The Case for Annexing Canada

I have long been of the opinion that the only real countries are the playable ones from the Civilization video game series (and DLCs don’t count!).

So I am liking Thorfinnsson’s sizzlingly powerful idea of Trump annexing Canada more and more.

The moral case:

They’re anti-American and constantly inventing dubious reasons as to why Canada is allegedly better than America, most of which relate to being even more pozzed than we are.

Prior to Lester Pearson (inventor of the current Canadian flag) and especially Pierre Trudeau (yes, Justin’s father, and founding father of Canadian multiculturalism) Canada had more of a British identity comparable to what still exists in Australia and New Zealand. Many of Canada’s early Anglo settlers in fact were Americans who supported the King and got deported as a result.

So Canada for instance had a tradition of “Northern” literature and film to compare with our “Westerns” which made the point that on the Canadian frontier, even in the Klondike country, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was in control and keeping the Queen’s peace–unlike America’s lawless Wild West. Canadians stressed, “Peace, Order, and Good Government” as opposed to America’s “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”.

Canada got dominion status in 1867, and that plus their enormous sacrifices in World War One became the basis of their own patriotism. Canadian troops were, along with Australians, considered the elite shock troops of the British Empire on the Western Front. Canada’s losses in WWI were in population terms about half of what Russia’s were as an example.

Now that’s all gone. The link to Britain was severed when Britain joined the Common Market, and the British identity buried by Trudeau’s multiculturalism. All that’s left is anti-Americanism and being pozzed SJW faggots. Canadians will seriously assert with a straight face that they love their country because of…healthcare.

The practical benefits:

The benefits are legion. Annexation of English Canada (Quebec should be an independent protectorate) include:

• Immediate addition of 20-million English-speaking whites to America
• USA becomes world’s largest country by land area (suck it Russia!)
• US oil production immediately increases by one-third
• Major increases in cereals, timber, steel, aluminum, electricity, etc. production
• US EEZ increases by 50% and overtakes France to become #1
• Major increase in Artic shoreline, and can turn the Northwest Passage into territorial waters (something Canada currently claims but America currently rejects)
• American exposure to Canadian medicine might de-pathologize the incredibly stupid healthcare debate in America
• Sets in motion the possibility of other Anglo settler countries joining America (Britain I assume is a bridge too far with its monarchism and presence in Europe)
• Most importantly, I will no longer have to fill out NAFTA certificates or explain to Canadians that no, they do not in fact require CSA approval

There are also major benefits for Canadians such as:

• Canadian per capita GDP would rapidly converge with America’s
• Talented Canadians would finally be able to escape the Canadian jail and join the big leagues instead of pretending like Bay Street is a big deal
• “Hate speech” laws immediately eliminated
• Target will return to Canada, and Canadians finally get Jet.com
• Cheaper postage
• No longer need to use stupid looking Canadian money
• Lower-cost investing options
• Cheaper goods in general
• The endless softwood lumber trade dispute finally ends
• Canadians gain the right to pack some serious firepower
• Americans know how to put the “First Nations” in their rightful place
• The new olympic hockey team will be more competitive, and in general the national team will be more competitive at the winter olympics

When I was in Romania, I casually asked a Canadian in our group what they would do if the Americans conquered them (the peaks of autism I go to for the sake of our community!). He said they’d be sullen about it, but would gradually accept their fate as Americans after a couple of generations – assuming the US manages to keep Canada for that long. I don’t know about you, but an n=1 sample is good enough for me, at least on this particular question. It seems to me that a 35 million increase in high-quality people, complete self-sufficiency in oil, and a doubling of territory (including many resources and access to the Arctic in a warming world) is worth a few acts of petty sabotage from a few overly “svidomy” Canadians.

The Great White North has suffered enough under Trudeau’s tyranny! Time for The Donald to show him who’s boss!!!

    • USA becomes world’s largest country by land area (suck it Russia!)

lol That won’t last long. I reckon annexing the Ukraine and Belarus will be a lot easier, than annexing Canada.

  2. I know, right? How long will we let this microaggression against us stand?

  3. Hyperborean says

What would a decent casus belli be?

  4. reiner Tor says

That sounds like science fiction for the moment.

I’m thinking of Hungary conquering Russia and a common border with Japan in the middle of Sakhalin island. All we need to do is building a super AI which will figure it out for us how to do that.

  5. reiner Tor says

A very strong country which randomly starts annexing weaker neighbors will make others nervous. Eventually you can get the rest of the planet united against you. Even the otherwise minuscule and somewhat understandable (based on history and the predisposition of the population) annexation of Crimea led to a Europe-wide hysteria against Russia. I don’t know what would happen if the US annexed its ally Canada, but it’d surely make everyone else nervous.

Now if everyone else is nervous, that could be bad for the US, because it’ll still not be big enough to fight (even a cold war) against a broad coalition of the rest of the world.

  6. reiner Tor says

Terrance and Phillip poisoning the innocent minds of American youth. And Celine Dion. And Justin Bieber.

  7. reiner Tor says

Thinking more of it, providing independence to Quebec would be a good idea. It’d make the annexation about pan-Anglo nationalism (instead of imperialism), and so would immediately limit the scope of future ambitions. It’d help cool nerves.

  8. reiner Tor says

    Also Bryan Adams.

Though the Canadian government has apologized for Bryan Adams on several occasions.

  9. Mitleser says

    They are already nervous.

it’ll still not be big enough to fight (even a cold war) against a broad coalition of the rest of the world

But what would they fight for?
North America would be busy with the absorption of the former Canadians.
Maybe they would even adopt a new flag.

  11. Mitleser says

    What Hungary?

Hungary will be a German protectorate once we are done with Austrians and Swiss.

  12. reiner Tor says

I would grant it independence and freedom to unite with France. Also tell France I wouldn’t be opposed to a French military action against it.

  13. reiner Tor says

Our super-AI will tell us how to resist that, too.

I think you could easily absorb Austria in a dangerous world (where size of the country matters a great deal), but Switzerland would be tough. They speak a practically different language, and have a very strong identity. They also don’t like Germans much. Though to be honest, they don’t really like anyone. Perhaps the Italians. They also held a cuck-fest over their Kosovar football players showing the hand-sign of the double-headed Albanian eagle. One of the Swiss players did this, too, “to show solidarity with the immigrants” (he apparently didn’t think of the Serb immigrants…), and then they all felt cuck-happy that they are so tolerant (unlike those nasty nationalistic Serbs, fuck them).

Anyway, Switzerland is difficult to conquer. The Swiss already have a very different identity and language.

  15. Mitleser says

Swiss German is just another German dialect.

And it is not like that Germans do like Germans much either.

How would Swiss defend against the German horde who wants their country to be like Switzerland?

  16. Thirty million new Democratic voters, 12 new blue states, permanent Democratic majority. Sounds great.
I am curious why the Democrats do not see it and do not push for “North American integration”.

In any case, President-for-Life Thorfinnsson will have presumably finished rigging the system to ensure a permanent Republican supermajority by the time he orders the troops into Canada.

  22. Anonymous says

Informally, a lot of the practical benefits listed above already exist. In terms of geopolitics, Canada is already a part of the US and generally follows US foreign policy. NORAD provides air sovereignty for North America. Etc. There are token disputes and differences, but they’re relatively trivial. There’s no point to annex Canada. It’s already part of the American Empire for all intents and purposes.

  23. Stan d Mute says

All I want to know is why this post is categorized under “humor” while thorfinnson’s bit about Tesla was under “economics”. Seems that should be vice-versa..

  24. It’s more likely that Canada is re-annexed by Britain.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CANZUK

Then America can effectively annex the entire Anglosphere. Post-Brexit, all kinds of scenarios are possible.

As for Quebec, maybe they’re better off inside the tent. Quebec City is the whitest and most based city in North America. Bonhomme belongs to us.

  25. Yankee doodles have nothing to do with pan-Anglo nationalism

  26. Mitleser says

It’s more likely that Canada is re-annexed by Britain.

Canada was never a part of Britain, only the British Empire.

Canada joining UK would be no re-annexation.

  27. reiner Tor says

I don’t think the rest of the world cares for those minor internal squabbles. You can wish Happy Treason Day to all those American rebels.

  28. The Canadian voters would swing the Democrats to the left and there would be enough of them to make sure the American government would be well to the left of where it is. They would open the doors to more immigration, so de facto you would be annexing Mexico also.

In essence, it would be like England annexing another Scotland.

  29. A better solution would be for Canada to annex the US

  30. That is really a flag for Britain + Ireland + Canada (which is good)

  31. Daniel Chieh says

Its illegal for a woman to take her husband’s last name in Quebec. Quebec hasn’t been “based” since the Quiet Revolution.

  32. SimplePseudonymicHandle says

    All for.

Though a better idea would be to create a Common Market.

It’s a better idea because it would re-teach people what Common Markets are, and re-educate people that there is a happy in-between the extremes of protectionism and free trade – both of which are one or another way to screw over giant classes of people.

Common Markets mean the Canadian passport is good for a job in US territory, and vice-versa, that capital flows as freely between Oklahoma and Alberta as between Minnesota and Illinois, but both local and national governments remain autonomous and currency usually remains separate.

A corollary benefit is they have educational value of demonstrating that “free trade” is a specific kind of raw deal that privileges people whose capital is internationalized … and that’s not 99.9% of people, so it’s a raw deal especially compared to a Common Market.

My intuition is that if a Common Market looked likely, the 0.01% would move for annexation or full integration because that educational benefit is a benefit they can’t tolerate. They need you to believe there are only two – bad – alternatives.

  33. The Big Red Scary says

    Can he take his?

  34. You’d be surprised. There’s a major backlash coming against immigration and multiculturalism in Quebec, especially in the Quebec City area.

Québec City is a breeding ground for far-right groups in Québec, possibly because of the existence of a network of very popular trash radio stations. Whatever the reason, the most reactionary ideologies are more likely to find an echo in Québec City than in the rest of the province.

It is in this area that greatest number of far-right groups can be found — groups like La Meute (which is also active in other places), the Storm Alliance, Atalante, and the Fédération des Québécois de Souche (federation of old-stock Québecers). Since the Storm Alliance is similar to La Meute, I will focus on the other two groups.

Atalante is without a doubt one of the most extremist groups in Canada. It essentially consists of a few dozen neofascist boneheads (especially those close to the famous Québec neo-Nazi group, the Stompers).

The members of Atalante garnered attention this past year by organizing torch-lit marches through the streets of Québec City, distributing food to the homeless, cleaning historic monuments, and holding a mass in honour of Jeanne d’Arc on the Plains of Abraham, among other things.

    https://canadiandimension.com/articles/view/a-look-at-far-right-groups-in-quebec

The general public in the Quebec City area may not be “conservatives” in the Anglo-American sense, but they are definitely nationalists and identitarians. In other words, BASED, as opposed to the WOKE cosmopolitan libfags in Montreal.

  35. Daniel Chieh says

There’s no law preventing it, so probably yes.

  36. The Big Red Scary says

    Or she hers?

  37. I haven’t read this nonsense so I do not know where the Thor-thing is coming from but I knew some Americans in the Midwest who did not understand why Canadians did not vote for joining the US yet in a genuine belief that this is what everybody in the world would do because America was so the greatest. So, to convince them that Canadians must be liberated form their oppressive regime which does not allow them to vote to join the US would not be that difficult, I think.

  38. It would be cool if could just peacefully elect Viktor Orban to permanent position as Emperor of All Russia.

  39. Daniel Chieh says

66.4: percentage of Canadians who approve of same-sex marriage, according to a 2012 Forum Research poll. The highest approval rating is Quebec’s (72%), while the lowest approval rating comes from Alberta (45.6%). Compare this with 49% of Americans, according to the most recent Pew Research poll, with 44% opposed.

    http://bayobserver.ca/canadian-same-sex-marriage-by-the-numbers/

    …yeah.

My wife is French-Canadian so I have some familiarity with Quebec; she traces her ancestry to one of the filles du roi sent to New France prior to their defeat in the Seven Years’ War.

While there remains French nationalism of some sort, its pretty much pitiful and at any rate, if they wanted to avoid the pozzing, independence would almost certainly be better off. However, this is not likely to happen as Quebec lacks the capability of surviving independently anymore; the major efforts at nationalism(which was very strong, and government policy) pre-Quiet Revolution showed the weakness of it: it could not stem flight of population even with actual violence being utilized. Since then, population TFR numbers have since crashed and millions of dollars in incentives were unable to reverse it. A serious nationalist group would try to learn from the mistakes from before and not be completely dependent on their enemies.

But, well, its pretty much LARPing at this point. The “far-right” groups more or less exist as modern-day witches so new witch-hunts can exist to further destroy the idea of any dissent.

    Canada should just be conquered.

  40. At least for me, the main benefit of the annexation of Canada in Thorfinssen’s second-term will be that it can finally allow Glenn Gould to be recognized as a “great American pianist”, and a construction can therefore begin of his statue in Thorfinssen’s “Boulevard of American Heroes” outside Washington D.C, to be located in an honoured place next to the statue of Tupac that Thorfinssen will commission in his first-term (the construction of this latter statue being obviously considered by most political analysts “one of the main achievements of the Thorfinssen first-term”).

  41. Hyperborean says

    Tupac

Dmitry, have you been listening to Surkov?

