What Will Happen to “Wokeism” After Bad Orange Man Goes?

Well we might already have an answer to that (h/t A New Radical Centrism):

In fairness, this isn’t a 100% done deal, as he continues:

The document appears to have been prepared by The Glover Park Group, a consulting firm headquartered in Washington DC, founded by former White House and Democratic campaign officials.

I was just told that the above document was leaked yesterday by GPG (which is now working closely with the Biden campaign), and that a GPG exec is likely one of the unnamed sources interviewed in the WaPo article claiming Biden will revoke and sign a “flurry” of EOs on day one.

So, I’m thinking there are three possibilities:

(1) The doc reflects Biden’s intentions;

(2) The doc is part of a disinformation campaign intended to put the GOP on its heels, to be used in early informal negotiations on a range of issues;

(3) A combination of both of above.

Even so, prospects aren’t looking good.

Large numbers of the “intellectual” Dissident Right (with the notable exception of James Lindsay) ended up backing either Biden or at least neutrality, in the hope (cope?) that “at least Biden isn’t woke” and that he might usher in “a new era” of “civility” and “politeness.”

But it’s not looking that it will work out like that.

Then again, Trump is the kind of person who is too feckless to even get a legal team together for the contingency of disputing the election (despite repeatedly claiming the Dems would try to rig it). So its also far from obvious that his anti-CRT executive order would have made any significant headway regardless.

My prediction is that things will likely grow much worse much faster than people think. I’ve been calling it The Great ReeAwokening in conversations with friends. Basically, the concept rests on the realization that human behavior is, in part, only checked by the threat of reciprocal action by countervailing forces in society — social shame, the authorities, etc. A derivative of this during the Cold War was MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction). The Soviets and the Americas avoided war because each had the ability to strike back, inflicting devastating casualties. After the Soviet Union collapsed, the Americans became much more expansive once the threat of retaliation was removed (or the need to impress vassals with diplomacy and principles).

Democratic government works in a similar manner. Factions within the current government behave themselves because they fear the other side might win one day and retaliate against them. However, what happens when one faction realizes that it faces no threat of retaliation against a hated enemy? Well, in that case there is no incentive to not be despotic. Who’s going to punish you if you indulge your base instincts against a hated foe if that foe is powerless to retaliate? See: The Stanford prison experiment. We already have AOC and company preparing hit lists of dissidents, including judges. I don’t think that impulse can be restrained forever.

The ineptness of Donald Trump and the impotence of the conservative right to mount any kind of serious pushback against the left over the last four years has convinced them they can get away with practically anything. We see this in their increasing boldness. They regularly censor the President of the United States when he says things challenging their narrative; network television cut away from him when he started claiming voter fraud in one of his pressers; Twitter regularly censors him now and has put out feelers for banning him after the election (their CEO noticeably yawned in his recent congressional testimony, and he looked like he could care less about the proceeding); they banned coverage of Hunter Biden’s laptop on Twitter, including locking the account of The New York Post, a shameful act of totalitarianism, while they previously allowed the NYT to report on Trump’s illegally leaked taxes.

Elsewhere in the culture, Hollywood shows absolutely no signs of abandoning wokeness, despite its unpopularity (non-binary superheroes, overweight women comic book characters, black versions of Star Trek). We even have Hollywood companies trying to insert themselves into the Japanese anime market so they can co-opt it for their woke messaging. This trash has tanked Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghostbusters and countless other franchises … yet they won’t stop with it. Why?

The reason for this is obvious: they see the writing on the wall, and they want to get on the good side of the new boss in town. In order to curry favor with the regime, you must prove your loyalty. Thus, the promotion of woke propaganda throughout society by those who wish to get ahead. White males, heavily discriminated against, are incentivized to push the narrative if they want to get promoted against minority competition. Sure, Disney makes less money from wokeness, but since the feds let them have a monopoly, they are profitable. So, it doesn’t matter. White male corporate guy who promoted black female James Bond or non-binary black female lesbian Superman gets cred to put on his resume. Profit motive and serving audiences outside the narrative is increasingly disincentivized, especially in a market that allows Netflix to rack up an enormous $30 – 40 billion debt load before it becomes a problem.

