I have long been of the opinion that the only real countries are the playable ones from the Civilization video game series (and DLCs don’t count!).
So I am liking Thorfinnsson’s sizzlingly powerful idea of Trump annexing Canada more and more.
They’re anti-American and constantly inventing dubious reasons as to why Canada is allegedly better than America, most of which relate to being even more pozzed than we are.
Prior to Lester Pearson (inventor of the current Canadian flag) and especially Pierre Trudeau (yes, Justin’s father, and founding father of Canadian multiculturalism) Canada had more of a British identity comparable to what still exists in Australia and New Zealand. Many of Canada’s early Anglo settlers in fact were Americans who supported the King and got deported as a result.
So Canada for instance had a tradition of “Northern” literature and film to compare with our “Westerns” which made the point that on the Canadian frontier, even in the Klondike country, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was in control and keeping the Queen’s peace–unlike America’s lawless Wild West. Canadians stressed, “Peace, Order, and Good Government” as opposed to America’s “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”.
Canada got dominion status in 1867, and that plus their enormous sacrifices in World War One became the basis of their own patriotism. Canadian troops were, along with Australians, considered the elite shock troops of the British Empire on the Western Front. Canada’s losses in WWI were in population terms about half of what Russia’s were as an example.
Now that’s all gone. The link to Britain was severed when Britain joined the Common Market, and the British identity buried by Trudeau’s multiculturalism. All that’s left is anti-Americanism and being pozzed SJW faggots. Canadians will seriously assert with a straight face that they love their country because of…healthcare.
The benefits are legion. Annexation of English Canada (Quebec should be an independent protectorate) include:

When I was in Romania, I casually asked a Canadian in our group what they would do if the Americans conquered them (the peaks of autism I go to for the sake of our community!). He said they’d be sullen about it, but would gradually accept their fate as Americans after a couple of generations – assuming the US manages to keep Canada for that long. I don’t know about you, but an n=1 sample is good enough for me, at least on this particular question. It seems to me that a 35 million increase in high-quality people, complete self-sufficiency in oil, and a doubling of territory (including many resources and access to the Arctic in a warming world) is worth a few acts of petty sabotage from a few overly “svidomy” Canadians.

I think you could easily absorb Austria in a dangerous world (where size of the country matters a great deal), but Switzerland would be tough. They speak a practically different language, and have a very strong identity. They also don’t like Germans much. Though to be honest, they don’t really like anyone. Perhaps the Italians. Informally, a lot of the practical benefits listed above already exist. In terms of geopolitics, Canada is already a part of the US and generally follows US foreign policy. It’s a better idea because it would re-teach people what Common Markets are, and re-educate people that there is a happy in-between the extremes of protectionism and free trade – both of which are one or another way to screw over giant classes of people.
Common Markets mean the Canadian passport is good for a job in US territory, and vice-versa, that capital flows as freely between Oklahoma and Alberta as between Minnesota and Illinois, but both local and national governments remain autonomous and currency usually remains separate.
A corollary benefit is they have educational value of demonstrating that “free trade” is a specific kind of raw deal that privileges people whose capital is internationalized … and that’s not 99.9% of people, so it’s a raw deal especially compared to a Common Market.
My intuition is that if a Common Market looked likely, the 0.01% would move for annexation or full integration because that educational benefit is a benefit they can’t tolerate. They need you to believe there are only two – bad – alternatives.

You’d be surprised. There’s a major backlash coming against immigration and multiculturalism in Quebec, especially in the Quebec City area.

My wife is French-Canadian so I have some familiarity with Quebec; she traces her ancestry to one of the filles du roi sent to New France prior to their defeat in the Seven Years’ War.
While there remains French nationalism of some sort, its pretty much pitiful and at any rate, if they wanted to avoid the pozzing, independence would almost certainly be better off. However, this is not likely to happen as Quebec lacks the capability of surviving independently anymore; the major efforts at nationalism(which was very strong, and government policy) pre-Quiet Revolution showed the weakness of it: it could not stem flight of population even with actual violence being utilized. Since then, population TFR numbers have since crashed and millions of dollars in incentives were unable to reverse it. A serious nationalist group would try to learn from the mistakes from before and not be completely dependent on their enemies.
But, well, its pretty much LARPing at this point. The “far-right” groups more or less exist as modern-day witches so new witch-hunts can exist to further destroy the idea of any dissent.