  42. Most interesting to me are the divisions within Quebec. The CAQ are a new party, centre-right and soft nationalist. The key plank in their platform is reducing immigration by 20%. Here’s how they poll in the different regions of Quebec, which has 4 main parties.

    Montreal Island: 21%
    Off Island Suburbs: 42%
    Non-Metropolitan Quebec: 44%
    Quebec City Area: 59%

It’s pretty rare, maybe non-existent, to find an urban area considerably more “conservative” than its rural hinterland. In Quebec they call it le mystère de Québec, meaning the city. It’s a relatively new phenomenon that no one has yet adequately explained the reasons for, hence the mystery.

  43. It’s true Surkov is a reportedly a Tupac fan – a passion which unites and designates all civilized men. But he’s also a fan of shit rappers like Oxxxymiron so I’m not we can describe him as a connoisseur. Surkov has been for years trying to support the local rap community, and probably the result of such a task is that you have to lower your standards.

  44. Eventually you can get the rest of the planet united against you.

Like we could give a f****

  45. We tried to annex Canada a couple of times and it didn’t go well. Maybe that means something.

  46. Immediate addition of 20-million English-speaking whites to America

These whites also tend to be ultra extreme leftists that are hell bent on inviting in as many non whites as they possibly can.

  47. Québécois identity in rural areas is secure and not threatened while the battle must take place in urban areas French speaking people are under pressure from the immigrants and what is even worse people form Ontario. Neither of these two groups wants to immerse itself in the Francophone culture.

  51. As a Canadian, in my mind the only downside to annexation by America would be the surge in Blacks and Hispanics into any annexed territory.

Western Canada (Manitoba and west) is considerably more socially conservative than the rest of the country and has been alienated from the rest of the country for decades. Alberta has contributed disproportionately to the finances of the the country due to the redistribution, via “equalization”, to have-not provinces of the tax windfall that the federal government receives from Alberta’s high incomes (the highest in Canada).

Quebec has been a net beneficiary of equalization payments for decades and uses the prospect of a referendum and “sovereignty” as blackmail to ensure that it continues to put less into the country than the country pays out. Further, the Quebecois are the closest thing to a genuine people in North America (unity of ancestry, language, culture/religion, etc.) and definitely would not want to be part of the US (they see Anglo Canada as the vector of creeping Americanization and the English language as only suitable for ghettos).

Accordingly, if annexation were to occur, it should just be Western Canada that is incorporated (and Vancouver purged of its bugmen); Quebec can go its own way; and the GloboHomo core (Ontario) and its permanent dependencies (the Maritimes) can continue their “post-national” experiment of cohesion through Tim Hortons and hockey.

  52. TheJester says

In the early 1970s, I was one of two USAF officers stationed at a Canadian military site slightly below the Arctic Circle. Some interesting nighttime conversation in the makeshift bar. This was the era that can perhaps be described as a high point in the movement for Quebec’s independence.

The Canadian enlisted troops were very vocal about being pro-American; most were from the Atlantic Provinces. The enlisted men had been raised on a steady diet of Hollywood movies and US TV. California was the place they planned to vacation whenever they had the chance. The enlisted men assumed Canada would dissolve on the tail of Quebec’s independence. In this devolution, their expectations — their hopes — were that the Western Provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan) and the Atlantic Provinces (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador) would immediately petition for US statehood.

The Canadian officers, on the other hand, were rabidly anti-American. They had been raised on a diet of anti-Americanism and Canadian nationalism in Canadian universities and the Canadian officer corps. They were humiliated by the very idea that two American officers were assigned to a Canadian site and chartered to operate independently of the Canadian site commander. We had a separate chain-of-command going directly to USAF officers assigned to the Program Office in the United States.

The United States picked up the tabs for our site and numerous other sites strewn across the Canadian Arctic. Our job was to monitor the performance of the US contractors providing logistical and technical support across the Canadian Arctic, which included the operations and maintenance of a large number of runways and terminals that the Canadians were using to “open” the Canadian Arctic. By agreement, the contracts were staffed by Canadians.

The largesse from US taxpayers included paying over-the-edge salaries to the Canadian civilians. They were paid $4,000 a month … that’s $243,000 a year in current-year-money as calculated on the USG CPI online calculator.

    https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

A few more statistics from the time.

    a. A few US Air National Guard units in the Atlantic states had more interceptor aircraft than the Canadian Air Force.

    b. New York City had more cops than Canada had soldiers in the Canadian armed forces.

    c. 90% of Canada’s population lived within 10 miles of the US border.

Conclusions: It is hard for me to visualize Canada as an independent nation. They were and still are massively subsidized by the US Government and the US economy. Canada could not exist without that largesse. As with West Germany and Japan, uneven trade treaties have camouflaged most of those subsidies over the ages.

Trump wants to bring the troops home. This includes ending the massive and now politically irrelevant subsidies to Germany, Japan, and other countries that were historically “bought off” and kept in line as allies during the Cold War.

P.S. I have no idea how the new Nunavut Province for Canada’s “First Nations” would take the dissolution of Canada. I suspect that their sentiments would be governed by spreadsheets. Amerindians in the United States already have free medical care. Could casinos survive as part of a credible business model for the northern far reaches of the North American continent?

  53. Not Raul says

The only reasonable scenario I see for the US conquering Canada is if the world were already united against the US, and the US needed something from Canada that Canada refused to sell them, and that couldn’t be purchased through a third party and/or intermediary.

  54. Mr. Hack says

Why stop with the US annexing Canada? Using your same logic Karlin, why not have the US annex the whole world and the benefits would multiply even further afield. Russia is basically a basket case economy (compared to Western models), not soon to catch up to US standards, it certainly would benefit even more than Canada from such an arrangement. Ukraine’s already trying to move out of the ‘Russian world’ and join the West, maybe its time that Russia do the same?

  55. Western Canada (Manitoba and west) is considerably more socially conservative than the rest of the country and has been alienated from the rest of the country for decades. Peace.

  65. Felix Keverich says

US dismembered Yugoslavia, invaded and destroyed a bunch of countries in the Middle East, all in illegal wars of agression – so why didn’t the world turn against the US by now??

Let’s face it “the world” is bunch of whimps. Most European countries, including Hungary as well, have no capacity for independent foreign policy. They are only barking at Russia because they are being corralled by USA.

  66. David JW says

Why do you assume the British wouldn’t want to join? The monarchy is an irrelevance, as it is too invested in multiracialism. The problem with an Anglo-Saxon union (America, Canada, Britain, maybe Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) is the large ethnic populations these countries have foolishly taken on.

  67. Felix Keverich says

Canadian voters are overwhelmingly white, right? Once they are assimilated into the American system, they will be voting Republican like most white Americans do.

The solution would be to implement a long transitional period, giving enough time for the process of assimilation to complete, at the end of which Canadians will gain voting rights.

I favor a similar strategy for the Ukraine: occupy the country, drive Galicians into Poland right away, then spend a few decades weeding out svidomist ideology – should be fairly easy to do in the Southern and Eastern parts of the Ukraine. Once this is done, cleaned parts of the Ukraine can be safely annexed to Russia.

  73. America tried to take over Canada twice and failed.

  74. Canadian voters are overwhelmingly white, right? Once they are assimilated into the American system, they will be voting Republican like most white Americans do.

They will be voting like northern whites do – for Democrats. Trump’s worst result was in the state of Vermont, one of the whitest states in America, on the Canadian border.

Canada’s “centrist” liberals are like left-wing Democrats, their “conservatives” are like moderate Bill Clinton-era democrats, and they have a large socialist party, too. It’s sort of the mirror version of Poland, where everybody can be considered a different shade of Republican.

The solution would be to implement a long transitional period, giving enough time for the process of assimilation to complete, at the end of which Canadians will gain voting rights

They would immediately assimilate to the Democratic party, shift it to the left, and provide enough votes for it to always win. Most American Democrats wouldn’t mind at all because they’d be winning all the time thanks to those millions of additional voters.

So you would have to ban the Democratic party and make it illegal for northern whites to vote prior to the Canadian invasion. Otherwise they would make sure Canadians would participate. This would mean the South, Rocky Mountains and parts of the Midwest winning a civil war, occupying half the country, and then invading and occupying Canada too and keeping it all occupied.

About as realistic as your plans for Ukraine.

I favor a similar strategy for the Ukraine: occupy the country, drive Galicians into Poland right away, then spend a few decades weeding out svidomist ideology

Both Russian Empire and Soviet superpower failed, rump state of Russia will succeed. Good luck 🙂

Regarding plastic surgery. I have never been aware of, nor gave any thought to Melania Trump’s plastic surgeries. But here after seeing her pictures from age 16 in Slovenia, I cannot but notice that she must have had some.

And I think they didn’t help her. Her original eyes would look better with crow’s feet than the eyes she has now. There was nothing wrong with her original nose (though perhaps there’s nothing wrong with what she has now either). I fail to see how anything was improved on her. Admittedly, it’s difficult to imagine her original face at age 47, but overall, she looks a bit creepy right now. She didn’t look creepy when young. I don’t think she’d look creepy if she got older with her original face.

    reiner Tor:

I agree. For example, Melania’s current quasi-asiatic eyes were definitely not part of the original architecture.

  80. Felix Keverich says

You are completely dismissing the effect of assimilation. It is unlikely that the next generation of Canadians will retain their parents political preferences because annexation by the US will create a new reality in Canada. It will produce a bigger and a more racially-diverse society, and as usual in racially-diverse societies its politics will be divided by race. Instead of the division between Americans and Canadians, white-brown division will dominate.

Both Russian Empire and Soviet superpower failed, rump state of Russia will succeed. Good luck 🙂

I know that in Ukrainian nationalist mythology communists were somehow “oppressing” the Ukraine. In reality, however, communists created Ukrainian state in its current international borders, and spent decades fostering Ukrainian national identity, with some success. My plan is to work in opposite way.

You won’t be so smug, once your Galician buddies find themselves in Polish refugee camps. 🙂

  81. [Canadians will seriously assert with a straight face that they love their country because of…healthcare.]

Bongsters themselves say the same thing even more seriously.

  82. The problem with an Anglo-Saxon union (America, Canada, Britain, maybe Ireland, Australia and New Zealand)

I’m hoping Australia gets annexed by China before that happens. No offence to Americans but I’d rather be ruled by grown-ups.

  83. If people are talking about hypotheticals, how about creating a new article on the dismantling of the USA? My personal preference is to break it up in as small bits as possible, others would prefer say 4 or 5 parts (with the CSA being one of them). On a breakup one must also ask the question what should be done with Washington, my preference here is to reduce it to rubble and make sure it will never have people living there ever again, kind of like the Romans did to Carthage.

  84. Mitleser says

They didn’t annex those areas, though.

In the era of neocolonialism, that is not necessarily a good thing.
If they had annexed them, it would have forced them to take more responsibility.

And that policy has already resulted in a Russia-China alliance.

    Did it?

  85. Guillaume Tell says

The main problem in the case of a break-up of the USA would be the same as what the case when the USSR disappeared: who gets to keep the nukes?

In retrospect it’s a miracle what happened back then when the end of the USSR did not immediately translate into a major case of proliferation. Picture yourself with a nuclear-armed Uzbekistan.

In the case of the USA the strategic land-based nukes are in solid red areas. That is not true however for the research facilities which are all in blue counties.

  86. Guillaume Tell says

Speaking of Thorfinnsson’s plans, he seems to have taken some vacation from UNZblog.

  87. The best case scenario would be to have the nuclear weapons dismantled, if not then have the CSA take them over, the worst case scenario would be having the extreme left wing regimes of California or New York getting them.

  88. Alliumnsk says

Total area of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine is still smaller than total area of USA and Canada.

  92. Mitleser says

The main problem in the case of a break-up of the USA would be the same as what the case when the USSR disappeared: who gets to keep the nukes?

  93. Felix Keverich says

Did you go to Wikipedia to look this up? Wow, Autism is strong with this one!

  94. While annexing Canada, the USA should also jettison California. This would cancel out the addition of all those liberal Canadian voters, while making the expanded USA even more white.

  95. But I do appreciate these little peeks inside of your real thinking, something that you’re usually too guarded to reveal.

What “real thinking” do you think you see that he has not revealed?

  96. anonymous coward says

Both Russian Empire and Soviet superpower failed, rump state of Russia will succeed. Good luck 🙂

    Failed at what, exactly?

Galicia was annexed to USSR after WWII by Stalin. Let it go and the Ukraine problem dissolves automatically in five years. The individual regions of the so-called “Ukraine” will rush to join Russia as federal subjects. The problem will be how to slow this process down and not tax the Russian economy too much, not convincing “Ukrainians” to leave “Ukraine”.

(You yourself is a stunning example of hypocrisy. Why aren’t you in Lviv right now, huh?)

  97. anonymous coward says

    Did it?

It did. USSR and China were enemies during the Cold War. In fact, USSR was closer to USA than to China. E.g., we fought a hot war with China, and Chinese products were banned. In contrast, we had cooperation with the USA, and American products were available.

Today it’s a 180 degree turnabout. E.g., you’ll see Mandarin signs on any Russian tourist attraction but not English. Russia exports food to China, we have a visa-free regime, etc.

  98. anonymous coward says

In retrospect it’s a miracle what happened back then when the end of the USSR did not immediately translate into a major case of proliferation.

No, of course it wasn’t a “miracle”. You misunderstand the breakup of the USSR. It was a very calculated and controlled decision by the RSFSR leadership to ditch the ‘ethnics’. Every move was planned in advance and carefully executed.

