  • Hungary has become an object in the culture war. Their demographic problems long predate Orban, who was actually more successful on the economy than on the former (at least to date). They are not going to get rich by taking in immigrants. The US tends to attract much higher quality immigrants (or at least an elite “smart fraction” subset that punches way above its weight) that will simply never come to Hungary because it is banally poorer than the US and does not have world-renowned institutions/companies to attract them (as @whyvert points out). Basically, my take is that there’s limited the “lessons: that the US and Hungary can exchange are highly limited.

  • Global Times: “Lithuania is a crazy, tiny country full of geopolitical fears. Its strategy is to cling to the US as tightly as possible. Lithuania will eventually pay the price for its evil deed of breaking international rules.

An aside inspired by a comment from a Russian friend of mine: the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, the Communist government aided and abetted by the Soviet Union, outlasted the withdrawal of Russian forces in 1989 and was able to continue to launch successful offensives by themselves against mujihadeen forces; it was ultimately defeated in 1992 after bitter fighting – including finally losing a siege that had been fought for 11 years.

At its end, it managed to outlast the Soviet Union itself.

On the other hand, post-US withdrawal, it doesn’t seem like that American-led Afghan government is going to last two months.

  4. the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, the Communist government aided and abetted by the Soviet Union, outlasted the withdrawal of Russian forces in 1989 and was able to continue to launch successful offensives by themselves against mujihadeen forces; it was ultimately defeated in 1992 after bitter fighting – including finally losing a siege that had been fought for 11 years.

What Happened to the Afghan Army?

The real Afghan Army with traditions dating back to 1719 or 1747 was destroyed by joint US Pakistan design about 1978-1992 when a proxy war was financed in Afghanistan.

Characters like Peter Tomsen went out of their way to destroy the real Afghan Army between 1989 and 1992 , just because it was viewed as Pro Soviet or Pro Russian entity.

Afghanistan had no army between 1992 and 2001.

In 2001 the USA initiated efforts to create a new army but this exercise had ulterior motives. First the exercise was awarded to contractors which was the first blunder.

US myopia and petty mindset was such that USSR trained pilots , available in thousands were not reemployed as they were regarded as Russian proxies !

While the USSR trained many thousand Afghans in USSR and Warsaw Pact states, US petty parsimony and narrowmindedness was such that hardly any Afghan was taken to the USA for courses.

Instead characters who no one would employ in USA , and had no options were in Afghanistan training the Afghan Army.

To give an example , the main project supervisor of Schools and Clinics program in Louis Burger was a male nurse ! To entrust billion dollar construction projects to a male nurse was ludicrous.

My driver and many taxi drivers I met were outstanding war pilots trained for 5 years in USSR and with combat flying experience between 3000 hours to 15,000 hours !

Tanks were regarded as future threat and armour was hardly created or organised.

The list is endless but will never be investigated like Louis Burgers billion dollar failure published by Washington Post as a “BUILDING PLAN FULL OF CRACKS” , LATE 2005 !

The simple issue was security ! US trainers were simply SCARED that they would get shot in the back !

SO THERE WAS HARDLY ANY TRAINING !!!

I saw some of these contractors in Kabul when I was living about 110 metres from gate of Kabul Compound or camp Eggers !

These characters were here to do hole punching and make some bucks and not to create an army. So the real spirit was missing .

The USA preferred so called ex Mujahids which was a bad idea.

The best Afghan officers like Ulumi etc were never taken in the loop as they were considered pro Russian.

Many old Afghan Army officers joined but these were sabotaged by the Mujahid Mafia who were a collection of USA, Pakistan or so many other state proxies who had destroyed their own country between 1978 and 1992 !

The unkindest cut was delivered by this character Ashraf Ghani who between 2014 and 2019 summarily removed 90 % of pre 1992 Afghan Army officers , thus totally destroying the Afghan Army !

The incompetent US staff in Kabul did not oppose this most IDIOTIC and FOOLISH step !

Or perhaps it was US design that Afghan Army should collapse quickly so that the Taliban are back in power and then they can be sorted out properly !