As a Canadian, in my mind the only downside to annexation by America would be the surge in Blacks and Hispanics into any annexed territory.
Western Canada (Manitoba and west) is considerably more socially conservative than the rest of the country and has been alienated from the rest of the country for decades. Alberta has contributed disproportionately to the finances of the the country due to the redistribution, via “equalization”, to have-not provinces of the tax windfall that the federal government receives from Alberta’s high incomes (the highest in Canada).
Quebec has been a net beneficiary of equalization payments for decades and uses the prospect of a referendum and “sovereignty” as blackmail to ensure that it continues to put less into the country than the country pays out. Further, the Quebecois are the closest thing to a genuine people in North America (unity of ancestry, language, culture/religion, etc.) and definitely would not want to be part of the US (they see Anglo Canada as the vector of creeping Americanization and the English language as only suitable for ghettos).
Accordingly, if annexation were to occur, it should just be Western Canada that is incorporated (and Vancouver purged of its bugmen); Quebec can go its own way; and the GloboHomo core (Ontario) and its permanent dependencies (the Maritimes) can continue their “post-national” experiment of cohesion through Tim Hortons and hockey.
In the early 1970s, I was one of two USAF officers stationed at a Canadian military site slightly below the Arctic Circle. Some interesting nighttime conversation in the makeshift bar. This was the era that can perhaps be described as a high point in the movement for Quebec’s independence.

They were humiliated by the very idea that two American officers were assigned to a Canadian site and chartered to operate independently of the Canadian site commander. We had a separate chain-of-command going directly to USAF officers assigned to the Program Office in the United States.
The United States picked up the tabs for our site and numerous other sites strewn across the Canadian Arctic. Our job was to monitor the performance of the US contractors providing logistical and technical support across the Canadian Arctic, which included the operations and maintenance of a large number of runways and terminals that the Canadians were using to “open” the Canadian Arctic. By agreement, the contracts were staffed by Canadians.
The largesse from US taxpayers included paying over-the-edge salaries to the Canadian civilians. They were paid $4,000 a month … that’s $243,000 a year in current-year-money as calculated on the USG CPI online calculator.

Conclusions: It is hard for me to visualize Canada as an independent nation. They were and still are massively subsidized by the US Government and the US economy. Canada could not exist without that largesse. As with West Germany and Japan, uneven trade treaties have camouflaged most of those subsidies over the ages.
Trump wants to bring the troops home. This includes ending the massive and now politically irrelevant subsidies to Germany, Japan, and other countries that were historically “bought off” and kept in line as allies during the Cold War.
P.S. I have no idea how the new Nunavut Province for Canada’s “First Nations” would take the dissolution of Canada. I suspect that their sentiments would be governed by spreadsheets. Amerindians in the United States already have free medical care. Could casinos survive as part of a credible business model for the northern far reaches of the North American continent?
The only reasonable scenario I see for the US conquering Canada is if the world were already united against the US, and the US needed something from Canada that Canada refused to sell them, and that couldn’t be purchased through a third party and/or intermediary.
Why stop with the US annexing Canada? Using your same logic Karlin, why not have the US annex the whole world and the benefits would multiply even further afield. Why do you assume the British wouldn’t want to join? The monarchy is an irrelevance, as it is too invested in multiracialism. The problem with an Anglo-Saxon union (America, Canada, Britain, maybe Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) is the large ethnic populations these countries have foolishly taken on.
Canadian voters are overwhelmingly white, right? Once they are assimilated into the American system, they will be voting Republican like most white Americans do.
The solution would be to implement a long transitional period, giving enough time for the process of assimilation to complete, at the end of which Canadians will gain voting rights.
I favor a similar strategy for the Ukraine: occupy the country, drive Galicians into Poland right away, then spend a few decades weeding out svidomist ideology – should be fairly easy to do in the Southern and Eastern parts of the Ukraine. Once this is done, cleaned parts of the Ukraine can be safely annexed to Russia.