(The clusterfuck was a few years later, after 1993, when what was the relatively strong USSR economy spectacularly imploded due to closed borders and the ‘ethnics’ mismanaging their economies.)

  99. Hyperborean says

East California is fine, it is the West and South regions that are the biggest part of the problem.

But this discussion is only relevant if we assume that the USA would have competitive elections.

I think if America had the urge to annex Canada either a authoritarian regime would be in place or the atmosphere in America would so jingoistic that any liberal would be afraid to make their presence known for fear of being purged.

America made a huge error drawing the Mexican border where it did. Rivers make bad borders. It should have made the border The Rio Grande river basin border and taken the Lower Californian peninsula and all the river draining into it. This is a much cleaner border which also gives America great real estate as Steve Sailer always alludes to.

Personally I think they should have gone whole hog and taken the whole damn country. Mexico had a population of only 8 million back then. American modernisation would have led to a fertility moderation which would probably mean that Gross-America would have no more Mexicans than the 50 states has today anyway.

Canada is wasted on Canadians and Mexico is wasted on Mexicans. Add them to the US and you have a hyper-power that would dominate the world permanently. Face it the neoliberalism.txt is right about this one.

And no this wouldn’t lead to white genocide as morons like to say. America would become like Brazil with a better class of person all round. I mean, come on! who the hell else is going to dominate the country!

  106. Irishman says

“The Rio Grande river basin border and taken the Lower Californian peninsula and all the river draining into it.”
Correction. All the rivers draining into the Gulf of California

  107. anonymous coward says

Yes. Gays spread disease and molest children. There’s a reason why every human society punished gays, even hardcore atheist ones like the USSR.

  108. Authenticjazzman says

I would think that recognizing the great canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, creative artist non-plus -ultra, would be of a much higher order than honoring the note-reader Glenn Gould.

even further conflict including annexation of all of Ukraine. I’m surprised that AP, our eternal fighter for Ukrainian sovereignty, seems to ignore this callous statement giving it a green light:

I reckon annexing the Ukraine and Belarus will be a lot easier, than annexing Canada.

Karlin: I know, right? How long will we let this microaggression against us stand?

  112. You are completely dismissing the effect of assimilation. It is unlikely that the next generation of Canadians will retain their parents political preferences because annexation by the US will create a new reality in Canada.

Northern American whites have been in the USA for over 200 years. Vermont is a very old state. They are not Republicans.

It will produce a bigger and a more racially-diverse society, and as usual in racially-diverse societies its politics will be divided by race.

Most racially diverse part of Canada is British Columbia. It is the most Leftist, too.

I know that in Ukrainian nationalist mythology communists were somehow “oppressing” the Ukraine. In reality, however, communists created Ukrainian state in its current international borders, and spent decades fostering Ukrainian national identity, with some success.

Russian nationalist mythology. Current borders are mostly based on UNR territory which proceeded Bolshevism and was based on pre-Bolshevik guberniyas that had voted for Ukrainian nationalist parties (so the tsars failed to assimilate Ukrainians, most of whom voted for nationalist parties).

First Bolshevik rulers tried to harshly assimilate Ukrainians. They were thrown out. So the next strategy was to assimilate softly. This, too, failed, as was evident in 1990.

You won’t be so smug, once your Galician buddies find themselves in Polish refugee camps

There are about 4 million Galicians. Volhynians are about as nationalistic (these are the ones whose grandfathers slaughtered the Poles the most) – another 3 million or so of those.

The Soviet Union at the height of its power could only ethically cleanse small peoples like Crimean Tatars and Chechens – it could not expel all the Latvians, for example, and there are far fewer of those than there are Galicians, or Galicians plus Volhynians. Even East Prussia had only about 2.2 million people when it was evacuated – 3 times fewer than Galicia plus Volhynia.

But rump state Russia will manage such a feat in your world.

  113. He was being sarcastic.

  114. So, in addition to being cowardly, Canadian armchair UPA are also humorless. Hopefully the US occupation govt will deport them all to the motherland, Freeland et al can put their money where their mouths are.

  115. Mr. Hack says

Why do you think so? He’s not exhibited much respect for Ukrainian statehood or sovereignty in the past, and still remains an adept of the Triune theory where the Ukrainian nation is but a subset of the overall Russian one. No, I don’t think that it was a sarcastic statement at all, and feel that you’re cutting him some slack that he doesn’t deserve.

  116. Both Russian Empire and Soviet superpower failed, rump state of Russia will succeed. Good luck 🙂

    Failed at what, exactly?

In 1917 ~70% of voters in Kiev, Poltava, Volhynia, and Podolia guberniyas voted for Ukrainian nationalist parties. It was around 50% in so-called “New Russia” (not including Crimea and the city of Odessa). There were no military units or famous ethnic Ukrainians/Little Russians individuals from these regions who were Russian patriots (Whites) during the Russian Civil War. So tsarism failed to assimilate the Little Russians after centuries. But you think, after Ukrainian identity has become even stronger, 21st century Russia can 🙂

The individual regions of the so-called “Ukraine” will rush to join Russia as federal subjects.

Was there once a pop song called “The King of Wishful Thinking?” LOL, here it is:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBZUz4C6kqk

(You yourself is a stunning example of hypocrisy. Why aren’t you in Lviv right now, huh?)

I’m two generations removed and when I was 20 the USSR had recently ended and the place was a mess as a result of Sovok monkey mis-rule. And with my profession, salaries in Eastern Europe are very low. I could have moved to Moscow (had a job arranged for me, have a flat in the center to live in), but even in that city for the reason of salaries I did not.

But my cousin moved back to Lviv from Toronto after getting her Canadian passport, another moved back from Russia to Lviv, and another from Kiev. It’s a great place.

  117. It was clearly a joke.

  118. So, in addition to being cowardly, Canadian armchair UPA are also humorless.

Why cowardly? A few of them, generations removed, have fought for Ukraine. One of them, a nephew of some Banderist leader, was killed in Ilovaisk. He was a rich investment banker who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Quite a few have been in the Canadian or US militaries.

  119. Mr. Hack says

WTH are you talking about? UPA? US occupation govt? deportations? Looks like you had a rough night out, go back to sleep. 🙂

  120. This is the smartest comment on this topic that has been made here.

Crimea, Bukhovina, Galicia, Izmail region, and so forth would likely not have been part of an independent Ukraine in 1990 without the USSR’s help.

Most racially diverse part of Canada is British Columbia. It is the most Leftist, too.

Third world immigrants are actually put off by how gay the liberals are, whites are most loyal to them. But with time, these immigrants will become pozzed themselves, e.g. Jeet Heer https://twitter.com/OliverCooper/status/1005046256534720513

  122. Thanks, I didn’t know about him, how many left Canada to fight in the Donbass? As vocal as they are, I’d expect them to be eager for the chance to do so.

  123. They tend to be radical leftists that support anti white liberal positions. While I don’t think that homosexuality should be the biggest concern, they make for natural allies to the international jew and their lackeys. Things like gay pride parades have taken on a reverence that religion once had, I am not religious myself but having gay culture as the new religion of modern society is clearly not a good idea.

  124. Amelia Earhart becomes a warlord?

  125. Mr. Hack says

Was this statement of his, also a ‘joke’:

    1. As a Russian nationalist, I remain unwaveringly committed to the idea of the triune Russian nation, just like Ivan Ilyin and Alexander Solzhenitsyn. There will come a day when the dismemberment of the Russian nation [the formation and existence of the Ukrainain nation] will be but a bad memory in the Russian historical consciousness. This will almost certainly not happen under the current occupants of the Kremlin. But happen it will, or Russia will cease to exist as a civilizational entity.

It seems to totally corroborate his, in your opinion, sarcastic statement.

  126. I don’t think a huge number. It is a continent away. I know a Jewish guy from the USA who volunteered to fight in the IDF, but that’s rare too. A few Croats born in the USA “fought” for Croatia, but most – such as Nirvana’s bass player – went over and spent the war hanging out in bars in Zagreb. Potential for help is maximized by lobbying work by those over here. Freeland is Canada’s foreign minister. A diaspora Ukrainian, Paula Dobriansky, was short-listed for Secretary of State, losing out to Tillerson.

She still has a role to play:

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-25/trump-is-said-to-pick-dobriansky-for-senior-state-department-job

  127. To dissect his comment, he doesn’t really believe in microaggressions, thus the joke.

  128. Crimea, Bukhovina, Galicia, Izmail region, and so forth would likely not have been part of an independent Ukraine in 1990 without the USSR’s help.

    Correct.

  129. Mitleser says

A better fate than disappearing somewhere in the Pacific region.

  130. Mr. Hack says

So, his distaste for microaggressions in favor apparently of macroaggressions, is acceptable? For as his above quoted statement reveals, he is urgently awaiting the day that the Ukrainians disappear into the dustbin of history to once again reappear as Little Russians? A ‘bad memory, as he puts it. So, AP, it look like your ‘friend’ really sees your adherence to a Ukrainian ethnic identity as a ‘bad memory’. 🙂

  131. Daniel Chieh says

Gays have divergent interests from normal families, and ultimately promote policies hostile to family formation. In the US, they skew liberal at 63% as of 2014. Like Mr. Karlin, I don’t really care that much about gays per se, but as a political bloc, they are consistently harmful and indeed consistently form nepotistic “clannish” power groups with other homosexuals to the detriment of just about everyone else.

“In the closet” or not generally promoted, they produce excellent art and thought: Mishima, Donovan, and even probably BAP, for example, simply on right-wing thought. Its one of those things which is quite fine in very small doses, but not beyond that.

  132. They should get Mike Ditka involved, he still has a lot of cache in the Midwest. I assumed his name was Polish, Czech or Slovak, but apparently he’s Rusyn. Anyway, I’m not sure if it was the work of the diaspora or just Kiev, but they did persuade Trump in a very short period of time to reverse longstanding US policy https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/05/ukraines-successful-courtship-of-trump/559526/

  133. I agree with you.

He has made it clear that he believes that The Ukraine is an integral part of Greater Russia and the Ukrainian nationalism espoused by you and AP is a rebellion.

    Stan de Mute,

Thank you. I think you are right that 90% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles rather than 10 miles from the border. I did my original research decades ago, tried to reaffirm through Internet research before I posted, but could not find a reference. But even if wrong, the implication is the same.

Three years ago, my wife and I drove through Winnipeg and the wastes of Manitoba to go fishing near Flin Flon. Civilization, including the Internet and mobile phone services, disappeared a few miles north of Winnipeg. (Yes, we had purchased roaming to use our smartphones in Canada.)

We found out how the locals lived when we could find them. They use “Internet cafes”. McDonalds’s was a popular place as well as higher-class restaurants. Before making reservations we always asked, “Do you have Internet?” … apparently a necessity as part of the business model for anything north of Winnipeg. One could send and receive texts from the “fishing resort/cabins”. However, that involved taking your car down the road and parking it on top of a hill. Periodic “hilltop check-ins” became part of our daily routine.

The co-owner of the small “fishing resort/cabins” where we stayed had a few interesting comments. They and many of their neighbors had homes in Winnipeg. That’s where they lived outside of fishing season. They also rented “boxes” south of the border where they picked up their Amazon and other online orders.

  136. Mr. Hack says

You’ve correctly summed up his point of view, however, it’s an archaic and problematic point of view based on outdated false premises.

Even East Prussia had only about 2.2 million people when it was evacuated – 3 times fewer than Galicia plus Volhynia.

But rump state Russia will manage such a feat in your world.

This is an incredibly stupid thing for you to say. A total of 12 million German civilians were expelled by the Soviet army at the end of WW2. You just need to accept that Galicia was handled with velvet gloves by the communist regime.

And it doesn’t even need to be an organised expulsion: in a modern society a disruption of electricity, water supply in the cities will send people fleeing.

  139. ” Many of Canada’s early Anglo settlers in fact were Americans who supported the King and got deported as a result.”

I think that most Canadians will tell you that they moved north to escape the American Revolution.

Canada also uses the metric system. Somebody has to make a big switch.

Western Canada is still pretty conservative…Putin and the Russian state should have noticed that.

America is slowly becoming a multicultural sewer…only those abroad with a most morbid sense of curiosity would care to have a look.

  140. Poroshenko banned the use of Ukrainian-made mortars ‘Molot’ after the latest incident, that caused 12 casualties during training exercise.

    https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/4299280.html

This is just one example of how Ukrainian arms industry is failing at designing and manufacturing even the simplest of weapons.

    More detailed info here:

    https://korrespondent.net/ukraine/events/3987250-razryv-mynometa-chto-yzvestno-o-problemakh-molota

“Ban” is actually temporary (for now) moratorium until they determine what the cause was, human error or defective mortars.

It seems Russians also have trouble with their mortars:

    https://defence-blog.com/army/mortar-explosion-injured-2-russian-soldiers-exercises-north-ossetia.html

And look: seven American marines killed by a mortar explosion during a training exercise:

    https://abcnews.go.com/US/marines-killed-training-exercise-identified/story?id=18769398

A total of 12 million German civilians were expelled by the Soviet army at the end of WW2

It was a combination of local German government urging them to flee because of the idea that they will all be slaughtered, raped or whatever, and efforts not only of the USSR but of Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc. with total population something like twice Russia’s.

You think the Russia alone will manage such a feat with not many fewer people 🙂

You just need to accept that Galicia was handled with velvet gloves by the communist regime.