The collapse of Afghan Army has to be seen in the context of the fact that FIRST the USA and its proxy states DESTROYED the REAL AFGHAN ARMY in 1978-92 ! Then the RECONSTRUCTION of AFGHAN ARMY by the USA was a SHALLOW EXERCISE , MARRED by MASSIVE CORRUPTION and a BAD TEAM . Lastly no army can be created in 20 years . FINALLY Ashraf Ghanis Removal of the REAL AFGHAN ARMY OFFICERS BETWEEN 2014 AND 2019 WAS THE DEATH SENTENCE OF AFGHAN ARMY !

  5. “Observation: Western Europe seems to be considerably less “progressed” into World War T than the Anglos.”

I live in a Woke German university city. Even most students here don’t think men should compete in women sports. There was a poll at a kind of “local twitter app” (which only students use) 80% supported that “High-testosterone” people should be excluded from women competitions

Why is Wokeism spreading faster in Anglo countries?

  6. Morton's toes says

I recently rented a new Toyota Corolla and found one of its features is that it displays the speed limit right there on the dash board when it can be picked up from the network. I am all in favor of driving cars like I am a bat out of hell on race tracks. Professional race car drivers over the age of 23 stick to the speed limit (or traffic flow speed) on public streets.

  7. Thorfesson’s case is pathetically weak.

    He was joking.

  8. …Why is Wokeism spreading faster in Anglo countries?

A possible theory: anglo women start out ugly and don’t age well. That has led to massive longterm increase in gender confusion. Notice that older anglo men and women are hard to tell apart: women look like men and vice-versa. Many emigrated to escape it, but that just spread it. Now the world is facing the consequences, we might have to do something about it.

Meh. I spent a night in jail after i crashed my BMW into a utility pole like 10 years ago (bowling alley party) and while it was an interesting experience, it was a very safe car, so it wasn’t all that heroic.

I commute on a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 that me and my kid put together with parts from local hardware store. Now that’s a heroic challenge that requires skills to not die. And i never drink before riding.

  11. I do question how widespread true believer ‘wokeism’ really is among normal people in the anglosphere. You have much different conversations on these topics in groups of 2 or 3 than you do in 4+.

  12. So, perhaps the war in Afghanistan was really about Russia.

If it were about terrorism, Franks & Bush wouldn’t have let OBL escape at Tora Bora back in December 2001.

It seems that a much bigger priority was destroying any possible Russian influence in the country, such as USSR-trained officers.

Perhaps DC is hoping that the Taliban will be a thorn in the CSTO’s side.

    Hmm…

I don’t agree. Sure the US gets the cream of the crop but on the whole is the average US immigrant all that great or even above average?

Hungary on the other hand has a sweet spot on immigration. Its language and strong local competition means no-one they don’t want will want to go there but if it needs immigrants it has a plentiful source of high quality immigrants… the hungarian diaspora. There are 2 million hungarians in Eastern Europe outside of Hungary. I’m sure some of them could be enticed to move if needed. Ireland and Israel did this in the 90s. It worked out well.

  28. Hungary has culture war.

By “culture war”, you mean becoming a symbolic target for interminable American Republican vs Democrat arguments with each other.

If this will happen to Hungary (let’s say, beyond this week), the initial cause of this misfortune will be that a representative of the Australian billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News (which transmits to the Republican voters), has begun to promote Hungary. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-58104200

Meanwhile, the Hungarian authorities, appeared to be failing the basic “IQ test” of avoiding Murdoch’s trap, as the authorities have presented an impression that they were favouring the Republican media representative. This lack of bipartisan approach, would be surprising naïve, for a country who is part of the EU, and one of the key NATO defenders for Eastern Europe.

    • Those parts of American public which have been gullible enough to become politicized, are one of the world’s most partisan-brainwashed people, divided into two warring sides, and with much of their opinions determined by anger directed against their own mirror images in the opposed party.

For an external ally of America, one of the most dangerous things that can happen is to become associated with only one of two political parties, as it implies that the other half of the country will become determined to dislike you – as you can become a placeholder or symbol of the enemy political party.

America is a two-headed monster, and if you seem to be preferring one head, then you will become an enemy with its other head.