If people are talking about hypotheticals, how about creating a new article on the dismantling of the USA? My personal preference is to break it up in as small bits as possible, others would prefer say 4 or 5 parts (with the CSA being one of them). On a breakup one must also ask the question what should be done with Washington, my preference here is to reduce it to rubble and make sure it will never have people living there ever again, kind of like the Romans did to Carthage.

It did. USSR and China were enemies during the Cold War. In fact, USSR was closer to USA than to China. E.g., we fought a hot war with China, and Chinese products were banned. In contrast, we had cooperation with the USA, and American products were available.

America made a huge error drawing the Mexican border where it did. Rivers make bad borders. It should have made the border The Rio Grande river basin border and taken the Lower Californian peninsula and all the river draining into it. In 1917 ~70% of voters in Kiev, Poltava, Volhynia, and Podolia guberniyas voted for Ukrainian nationalist parties. There were no military units or famous ethnic Ukrainians/Little Russians individuals from these regions who were Russian patriots (Whites) during the Russian Civil War. So tsarism failed to assimilate the Little Russians after centuries. But you think, after Ukrainian identity has become even stronger, 21st century Russia can 🙂

I’m two generations removed and when I was 20 the USSR had recently ended and the place was a mess as a result of Sovok monkey mis-rule. And with my profession, salaries in Eastern Europe are very low. I did my original research decades ago, tried to reaffirm through Internet research before I posted, but could not find a reference. But even if wrong, the implication is the same.
Three years ago, my wife and I drove through Winnipeg and the wastes of Manitoba to go fishing near Flin Flon. Civilization, including the Internet and mobile phone services, disappeared a few miles north of Winnipeg. (Yes, we had purchased roaming to use our smartphones in Canada.)

One could send and receive texts from the “fishing resort/cabins”. However, that involved taking your car down the road and parking it on top of a hill. Periodic “hilltop check-ins” became part of our daily routine.
The co-owner of the small “fishing resort/cabins” where we stayed had a few interesting comments. They and many of their neighbors had homes in Winnipeg. That’s where they lived outside of fishing season. They also rented “boxes” south of the border where they picked up their Amazon and other online orders.

There was no “Poland” in the immediate aftermath of WW2. It was a puppet regime, set up by the occupying Soviet army. Entire Eastern Europe was a Soviet occupation zone, and it was Soviet Union that handled population transfers and deportations.
Nukes wouldn’t be necessary. But I’m describing a rather realistic scenario. The cities can be emptied of most of their population even before they are captured. Destroying key infrastructure will cause civilian panic and a mass exodus. If you think this cannot be done, this just shows complacency and lack of imagination on your part 😉

You are talking to myself as if I I have no understanding of classical music, when fact is
aside from being a jazz performer with over fifty years thereof behind me, I also studied classical flute performance in conservatory for four years, with an outstanding “Abschluss”,
having worked through the two Mozart flute concertos in G and D and bringing them to performance level. I also took on the Bach flute creations, and several modern classical composers starting with Debussy.
“Very original interpretations” : Gould’s interpretations are okay as “interpretations” , however without changing notes, which is absolutely tabu in the field of classical music, there is really not much originality which can be extracted out of a written-out composition complete with prescribed dynamics and tempos, rubato, etc.
The classical world, which is fully aware of it’s limitations and constrictions, incessantly attempts to conjure up some new kind of “originality” wich is simply not there. Bach wrote his sonatas to be recognized as that precisely which they are : Bach’s sonatas, period.

And what are we to make of the daring ‘Switched on Bach’ repertoire of Wendy Carlos? I’d say that the ‘limitations and constrictions’ that you reference are being transgressed all of the time (and in a very enjoyable manner!).

We see elderly Chinese people by the thousands in LA and other towns here, e.g. Alhambra to the northeast or Irvine to the south. Try speaking English to them and see how many can’t do it. That right there means that they didn’t work here, certainly not any legal job here, for the many years they would need to cover some of what they are costing us.
ps my personal experience was that Chinese in Vancouver-Richmond were not polite or pleasant, Filipinos ran the gamut and were on average warmer, usually less brusque or rude, and easier to relate to and speak with.