This partly explains the rash of hateful racist movies made by White guys during the Obama years: “See, I’m on the right side of history … please don’t hurt me or take away my things or tell the public that I’m bad. I’m loyal I tell you!”

With checks and incentives to behave themselves removed, the left is no longer restrained in their actions. With the entertainment industry, individuals are actually incentivized to not be conciliatory towards the other side if they want to get ahead themselves, especially if they are White male (this could be the reason some White guys switched to the other side in the last election … do they see the writing on the wall and are maybe trying to get out of the way?). The left will soon control every branch of government permanently due to demographics, including myriad police and finance agencies.

Do you want to get your movie financed? Show me your BLM support. Do you want to get the next big job? Show me where you support “diversity.” On many college admissions applications, they already subtly discriminate against Whites by asking them how they’ll support diversity on campus by their admission (translation: either be a minority or prove how you’ve been supporting the woke narrative).

Historically, the left has used these mechanisms of government and media against their enemies. JFK worked to enact a scam with the help of the IRS and FCC, detailed in the book The Radio Right, to ban his political enemies from having a voice on radio; they successfully shut down hundreds of radio stations using the government. During the Obama years, when everyone thought there would never be another republican president, the IRS was targeting conservative groups for audits and punishment. There are other examples. I see no reason why the left won’t be tempted to continue that tradition in a society in which there are no consequences for their actions and after they’ve so heavily dehumanized their opposition as evil to be destroyed.

If American conservatives wish to avoid this fate, they may want to consider a national breakup. But even here they’ve proved inept. Whenever the subject is brought up, they either ignore it or they shout it down with platitudes and poorly reasoned arguments. That demographic is simply hopeless, and it has emboldened the left. With the threat of secession through well-organized state opposition, the left might be pressured to cool their rhetoric, even if it never happens — restoring checks on the left’s behavior through the threat of retaliatory action (lowering the left’s living standards by destroying the USD as a reserve currency, etc.). But the right can’t even manage that.

Ultimately, the left is going to win and the USSA is going to become a very dangerous place for dissidents, perhaps sooner than people think. The left smells blood in the water now.

  6. What we have is a Restoration. It happened a few times before, including after French Revolution, and it never worked. We will be put to sleep and world will be fed silly bromides while the dysfunctional collapse continues.

Woke morons will accelerate their wokeness as fanatics on a sinking ship always do. But that is just distracting entertainment. The underlying reality is that society and economy as it is currently constituted in the West cannot function. The fatal issue is that a large percentage of working age males (mostly white) have no economic role and no way to start and support families. That is very destabilising and the rolling pyramid scheme of endless migrants (and womyn breaking the ‘ceiling‘) is bound to collapse.

Let’s enjoy the show. Maybe next time there will be a Trump who is more than just a talker and entertainer. The political opening in that ‘populist‘ space is gigantic, literally unbeatable with any sane, adult candidate. And nature abhors a vacuum.

  7. Either it will subside because there’s no longer TDS or accelerate to ridiculous, even genocidal levels.

As for the Dissident Right, I think it’s finally the time to stop with the intellectualism. This is no longer the era where you can appeal to people with reason and logic and whatever mumbo jumbo, but simply with pure manipulation and demagoguery.

  8. Back in the 1970s, Leftist terrorist groups did a lot of damage to big corporations. Billions of dollars worth. Are the costs of going woke less or more? Probably more, ultimately, but the short-term incentives are all about being woke.

I try to think of it from a black perspective. They probably wish all this woke advertising money was funneled into production of black movies, instead of ads for miscegenation and gays. But they are incentivized to support the regime, even if someone came along and offered them a better deal.

  9. Large numbers of the “intellectual” Dissident Right (with the notable exception of James Lindsay) ended up backing either Biden or at least neutrality, in the hope (cope?) that “at least Biden isn’t woke” and that he might usher in “a new era” of “civility” and “politeness.”