    100,000s deported/murdered.

And it doesn’t even need to be an organised expulsion: in a modern society a disruption of electricity, water supply in the cities will send people fleeing.

You mean bomb the water supplies, prevent water from getting in? Cut off electric power and set up military units to prevent restoration? Maybe the next step – a siege where people are denied food? That will convince them to leave.

Why don’t you take your next step and call for nuking the region?

Always good to see what Russia has, in case Ukrainians think it might be a good idea to have some sort of union with Russia. A Felix Keverich is not in power now, but he may be one day. This has been the historical pattern. No matter how nicely it begins, partnership ends in enslaved or millions-dead Ukrainians. Russia is a great country, but best for Ukraine not to be linked to it politically.

  141. Felix Keverich says

But this is the nature of modern Ukrainian nationalism: AP‘s Ukrainian identity is so very strong, that nobody can force him to actually live in the Ukraine.

And yet, AP wants us to think that millions of people like him will stay to fight the Russian occupation.

  142. Many of us have archaic and problematic points of view. Whether the premises will ultimately be proven false is yet to be conclusively determined.

And yet, AP wants us to think that millions of people like him will stay to fight the Russian occupation.

You are going to persist in this silliness, wouldn’t you?

There was no “Poland” in the immediate aftermath of WW2. It was a puppet regime, set up by the occupying Soviet army. Entire Eastern Europe was a Soviet occupation zone, and it was Soviet Union that handled population transfers and deportations.

Why don’t you take your next step and call for nuking the region?

Nukes wouldn’t be necessary. But I’m describing a rather realistic scenario. The cities can be emptied of most of their population even before they are captured. Destroying key infrastructure will cause civilian panic and a mass exodus. If you think this cannot be done, this just shows complacency and lack of imagination on your part 😉

Similarly, they claimed that Russia will never build Crimea bridge, because USSR couldn’t. Complacency seems to be a feature of Ukrainian nationalism.

  146. There was no “Poland” in the immediate aftermath of WW2. It was a puppet regime, set up by the occupying Soviet army. Entire Eastern Europe was a Soviet occupation zone, and it was Soviet Union that handled population transfers and deportations.

LOL, when it comes to matters outside Russia you are ignorant as usual. So ignorant it is hilarious.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_and_expulsion_of_Germans_(1944%E2%80%9350)#Czechoslovakia

Between 700,000 and 800,000 Germans were affected by wild expulsions between May and August 1945.[104] The expulsions were encouraged by Czechoslovak politicians and were generally executed by order of local authorities, mostly by groups of armed volunteers and the army.

In mid-1945, the eastern territories of pre-war Germany were turned over to the Soviet-controlled Polish military forces. Early expulsions were undertaken by the Polish Communist military authorities[135] even before the Potsdam Conference placed them under temporary Polish administration pending the final Peace Treaty,[136] in an effort to ensure later territorial integration into an ethnically homogeneous Poland.[137] The Polish Communists wrote: “We must expel all the Germans because countries are built on national lines and not on multinational ones.

    :::::::::::::

So the expulsion of the Germans involved the massive effort of most Eastern European peoples including the victorious and massive Soviet Army, with the moral wight of the German genocide behind it. And you think the Russian rump state alone will manage such a feat in the 21st century 🙂

No, of course it wasn’t a “miracle”. You misunderstand the breakup of the USSR. It was a very calculated and controlled decision by the RSFSR leadership to ditch the ‘ethnics’

Of course. Whence their keeping the absolute best of the best of the ethnics, the north Caucasians. That makes a whole lot of sense.

Every move was planned in advance and carefully executed.

I traveled to the former SU in the mid-90s. Of course it really looked like a very nicely calculated plan.

  153. Peterson is cool – appropriation of his legacy would be another benefit to the US, of an annexation of Canada to the US.

But I do not receive the same impressions from Peterson – cool as improvising is – as from the recordings of Gould.

Also I question this distinction (reproductive from productive artists). An artist like Gould is contributing productively his own (sometimes very original) interpretations to the music -( it is not just “note-reading”) .

  154. Hell no, Manifest Destiny! Progressively seize Canada, slowly bulldoze the natives into the Arctic Sea, and then re-settle our new Americans (naturalized immigrants) in the North in order to insure a buffer zone against polar bear attacks. Nothing makes Americans American faster than a hostile native population to defend against.

  155. Some Ukrainian-Canadian doctors went there to operate on the wounded, this is very important.

British Columbia is becoming dominated by the Chinese, and even beautiful Alberta is filling up with Chinese. BC will have Chinese as an official language before too long.

Islam is growing steadily in Canada, albeit from a small base, while the number of Protestants and Catholics declines steadily. Hinduism also growing steadily from its small base. Even more than whites in the USA, whites in Canada are deracinated, brainwashed, self-hating, virtue signaling fools who compete to see who can give up more property, more liberty, and more political and social power to nonwhites.

Annexing all of Canada would be disastrous and would accelerate America’s descent. Perhaps several of the more sparsely populated provinces that are still quite white, I.e. Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with their fertile ag land and potash and Nat gas deposits, but we would be fools to take Vancouver, and even more foolish to take utterly hostile, balkanizing, nonwhite Toronto or Montreal.

  158. But happen it will, or Russia will cease to exist as a civilizational entity.

I don’t understand why this is supposed to be.

  159. You are right, this is why Russia’s neighbors should be building infrastructure in small towns and villages. It is careless not to do that. Similar to what American survivalists are doing. Many people still have homes on the country side, but they need to be properly supplied (food, weapons, etc).

I despise Trudeau, the CBC, multiculturalism and most things the left has imposed on me, however, there is a fair amount I don’t like about the United States. The US is too big and too brash, I don’t like their sports, I don’t like their military, I don’t like their consumer culture and I don’t like their entertainment industry. I guess, it’s the monstrosity that the US has become that I don’t like and if Canada joined the US we would have all our problems multiplied by ten. I say small is beautiful, lets keep it that way.

  172. It’s not Tagalog that will be an official language of BC someday, it’s mandarin

In Canada, are Mandarin speakers of a lower IQ class or worse-behaved than Tagalog speakers?

I only ask, as it seems to me that both Mainland Chinese and Filipinos in Canada are groups of mostly educated, well-to-do professionals, with the Chinese in fact having considerably more money and resources than the Filipinos to throw into the economy.

  173. Are there any non-religious secular reasons to discourage the LGBTQTGHZ movement and put LGBTs back in the closet like in the year 1950?

Apart from the obvious things (spreading horrible diseases and molesting children) they undermine the family (and they do this deliberately and consciously) and therefore contribute to the atomisation of society.

Worst of all, the LGBTQTGHZ movement encourages heterosexual teenagers to “explore” their sexuality which turns perfectly normal heterosexual kids into more psychologically damaged degenerates. They actively recruit new members into a lifestyle that is both self-destructive and socially destructive.

These people don’t just want to be left alone to pursue their strange lifestyles – they are driven by hate and they want to destroy everything that is normal and decent.

The non-religious secular reasons for forcing the LGBT crowd back into the closet are actually overwhelmingly stronger than the religious reasons.

  174. Homosexuals are the State’s perfect citizens.

They’re also the perfect tools of capitalism. They’re perfect consumers. They have no morality. They don’t care about the future. They’re entirely selfish. 175. Anatoly Karlin is completely oblivious to the reality that is contemporary USA.

It is a crumbling empire. It is a polity that has achieved dystopian levels of governance in large swaths of most of its cities. It will collapse or splinter apart within, I estimate, about twenty to thirty years.

Karlin should stop reading, and believing, the NYT or WaPo and try to develop a bit of situational awareness.

Realistically we would only need to worry about CIA-led “resistance” in the Western parts of the country. 183. Felix Keverich says

Does Russia desire territorial gains west of the Dnjepr?

In theory – no. Realistically, every part of the Ukraine that we fail to occupy will get pumped by NATO weapons, advisers and used as a platform to wage hybrid war against Russia, so either we’ll need a strategy to deal with this threat or we could just occupy, which will be cheaper and easier, than trying to contain NATO-funded Banderostan.

IMO destroying and ethnically cleansing Galicia would bring a decisive resolution to this conflict.

  184. Authenticjazzman says

” An artist like Gould is contributing, productively his own (sometimess very original) interpretations to the music”

You are talking to myself as if I I have no understanding of classical music, when fact is
aside from being a jazz performer with over fifty years thereof behind me, I also studied classical flute performance in conservatory for four years, with an outstanding “Abschluss”,
having worked through the two Mozart flute concertos in G and D and bringing them to performance level. I also took on the Bach flute creations, and several modern classical composers starting with Debussy.

“Very original interpretations” : Gould’s interpretations are okay as “interpretations” , however without changing notes, which is absolutely tabu in the field of classical music, there is really not much originality which can be extracted out of a written-out composition complete with prescribed dynamics and tempos, rubato, etc.
The classical world, which is fully aware of it’s limitations and constrictions, incessantly attempts to conjure up some new kind of “originality” wich is simply not there. Bach wrote his sonatas to be recognized as that precisely which they are : Bach’s sonatas, period.

Reiner Tor raises a reasonable point that conquest and annexation would be unsettling across the globe and perhaps spur anti-American coalitions.

Certainly if it comes down to it, one can’t rule out the use of force. The Canuckist Entity is a stain on the map of North America and must be liquidated by any means necessary.

That said, it’s highly unlikely a shot would need to be fired. Simply organize a color revolution in Quebec and Canada will crumble. The first domino to fall thereafter will no doubt be Alberta, rapidly followed by Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Atlantic Canada will petition for annexation thereafter.

Some arm-twisting will be required with British Columbia and Ontario (or perhaps not with FORD NATION), but they’ll succumb to economic pressure.

    Done deal.

The US can then greatly assuage other great powers by noting to Russia and China that is has no objections their respective anchluss aspirations.

As for the idea that Canadian voters are inherently leftist, in addition to being wrong (FORD NATION), as Karlin pointed out this irrelevant. US Territories do not vote in federal elections.

Quebec’s status would be that of an independent protectorate. They’re a genuinely distinctive nation.

  186. Mr. Hack says

You do understand that an operation like the annexation of Canada by the US would be an enormous undertaking? And why engage in such a foolish thing in the first place? Modern countries today can economically dominate others through free market mechanisms including the international stock markets. Culturally? Hollywood does a great job of that right now. Why make enemies out of perfectly pliable allies? Let sleeping dogs lie, Son of Thor – leave these sorts of stupid militaristic fantasies in your comic book collection. 🙂

Oh, I don’t know? I’ve been listening to some fantastic modern adaptations of classical music, mostly inspired by Bach’s music, by such incredibly versatile jazz artists like Jacques Loussier and Claude Bolling. ‘The Art of Noise’ an avant garde experimental group have put out an interesting collection of Debussy inspired work. And what are we to make of the daring ‘Switched on Bach’ repertoire of Wendy Carlos? I’d say that the ‘limitations and constrictions’ that you reference are being transgressed all of the time (and in a very enjoyable manner!).

The insane Russo/Ukrainian conflict in Donbas isn’t helping matters much either.

  194. RadicalCenter says

Definitely not talking only about average incomes or average net worth. A society is very very much more than that, as is or was our culture. OUR culture.

Also, there are plenty of Chinese who come to Canada and the USA as middle-aged and elderly people, racking up millions of dollars in medical expenses as most of us do in our late years, without having paid much into the system in taxes in their earlier decades because they weren’t here. What a bargain, though, because some of their kids earn a lot and pay a lot of taxes, especially compared to those Filipinos. Yeah.

We see elderly Chinese people by the thousands in LA and other towns here, e.g. Alhambra to the northeast or Irvine to the south. Try speaking English to them and see how many can’t do it. That right there means that they didn’t work here, certainly not any legal job here, for the many years they would need to cover some of what they are costing us.

  195. RadicalCenter says

ps my personal experience was that Chinese in Vancouver-Richmond were not polite or pleasant, Filipinos ran the gamut and were on average warmer, usually less brusque or rude, and easier to relate to and speak with.

  196. RadicalCenter says

Great point, and one we don’t hear often enough. Homosexuality leads to inherently unclean unhygienic practices, disease, and earlier death (especially for the males), and that’s science and observation from our long experience with that “lifestyle.” Not religion.

Homosexuality also leads, necessarily, to at least half of the members of homosexual “couples” never conceiving their own children. It also entails, by definition, many more thousands of children NOT being raised by both of their natural biological parents.

It also leads to millions of people not sharing our most fundamental priorities, values, and hopes, because they never have children and don’t relate to or care about the future of those children as we do. They’re just never as invested and committed to the future of that new generation as we are, because our own flesh and blood is there and our own genetic and cultural survival is on the line. Those genetic deadenders don’t care about perpetuating their own families, and resent or at least fail to understand or relate to ours, and they vote and act accordingly.

Europe: it’s all imploding and within an election cycle or two the immigration policies will return to a more sane provenance. Countries there are allowed to foster there own languages, etc; unlike in what would appear if Ukraine were to unite closer to Russia (hundreds of years of history has born this out). Russia has never countenanced the Ukrainian language or its culture. Just read how Karlin feels about the Ukrainian culture in comment #127. For more of the same flavor, just read any of Mr. Keverich’s comments. For the life of me, I don’t understand why AP seems to brush over Karlin’s disrespectful views of Ukraine and its culture, while going tooth and nail against Keverich, when they both share almost identical positions regarding Ukraine??….

