Best Political Compass Yet

Sacred Digital:

Preliminary results for survey based on Nesterov’s (@esoterikwa) alternative political compass + attitudes towards Transhumanism vs. Conservationism. Noticed a couple of interesting patterns.

Traditionalists don’t seem to value individual Right to Exit, which is essential for Patchwork, and prefer Iron Curtain. Biodeterminist accelerationists seem to be more progressive on social issues than one might expect. Left-transhumanists tend to underestimate dangers of AI.

Predictions: Most transhumanists will group in their main sequence. SSC rationalists will group in the center-left on universalist axis, up the technocapital axis. Neochina of fascistic transhumanists will arrive from red triangle grouping to the purple pentagon.

It is based on this old video by up and coming Russian vlogger Kirill Nesterov.

Anatoly Karlin is a transhumanist interested in psychometrics, life extension, UBI, crypto/network states, X risks, and ushering in the Biosingularity.

  1. Empire Earth’s Russia campaign was the greatest work ever made on the subject of Russian futurism.

  2. Daniel Chieh says

    Landian accelerationists win again.

  3. Why the contrast (or just relationship) between Transhumanism and Conservationism? Which is represented on the horizontal pole and which on the vertical?

  4. Daniel Chieh says

    To my understanding…

Left: Universalism – people are basically similar, except for their social or technological concerns.

Right: Biodeterminism – people are fundamentally different and cannot escape their born conditions.

Top – Technocapitalism – wealth and power justifies itself. The pursuit of such incidentally creates civilization, and pusuit of wealth justifies suppression of trad morality.

Bottom – Eudaimonia – civilization uses wealth and power to create moral goods, and pursuit of said trad morality justifies suppression of wealth.

  5. Daniel Chieh says

Relationship is that extreme transhumanism cannot allow “true” biodeterminism. By denying the soul,no essential qualities can be unaltered: you can put a dog brain in man or put a human brain in a dog, differences will only be via psychotropic chemicals such as hormones or enteric nervous system, etc. Especially true of accelerationists (no brakes,no regulation, no acceptance of any trad morality: usually paired with faith in capitalism as almost a moral force).

  6. I wonder where Nick Bostrom (deliberate extermination of humanity by artificial general intelligence in probably the default) would fit in.

Prophets, he explains, follow William Vogt, a founding environmentalist who believed that in using more than our planet has to give, our prosperity will lead us to ruin. Cut back! was his mantra. Otherwise everyone will lose! The Wizards are the heirs of Norman Borlaug, whose research, in effect, wrangled the world in service to our species to produce modern high-yield crops that then saved millions from starvation. Innovate! was Borlaug’s cry. Only in that way can everyone win

Vogt committed suicide in 1968, the truth is not always a pleasant thing.

Samuel Butler had it all worked out in 1863

We refer to the question: What sort of creature man’s next successor in the supremacy of the earth is likely to be. We have often heard this debated; but it appears to us that we are ourselves creating our own successors; we are daily adding to the beauty and delicacy of their physical organisation; we are daily giving them greater power and supplying by all sorts of ingenious contrivances that self-regulating, self-acting power which will be to them what intellect has been to the human race. In the course of ages we shall find ourselves the inferior race.
Day by day, however, the machines are gaining ground upon us; day by day we are becoming more subservient to them; more men are daily bound down as slaves to tend them, more men are daily devoting the energies of their whole lives to the development of mechanical life. The upshot is simply a question of time, but that the time will come when the machines will hold the real supremacy over the world and its inhabitants is what no person of a truly philosophic mind can for a moment question.

Competence without comprehension as Daniel Dennett calls it, he thinks AGI is at least 50 years away though. Unlike Vogt and Butler he has reproduced so maybe he is biased.

  7. Sounds quite Pavlovian. Quite conducive to an authoritarian society based on obedience and communal agreement to an all knowing leader. Orwell’s 1984?

  8. Daniel Chieh says

Not really since it typically is technocapitalistic, so it’s patchwork friendly. Typically has strong libertarian attitudes, very Randian.

  9. transhumanism is fake and gay, even alex jones say so

  10. perhaps i’m too new to this blog, but: what the hell am i looking at? any sort of reference would be helpful.

  11. Daniel Chieh says

Refer to the legend. For example, “Singularians” are upper right, and hexagonal for “progressive” and purple for “singularity.” Some archreactionaries(primitivists?) are bottom right, marked “non-exit” and “anti-industrailization.”

  12. Can you elaborate, or say how long it takes to play?