I always take that kind of talk with a grain of salt. If you’re in academia and want to be able to research politically-incorrect subjects, saying you support Biden and “civility” is the best chance you’ve got. You won’t feel too guilty about it, as there’s an IQ floor to working in academia, above which you aren’t gonna take the non-wall wall seriously.

I see the same division between an “intellectual” and a “populist” strand, but through a different lens. Both were heading toward neutrality before 2020, with this trend peaking in the summer of 2019 with the #YangGang. Then, there was a kind of mini-divergence, with the populists moving to a pseudo-pro-Trump view where you don’t directly praise the man but instead provide long lists of bad things Joe & Kamala will do without mentioning how Trump in charge will be different. Another feature of this pseudo-pro-Trump viewpoint launching occasional attacks on Trump’s policy failures, but never mentioning his personality. This allows you to take the apparent high-ground if called-out. “We object to him on policy, but we don’t do personal attacks.” The problem here is that you cannot explain his failures without telling the story of his personality. It is fundamental, just like you can’t tell the story of Obama without doing what Steve Sailer did and looking at his personality. The old argument that the GOPe, conservatism Inc, etc, was bad because its job was to stand in the way of genuine populism was forgotten.

What’s really driving this is the donors. The “populist” donors are willing to listen to “Trump’s insufficiently right-wing,” but not “Trump’s incompetent and has no principles.” The idea that maybe their virtue-signaling cousin was right about this one thing is just not something they are willing to accept.

There’s also the issue of coronavirus. There has been, since the summer, another mini-divergence among previous corona-hawks. Some have taken the view that since we are over-preventing COVID*, we should just ignore all these anti-maskers and corona-deniers. I agree we’re over-preventing COVID right now, but I still have to share a country with all these anti-maskers. As Cochran has asked, what happens if there’s another pandemic? https://westhunt.wordpress.com/2020/11/01/free-parameter/ My response is simple: I will not support any candidate, any movement, any political party, that refuses to condemn these crackpots.

  10. As I already wrote in another thread, wokeness is an integral part of the grand plan being executed by the West’s ruling ethny. Wokeness is just a sentiment of anti-whiteness and for lack of a better term “minority-supremacism.” It’s being implemented in order to eventually create a system of totalitarian oppression against whites.

The first step to complete control over the whites is the conquest, which is occurring via demographic displacement. The second step is their dehumanization, which forms the justification for why the conquered population not only doesn’t deserve to be treated equally but in fact deserves to be stripped of basic rights and subjugated. For Muslims such a rationalization was and is religion, for 18th century whites it was the notion of black racial inferiority, and for POC in the 21st century it will be the concept that whites are uniquely, irredeemably evil and must be punished for past crimes and repressed so as to be incapable of committing future ones. This dehumanization process is ongoing and intensifying, and wokeness is one facet of it. It is 100% guaranteed that wokeness is not only here to stay but will gather momentum as the demographics continue to turn against whites and the power of the coalition of the fringes increases.

  13. It’ll continue and become the only accepted discourse.
It wasn’t ever a movement to counter Trump, it is the standard agenda – once Trump is gone, the “friction” will be over and it will flow fast through everything, every media, every institution.

Oh, be prepared to the come back of mass shootings, and fire arm ban on the news again.

  14. Europe Europa says

I doubt BLM rioting will end, it actually started under Obama and him being in the White House didn’t stop them so I don’t see why Biden will.

I don’t think the intensification of the BLM riots was even really about Trump, it was because a violent Negro thug died being arrested by white and Asian policemen. Blacks are not going to stop being violent thugs just because Biden has won the election, so incidents like George Floyd are probably still going to happen and blacks will loot and riot as a result.

  15. Maybe, all of this really is because of black Twitter.

I mean, has anyone really considered the direct effects of technology on black aggression and rioting? Like, how there is a lot more video now, and it can be selectively edited. Figure, a Sony camera captured Rodney King being beaten in 1991, and we have come a long way since then.