Hey Stan, thoroughly agree that many white Canadians, mainly outside Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, are lovely people. Friendly, down to earth, industrious, patriotic, welcoming to their American brothers, and sharing our values and priorities, hopes and dreams, mores, our conception of fairness and right, and humor — but understandably with their own local flavor and twist.

But nowadays BC will be nothing like Saskatoon even if they wised up and paid the Chinese to leave.

What pussy multiculti canadians call “visible minorities” make up a THIRD of BC’s population already, and those groups are growing while white Canadians fail to reproduce at replacement level.

Putting the Chinese aside (11-12% of BC’s population two years ago, in 2016), BC has large “communities” of Punjabis (Sikh Indians), Hindu Indians, and Filipinos (who suddenly make up more than 2.5% of Canada’s entire population and 3% of BC’s).

They’re kucky to have comparatively very few Africans and Mexicans up there — which enabled the naive cloistered white Canadian shits to lecture us mean Americans about racism, the need for gun control, crime, and poverty — but it sure isn’t going to be a western and european civilization I’d want to live in there, either.

The province as a whole is dropping near 60% white European, and I don’t know whether Canada smuggles Iranians or North Africans or whatever the hell into the “white” category like the US sometimes does.

  202. Why?

  203. Authenticjazzman says

Okay first of all : I myself am, without boasting, a classically-trained musician, so I do in fact know what I am talking about.

Secondly : As soon as folks like Loussier and Bolling put their touch to Bach or any other Baroque/Romance composer, the end result is no longer Bach, it is some kind of bastardization of Bachs creations but it is most defintely NO LONGER BACH.

Bach is authentic Bach; only when it is performed precisely as he penned it and without even the most minute alterations.

“The limitations and constrictions that you reference are being transgressed all of the time”

Yeah with the results being that the music is no longer authentic.

Look I know that you will not agree with me, so let’s just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Civilized people remaining in both countries need to help each other preserve what is left, and restore what we can, of our traditional common culture and language. We should be bolstering tourism, trade, common religious and sporting activities, and especially student exchange programs specifically between EuroCanadians and EuroAmericans and the communities where we still live in numbers on both sides of the border.

Let’s get the new bridge and more built between Michigan and Ontario (Detroit Windsor) already, rather than wasting hundreds of billions abroad. Connect to our neighbors to the north, the ones who actually are an asset and friend to us.

I hope you’re right about Europe coming to its senses, Hack.

What sign is there, though, that they will stop all african and Muslim immigration into their countries, let alone deport large numbers of people already there? How about ending endless chain migration (“family reunification”)? Hell, we’re not even seriously trying to do that under trump here.

Maybe Italy, to a lesser extent Denmark, almost among the countries considered “Western Europe”, are waking up sufficiently and in time to survive.

But England, France, Germany, and Sweden show NO sign of doing half of what needs to be done anytime soon. There are fucking hand grenades being thrown in Sweden, man, and entire police forces and fire department crews are attacked en masse as if by a militia. Women are surrounded by gangs of men as in Arab or Indian lands and raped when possible. Police tell women inntoens the recorded nary a murder or rape for years, not to go out except in large groups. They typically can’t buy handguns, so they’re buying tens of millions of knives and mace canisters. The Germans discipline or fine or fire police or prosecutors who tell the truth or release racial or national origin details about convicted rapists, murderers, and thieves. Houellebecq’s “Submission” is all too accurate a prediction for France, etc.

Because of the suicidally low native fertility rates in those four countries, every year tips the demographic balance noticeably, inexorably. Can’t share your relative optimism about Europe, Hack, but let’s pray.

Unless these demoralized, deracinated, non-Christian white Europeans start having a lot more children, they will end up a despised minority in their own lands. Somewhere on the spectrum from persecution and subjugation to eventual extermination.

  206. Mr. Hack says

The limitations and constrictions that you reference are being transgressed all of the time”

Yeah with the results being that the music is no longer authentic.

Oh, I agree with you 100%! But so what? The new improvisational music coming out based on the ideas that originated in another era are a great tribute to this music. I mean, I don’t have anything at all against the old music being played in an authentic fashion and have hundred of such CD’s in my own private collection (and neither would any of the artists that I’ve mentioned above, who also have put out ample samples of that sort of music too), but I find the newer renditions quite interesting in themselves, needing no apologies, and quite frankly find your own rather terse opinion to not quite live up to your self described accomplishments of being both a jazz musician and a classically trained one too. Do you not enjoy the improvisational output of Loussier and Boling? Perhaps, I’m just not understanding you correctly?

  207. RadicalCenter says

Re Russian attitudes toward, meaning against, Ukraine, I have to agree with you for a change. They seem to have a real nasty, condescending-alternating-with-threatening approach to Ukrainians who think that Ukraine has and should have its own culture.

Still, it seems that it might be a better idea to let the far western oblasts join Poland, Slovakia, or Hungary, as the case may be, if they vote for it decisively in a referendum.

Likewise let more of Eastern and southern Ukraine join or return to Russia, including Luhansk, Donetsk, and Mariupol.

The bulk of the country’s population and land can then be independent Ukraine. It won’t have many people in it within a few decades, given how fast their population is dropping, but it can be independent. Whoever is left, perhaps 20 million people, can develop a Ukrainian language and culture more free from Russian influence or loyalties. Russia should respect that and stop being insulting and childish in their ad hominem against Ukrainians.

And an independent Ukraine that doesn’t pose a threat to Russia, IF it agrees never to join the EU, NATO or the like. However obnoxious Russian attitudes towards nonRussian Ukrainians can be, they can reasonably require that their volatile, declining neighbor ageee not to join organizations that will yield major US military forces right on Russia’s border.

Let me conclude with GOOD LUCK TO RUSSIA in their game against Croatia. Starts in a few minutes.

  208. Authenticjazzman says

” Do you not enjoy the improvisational output of Loussier or Bolling” : No as Bach was not created or designed to be performed in a Jazz setting and it is not an element of the jazz idiom period. Bach’s wonderful creations are only distorted and rendered inauthentic through the application of a so-called “Jazzy” treatment.

However I do enjoy the output of one Charlie Parker, and one Stan Getz, and Chet Baker and Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman, and Art Pepper, and Miles Davis, and Zoot Sims, and John Coltrane, and Bill Evans and on and on, (and my own output as well) as the list of superb authentic Jazz players is too long to post here.

Plus if you do not believe my credentials as both a classically trained and Jazz player, so be it as I do not seek your approval or your validation.

  209. Mr. Hack says

In government-controlled Donbas, ethnic self-identification has gone up compared to five years ago: more people feel ethnic Ukrainian (up to 11.4% from 6.7%), ethnic Russian, or both. Regional self-identification “person from Donbas, Luhansk, Donetsk region) has gone down. However, most of the people in Donbas still self-identify in civic categories, as Ukrainian citizens, and this number has remained almost unchanged (53.2%), although it is an identity in flux, with respondents also shifting from Ukrainian citizenship to Ukrainian ethnicity or a regional Donbas identity

This was taken from polling in 2017. So, a small portion more still feel that civically, they are Ukrainian citizens. Even ethnic identification has increased quite a bit. As for the Western provinces going along with your prognosis, as they say LOL! Ukrainians by and large are content with the borders as they are, and don’t feel a need for any tweaking. The tweakers are usually outside provocateurs that know little to nothing about Ukraine and its history. Even the great Karlin has never picked up and read a single book devoted to Ukrainian history! 🙂

  210. reiner Tor says

Bach actually didn’t pen out many of the details. In part because at the time some things were customarily only played in certain ways and so he didn’t have to spell it out. And in part because he expected some improvisation from the players.

And even where they did mark all the details (like tempi or even volume), whenever they themselves performed their own works, they invariably deviated from their own notations. Beethoven was a notably free interpreter of his own works, and for example from Bartók even recordings exist where he disregarded his own tempo markings.

So it’s not obvious that there’s no leeway here.

  211. I will admit that Filipinos are among the least worrisome of all possible non-white immigrants. They seem to be on the whole fairly law-abiding (unlike the Chinese), don’t seem to constantly demand special consideration, and are not determined to reorient Canadian institutions to the dysfunctional norms of their home societies (South Asians/Muslims).

  212. reiner Tor says

GOOD LUCK TO RUSSIA in their game against Croatia

    No, they need to lose.

First, Croatia is a brotherly nation for Hungary, and so I support them.

Second, there are annoying rumors of Russian doping, and they need to be put to rest.

  213. Mr. Hack says

Although I share your great admiration for the full list of musical giants that you’ve listed, especially Chalie Parker and Miles Davis, I guess as you’ve already indicated, we’ll have to part company when we it comes to Lousier and Bolling. It’s not that I doubt that you have credentialed as a classical musician, it’s jut that I still remain in wonder as to your assessment of Bach’s music’s non-accessibility to improvisational methods:

Before his compositions were rediscovered, JS Bach was not known as a composer (as CPE Bach was) but as one of the foremost improvisers and performers of his time...At that time, improvisation was a common practice. Actually, when keyboard instruments started to be used, its music was not even written. Keyboard music started as accompaniment for choirs, etc. Therefore, the keyboard performer Everything was improvised. would often rely on a voice score or whatever and improvise a second voice or whatever from that. When they started to notate music for keyboard, they didn’t have a proper way to do it.

This feels like ancient ages to us, but for Bach it was not that far away. Bach and his contemporaries come from that tradition. Bach was probably able to improvise the kind of music that he wrote, since composition and performance was not detached as it is today. Bach would probably be able to improvise a little invention on the clavichord, or a complete fugue on the organ, or a continuo accompaniment for a soloist, a Choral preludium from a Choral, also transpose an accompaniment for a singer… He would probably improvise pretty much the same kind of stuff that he wrote on paper, only that, perhaps, without the formal strictness and complexity of the written works. In fact, many works or parts of works written by Bach may come from improvisations that he later wrote down and elaborated.

Perhaps, you slept through that lecture? 🙂

  214. reiner Tor says

Cheryshev’s goal was perhaps more beautiful, but both were great, Kramaric and Mandzukic played in tandem nicely.

Can we all just agree that the Russian team has already vastly exceeded expectations?

  215. RadicalCenter says

I’ve been to western Ukraine but very far from an expert. Didn’t imply I was.

Also didn’t predict what western Ukrainians will do. If they vote to stay where they are, as you are confident they will, probably rightly, that’s fine with me and should be fine with us, Russia, whoever.

Why not have all the oblasts vote and respect the will of each?

The result might well be almost every oblast voting to stay where they are, with only a couple exceptions in the east/se voting to join Russia.

  216. Mr. Hack says

Well, perhaps Europe like the US has a great need to fill lower rung type economic jobs? If not, then the current enthusiasm for unlimited immigration is truly going to end up being a fool’s paradise. If Europe (like Trump wants to encourage) is hoping to attract a more educated citizenry to its ranks, including entrepreneurial types, then that’s only a plus. Europeans and Americans have access to polling booths, and if they can’t find politicians willing to stand up for what they believe in, then they deserve what they get.

  217. Authenticjazzman says

Look friend I have been aware of the reputation of JSB as a great improvisor since well before you were probably born.

This is common knowledge amongst classical trained musicians in Europe and therefore not even a point of discussion, as the art of improvisation had been one of the basis elements of the musicality of every legendary Baroque/Romance composer, whether Bach, Mozart, Teleman, Chopin, Schuman, Schubert, and on and on.

However the mistake in your viewpoint lies within your misunderstanding of Bach’s relationship to improvisation and the performance of his written out works : Bach was known as a great improvisor, however he did not compose his written works as a basis for improvisation, this being the error in your accessment of his music. His written out compositions were penned by him to be executed precisely as they were recorded on paper, without any incorporation of improvisation whatsoever, such as executed by loussier and co.

You are attempting to find a flaw in my viewpoints, and as someone who has actually walked the same grounds as Amadeus Mozart, I had an appartment around the corner fifty meters from his former Mannheim residence, I know what I am talking about, and you will not find flaw within my statements period.

You also apparently do not know that the main element of Jazz performance is in fact : the improvised solo.

  218. You agree but you say it’s a ridiculous idea? And Russians didn’t want to continue the USSR either. Russia doesn’t need to be in union with Ukraine and Belarus, but what Brzezinski et al want are adversarial relationships between Russia and its neighbors, mirroring the Baltics situation. For his part, Putin has fallen into their trap and basically reaffirmed the most pernicious Atlanticist propaganda.

  219. Mr. Hack says

His written out compositions were penned by him to be executed precisely as they were recorded on paper, without any incorporation of improvisation whatsoever, such as executed by loussier and co.

Not according to the quotation that I’ve relied on. I’m far from an expert on Bach and his music, but it seems to me that if he were around today he would be pleased with the modern adaptations of his music. Perhaps, you ran into him around the corner of your apartment in Mannheim and he told you otherwise? We’ll never really know will we, but millions of people including many devout lovers of music are willing to shell out their hard earned bucks and purchase this type of music. For how many decades now? 1950’s – 2018. Let’s just leave it as you’ve already indicated, or as they say in Russian:

в кус и цвет товрища нет!*

*On taste and on color there are no friends.

  220. Mr. Hack says

And Russians didn’t want to continue the USSR either.