Civilized people remaining in both countries need to help each other preserve what is left, and restore what we can, of our traditional common culture and language. We should be bolstering tourism, trade, common religious and sporting activities, and especially student exchange programs specifically between EuroCanadians and EuroAmericans and the communities where we still live in numbers on both sides of the border.

Re Russian attitudes toward, meaning against, Ukraine, I have to agree with you for a change. They seem to have a real nasty, condescending-alternating-with-threatening approach to Ukrainians who think that Ukraine has and should have its own culture.
Still, it seems that it might be a better idea to let the far western oblasts join Poland, Slovakia, or Hungary, as the case may be, if they vote for it decisively in a referendum.
Likewise let more of Eastern and southern Ukraine join or return to Russia, including Luhansk, Donetsk, and Mariupol.
The bulk of the country’s population and land can then be independent Ukraine. It won’t have many people in it within a few decades, given how fast their population is dropping, but it can be independent. Whoever is left, perhaps 20 million people, can develop a Ukrainian language and culture more free from Russian influence or loyalties. Russia should respect that and stop being insulting and childish in their ad hominem against Ukrainians.
And an independent Ukraine that doesn’t pose a threat to Russia, IF it agrees never to join the EU, NATO or the like. However obnoxious Russian attitudes towards nonRussian Ukrainians can be, they can reasonably require that their volatile, declining neighbor ageee not to join organizations that will yield major US military forces right on Russia’s border.

Bach’s wonderful creations are only distorted and rendered inauthentic through the application of a so-called “Jazzy” treatment.
However I do enjoy the output of one Charlie Parker, and one Stan Getz, and Chet Baker and Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman, and Art Pepper, and Miles Davis, and Zoot Sims, and John Coltrane, and Bill Evans and on and on, (and my own output as well) as the list of superb authentic Jazz players is too long to post here.

As for the Western provinces going along with your prognosis, as they say LOL! Ukrainians by and large are content with the borders as they are, and don’t feel a need for any tweaking. Bach actually didn’t pen out many of the details. In part because at the time some things were customarily only played in certain ways and so he didn’t have to spell it out. And in part because he expected some improvisation from the players.
And even where they did mark all the details (like tempi or even volume), whenever they themselves performed their own works, they invariably deviated from their own notations. Beethoven was a notably free interpreter of his own works, and for example from Bartók even recordings exist where he disregarded his own tempo markings.
So it’s not obvious that there’s no leeway here.
I will admit that Filipinos are among the least worrisome of all possible non-white immigrants. They seem to be on the whole fairly law-abiding (unlike the Chinese), don’t seem to constantly demand special consideration, and are not determined to reorient Canadian institutions to the dysfunctional norms of their home societies (South Asians/Muslims).

This is common knowledge amongst classical trained musicians in Europe and therefore not even a point of discussion, as the art of improvisation had been one of the basis elements of the musicality of every legendary Baroque/Romance composer, whether Bach, Mozart, Teleman, Chopin, Schuman, Schubert, and on and on.
However the mistake in your viewpoint lies within your misunderstanding of Bach’s relationship to improvisation and the performance of his written out works : Bach was known as a great improvisor, however he did not compose his written works as a basis for improvisation, this being the error in your accessment of his music. His written out compositions were penned by him to be executed precisely as they were recorded on paper, without any incorporation of improvisation whatsoever, such as executed by loussier and co.

Another thing to note is that the Imperial (British/Canadian) liquid measures, while rarely used in Canada nowadays, are not the same as the customary (American) liquid measures. In the event that Canada does get annexed by the US, I guess there will be four options: (expect some backlash from each one.)