Maybe, the Great Awokening really is because of woke white liberals being connected to aggressive blacks on the internet in a way they never were before.

Of course, there is the other end of it – more of it is published now because of the alt-media.

  16. If you think about it, the internet is the ultimate exacerbation of the phenomenon of bypassing real life experience with blacks in order to signal one’s egalitarianism. It is like the North vs. South, during Reconstruction or the civil rights era, only 100,000x worse.

  17. I have a special bottle to be opened when the headline “They are now shooting BLM supporters” appears underneath Don Lemon.

I don’t understand the whole fuss about “SJWs”. They are a minuscule minority, they are very deeply unpopular with the vast majority of people, they have no political clout and they mainly exist online in certain circles. I am at university right now and I can confirm there are now “SJW” type people or people who fit the description. They were a thing around maybe 2015 and they largely came and went.

  19. prime noticer says

“What Will Happen to “Wokeism” After Bad Orange Man Goes?”

a moderate increase in wokeism, slowly over time.

the ratchet can be moved more quickly when there’s an obvious and visible enemy to ‘progress’. but that won’t be the case ever again, now that the Republican party is finished at the national level. so it will be a slow burn from here on out. with some internecine battles as the last european men in the coalition of the fringes get their turn being beat on.

  20. Chrisnonymous says

Document includes reversing the “Muslim travel ban”, so it must be at least in part propaganda.

Wokism will continue because it hasn’t affected white leftists enough yet. Example: Ivy League schools are still managing admissions in a way that gives whites disproportionate admissions. To stop Wokism, people on the left would need to see clear negative effects to themselves. That’s a necessary but maybe not sufficient condition.

  21. The narrative that seems to be taking shape in the mainstream of the Democratic party is that, while it’s nice that they were able to defeat Trump, this election wasn’t really a great victory for them: they lost House seats and are in real danger of failing to take the Senate. Many are blaming the far-left of the party as embodied by AOC. AOC, as expected, completely rejects this narrative, says that the problem is that the Democrats aren’t more like her, and if anything is indicating that she’s going to be more confrontational vis-a-vis the party establishment going forward (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/07/us/politics/aoc-biden-progressives.html).

Biden will surely make a lot of symbolic concessions to leftist demands (which is what most of these notional EOs are, symbolic gestures with minimal practical impact). Where he stands on the more substantial issues (border security, COVID, domestic security/law enforcement) remains to be seen. He can count on more favorable media coverage than what Trump got…to a point. The uncomfortable fact remains (as pointed out by Ann Coulter) that the establishment did not want Biden. Already in the celebrations you get the sense that many people are more excited for Vice President Harris than they are for President Biden. Clearly they would like for Biden to step aside in 2024. Are they willing to try and force him aside? And why should he listen to them, given that this was the same establishment that tried to talk him out of running in the first place? Biden is like Trump in one key respect: both are living proof that the majority of Americans (across race and gender lines) do not share the NYT Editorial Board’s vision for the country.

All this is compounded by Biden’s inherent softness and weakness. As with Trump I think it will come down to advisors: if Biden surrounds himself with good people he’ll take a center-left course, denounce the radicals and stand a good chance of re-election in 2024 in spite of lukewarm-to-negative establishment sentiments. If he surrounds himself with a bunch of Twitter-addict millennials then you can expect a tone-deaf and schizophrenic course of policy that will alienate many and please no one (including AOC); he’ll be a sitting duck in 2024 for both the Republicans as well as his own party.

His purported cabinet selections would indicate he’s taking the more moderate tack, imo.

  22. As sher singh is suggesting, Wokeness seems to be a kind of neo-Marxist worldview of its own. It doesn’t just target white Europeans, it will also go against Indians, Muslims, Africans who retain traditional or national identities, Chinese and so on, just selecting whatever allies and groups that are useful in the place it is trying to establish itself.

So here you can probably substitute Hindu man, Muslim man etc. for white man, just depending on the context and who the Woke are criticising at a given moment:

…the 21st century it will be the concept that whites are uniquely, irredeemably evil and must be punished for past crimes and repressed so as to be incapable of committing future ones.

