Freedom House On Ukraine

Just in case you needed any more evidence Freedom House are complete, utter prostitutes.

This is about a country where journalists speaking out against mobilization are getting arrested, anti-regime sites get taken down by the secret services, far right thugs raid leftist and anti-Maidan newspapers, and an officially sanctioned website lists the names and addresses of anti-regime “terrorists and propagandists,” who are steadily committing “suicide” or getting openly and unshamedly offed, like the late Oles Buzina.

  1. Not surprised, but thanks for bringing it up or I’d never know.

Does Putin have his own Freedom House?

  2. I am proud to say I have been kicked off the nzconservative website for suggesting that a nuclear first strike on Russia would be deeply immoral. They insisted I was a paid Russian trill and would not accept that I an English New Zealander.

  3. Zelený drak says

Romania’s stance (of not recognizing either of the two) is not strange. Despite the historical issues, the current relations with Turkey are very good. Turks have almost completely disappeared from the list of rivals in the mental map of Romanians.
While Russia is viewed as one of great enemies this does not mean that Ukraine is viewed with any sympathy. For many, they are just a smaller Russia. They have after all historically Romanian territories, taken during the Second World War. There also border conflicts (marine border around an island/rock) . Ukraine was not well liked even by the leftist (due to ecological damage done in the Danube Delta.)

  4. You should take a look at Noam Chomsky’s demolition of Freedom House’s 1977 report on the media’s coverage of the 1968 Tet Offensive. It’s in Appendix 3 in his book (coauthored w/ Edward Herman) Manufacturing Consent, if you can get your hands on it.

  5. Sam Haysom says

I wouldn’t risk it. A book which appears on literally every liberal professors course reading list is a very dangerous book to try and track down. Dick Cheney has been known to personal execute those caught with it. And yet somehow Norm Chomsky is worth millions of dollars. Maybe he’s a like an agent provocateur or somwthing.

  6. If you read it and have anything even remotely interesting to say about it, let me know. I’ll be waiting with bated breath.