If you approach the monster from the wrong side, he will look at you like this. This is a dangerous position, as its other head is becoming angry that you are facing the wrong side
    https://i.imgur.com/YBIuhxo.jpg

You approach from the other side and it looks like this. It’s also dangerous position as the Biden head will become angry that you are facing the wrong side.
    https://i.imgur.com/ZL8OwQZ.jpg

The only safe position to approach the Americans is from the side where both heads are heads are equally engaged. This is the lateral or bipartisan position. When you approach from the lateral side, the dangerous two-head beast may become less unstable and volatile, as you are able to talk with equal attention to both its heads.
    https://i.imgur.com/mRF9XZE.png

Rupert Murdoch is an interesting character. In recent years, both Republicans and Fox News had been able somewhat successfully able to convert Israel’s relation with the US into a symbol for their side, and Netanyahu was unable to resist that trap of losing Israel’s bipartisan position in American politics.

If the new Israeli governments are not idiots, they should be hoping that some other country (Hungary, Poland?) can become the partisan symbol in the post-Netanyahu years.

    • You have to admire how American politics is beautifully balanced between its sides. Republicans and Democrats both have their elites among their supporters – Republicans are supported by many upper class interests like the Texas oil industry, or industrialists like the Koch brothers; Democrats have support of the majority of Silicon Valley, and majority of the bourgeoisie of Massachusetts, New York, etc.

And both parties have their own lower class base, that they use innumerable tactics to influence and politicize: Democrat elites control the majority of urban proletariat in the coastal cities; Republican elites have influence on the “peasants” (well, nowadays, suburban lower middle class) of the interior and the South states.

Even in the media, the Democrats can have support of the majority of the media, but the Republican are balanced by having the world’s most talented and cynical media oligarch – Rupert Murdoch.

  29. Daniel Chieh says

America is pretty unstable as it is. It probably doesn’t really matter what Hungary says or does(short of actually bringing in gays, etc and then begging), much like it mostly doesn’t matter what Russia says or does; the American media and political system is essentially a walled garden that then projects whatever it wants. Reality is irrelevant.

It might actually be better to be on one side of this clown show, rather than to be either neither, and have no support.

You seem to believe that everything is carefully orchestrated by “elites”, but its pretty much just a circus going up and going down. The existence of “balance” as you suggest is just an artifact of this long-running struggle of various power interests dissolved into just having two parties which have also become a kind of substitute tribe and religion.

The rest beyond that is just increasing insanity, and the more familiar one is with the inner workings of the government, the more amusing and sad the endemic insanity is. The great beast of bureaucracy has kept things running; the constant disorganization and endemic mismanagement has been such that its amazing anything works, but sadly, that’s probably coming to an end soon and the Senility in Chief is really managing to spearhead this in an astounding manner.

At least, it can be said, American politics and events are not going to be boring.

Hungarian demographics had been worse than our neighbors for longer (below reproduction TFR since 1958), and Hungarians from neighboring countries have been coming to Hungary (often were forced to) for a century now, one big wave was in the 1990s. Over the past couple of decades those ethnic Hungarians in Romania or Slovakia who want to move mostly go to Western Europe. I would also say that unfortunately on average they are likely now somewhat lower quality than Hungarians in Hungary after basically a century of brain drain.

  35. china-russia-all-the-way says

There’s not much trade or investment between China and Lithuania (less than a billion dollars in bilateral trade and some Belt and Road investment in logistics as the railway gauge changes in Lithuania) so China isn’t in a position to do much against Lithuania. But the combined bloc force of Belarus, Russia, and China will make an example out of Lithuania especially the migrants launched by Belarus. It will show the other Baltic states and Eastern Europe that aggressively and proactively waging campaigns for the US Empire (as opposed to going along with things when directly ordered to) doesn’t do a country any good. The biggest cost to Lithuania is already apparent.

4,000 Iraqis and Africans are in refugees camps in Lithuania. The flow has temporarily stopped because border guards in Lithuania expel any non-family new arrivals, but that has simply shifted the problem to Latvia and Poland, which in the last week have received hundreds of migrants each. The EU does not want to move the 4,000 migrants out of Lithuania because they are a burden and secretly wants to foster a multi-racial society in every EU member state. The migrants might be in Lithuania permanently and settle down and invite relatives who attract further chain migration through cousin marriage. Lithuania is already sacrificing a future as a homogenous white Christian country. Anyone knowingly giving that up just to show up Lukashenko is an idiot.