This is what will probably bring it to an end, when it becomes clearer that basically the same kind of ideology is in action across a very broad and varied range of cultures. If the combined weight of the non-Woke content of these cultures can be brought to bear on it, it will significantly lose credibility.

  23. This is what will probably bring it to an end, when it becomes clearer that basically the same kind of ideology is in action across a very broad and varied range of cultures. If the combined weight of the non-Woke content of these cultures can be brought to bear on it, it will significantly lose credibility.

Nonsense. There is no “combined weight” of non-woke cultures. If you want to get something done, you need a small amount of committed and like-minded people. Forming a coalition of people who are alien to each other will not even get off the ground. This would be true even if it were the case that things actually get done by majorities. Of course that idea is also wrong, since the majority of people never accomplish anything.

Wokeism itself didn’t start out of a coalition of the woke. It’s the product of a small group of people in the United States.

Wokeism won’t be easily defeated, one I’ll mention is its total iconoclasm is the conclusion of the abrahamist view||

There’s no comprehensive alternative and any counter regime suffers a few problems:

why would a competent Brahmin (varna) support you, can you offer incentives which outweigh the total outcasting of their clan & possibly whole tribe?
    2. Expectations:
RW orgs can oversell material progress, but plebs view this as means to end – end being “freedom”
Economy goes in cycles, RW just creates better infra for left to use when back in power

    3. Passion/fervour:

  29. Another German Reader says

The Western Left can only do it, because there are enough capable men producing surplus – tax, business, inventions and capable of maintaining the physical foundations. For now it’s mainly white men, reinforced with high-caliber migrants from the rest of the world (mainly Indian/Confucian).

The US Left & the Cuckservatives can curentky afford follies, because the Western cunsumer-market is still the most important and the Western armies – despite decay – are still overwhelming stronger than the rest of the world combined – at least conventionally.

    BUT

The contradictions & financial foundations and of course the daily incomptences and constant daily bickering will take it toll in all aspects.

The Confucian & SE-Asia sphere will soon surpass the West in nearly all fields or at least be on par. This will dry up the stream of talented migrants. PPP wise their consumer-market will soon be on par and will pull ahead.

Social-cultural appeal of the West will wane. Already visible at the box office in China or radios in the Vietnam, where Kpop rules. Already you can see it in the automotive sphere that design decisions are based on Chinese tastes. Already many Africans favor the Chinese model over the empty promises of the West.

Migrants groups – if they grow big enough will jump off Western leftist platforms/parties – and form their own ethnic-religous platforms/parties.

This will actually weaken the Leftists group and every day Whites will getting healthy doses of redpills – making them very discplined Euro ethno-racialists aka New Real Conservatives.

Depending on Wild Cards (pandemic, ecological events) this process will be finished sometimes between the late 2030s and early 2050s.

Pax Europa finally ends and Pax Confucius begins.

Eastern Europe & Russia will be core lands of European people & culture & heritage.

In the 19th century several ideologies were born:

    Facism – Communism – Zionism – Jihadism – Liberalism.

    Facism -> Dead since 1945

    Communism -> Dead since 1989

Zionism -> Dead when Pax Europa ends – unless it can attach itself to a new West-Pac host.

Jihadism -> DoA, but still in zombie-state due oil money/development aid. Definitively dead when electric-hydrogen cars/trucks have replace ICE.

Liberalism – > Dead when the liberal dream of multi-cultural society becomes real.

History & Human Nature only allows two political-cultural ideologies: Realism and Pragmatism. The leaders of Russia, Confucian and SE-Asian countries are strong followers of those ideologies and that’s why their nations are ascending.

The rest of humanity is descending or stagnating.

As Ron Unz has pointed out, the Jews who control the Ivy League discriminate against non-Jewish Whites. He estimates that there should be 10 non-Jewish Whites for every Jewish White. At Harvard, it’s 25% Jewish White. A 10 to 1 ratio would still prove Jewish academic superiority over non-Jewish Whites; Jews at 18 are only 1.8% of the US population compared with the overall 2.1 % Jews in the USA. They are dying out as fast as other US Whites.