C. Canada reverts to the Imperial system. (liquid products would have to be labeled with both Imperial and customary measures. Anyone trying to discuss liquid measures will have to give the correct context at the risk of confusing the other person.)
D. The US switches to metric. (This is about America annexing Canada, not the other way around. Regardless, this would not work because the population of Anglophone Canada is nearly a tenth of that of the US; it’s easier to educate a population of 30M than a population of 300M. It’d still be too late anyway*.)
*Side note: I recall reading once that, sometime in the 1790s, Thomas Jefferson requested a copy of the meter and kilogram to be shipped from France with the intent of switching to metric, but the plan failed when the sailor was captured and killed by British pirates. I’m not trying to debate whether America should (continue to) switch; I’m just pointing out that attempts for America to go metric didn’t start with Carter.
As much as I’m ambivalent to the prospect of Canada getting annexed by the US, however, there are a lot of differences between their cultures that will take a lot of effort ironing out. A few examples:
* Spelling is different (obviously).
* From the makers of Nutella, Kinder Surprise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinder_Surprise), a brand of chocolate eggs with toys inside, is legal in Canada, but illegal in the USA.
* There are certain food products in Canada that you can’t get in the US, and vice-versa. (One example is Smarties: in the US, they’re tablet candies made of dextrose (called “Rockets” in Canada), while in Canada and the rest of the world, they’re sugar-coated chocolates similar to M&M’s.)
* The legal drinking age is 21 in the US, while in Canada, it ranges from 18 to 19 depending on the province/territory.
The last time I visited Canada, two of the things that I didn’t like were:
1) the lack of proper GMO labels on the packaging of some food products (I’m not against GMOs), and
2) the lack of proper food dye differentiation (instead of listing each dye one by one, they just simply write “colour (contains tartrazine)”.)
I doubt many of you would give a hoot about, let alone approve of, any of these, so YMMV on that one.
Not sure about the coins, but with regards to the banknotes/bills, many of us are aware that Canadian banknotes, unlike American banknotes, have bolder colors (like Monopoly money) and are made of polymer. I can understand the aversion to polymer notes; while they’re certainly waterproof (if not more robust), they can easily slip off your pocket.

Nobody in Western Ukraine, with the exception of maybe some small groups, wants to secede from Ukraine – it is absurd to claim that Western Ukrainians want to join Poland or the tiny Slovakia. There are some young, strong Ukrainian nationalists in Ternopil (in better shape than most Western dudes) and if they heard what you said they would have thrown you out of there like a filthy rag! Nobody in Poland, with the exception of marginal far right groups, even wants to “annex” parts of Ukraine. If they did – let them try, they’d get their asses kicked. The relationship between Ukrainians and Poles is characterized by moderate friendliness, some mutual interest and some historic tension – yes, some of it is unpleasant, but that’s how it goes with large Slavic nations, it’s normal.
You can forget about Mariupil – it is not going anywhere without a blood shed. Azov is stationed there, a large part of the city is pro-Ukrainian, the mayor is pro-Ukrainian and an important Donbas industrialist, Serhiy Taruta, who is from there, is also pro-Ukrainian.
Also, I hope that you are aware that not all Russians want to accept Donbas. There are even audio clips of Russian soldiers who were about to be sent to Ukraine in 2015 talking on the phone who told their moms that they don’t want to go there, that they’d want to fight for the Rodina (the Motherland, meaning Russia) but not for some “sh*thole Luhansk” (real quote). On Russian talk shows there are plenty of individuals who, if otherwise considered “patriotic”, still don’t want to pay for Donbas. There is simply no unanimous opinion about it in Russia! And as to the Kremlin – we see how they’re operating.
In fact, Donbas itself hasn’t made up its mind about what it wants. So far, what is clear is that they just don’t want to be under the “hunta” and don’t want NATO (understandable since it would be unnatural to push NATO on that demographic). And above all I hope you do know that there is an ethnic Ukrainian population in the east as well.