First of all, the likely Jewish IQ is not 115 but rather something like 110, but it’s just a nitpick. Kevin B. MacDonald famously put it at 115, so it doesn’t really matter. He also made the point (which is visible to the naked eye) that Jews are hostile to gentile whites as groups. They tend to be more woke than gentile whites (even controlling for SES) and at the same time are way more likely to exempt Jews and Israel from woke requirements.

Overall, obviously Jews are hated both for their success and their hostility. Their success and high IQ actually make them more dangerous. A smart and successful enemy is worse than a dumb and failed one. Why can’t you (or Fred Reed) see this?

BTW the high Jewish IQ is amply discussed in Jew-obsessed circles.

    This lack of bipartisan approach

The Democrats and even many Republicans (like the late Senator John McCain) have attacked Orbán for a long time. He is just trying to build up some support for himself wherever he can find it. Given his stance on homosexuality and similar issues, it’s unlikely that he could build any support among the Dems.

While obviously you don’t want to be a major topic of partisan discussion in America, the Democrats’ attacks have recently intensified a lot, so perhaps now Orbán is hoping that the Republicans will now block any serious actions against him the same way they block raising taxes.

  45. Has Thorfinnsson read the original “powerful take” on DWI, the ur-text (1978) of drunk-driving bravado?

“How to Drive Fast on Drugs While Getting Your Wing-Wang Squeezed and Not Spill Your Drink”

    by PJ O’Rourke.

“When it comes to taking chances, some people like to play poker or shoot dice; other people prefer to parachute-jump, go rhino hunting, or climb ice floes, while still others engage in crime or marriage. But I like to get drunk and drive like a fool. Name me, if you can, a better feeling than the one you get when you’re half a bottle of Chivas in the bag with a gram of coke up your nose and a teenage lovely pulling off her tube top in the next seat over while you’re going a hundred miles an hour down a suburban side street. You’d have to watch the entire Mexican air force crash-land in a liquid petroleum gas storage facility to match this kind of thrill. If you ever have much more fun than that, you’ll die of pure sensory overload, I’m here to tell you……

Of course, it’s a shame to waste young lives behaving this way – speeding around all tanked up with your feet hooked in the steering wheel while your date crawls around on the floor mats opening zippers with her teeth and pounding on the accelerator with an empty liquor bottle. But it wouldn’t be taking a chance if you weren’t risking something. And even if it is a shame to waste young lives behaving this way, it is definitely cooler than risking old lives behaving this way. I mean, so what if some fifty-eight-year-old butt-head gets a load on and starts playing Death Race 2000 in the rush-hour traffic jam? What kind of chance is he taking? He’s just waiting around to see what kind of cancer he gets anyway. But if young, talented you, with all of life’s possibilities at your fingertips, you and the future Cheryl Tiegs there, so fresh, so beautiful – if the two of you stake your handsome heads on a single roll of the dice in life’s game of stop-the-semi – now that’s taking chances! Which is why old people rarely risk their lives. It’s not because they’re chicken – they just have too much dignity to play for small stakes……

Also, it’s important to be drunk because being drunk keeps your body all loose, and that way, if you have an accident or anything, you’ll sort of roll with the punches and not get banged up so bad. For example, there was this guy I heard about who was really drunk and was driving through the Adirondacks. He got sideswiped by a bus and went head-on into another car, which knocked him off a bridge, and he plummeted 150 feet into a ravine. I mean, it killed him and everything, but if he hadn’t been so drunk and loose, his body probably would have been banged up a lot worse – and you can imagine how much more upset his wife would have been when she went down to the morgue to identify him.

Even more important than being drunk, however, is having the right car. You have to get a car that handles really well. This is extremely important, and there’s a lot of debate on this subject – about what kind of car handles best. Some say a front-engined car; some say a rear-engined car. I say a rented car. Nothing handles better than a rented car. You can go faster, turn corners sharper, and put the transmission into reverse while going forward at a higher rate of speed in a rented car than in any other kind. You can also park without looking, and can use the trunk as an ice chest. Another thing about a rented car is that it’s an all-terrain vehicle. Mud, snow, water, woods – you can take a rented car anywhere. True, you can’t always get it back – but that’s not your problem, is it?