He didn’t provide enough information to estimate the effect of Jewish White bigotry on Asian Americans but it’s obviously very bad. Imaginary non-Jewish White bigotry would have zero effect on Asian Americans applying to the Ivy League. Zero power means zero responsibility.

And nor should it be restrained, particularly when it comes to judges. It’s past time that people allowed a group of political lickspittles to claim any sort of solemnity: like all positions that insist on their own gravitas, they’re just apparatchiki.

In systems with politically-appointed judiciaries, new judges are always ‘made men’ for the political party currently in power. The exceptions exist, but are so rare as to be really obviously exceptional.

Case in point (thoroughly non-exceptional variety: the conservative government in Australia appointed 70 former staffers and politicians to positions on the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). The positions are not ‘judicial’ per se, but AAT ‘members’ are the ones who oversee hearings and can make binding directions.

It would be excellent if political appointees knew that if the political wind shifted, they would be out on their ear.

That’s kind of how it is for the very top of the bureaucracy: why are judges different? Mostly, it’s because the proles are fooled by the pageantry: they play dressups like 17th century clerics, and you enter their domain as a supplicant. “All rise” and so forth… and people comply like Catholics doing their silly kneeling nonsense at the end of the pew before they sit down to chat with their imaginary Sky Maniac.

Problem is, there is a tacit “balance of terror” where both sides of politics understand that doing so would diminish the ‘brand’ of the judiciary (which is just a modern version of the Papal curia).

If the masses got it in their thick idiot heads that the bloke in the priestly dressup was just another political apparatchik, then more people would treat “court” with the contempt it deserves.

  32. Perhaps, there is a predictive model of wokeness, based on toilet history: toilet cliodynamics.

First, let us consider the past of woke nations: the English were innovators, when it came to flush valves. The French could, at one time, boast that 90% of their bathrooms had bidets. Americans often had 2.5 bathrooms in the ’50s, with hot and cold potable water coming from the same tap, and by the ’60s, drinking it could prevent tooth decay.

But what about based countries, back then? Well, when Russkies were winning the space race, they tore up old newspapers into strips, by the commode. The Japs had pit latrines, and they used sticks and stones to clean themselves. (Richard Feynman, traveling to Japan, reassured his anxious hosts-to-be, by telling them that he had taken a shovel with him, the last time he went on vacation.) Meanwhile, Singapore had tapeworms.

Some say that history is cyclical. That we must fall, before we rise, and rise before we fall. Fast-forward sixty years. What sort of toilets does the West have now?

London is populated past the capacity of its old infrastructure, the sewers back up into people’s basements. France has fallen down to only 10% bidets! In America, it can be difficult to find a public restroom. In the ’90s, low-flow toilets were mandated in the US. Embarrassingly, they were manufactured and installed without ever having been put through realistic tests – they failed and clogged repeatedly. Today, on the West Coast, they are already street-shitting…

And in the East? Let us consider modern Japan, where Toto washlets have control panels with five buttons on them…

    Of course wokeism will accelerate.

Trump was con man, fraud and clown from the beginning, but there is possibility of another Trump who will be the real deal, and this is what the woke need to preempt.

Of course the left is making lists, becaue the left understands the rules of the game. Any change, any revolution is about making lists. Lists of enemies, and even more importantly, lists of friends.

This is why Trump failed. Even if he actually tried to “drain the swamp” and fired his enemies (this means everyone) he had no friends to replace them. Trump movement failed, because there are no Trumpists.

If the Progs are making a list, it will likely be the top ~10,000 Trump donors

As if they would be allowed to touch his Jewish donors

  35. The Jewish donors to Trump were donors to Israel through Trump as a proxy.

As the saying goes in Odessa: “These are two big differences!”

