unconstitutional coup and bloody mayhem.
You also don’t find it contemptible that scum from the “democratic” West, like Browder, actively participated in looting Russia, and that this particular scoundrel’s blatant lies served as the basis of “Magnitsky act” of the US Congress?
Some patriot.
As far as academic biomedical science goes, Russia never was in the lead. In fact, when I came to the US in 1991, ~90% papers in PubMed (the most comprehensive biomedical database) were from the US, with ~10% from the rest of the world. The US squandered this lead by siphoning ever increasing share of its resources to MIC thieves. Today the fraction of papers from the US in PubMed is barely 50%, and keeps going down.
Even 15 years ago when you edited a scientific paper (for those not in science: in a peer-reviewed scientific journals the editor finds and engages the reviewers and ensures that the review process proceeds in a timely manner), you could invite sufficient number of US-based reviewers (half of them weren’t US-born, but that’s a different story). Nowadays you cannot do that, as there are not enough qualified people in the US.
This country was great before, but it goes down fast under the “leadership” nonentities and morons. If it’s patriotic not to see that, I am the Pope.
If you’re never able to say anything good about the US, why stay here? Only to make a few more bucks? Russia is still the greatest country in the whole world, so why waste your time in Hillbilly country? You could get old living here, and then possibly croak and then what? Look at all of the time you’ve wasted living in such a bad (but good paying) place? Look at Karlin, he tried it for 10 years and then moved back home, and he seems to be happy as a lark….
Besides, by going to live in Russia, you’ll probably have access to a life saving vaccine much sooner than in the States.
Another day, another humiliation. Putin offered the UN free vaccine to distribute among needy countries. China offered the UN millions for its anti-covid efforts. What did Trump offer on behalf of the US? Same stupid tired accusations against China, even though all sequence-based covid evolution trees show that the virus did not originate in China. Nothing else. As a US citizen, I am ashamed. What’s more, I am ashamed to be a citizen of the country where some are not ashamed of this. Trump has an excuse: he is an ignorant moron. What’s your excuse?
Now , I have zero knowledge on these issues ,and I’m sure Trump is full of sh*t…….. but I did read a Russian scientist say that this disease originates in bats, and bats in China only live in the south of the country, (obviously a long distance from Wuhan) and if it did originate from these bats in the south of China then there would have been an outbreak in a food market there, which there was not.
This made him think that the only possible conclusion was that it was man-made, in Wuhan laboratory.
Any thoughts?
I hadn’t heard that AK is a libertarian.
I am not a virologist. First, I know that coronaviruses are among the most complicated ones, with many biochemical mechanisms we don’t really understand. So, they are as unlikely targets for weaponization as elephants are for the use as sniffing animals (even though they have twice as many odorant receptors as dogs). Even allowing for rather low levels of military intelligence, they would focus on lower hanging fruits. There are plenty of simpler viruses, much easier to manipulate. Second, considering extremely low mortality and the fact that 20-60% (depending who you believe) live through covid infection w/o slightest symptoms, this does not look like a weapon. So, if it was developed in a military lab, whoever ordered and executed this work should be fired for incompetence.
Bats have plenty of different coronaviruses, but they are not the only mammals having them. So, the provenance of this particular virus is murky. Besides, there are numerous reports of finding various related strains in European samples from patients taken in mid-2019. There is also a report that people immune to denge virus show immunity against covid.
AK has many a bio. Its like a kaleidoscope: look in and everyone sees a different Karlin look out at him.
I’ve got enough sense to not live in a country that I do not like. What about you, what’s your excuse for staying put?
Are you really this dumb, or just playacting? The US is not all BLM bandits and libtard cucks. The “deplorables” constitute at least half of the population. They are honest, hard-working people without mental disorders. They know for sure that there are two sexes (and many psychiatric disorders = LGBT) in humans, like in all animals and plants (except plants don’t have brains, and therefore are not subject to mental disorders). No person who genuinely likes America can avoid being disgusted by it degenerate elites and bought and paid for politicians and presstitutes serving them.
If your country is represented by libtard cities, like NY, SF, Seattle, Portland, or Minneapolis, I have bad news for you: they will be burnt to the ground by BLM and Antifa goons. Good riddance. The country would be better off w/o them. It would also be better off w/o “patriots” like you.
Unless you’ve buried yourself in the basement of your laboratory Professor, certainly you’ve noticed that BLM is well established and active throughout Tennessee? In your case, perhaps you haven’t noticed, not knowing that there are Nissan and Volkswagen automobile plants in your backyard? So, I’m doing you a service and including some photos of BLM in Tennessee. Maybe you should consider packing your luggage now, Professor?

Scraping the bottom? The pics you posted (from here https://www.newschannel5.com/news/photos-thousands-protest-in-nashville-black-lives-matter-rally#id2)
Are from June 4, more than three months ago.
The people of TN figured who is who since then. For the last three months neither BLM bandits nor libtard trash dared to show their ugly faces in the open in Nashville. That’s because the majority of TN residents, even in relatively more liberal Nashville, are sane and honest.
Try again.
Looks like there’s still some unrest in Tennessee as of 9/14. A protester was run over on that day in Johnson City. Things have thankfully cooled off a bit pretty much everywhere since June. But the atmosphere is still pretty tense and likely to flare up at anytime, especially as election day, November 1, nears.

Nothing like this going on in Russia, why don’t you move back?
He isn’t, although his recent economic views are typical Neoliberal scummery.
You do realize that my economic views don’t significantly differ from those of the people who run Russia?
Or was it the “Atlanticist fifth column” who forced Putler into raising the retirement age?