Yet there’s more to a really good-handling car than just making sure it doesn’t belong to you. It has to be big. It’s really hard for a girl to get her clothes off inside a small car, and this is one of the most important features of car handling. Also, what kind of drugs does it have in it? Most people like to drive on speed or cocaine with plenty of whiskey mixed in. This gives you the confidence you want and need for plowing through red lights and passing trucks on the right. 54. These are the results of a recent poll from Rating Group. 41% agree with Putin’s position, 55% disagree. Not bad, considering there’s now been a generation’s worth of state svidomy narratives.

I hate to be the one to bust Anatoly’s rosy picture of the affinity between Russians and Ukrainians, and perhaps assign more credit to Ukrainian “state svidomy narratives” than he does, but it appears that actually fewer Ukrainians feel this close bond than previously reported, at least as reported by Rozumkov. It seems that this tracking agency feels that its closer to 12.5% that agree with Putin’s views, and actually 70% that disagree. The recent BBC article does a nice job of breaking down these polling results by region too. The results, it appears, lie in how you frame the question, or in my opinion supports the famous dictum “figures never lie, but liars know how to figure” I’ll leave it up to you to makeup your own mind as to who’s lying and who’s doing the figuring here. 🙂

  58. Physical attractiveness predicts endorsement of specific evolutionary psychology principles

    Abstract
Evolutionary psychology has emerged as a controversial discipline, particularly with regard to its claims concerning the biological basis of sex differences in human mate preferences. Drawing on theories of motivated inference, we hypothesized that those who are most likely to be privileged by specific aspects of the theory would be most likely to support the theory. In particular, we predicted that physical attractiveness would be positively associated with endorsement of predictions of evolutionary psychology concerning mating strategies. Two studies confirmed this hypothesis. In Study 1, participants rated as higher in physical attractiveness were more likely to support specific principles of evolutionary psychology. In Study 2, a manipulation designed to boost self-perceived physical attractiveness increased endorsement of those same principles. Observer-rated physical attractiveness generally predicted individuals’ support of the theoretical principles better than did gender, political orientation, or self-esteem. Results suggest that those most likely to benefit according to certain predictions of evolutionary psychology are also those most likely to be sympathetic toward its relevant principles.

LOL. So my lifelong attractiveness to women is not valid “lived experience” by which to infer how the world works, but a Negro’s “feels” about systemic racism has such validity. No, by the logic that underpins these results we should suspect the Negro’s complaints the more. These woke social scientists are hoisting their agenda on its own petard.

  59. Oh God, the /pol/ westoids (it’s always the westoids) are now screeching about muh ADE

  60. Yes, I would expect most Stormfront types to be aware of the Jewish IQ thing. But Reed’s article, from its very title, is more about how they don’t seem to be able to make basic inferences and understand that group IQ gaps work both ways.

I think I could easily turn most of your statements around and make them be about Whites and Blacks, instead of Jews and gentiles. I hope you are aware that it’s not just the Jews. Episcopalians also tend to be woker, and Anglos, and academics, and most importantly here, Whites are woker than the rest of the races. Is it not Whites who are right now trying to impose wokeism on the rest of the world? See where the trans athletes lunacy originated.

I am certain that many people on the HBD camp agree with Fred Reed on this but just prefer to ignore the subject. For example, you are one of the best commenters here but it seems that my endorsement of Reed’s satire has triggered you. What have I won? And Jews are not really out for us anyway. Too many of them are married to gentiles and they’re not really so perverse as to wish evil on their pwn espouses. So who cares that some people still believe in Jewish conspiracies if we agree on many other things?

With that said, I am not a big fan of Israel at all. I wish they made peace with their neighbors and leave the rest of us alone. The way they control the US Congress, in particular, is grotesque. But it doesn’t seem to be all that different from how we Europeans and Americans also try to control the affairs of foreign countries in our interest. And let’s not forget that for many decades now the whole world has been in danger of nuclear apocalypse because of the disputes between some White nations. Most non-White people had no say in those disputes except as pawns for one side or another.