Then again, Trump is the kind of person who is too feckless to even get a legal team together for the contingency of disputing the election (despite repeatedly claiming the Dems would try to rig it). So its also far from obvious that his anti-CRT executive order would have made any significant headway regardless.

No surprise. No surprise at all 🙂

Isn’t it strange no one has addressed a few issues that seem too obvious to me…

    1. the US has always been, basically, a centrist, common sense nation. Woke stuff is the polar opposite.
    2. when has it started? I don’t know. Perhaps in the 60’s & the 70’s, but seriously after the fall of the USSR. Many would say it was inevitable- but, to me, it is completely unnatural. It looks like a suicide of a society.

    3. can it last? I guess yes. Although I don’t see a possibility of going back to normalcy. At the end, it must implode.

What is strange is that there are no more “Trumps”. His personal defects aside, he’s done more common-sense things than anyone else.

But- what can one expect from a culture where Greta (not Garbo) is a heroine & where ordinary criminals like Martin & Floyd are deified. Such a culture must collapse, sooner or later.

  38. I just keep asking myself – why does the right always lose? You would have thought by now there would have been a huge political shift to the right and yet… Joe Biden “won” an election and Wokeism continues to spread with no end in sight.

Any day I have read over the years. When this crisis happens, when too many people arrive, when this scandal occurs, people will rise up and the day will be saved…. Never seems to happen…

I think the right is doomed. If I’m honest.

Pretty much. Its basically just classic 18th century Enlightenment ideology about abolishing nations and creating a utopia of reason. People here don’t know intellectual history.

Whites are seen as the most advanced and mature race, and most capable of making this leap forward, and show the world how its done. So it starts with them, but it doesn’t end there. If you look at Leftist forums that relate to Japan or Israel or India or China, there is plenty of attention being paid towards deconstructing their national identities too.

Just, they aren’t considered as advanced as Whites, so Whites are supposed to be an example to everyone and be the first to make this leap into the future. Its sort of like how the Left always held Israel to a much higher standard than the Palestinians, because they were seen as White and thus more mature and capable of making moral advances. What ended up easing the pressure off Israel after the 90s was that it became much more of a brown country and less European as the brown population got better socially integrated (I suspect this is partially behind the recent peace deals. Israel did a much better job at integrating its Arab Jewish population, so that today, the UAE feels more comfortable dealing with a country that fits into the region).

But eventually this ideology wants to deconstruct the national identity of everyone.

  40. But- what can one expect from a culture where Greta (not Garbo) is a heroine & where ordinary criminals like Martin & Floyd are deified. Such a culture must collapse, sooner or later.

I’m sure people in Rome were saying that during Caligula’s reign. And again during the crises of the third century. And they were right. It did collapse. It just took a bit longer than they expected…

  41. Any day I have read over the years. When this crisis happens, when too many people arrive, when this scandal occurs, people will rise up and the day will be saved…. Never seems to happen…

I think the right is doomed. If I’m honest.

Left-wing populism of the Bernie Bros variety is still a possibility. I suspect that quite a few people on the Left would happily give up Wokeness in exchange for sensible healthcare, employment and housing policies.

And it already appears that quite a few Democrats are blaming the Woke crowd for the disappointing Democrat performances in the House and Senate elections.

So, a question. Would anybody here support left-wing populism as an alternative to the current situation?

  42. So, a question. Would anybody here support left-wing populism as an alternative to the current situation?

    I would.

  43. Bardon Kaldian says

During Caligula & company only the Senate was in danger. Italic peoples & others were in their places, legions were Roman not in name only. The World-view was not anti-Roman, in any social stratum.

So, this is not a good analogy.

Demography in Rome’s Caligula to Nero’s time was basically the same as during Caesar.

  44. The Spirit of Enoch Powell says

Economic left-wing populism has always been the majority opinion, the online types who defend the indefensible from the private sector are mostly just trying to fit into the mould, as they think right-wing social views must necessarily be combined with right-wing economic views.

There were also a lot of left-wing economic folk who were duped into this false dichotomy of “you must support progressive social norms if you support left wing economics”, but the Bernie bro and ChapoTrapHouse types broke out of this false dichotomy.