Except for a few notable excptions, Putin:

the collapse of the Soviet empire “was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century”

  221. Maybe he doesn’t want to get banned? Lol. I hate Ukrainian nationalism as much as anyone, but the attitudes you mention are playing into the hands of Svoboda, Right Sector et al

  222. RadicalCenter says

Absolutely. They just gave up a goal to Croatia, who now leads 2-1 in overtime, but either way they can be very proud.

Russia’s surprise run has made it a lot more fun and given me someone to root for in the absence of the USA or any of my ancestral countries remaining in the Cup (e.g. Italy, Germany, Sweden).

Though I wonder how my Slovak ancestors would feel about me rooting for Russia, LOL.

  223. He also said that people who want the USSR back are dumb. Seems like he’s referencing the resulting military conflicts, economic collapse, and general chaos there.

  224. RadicalCenter says

For those lower-skill jobs, we have millions of chronically unemployed Americans, not to mention a substantial increase in automation. We do not need to import a new nation, or a Balkanized mess of competing nations, to fill those jobs.

It would not be surprising if several MILLION jobs in transportation will be eliminated or reduced fairly soon, such as truckers and drivers of Uber/Lyft/taxi/limo and buses. Further automation seems likely to reduce or at best keep level the number of fast food jobs, vis a vis a still-growing population.

  225. Well, Zbig is dead, but I think the reasoning was that Russia is basically a Eurasian power without Ukraine, also the Russian heartland becomes much more vulnerable. If you look at Huntington’s Clash of civilizations map, it becomes pretty clear

  226. Mr. Hack says

Sure, he thinks that people who want the USSR back are dumb. Certainly, after he discovered that he sits at the top of an oligarchic pyramid where he’s been able to amass a huge personal fortune. The new Russia has been very good for Putin…very, very good indeed. He’s content with the status quo, and is very, very pleased to be president for life. 🙂

  227. Thorfinnsson says

Doping rules. Those opposed to doping are cowards.

All I can say for what’s left of the World Cup is go slavs. Only the mighty slavs can save us from the disgusting colorized “European” teams now that Sweden is out.

Though the English side isn’t nearly as bad as “Belgium” let alone “France” in this department.

  228. Mr. Hack says

I thought that Sweden was one of those ‘disgusting colorized ‘European’ countries too? There must be be better ones and worst ones, according to your hierarchy that I’m still not acquainted with? 🙂

Those opposed to doping are cowards.

No, better methods to disguise the doping is what’s needed. Russia should take the lead in this endeavor, for it seems to be the greatest abuser, er, I mean user of these methods…

  229. reiner Tor says

The Swedish team is basically all European.

  230. Annex Canada? This is not possible. Americans will get lost in Canadian geography and while searching for Canadian capital (Toronto, right?), Canadians will burn White house. Again.

  231. Thorfinnsson says

Sweden of course shares the migration problems of all Western countries.

But the Swedish side this year was very Swedish. Even the two mulattoes were at least the product of the #BleachRight.

  232. Mr. Hack says

But according to your highly vaunted hierarchy of relevant certain countries, does Sweden even have the right to exist? Didn’t you once propose to have it incorporated into a greater Germany, kind of like what I think Hitler was imagining too (they are after all two ‘Germanic’ countries)?

Maybe all of these small ‘Germanic’ countries should coalesce under the rubric of a Greater Germany too:

    Austria.
Belgium (slightly more than 60% majority concentrated in Flanders and the German-speaking Community of Belgium)
    Denmark.
    Germany.
    United Kingdom

Remember, great minds think alike (you & Hitler, of course!). 🙂

  233. reiner Tor says

Those opposed to doping are cowards.

    Very wrong.

  234. Mr. Hack says

And don’t forget Norway & Sweden too!

  235. Hippopotamusdrome says

    Even the Zulus?

  236. Hippopotamusdrome says

    What about English?

  237. Canada also uses the metric system. Somebody has to make a big switch.

Another thing to note is that the Imperial (British/Canadian) liquid measures, while rarely used in Canada nowadays, are not the same as the customary (American) liquid measures. The Imperial fluid ounce (28.41 mL) is not the same as the customary fluid ounce (29.57 mL). And it doesn’t stop there; the Imperial pint is 20 fl oz (568.26 mL), while the customary pint is 16 fl oz (473.18 mL). I doubt anyone reading this might give a hoot about it, but it’s something to consider.

In the event that Canada does get annexed by the US, I guess there will be four options: (expect some backlash from each one.)
    A. Nothing changes; Canada keeps using metric, while the US keeps using customary.
    B. Canada switches to the American customary system. (Those who use Imperial at home would have to re-learn their liquid measures.)
    C. Canada reverts to the Imperial system. (liquid products would have to be labeled with both Imperial and customary measures. Anyone trying to discuss liquid measures will have to give the correct context at the risk of confusing the other person.)
    D. The US switches to metric. (This is about America annexing Canada, not the other way around. Regardless, this would not work because the population of Anglophone Canada is nearly a tenth of that of the US; it’s easier to educate a population of 30M than a population of 300M. It’d still be too late anyway*.)

*Side note: I recall reading once that, sometime in the 1790s, Thomas Jefferson requested a copy of the meter and kilogram to be shipped from France with the intent of switching to metric, but the plan failed when the sailor was captured and killed by British pirates. I’m not trying to debate whether America should (continue to) switch; I’m just pointing out that attempts for America to go metric didn’t start with Carter.

  238. As much as I’m ambivalent to the prospect of Canada getting annexed by the US, however, there are a lot of differences between their cultures that will take a lot of effort ironing out. A few examples:
    * Spelling is different (obviously).
    * From the makers of Nutella, Kinder Surprise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinder_Surprise), a brand of chocolate eggs with toys inside, is legal in Canada, but illegal in the USA.
    * There are certain food products in Canada that you can’t get in the US, and vice-versa. (One example is Smarties: in the US, they’re tablet candies made of dextrose (called “Rockets” in Canada), while in Canada and the rest of the world, they’re sugar-coated chocolates similar to M&M’s.)
    * The legal drinking age is 21 in the US, while in Canada, it ranges from 18 to 19 depending on the province/territory.

There are also major benefits for Canadians

The last time I visited Canada, two of the things that I didn’t like were:
    1) the lack of proper GMO labels on the packaging of some food products (I’m not against GMOs), and
    2) the lack of proper food dye differentiation (instead of listing each dye one by one, they just simply write “colour (contains tartrazine)”.)
I doubt many of you would give a hoot about, let alone approve of, any of these, so YMMV on that one.

No longer need to use stupid looking Canadian money

Not sure about the coins, but with regards to the banknotes/bills, many of us are aware that Canadian banknotes, unlike American banknotes, have bolder colors (like Monopoly money) and are made of polymer. I can understand the aversion to polymer notes; while they’re certainly waterproof (if not more robust), they can easily slip off your pocket.
If I’m not mistaken, the rationale for the brighter colors was to make them easier to distinguish for the sight-impaired, but the effectiveness of this is doubtful. I personally don’t care about the coloration of the banknotes, but I’d be grateful for any better ideas.

  239. But England, France, Germany, and Sweden show NO sign of doing half of what needs to be done anytime soon.

The big problem is that the “far right” and “nationalist” parties in Europe are for the most part hopelessly pozzed. In the long term pozzed nationalists are going to be worse than useless – it’s the poz that has made Europe (and the entire West) such an easy target. Their idea of the core European values that need defending are feminism, sodomy, transgenderism and pornography. They are actually enemies of European civilisation.

And the “far right” is often more zionist than nationalist (in Britain in particular the far right cares more about Israel than about Britain).

  240. They seem to have a real nasty, condescending-alternating-with-threatening approach to Ukrainians who think that Ukraine has and should have its own culture.

You don’t say (hello, it’s been that way since 1991). In fact, I’ve heard an older Ukrainian veteran, who heard Zhirinovsky speak in the late 1980s, saying: “I knew right then that there will be a war.” Not in 2014, but in the late 80s.
It’s not that Ukrainians “think” they have their own culture, they do have their own culture. Only idiots who do not know the Slavic peoples don’t see that. The similarities and differences are obvious – the Slavic family is like a beautiful mosaic with shining, intermingling colors, reflecting off of each other. So you admit that there is this attitude and you still insist that Ukraine should supplicate? You do realize that they’re burying their children as we speak. That people are being maimed. How would you feel if there was a larger nation, let’s say, China, treating Americans with such contempt and cruelty (in their own country), and I told you to kiss up to China or else…! You do realize that Ukraine wanted to be independent in 1918, and in 1941.

Still, it seems that it might be a better idea to let the far western oblasts join Poland, Slovakia, or Hungary, as the case may be, if they vote for it decisively in a referendum.

Once again you demonstrate a complete lack of knowledge about Ukraine, you as an American, should be neutral, but you reveal that, due to some strange biases, you are in fact an enemy and make no mistake – you will be treated as such.

Nobody in Western Ukraine, with the exception of maybe some small groups, wants to secede from Ukraine – it is absurd to claim that Western Ukrainians want to join Poland or the tiny Slovakia. There are some young, strong Ukrainian nationalists in Ternopil (in better shape than most Western dudes) and if they heard what you said they would have thrown you out of there like a filthy rag! Nobody in Poland, with the exception of marginal far right groups, even wants to “annex” parts of Ukraine. If they did – let them try, they’d get their asses kicked. The relationship between Ukrainians and Poles is characterized by moderate friendliness, some mutual interest and some historic tension – yes, some of it is unpleasant, but that’s how it goes with large Slavic nations, it’s normal.

Likewise let more of Eastern and southern Ukraine join or return to Russia, including Luhansk, Donetsk, and Mariupol.

You can forget about Mariupil – it is not going anywhere without a blood shed. Azov is stationed there, a large part of the city is pro-Ukrainian, the mayor is pro-Ukrainian and an important Donbas industrialist, Serhiy Taruta, who is from there, is also pro-Ukrainian.

Also, I hope that you are aware that not all Russians want to accept Donbas. There are even audio clips of Russian soldiers who were about to be sent to Ukraine in 2015 talking on the phone who told their moms that they don’t want to go there, that they’d want to fight for the Rodina (the Motherland, meaning Russia) but not for some “sh*thole Luhansk” (real quote). On Russian talk shows there are plenty of individuals who, if otherwise considered “patriotic”, still don’t want to pay for Donbas. There is simply no unanimous opinion about it in Russia! And as to the Kremlin – we see how they’re operating.

In fact, Donbas itself hasn’t made up its mind about what it wants. So far, what is clear is that they just don’t want to be under the “hunta” and don’t want NATO (understandable since it would be unnatural to push NATO on that demographic). And above all I hope you do know that there is an ethnic Ukrainian population in the east as well.

Russia should respect that and stop being insulting and childish in their ad hominem against Ukrainians.

Russia doesn’t care about your childishly naive opinion. Russia will do as it pleases, and if Russia doesn’t respect Ukraine, it won’t, no matter what some Westerner says.

And an independent Ukraine that doesn’t pose a threat to Russia

What threat – who is on whose internationally recognized territory? Are the Ukrainians killing people in Kuban? Ukraine has the right to arm and defend itself, just like any other country. You want to defend your society, so do the Ukrainians. They are surrounded. Very, very serious and difficult to operate Russian artillery at work there. The kind that Western armies haven’t faced. In fact, from the ethical point of view – Ukraine has the right to tell both Russia and the US to take a hike and return to the Budapest format and simply try to develop a nuke. Kharkiv might still have a good enough institute for that.

IF it agrees never to join the EU, NATO or the like.

First of all, that will be for the Ukrainian population to decide. No, feel free to petition the State Department to reduce its staff in Ukraine by 2/3s. I’d like to see them willingly do that. Second, the West, in its current form, is not eternal (so don’t overestimate the importance of NATO). Third, Ukraine never wanted to be part of NATO. Still to this day, after all the violence, as far as I know, only 40% of Ukrainians are pro-NATO membership. Or it is some other, not very high number. As recent as 2010 (or even as late as right before the war), the Ukrainian nationalists supported and welcomed an all Eastern European confederation including Russia. Or an Eastern Slavic confederation with Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. Confederation does not equal one state or federation. All they wanted was to be left alone to celebrate their heroes as they pleased in their own country and to promote the Ukrainian language within their own historic ethnic lands that were already largely bilingual as many people in Donbas understand Ukrainian (btw, did you know that Kuban, RF, is also ethnically largely Ukrainian?) and not to have a lukewarm yo-yo government that tries to please everyone but is not protecting Ukraine enough from outside influences. You mentioned the negative effects of Westernization – you do realize that Ukraine was exposed to those already since 1991, having the negatives but not the positives (such as access to the EU export markets) and that even under Yanukovich Ukraine was not protected from Western vultures, such as sex tourists and the like, who should never had been given access to the Ukrainian population (I can’t believe people like Roosh could freely walk around there for so long)? In fact, the newly founded Druzhina should do something about it (being the first militia that is actually willing and capable of doing something about it) – foreigners, especially hostile ones, should not be allowed to snoop around Ukraine looking for access to their women.

The Ukrainian nationalists have never wanted to be part of NATO and they are still quite critical of this idea. They just want a stronger military, economic protectionism and an all Eastern European bloc.

  241. It seems once a “far right” party or group reaches a critical mass, it must necessarily become pro-Zionist – it is uncanny. I’d love to see a counter-example.

Also, one good news on the poz front; the lesbians might be gunning for the trannies:

  242. This is something Poles believe because they are nation of retards – consequently their ideas about the world are always mind-blowingly stupid.