It’s like some Blacks noticing how Pygmies or Bushmen are more backwards than them due to HBD reasons while claiming that Europeans’ advantage is due to some devious conspiracy but no one wanting to call them out for their inconsistency.

  61. Boswald Bollocksworth says

I believe it comes down to language. If one consumes only English-language media, one is subject to the most potent, and developed social-engineering memes. All this stuff is coming out of Hollywood and the CIA constellation of institutions, in English, and only some of it gets translated or otherwise conveyed to non-English speakers. In this way, I think the Anglos have been broken down at a deeper level than Germans or Frenches.

Further, male/female is encoded into German and the Slavic/Romance languages much more deeply than in specifically English or Scandinavian, which stand out as the European languages without rich gender dynamics in the grammar. Like when you learn a little Russian/German/Spanish, it suddenly feels weird to say “she’s an American” or “she’s a lawyer”. It really should be “she’s an Americaness, she’s a lawerita” or something. English is a broken, ruined language, and doesn’t honor God’s creation in the way less corupted Indo European languages do. Very hard to convince a German XX and XY don’t exist, because it’s encoded into how he thinks at the level of nouns and verbs.

  62. Although many mestizo “Latinos” probably identify as white, many “Latinos” are really white. I.e. Andy Garcia and Ana de Armas are white. The “Latino race” doesn’t exist.

  65. Variety described Anya Taylor-Joy as a “woman of color” and her fans are enraged
March 3, 2021, 4:50 am* Pop Culture Nerds Cesar Moya Cesar Moya

After winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in the miniseries, The Queen’s Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy’s award was hailed by Variety magazine as a victory for people of color, which lit a match, since the actress is as white as snow and the only reason she was called that, is because she is of Latin descent.
The dedicated text to Taylor-Joy about the award read: “Argentinian Taylor Joy is the first woman of color to win this category since Queen Latifah in 2008 and only the fifth woman of color to win overall since 1982, when the category was introduced. S. Epatha Merkerson, Halle Berry and Alfre Woodard were the other previous winners.”
As you can see, the comparisons with other actresses of color were out of place. The actress’s mother, Jennifer Marina Joy, is of English and Spanish descent, while her father, Dennis Alan Taylor, is Argentine of Scottish descent. Given the incongruity of Variety’s words, several users drew attention to it on social networks.

Looks like there was a battle in Warsaj today(north of Kabul), around 2000 anti-Taliban forces; they appear to have been basically utterly destroyed with no impact on the Taliban advance, so they weren’t able to inflict any meaningful damage. They’re just utterly destroying any organized opposition that manifests at all at this point. The margin of triumph is so strange that it seems that they must be getting intel, either from ISI or their spies, or something.

The Taliban are moving down south there, so it looks like they’re cutting off one of the last two exits not in their control.

The western exit is the last one, and the Taliban seem to advancing east from their previous victories with no opposition, such that the US is estimating that the Taliban will complete their encirclement in less than 30 days. At this rate, its probably less than a week.

Kabul does not seem defensible, as it is mobbed by refugees. The American embassy seems to be evacuating now.

  68. My observation: I think it’s very likely that most Afghans prefer living under liberalism to Islamism. Especially when liberalism = lots of American money sloshing around. But very few Afghans are prepared to die fighting for liberalism. Especially because liberalism applied to tribal societies also translates to massive corruption. Even Communism inspires more loyalty.

The timeline here actually isn’t all that different from North Vietnam’s final Spring Offensive in 1975. That took 4.5 months, but the South Vietnamese collapse was really taking place in the third month. We’re 3.5 months in to the Taliban’s offensive (which started May 1).

The difference is that Vietnamese offensive still involved some actual fighting, tens of thousands of ARVN casualties. I wonder how many casualties Kabul’s forces took during this offensive. It sounds like hundreds, at most, but, it’s not entirely clear that it’s greater than 100.

  69. Daniel Chieh says

He does, try telling him that szalonna is bad for your health.