Someone like Eric Striker is economically left-wing and socially right-wing.

  45. Craig Nelsen says

So, if Democrats succeed in stealing this election, the fault lies with Trump’s “ineptness”? If Big Tech is censoring political speech, it’s because conservatives are “hopeless”? You have lots of blame to hand out to “the right” for the ascendancy of “the left,” but by the very fact you use those two lazy, mushy, paralyzing descriptors you demonstrate you have no solutions to offer, only unhelpful criticisms.

  46. Craig Nelsen says

If you look at Leftist forums that relate to Japan or Israel or India or China, there is plenty of attention being paid towards deconstructing their national identities too.

Bullshit. No one in China is using the advances of the Enlightenment to deconstruct Chinese nationalism. To the extent it would relate to Chinese nationalism at all, a Chinese advocate of Enlightenment principles would argue from a presumption of Chinese advantage.

The attack on national identity in the West is just one front in humanity’s permanent war–the same war the rest of nature finds itself in: survival of the fittest. In that war, a nation is much stronger than a tribe and, in a world of nations, tribes are doomed to eventual disappearance. The one exception is the very clever and devious tribe that can convince the nationalists that nations qua nations are displeasing to the gods.

Your post is a good example of how they do that.

  47. No, I meant White liberals – there are plenty of White liberals who take an interest in China who are very opposed to Chinese nationalism. Although there certainly are Chinese who take a similar approach, as well. But this strand of the Enlightenment is primarily a Western thing- China chose another strand of the Enlightenment to base itself on, the techno-social-engineering-panopticon strand. Chiba us where the West was 70 years ago.

The one exception is the very clever and devious tribe that can convince the nationalists that nations qua nations are displeasing to the gods.

Are you referring to the French philosophes of the 18th century? Well, I wouldn’t actually call Voltaire, Rousseau, Diderot, a tribe per se, but ok…

  48. Rattus Norwegius says

What crosses your mind when thinking about left-wing populism?

  49. I suspect that quite a few people on the Left would happily give up Wokeness in exchange for sensible healthcare, employment and housing policies.

I would only add that employment policies would have to include a UBI. I think I was reading recently that the manufacturing sector in America is, despite impressions, as large as it is in China – around 20% of the economy. Bringing back manufacturing from China – while a good first step – would not significantly change that. Automation has simply killed the majority of manufacturing jobs, and that cant be changed unless, like the Japanese in the 17th century, we willingly give up advances in automation. This appears to be the case in China as well.

But while making technology serve humanity rather than resigning ourselves to whatever changes technological advances bring as if they are inevitable natural events – by actually sometimes choosing not to use a technology – would be a great shift in human consciousness and an advance in human freedom, automation, if properly used, can further human freedom more.

Since technological advances have basically freed mankind from the need for work, I expect the economy to evolve into a game where the rich people hand out money to the populace in order to buy whatever it is the rich people are producing, in a kind of circular process. Compared to the Middle Ages, most of the economy already has the character of a game (most jobs are unnecessary), but it will become even more like a game.

  50. Left-wing populism of the Bernie Bros variety is still a possibility. I suspect that quite a few people on the Left would happily give up Wokeness in exchange for sensible healthcare, employment and housing policies.

If they would give up on wokeness , I would.

  51. Your post is a good example of how they do that.

Also, how does my post deconstruct nationalism? I was just describing the ideology of the Left.

I myself am opposed to all extreme, one-sided utopian projects. I think the principle of individuality is as important as collective unity, and so I think small to medium size nations are perfect human-scale sizes for political organization.

I just wouldn’t necessarily base nations on race, and I would want a nationalism that isn’t competitive or aggressive, as it has been in the past. That kind of nationalism with modern weaponry simply isn’t viable anymore. Technology has made it a thing of the past. But that kind of old school nationalism was really based on the premise that one nation would eventually conquer everyone else and impose their way of life. It did not have any genuine respect for the principle of plurality.