If this point isn’t obvious to you then I suggest you should consider getting measured for a tard helmet yourself.

  243. I guess there will be four options:

I say that we use all three. This would make the social Darwinists here happy as it would tend to weed out the simple minded.

I personally don’t care about the coloration of the banknotes,

I don’t either, and I am sure many Americans share my opinion that it doesn’t matter as long as the end result of the annexation is that all of us end up with more of them.

  244. Maybe if Ukrainians refrained from throwing in with every mortal enemy of Russia that comes along, Russia would be a nicer big brother to little brother.

  245. Mr. Hack says

Ukraine wouldn’t need to be ‘throwing it in with every mortal enemy of Russia’ if it could find a respectful partner to deal with. A good analogy could be found in Scandinavia today. Sweden, Denmark and Norway were all involved in various regional power relationships in the past (with Norway usually sitting at the bottom of this triad). Today, however, they all live together in peaceful relations, respectful of each others cultural and language differences, even though they’re quite similar. None of these countries has to amp up its military capabilities in fear that one might find ‘little green men’ invading and illegally annexing some of its territory. On the contrary, you are aware that at least Sweden has been gearing up its military presence in response to Russia’s provocative moves in Swedish sea waters?

  246. Authenticjazzman says

” Perhaps, you ran into him around the corner of your apartment in Mannheim and he told you otherwise”

My apartment in Mannheim had been around the corner from the the 1777 residence of W A Mozart, Bach never lived in Mannheim.

Regarding the alteration through improvisation, of Bach’s compositions : JSB never indicated in any written score of his music that the performer was to be afforded the liberty to alter said compositions according to his own taste or concepts. His , Bach’s, scored interpretational rules were more or less limited to dynamics and tempos. He set down precisely the manner in which his works were to be presented, otherwise he would have indicated that the performer was entitled to alter or improvise over his, Bach’s, original scores. Undetermined alteration of such delicate works of music have the only effect of destroying the original intentions of the composer, in this case JSB.

Look you are talking about things of which you have no clue and you are trying to prove non-existant points.

Authenticjazzman “Mensa” qualified since 1973, airborne trained US Army vet, and pro jazz musician.

If you had a nasty suspicious mind you might think that once these groups establish a profile for themselves that they suddenly find themselves being generously funded by zionists or even by the Israeli government. It’s lucky that I don’t have a nasty suspicious mind.

People with nasty suspicious minds might also wonder if most of these “far right” groups are composed mostly of police informants and agents of counter-intelligence services.

  250. A good analogy could be found in Scandinavia

This is not analogous. Maybe this is part of Ukraine’s problem. Maybe no one there understands geo-politics. You are situated adjacent to a superpower, the surviving polity of one of the world’s greatest empires. You can either be a supplicant or a foolish antagonist doing the bidding of the US. Lately, and for a while, you have been choosing the wrong course of action.

find a respectful partner to deal with.

You don’t get to decide if Russia is a respectful partner. If Russia wants to flatter and cajole by designating Ukraine “a partner,” my advice would be to jump on it.

Sweden has been gearing up its military presence

I’ll bet the red alerts are still deafening in the Kremlin.

  251. Mr. Hack says

    This is not analogous

Well, even if it isn’t exactly, the relationships of these neighboring countries can serve as a good example of how to co-exist in a positive and sane manner. Russia is far from the superpower it once was.

You can either be a supplicant or a foolish antagonist doing the bidding of the US.

Not really, there are other options, you need to reread LatW’s comment #243 above for some other ideas.

WTH are you to decide whom Ukraine needs to partner up with? Ukraine has had plenty of time to mull over its future direction, and is fighting a costly war right now to maintain its ability to choose its own future direction.

On Russian talk shows there are plenty of individuals who, if otherwise considered “patriotic”, still don’t want to pay for Donbas.

“Russian Cypriots”, they are called. After where their money is stashed.

In fact, from the ethical point of view – Ukraine has the right to tell both Russia and the US to take a hike and return to the Budapest format and simply try to develop a nuke. Kharkiv might still have a good enough institute for that.

Hopefully they go ahead with that. Would be a good casus belli. If Moscow doesn’t take it, it will deserve to be nuked anyway (which will be inevitable).

As recent as 2010 (or even as late as right before the war), the Ukrainian nationalists supported and welcomed an all Eastern European confederation including Russia.

Blame Arabs. It was 9/11 that killed passport free travel in North America. It was both Canada and Mexico plus places like the Bahamas. Growing up on the border, I crossed hundreds of times since Canada had both a lower drinking age and higher alcohol content beer. If my memory serves, my last crossing without a passport was to buy a toilet. Hilarious right? In Canada you could buy real plumbing fixtures while in the US we had only the stupid 1/2 cup per flush atrocities. Real men drop real loads and who gives a crap about water conservation in Michigan? US Customs was fun coming back, “You got anything to declare?” Yep, American toilets are shit.

    Yep, American toilets are shit.

I agree with this. The newer, newer ones do have better designs than the previous generation of new ones. But the whole thing is pretty crazy. I can maybe understand it to some degree in Europe (European toilets also suck), where you have a much higher population density. It would make sense in the American desert, maybe, even in arid areas like California, but it doesn’t make sense on the East Coast or the Pacific NW, or even Middle America. Where I am, there’s about zero heavy industry and nearly zero agriculture, so there isn’t much demand for water, even though we get like 40 inches a year.

  276. We would use the Imperial measure, the American measure and the metric measure.

I just threw in the reference to Social Darwinists because I like to troll them every chance that I get.

  277. Yeah, sorry I got confused there. By “all three”, I thought you meant “options”, not “systems”. My apologies.
But come to think of it, though, since much of Canada has gone metric anyway, I’m guessing Imperial wouldn’t be relevant anymore, meaning that two systems (metric and customary) would be used instead of three. I don’t really know for sure, though.

  278. I’m guessing Imperial wouldn’t be relevant anymore

It might be useful in identifying enemies of the people.

  279. How so? Just curious.

  280. To play along with this fantasy, if the U. S. did annex Canada, there would be partisans and resistance.

A Canadian patriot and true believer would likely enjoy using the Imperial measure as a symbol of defiance.

For example, I refuse to use BCE and CE. I will forever use BC and AD. That identifies and marks me as a renegade. (Disregarding the fact that I am anonymous.)

  281. “Russian Cypriots”, they are called. After where their money is stashed.

Actually, who I had in mind was Ruslan Ostashko, a Russian opinion maker who was born in Donetsk and has been doing some reporting from there. He often appears on a talk show called Mesto Vstrechi, and, if I remember correctly, about a year ago, he said that Donbas shouldn’t be incorporated and that Donbas would be able to help itself, if it received some business from Russia (but the problem is that many companies are still in competition with their Russian counterparts). Anyway, my point was that things are not as black and white as some like to paint them.

Well, the post-Maidan threefold collapse in the value of the grivna has made the Ukraine far more attractive as a sex tourist destinations.

Of course, the situation is severe. But at least the nationalists, who under Yanukovich were political prisoners, are now free. The national Druzhina is well poised to take care of some long standing problems (alcohol and drug tochkas, for instance). They could deal with the sex tourists, as well – the beautiful thing is that they don’t have to do anything, the brothers could just show up (in their full attire – they even have grey (city) camouflage), act confident as they usually do, and the sex tourists would scurry away like Gypsies from a burning caravan. That’s right, why mess with the Gypsies, when there is worse out there… Maybe a few stronger incidents… and the chilling effect would work like magic.

  282. I can’t believe people like Roosh could freely walk around there for so long

If pick up artists are hitting on your women and it becomes known as a sex destination, then this is usually a telltale sign of a bonafide failure of patriarchal structure. Economic problems simply exacerbate the situation.

Men like Roosh are simply like hyenas waiting for the lions to fall asleep or get distracted.

  283. Influential Russians clearly hold similar views about Ukraine’s importance. Also Brzezinski set the bear trap in Afghanistan and Poland is doing quite well for itself, so maybe you should get fitted for such a helmet.

  284. Total area of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine is still smaller than total area of USA and Canada.

    Think bigger:

The total area of Europe (including european Russia) is ~4 million sq mi. And it’s white population is ~700 million. If all the full blooded Europeans settled in the Americas, Oceania, Siberia, Africa went back to Europe it’s population would increase to ~1200 million.

The area of China is 3.7 million sq mi and it’s population is 1400 million.

The total area of Subsaharan Africa is ~9 million sq mi (rough estimate) and it’s population is ~1000 million.

The area of India is ~1.3 million sq mi and it’s population is ~1300 million.

The total area of all countries with a muslim majority is ~9 million sq mi (rough estimate) and the total muslim population in the world is ~1800 million.

These are the billion+ entities on the planet today. Two of them (China and India) are nation states already. The others are not. But could be in the future, based on race (Europe, Africa) or religion (Islam).

Ukraine can develop nukes (something like a dirty bomb) quickly, but missile delivery would be a problem.

If Ukraine got to the point of having a nuclear missile, it would also by then have the means to do very nasty things in retaliation if it came down to an existential threat/Russian invasion. Nobody wants that.

Donbas and Yanukovich were disliked in Lviv (and Kiev), but not Russia. Putin has changed this.

Well, the post-Maidan threefold collapse in the value of the grivna has made the Ukraine far more attractive as a sex tourist destinations. Congrats.

Has it? Traditionally the place for sex tourism was in the eastern parts of the country, due to the nature of morality there. While these areas are now poorer, they are probably seen as more dangerous.

I googled this guy roosh’s observations from Kiev in 2015, when Ukraine hit post-90s rock bottom:

    http://www.rooshv.com/5-observations-from-my-2015-visit-to-ukraine

“By default, Ukrainian women want long-term relationships. You can of course extract easy sex from the more promiscuous class of Ukrainian women, but going to Ukraine for easy sex is the same as going to America to find a wife—it’s possible but a foolish choice… For relationships and marriage, Ukraine is a better bet. Looking back, it was silly of me to go to Ukraine while I was still in my humping phase.”

An observation by a commenter here:

    http://www.unz.com/isteve/im-shocked-shocked-to-hear/?highlight=lviv#comment-757678

“The Western Ukrainians are like Poles. Even despite decades of outright Soviet neglect and outright antagonism the level of culture in a place like Lwow (Lviv) far outstrips anything in Donetsk. I’ve spent significant time in both cities. Lwow felt like a Western city occupied by a foreign power. The people are fantastic, in a true conservative sense. They value their history, their land, their crafts, and they are a self-sufficient people. Donetsk is completely Soviet – deracinated, crappy industries, corrupt and crime ridden, and full of people who would emigrate to the West in a heart beat if they could. Even before the fighting Donetsk was a basket case like every other Russian and East Ukrainian city. If you want to get laid, go to Donetsk. The women have no morals, prostituting yourself is just what women do. In Lwow people still get married and value families. That alone explains why so many in the “manosphere” side with East Ukraine.”

  289. reiner Tor says

in 2013 65% of western Ukrainians had positive feelings towards Russia

However, I’m not sure if that’s very valuable to Russia. For example Bulgaria also has very positive feelings towards Russia, but it joined a coalition led by Russia’s enemies. Hungary is just slightly hostile to Russia, but it’s part of the same coalition. As is the highly hostile Poland. So does it matter that much?

I don’t think Russians are wise to keep insulting Ukrainians or to fantasize about occupying Ukraine (which would create the problem of a disloyal population, and probably wouldn’t be done by any half sane Russian government anyway), but I can understand if they think that preventing NATO bases in the Crimea was worth Ukrainian hostility.

  290. Peter Akuleyev from the same thread:

You also have a very distorted and negative picture of Romanians that is about 20 years out of date. You should take a trip to Bucharest, and notice how much nicer it is than any Ukrainian or Russian city. Are you a Hungarian by any chance? Can you tell the difference between a gypsy and an ethnic Romanian?

So I am somewhat qualified to comment on that now. Bucharest is not a bad city by any stretch of the imagination, but it is middling by Russian millioniki standards – at best (and obviously holds no light to Moscow). If he wanted to make a point like that, he should have sooner made it about the Romanian countryside, which struck me as more prosperous (or at least better kempt) than much of Russia’s.

So I have a few reservations about his assessment.

  291. It seems once a “far right” party or group reaches a critical mass, it must necessarily become pro-Zionist

New races are being born in both places. More Amerindian in Mexico, more African in Brazil, mixed mostly with Spaniards and Portuguese respectively.

Btw, Brazil+Mexico is almost equal to USA in population and about 200,000 sq mi bigger in land.

  304. but as the replies to that guy show

Replies were written by “glossy”, a Sovok Stalin-fan who is another moron when it comes to Ukraine.

    Galicia has always been poorer

Prior to Soviet rule Galicia was richer.

In 1890 the per capita product, in 2010 dollars, for Galicia was $1,947, about the same as Croatia-Slavonia, whose per capita product in 2010 dollars was $1,897 and Transylvania ($1,956). Although it was about the poorest region within Austria, it still had about 2/3 the GRP of Austria itself ($3,005).

In contrast, it was higher than that of Portugal ($1,789), Bulgaria ($1,670), Greece ($1,550), Russia ($1,550), and Serbia ($1,295).