What threat – who is on whose internationally recognized territory? Are the Ukrainians killing people in Kuban? Ukraine has the right to arm and defend itself, just like any other country. You want to defend your society, so do the Ukrainians. They are surrounded. Very, very serious and difficult to operate Russian artillery at work there. The kind that Western armies haven’t faced. In fact, from the ethical point of view – Ukraine has the right to tell both Russia and the US to take a hike and return to the Budapest format and simply try to develop a nuke. Kharkiv might still have a good enough institute for that.
First of all, that will be for the Ukrainian population to decide. No, feel free to petition the State Department to reduce its staff in Ukraine by 2/3s. I’d like to see them willingly do that. Second, the West, in its current form, is not eternal (so don’t overestimate the importance of NATO). Third, Ukraine never wanted to be part of NATO. Still to this day, after all the violence, as far as I know, only 40% of Ukrainians are pro-NATO membership. Or it is some other, not very high number. As recent as 2010 (or even as late as right before the war), the Ukrainian nationalists supported and welcomed an all Eastern European confederation including Russia. Or an Eastern Slavic confederation with Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. Confederation does not equal one state or federation. All they wanted was to be left alone to celebrate their heroes as they pleased in their own country and to promote the Ukrainian language within their own historic ethnic lands that were already largely bilingual as many people in Donbas understand Ukrainian (btw, did you know that Kuban, RF, is also ethnically largely Ukrainian?) and not to have a lukewarm yo-yo government that tries to please everyone but is not protecting Ukraine enough from outside influences. You mentioned the negative effects of Westernization – you do realize that Ukraine was exposed to those already since 1991, having the negatives but not the positives (such as access to the EU export markets) and that even under Yanukovich Ukraine was not protected from Western vultures, such as sex tourists and the like, who should never had been given access to the Ukrainian population (I can’t believe people like Roosh could freely walk around there for so long)? In fact, the newly founded Druzhina should do something about it (being the first militia that is actually willing and capable of doing something about it) – foreigners, especially hostile ones, should not be allowed to snoop around Ukraine looking for access to their women.
The Ukrainian nationalists have never wanted to be part of NATO and they are still quite critical of this idea. They just want a stronger military, economic protectionism and an all Eastern European bloc.

I do miss the special relationship between functional countries which the US once enjoyed with Canada. If I recall, you needed only a driver’s license or a copy of your baptism certificate to cross the border, and that was mostly as a formality. You were usually waved through.

Actually, who I had in mind was Ruslan Ostashko, a Russian opinion maker who was born in Donetsk and has been doing some reporting from there. He often appears on a talk show called Mesto Vstrechi, and, if I remember correctly, about a year ago, he said that Donbas shouldn’t be incorporated and that Donbas would be able to help itself, if it received some business from Russia (but the problem is that many companies are still in competition with their Russian counterparts). Anyway, my point was that things are not as black and white as some like to paint them.
Of course, the situation is severe. But at least the nationalists, who under Yanukovich were political prisoners, are now free. The national Druzhina is well poised to take care of some long standing problems (alcohol and drug tochkas, for instance). They could deal with the sex tourists, as well – the beautiful thing is that they don’t have to do anything, the brothers could just show up (in their full attire – they even have grey (city) camouflage), act confident as they usually do, and the sex tourists would scurry away like Gypsies from a burning caravan. The total area of Europe (including european Russia) is ~4 million sq mi. And it’s white population is ~700 million. If all the full blooded Europeans settled in the Americas, Oceania, Siberia, Africa went back to Europe it’s population would increase to ~1200 million.

However, I’m not sure if that’s very valuable to Russia. For example Bulgaria also has very positive feelings towards Russia, but it joined a coalition led by Russia’s enemies. Hungary is just slightly hostile to Russia, but it’s part of the same coalition. As is the highly hostile Poland. So does it matter that much?
I don’t think Russians are wise to keep insulting Ukrainians or to fantasize about occupying Ukraine (which would create the problem of a disloyal population, and probably wouldn’t be done by any half sane Russian government anyway), but I can understand if they think that preventing NATO bases in the Crimea was worth Ukrainian hostility.