One of my grandparents arrived from Kharkiv in 1939, while Lviv poor by Western standards it was still a prosperous wonderland compared to Soviet cities of that time.

    hasn’t contributed much culturally

Ukraine’s second most notable Ukrainian-language author, Ivan Franko, was from Galicia. In terms of those writing in a foreign language, after Gogol probably the most internationally known writer from Ukraine was Sacher-Masoch, if only because we got the term “masochism” from his name. His mother was a Ruthenian noblewoman who married an Austrian.

while the architecture dates from the Austrian era

It’s going to date from some era. A Ukrainian architect, Sylwestr Hawryszkewycz, was one of the three who build the massive regional government palace in the 1870s:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_House,_Lviv#/media/File:Government_House_in_Lviv.jpg

Hawryszkewycz also designed the Ukrainian National Home in the city center, and various Greek Catholic Churches in the city such as this one in the center:

    https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerkiew_Przemienienia_Pa%C5%84skiego_we_Lwowie#/media/File:Church_of_Transfiguration,_Lviv_(05).jpg

From the 19th century until Soviet rule Ukrainian nationalists were based in the Lubomirsky Palace on the central Market Square.

  305. You also have a very distorted and negative picture of Romanians that is about 20 years out of date. 306. The vast majority of Ukrainian immigrants to North America came from Galicia, right? That suggests some
degree of desperation. Only Jews came in large numbers from the Russian administered areas I believe

  307. songbird says

The thing with Hollywood is that kids see it, and girls see it. I think it creates a culture more than porn does. I even remember being in elementary school and certain kids were talking about sex. I imagine they didn’t actually have it, or had ever actually seen porn, but some of the shows they watched certainly had it. Even shows that were purportedly family shows, like “Who’s the Boss?” This was before the internet was widespread. The culture has gotten much worse since then.

I forgot to mention that another part of the proposal was to tax all movies and shows with single or divorced mothers. Or at least anything that seems to glamorize it.

Don’t get me wrong, I think porn is often a bad influence. People spend way too much time watching it or collecting it, but I think of it kind of it like a secondary problem. Secondary to the life problems which people develop and grow to feel hopeless about or otherwise try to avoid solving.

Japan has its porn problems, and other significant fertility problems (maybe related to porn?), but I don’t think their culture is as rotten as the US’s. I can’t find any relevant statistics for single motherhood, but Japan doesn’t seem to appear on any lists, where it is a big problem.

I’m not a Japan expert, but I think the mainstream TV culture doesn’t trivialize sex or promote single motherhood to the same degree. In Japan, you might see a male cartoon character get a nosebleed when the wind blows the skirt of a teenage girl up. It may be prurient, but, at the same time, it is almost satirical. I don’t think the actual act is as often implied on TV, or that single motherhood is as glamorized.

Of course, the Japanese are a different people and that may count for something.

  308. The vast majority of Ukrainian immigrants to North America came from Galicia, right? That suggests some degree of desperation

There were lots of immigrants from Germany, Sweden, Italy, etc. and these places were much wealthier than Ukraine or Russia.

Only Jews came in large numbers from the Russian administered areas I believe

This was about ease of access. It was easier to leave from Austria-Hungary than from Russia. Most Poles in America also came from Austria:

    http://culture.polishsite.us/articles/art41fr.htm

Today, it is much easier for, say Poles to move to Germany or Britain than for Russians to do so. There are many more Poles than Russians in Germany or Britain. This doesn’t mean that Poland is poorer than Russia.

I can’t find any relevant statistics for single motherhood, but Japan doesn’t seem to appear on any lists, where it is a big problem.

It’s very stigmatised in Japan, being born out of wedlock even shows up on one’s family registry (koseki), so you will never ever forget it.

Japanese family laws generally are based on a pre-DNA test mindset, so even if the father is willing to acknowledge his paternity he will not be acknowledged by the state as the child’s father if he is not married to the mother.

This leads to frequent “accidental marriages’ (dekichatta kekkon) and in pop culture one can see that the characters put a certain focus on making sure their partners ‘take responsibility’.

Despite the general loosening of family ties in developed countries, Japan is nevertheless an East Asian race-nation and it shows in various aspects.

Of course, the Japanese are a different people and that may count for something.

Due to cultural differences other countries do not always neatly fit a box of ‘reactionary’ or ‘libertine’, but rather are a mixture of both.

The Japanese arcane sexuality goes back a long way and present even when Japan was growing by several hundreds of thousands per year, so I don’t think it has much relation to present-day fertility woes.

  310. Why does every post have to be an argument? Did you see an argument in that post? Just take it for what it is: another way of looking at the world…

  311. If Europe is counted together, the subcontinent should be too.

Perhaps East Asia should be counted together too then? Go ahead do it.

That was just one way of looking at the world. I was looking at billion plus entities so India and China are automatically in, while the others potentially are.

  312. Did you see an argument in that post?

No. That’s why I asked. I should have used point instead of argument. So your point is look at the world as it might be? And that would be pure or diverse?

  313. If all the full blooded Europeans settled in the Americas, Oceania, Siberia, Africa went back to Europe

Highly unlikely that would happen though. Far more likely scenario is this: the three main european majority zones (Anglosphere, Europe and Russia) merge together into a billion plus entity occupying roughly 20 million sq mi of land. That’s more land than Subsaharan Africa, India and the Muslim majority nations combined, for about 1/4 the population.

  314. songbird says

Perhaps East Asia should be counted together too then?

I think there are bigger clines involved. That is, depending on your definition, whether you’d count the SE. Vietnam seems the only place remotely analogous – and there’s probably a gap there. Beyond that – by the normal American definition – the political situation seems to make a Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Mongolian alliance somewhat unlikely, although I am secretly rooting for a Korean/Japanese one and think one is likely on a longer time frame.

They better be careful, it doesn’t turn into an Asian EU though. The worst are often drawn to power.

  315. songbird says

    That’s a good analysis.

I think the Japanese can bounce back, as long as they stay disciplined. I just hope the Chinese also do, and if Korea reunifies, that it is not on the German model.

  316. So your point is look at the world as it might be? And that would be pure or diverse?

The Muslim World is as diverse as it gets. Their concept of “purity” comes from religion, not race or local culture. It is not too hard to imagine a Caliphate that unites all Muslim nations. But it is the least likely scenario.

An African Union is a possibility. As is a re-imagined European Union that includes Russia. China and India are already nation states.

  317. Within e.g. Italy, the huge majority of immigrants came from the impoverished south. But I hadn’t considered logistics factors, much easier to take a train to bustling Trieste and disembark from there than to somehow get to Sebastopol or Odessa and idk what liners would’ve been servicing their ports

  318. Within Poland the former Russian parts have a reputation of historically being the poorest and least developed – but most Polish immigrants to the USA came from the German and Austrian parts.

Volhynia (former Russia) was annexed by Poland in 1921. It was much poorer and less developed than Galicia. Galician activists traveling there felt like they were going to Africa. Only after Poland annexed Volhynia did Volhynians start emigrating West, but by then there were restrictions in the USA, for example.

But I hadn’t considered logistics factors, much easier to take a train to bustling Trieste and disembark from there than to somehow get to Sebastopol or Odessa and idk what liners would’ve been servicing their ports

1.Polish administrators in Galicia were eager to see Ukrainians leave and very helpful.

    1. Russia was also offering lots of free land in the far east and Siberia.

That’s more land than Subsaharan Africa, India and the Muslim majority nations combined, for about 1/4 the population.

But much of it almost uninhabitable due to climate. That includes most of Russia and Canada, Alaska, much of Sweden, etc.

  320. The thing with Hollywood is that kids see it, and girls see it. I think it creates a culture more than porn does.

    Followed by…

The culture has gotten much worse since then.

This is exactly my point – on-demand, easy access porn is pushing the culture in a specific direction – it will continue to get worse. We need to draw a line in the sand is what I’m getting at.

I screen the movies my kids are going to watch by going to certain sites to read what parental warnings there are; usually these are quite good on details so there will be no surprises. PG-13 movies have been slowly but surely creeping in one direction since earlier times.

I don’t know about Japan enough to draw conclusions but their history and culture are quite different from the West being post-Christian so I’m not sure what works in one place can work in another. Of course they have some really crazy stuff going on in that department, but I have no clue if this is an accurate representation or not:

  321. Ukraine’s major cities are full of sex tourists, and it’s a real growing problem. In addition to exporting its women, the country is now a destination for sleazy sex tourists from all over the world. You can hardly walk down Khreschatyk without seeing groups of Turks looking for sex. Budget airlines like Ryanair will just make it easier for every Ahmed and Ali to fly over on the weekend. It’s really a tragic situation, and Ukrainian nationalists should be focusing on these creeps instead of attacking gypsy caravans.

LatW is correct that the sex-tourism plague was already there in Yanukovich’s time, though. It’s gotten worse now, but globalization and budget airlines have more to do with that. Never mind “Eurabia”, it’s Ukraine that is well on its way to becoming Europe’s Bangkok.

  322. As despicable as FEMEN are, their “Ukraine is not a brothel” meme should resonate with conservative Eastern Europeans too (it’s not limited to Ukraine, see the film “Slovenian Girl”).

  323. FEMEN is doing what “right-wing nationalists” should be doing. The right-wing couldn’t care less, it seems.

You could probably write essays about why sex-trafficking and exploitation of women have become “feminist issues” in modern times. Feminism’s cultural dominance probably has a lot to do with this – you can no longer express moral outrage at sexual exploitation in the traditional way, so the only possible frame is the feminist one. In reality, traditional patriarchy isn’t the cause but the solution to this problem, but modern feminist morality can’t express it that way, even if the same instinct is there.

  324. songbird says

I screen the movies my kids are going to watch by going to certain sites to read what parental warnings there are; usually these are quite good on details so there will be no surprises.

I think this is a really good idea for economic reasons. Catholics once exerted pressure successfully on Hollywood, for a number of years. People need to stop going to bad movies and support good ones.

Though having said that, I think development is partly political and so partly inherited. Having an older brother, I was exposed to horror movies when I was like 5. It did not seem to affect my morals or language. One of my acquaintances had his entertainment limited by movie rating. No R movies at a young age. He is just naturally leftwing, as I think his parents were. He has nothing I’d consider to be traditional morality, nor his sister, though I do have tough standards.

Another fellow I know had his TV limited to a half an hour per week. Pretty leftwing – and he lives in Hungary, a more traditional country. He has dreadlocks!

  325. A lot of hippy types also avoid TV since they too consider it brainwashing, but in a different way. TV aside, the rest of morality usually depends on what constitutes the rest of what you were raised with.

And of course, people also change when they grow older – I know plenty of people who were left-wing types growing up, but are now traditional.

    Peace.

  326. Influential Russians clearly hold similar views about Ukraine’s importance

No, they do not. Nobody of any importance in the Russian government has any interest in the Ukraine beyond keeping NATO out of it. Possibly they will realise at some point that this can’t be done without taking control of it themselves.

Let me spell it out for you: Poles believe the the Ukraine is the sine qua non of Russian power because it’s a comforting thought for them (they held it in the past and it’s under western influence now), and dumb people (Poles) eagerly seize upon comforting delusions.

Also Brzezinski set the bear trap in Afghanistan

VE POLES VUN ZE COLD VAR

Fascinating. Sometimes one can’t tell Polacks from regular American swine-rightists because they believe so many of the same silly myths.

Poland is doing quite well for itself

It’s almost exactly where it was in the 1920s – a minor country of deluded blockheads that has convinced itself it is a major power again. It has managed to antagonise both Germany and Russia, and as an added sweetener has managed to put itself offside with Israel as well.

And if you’re a regular UNZ reader you’re probably well aware of Poland’s woefully low TFR, so no, Poland isn’t ‘doing quite well for itself’, is it?

  327. You can hardly walk down Khreschatyk without seeing groups of Turks looking for sex.

I was there last summer and didn’t see a single one, LOL.

  328. Here is Khrashchatyk in 2017:

Lots of people, no apparent sex tourists.

The Roosh guy complained that Ukrainian women weren’t easy enough for him.

Budget airlines like Ryanair will just make it easier for every Ahmed and Ali to fly over on the weekend. It’s really a tragic situation, and Ukrainian nationalists should be focusing on these creeps instead of attacking gypsy caravans.

If it’s a problem they probably will. But it’s not a phenomenon there.

Here is a list of countries for that:

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/oyster/the-most-popular-countrie_b_8067520.html

In Europe, there are the Netherlands and Spain. Ukraine not on the list.

  329. Well, at least Netherlands and Spain didn’t have to worry about this madness:
“Danish lawmakers have approved a motion to ban bestiality in a bid to combat animal-sex tourism.”
    https://www.icenews.is/2015/04/29/denmark-to-clamp-down-on-animal-sex-tourism/

    Yikes!

Anybody know if this is still the case? (from above article):
“The only EU nations where bestiality remains legal are now Finland, Romania and Hungary.”

    Peace.

In an extreme case of sorts, a friend of mine impregnated a shrine maiden who was his cousin because he thought it was cool to have sex with a shrine maiden. Out of responsibility, he married her though he did not seem to really want it. We made him of his for cousin marriage for a long time.

  331. That last sentence is key to your point and I have no clue what you’re saying, bro.

We made fun of him, sorry. My phone acts weird sometimes.

  333. I am Albertan. I have been a separatist for two decades. Ideally, I would love to live under the US Constitution. Convincing people to separate is one thing, but convincing Albertan’s that joining the US would be in our economic best interests would be more difficult. I don’t care about the rest of Canada, a whole lot, either way….except the bloody French.

  334. And they call them “smart phones” … whatever.