Prior to Soviet rule Galicia was richer.
In 1890 the per capita product, in 2010 dollars, for Galicia was $1,947, about the same as Croatia-Slavonia, whose per capita product in 2010 dollars was $1,897 and Transylvania ($1,956). The thing with Hollywood is that kids see it, and girls see it. I think it creates a culture more than porn does. I even remember being in elementary school and certain kids were talking about sex. I imagine they didn’t actually have it, or had ever actually seen porn, but some of the shows they watched certainly had it. Even shows that were purportedly family shows, like “Who’s the Boss?” This was before the internet was widespread. The culture has gotten much worse since then.
I forgot to mention that another part of the proposal was to tax all movies and shows with single or divorced mothers. Or at least anything that seems to glamorize it.
Don’t get me wrong, I think porn is often a bad influence. People spend way too much time watching it or collecting it, but I think of it kind of it like a secondary problem. Secondary to the life problems which people develop and grow to feel hopeless about or otherwise try to avoid solving.
Japan has its porn problems, and other significant fertility problems (maybe related to porn?), but I don’t think their culture is as rotten as the US’s. I can’t find any relevant statistics for single motherhood, but Japan doesn’t seem to appear on any lists, where it is a big problem.
I’m not a Japan expert, but I think the mainstream TV culture doesn’t trivialize sex or promote single motherhood to the same degree. In Japan, you might see a male cartoon character get a nosebleed when the wind blows the skirt of a teenage girl up. It may be prurient, but, at the same time, it is almost satirical. I don’t think the actual act is as often implied on TV, or that single motherhood is as glamorized.

Highly unlikely that would happen though. Far more likely scenario is this: the three main european majority zones (Anglosphere, Europe and Russia) merge together into a billion plus entity occupying roughly 20 million sq mi of land. That’s more land than Subsaharan Africa, India and the Muslim majority nations combined, for about 1/4 the population.
I think there are bigger clines involved. That is, depending on your definition, whether you’d count the SE. Vietnam seems the only place remotely analogous – and there’s probably a gap there. Beyond that – by the normal American definition – the political situation seems to make a Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Mongolian alliance somewhat unlikely, although I am secretly rooting for a Korean/Japanese one and think one is likely on a longer time frame.
They better be careful, it doesn’t turn into an Asian EU though. The worst are often drawn to power.

The Muslim World is as diverse as it gets. Their concept of “purity” comes from religion, not race or local culture. It is not too hard to imagine a Caliphate that unites all Muslim nations. But it is the least likely scenario.

Within Poland the former Russian parts have a reputation of historically being the poorest and least developed – but most Polish immigrants to the USA came from the German and Austrian parts.
Volhynia (former Russia) was annexed by Poland in 1921. It was much poorer and less developed than Galicia. Galician activists traveling there felt like they were going to Africa. Only after Poland annexed Volhynia did Volhynians start emigrating West, but by then there were restrictions in the USA, for example.

Ukraine’s major cities are full of sex tourists, and it’s a real growing problem. In addition to exporting its women, the country is now a destination for sleazy sex tourists from all over the world. You can hardly walk down Khreschatyk without seeing groups of Turks looking for sex. Budget airlines like Ryanair will just make it easier for every Ahmed and Ali to fly over on the weekend. It’s really a tragic situation, and Ukrainian nationalists should be focusing on these creeps instead of attacking gypsy caravans.
LatW is correct that the sex-tourism plague was already there in Yanukovich’s time, though. It’s gotten worse now, but globalization and budget airlines have more to do with that. Never mind “Eurabia”, it’s Ukraine that is well on its way to becoming Europe’s Bangkok.

You could probably write essays about why sex-trafficking and exploitation of women have become “feminist issues” in modern times. Feminism’s cultural dominance probably has a lot to do with this – you can no longer express moral outrage at sexual exploitation in the traditional way, so the only possible frame is the feminist one. In reality, traditional patriarchy isn’t the cause but the solution to this problem, but modern feminist morality can’t express it that way, even if the same instinct is there.
I think this is a really good idea for economic reasons. Catholics once exerted pressure successfully on Hollywood, for a number of years. People need to stop going to bad movies and support good ones.
Though having said that, I think development is partly political and so partly inherited. Having an older brother, I was exposed to horror movies when I was like 5. It did not seem to affect my morals or language. One of my acquaintances had his entertainment limited by movie rating. No R movies at a young age. He is just naturally leftwing, as I think his parents were. He has nothing I’d consider to be traditional morality, nor his sister, though I do have tough standards.
Another fellow I know had his TV limited to a half an hour per week. Pretty leftwing – and he lives in Hungary, a more traditional country. He has dreadlocks!
A lot of hippy types also avoid TV since they too consider it brainwashing, but in a different way. TV aside, the rest of morality usually depends on what constitutes the rest of what you were raised with.
And of course, people also change when they grow older – I know plenty of people who were left-wing types growing up, but are now traditional.