  70. This is what I’m talking about. The young woman that I worked with was beautiful and white skinned and had light colored hair. She had emigrated from Mexico, and was quite articulate and intelligent. Her ancestors must have been Spanish and probably didn’t mix much with the indigenous brown/bronze skinned people. Yet, when asked, she referred to herself as being “Mexican”.

  71. Where did you find a description of that battle? And are you suggesting that force of 2000 took heavy casualties? If so I guess it might contradict the “hundreds of Kabul casualties in this offensive, at most” speculation I just posted.

Surely the Taliban does have vastly superior intelligence though. Isn’t that always how these things go with American collaboration governments? The corrupt US-backed government doesn’t have leaks so much as firehose of intel that it feeds to its poorer but more principled anti-US opposition, which is why USG has always refused to share intel with its third-world vassals, dating back to the Cold War.

  73. I think you’re assigning too much rationality to bureaucratic processes. I really doubt there’s a hidden motive here — the War in Afghanistan was originally about taking down Bin Laden and exacting vengeance for 9/11. When that proved too difficult, but the US still found itself in possession of a country that it wasn’t prepared to give up, bureaucratic processes took over, and the occupation took on a life of its own.

Just spitballing here, I would guess that somewhere within those bureaucratic processes, it was decided (whether by an individual or more likely a committee) that reducing Russian influence in Central Asia was to be among the US State Department’s 1,001 top priorities. So representatives of the US bureaucracy in Afghanistan took to bringing this priority into action, giving them a box they could check when asked which of the 1,001 priorities they had helped bring into being. Nowhere in this process was anyone all that incentivized to think about the consequences for the military effectiveness of Afghanistan — that was someone else’s department.

  74. Once knew a blonde from PR. Pale skin and blue eyes. Though, thought I could see a slight touch, like in Boers.

Oftentimes, nowadays, I have difficulty judging if someone is a lighter-skinned Latino or darker haplotype of Italians or Greeks. Once you get to 3/4 Euro, it can get kind of hard to tell.

Some don’t have the accents any more, like they did in my youth. In the SW, I’ll bet there are people who don’t even know they have Mexican ancestors. Though, nowadays, it is definitely the Latino-Amerinds who are coming in droves.

  75. Even with the Mestizos, they haven’t really had enough time to mix, to have the DNA broken down into small chunks and be selected for, in order to be a biological race, IMO.

  79. I think you’re assigning too much rationality to bureaucratic processes. I really doubt there’s a hidden motive here — the War in Afghanistan was originally about taking down Bin Laden and exacting vengeance for 9/11. When that proved too difficult,

“When that proved too difficult”? The military had OBL cornered at Tora Bora in December 2001, and they were ordered to hold back. They let OBL escape.

but the US still found itself in possession of a country that it wasn’t prepared to give up, bureaucratic processes took over, and the occupation took on a life of its own.

    I agree.

Just spitballing here, I would guess that somewhere within those bureaucratic processes, it was decided (whether by an individual or more likely a committee) that reducing Russian influence in Central Asia was to be among the US State Department’s 1,001 top priorities. Interesting point.

Nowhere in this process was anyone all that incentivized to think about the consequences for the military effectiveness of Afghanistan — that was someone else’s department.

Or perhaps they did think about the consequences for the military effectiveness of Afghanistan, and figured that if the Afghani officers were too competent, the Afghani military would become too self-sufficient too soon.

  80. reiner Tor says

I think I could easily turn most of your statements around and make them be about Whites and Blacks, instead of Jews and gentiles.

A very simple difference is that woke Jews usually support Israel and keeping its Jewish character, whereas woke Episcopalians work overtime to destroy their own country. So woke Jews work on destroying all white countries except the one country which they can call exclusively their own, whereas woke gentile whites work on destroying their own countries with nowhere else to go. That’s a big fucking difference.

It’s like some Blacks noticing how Pygmies or Bushmen are more backwards than them due to HBD reasons while claiming that Europeans’ advantage is due to some devious conspiracy

That’s a straw man, as most people here will readily admit that Jewish success is mostly the result of Jewish abilities. A smart, driven and successful enemy is still worse than a dumb, lazy and unsuccessful one.

  81. Would blacks even recognize Jews, if Jews were black? (Interesting alt history scenario)

By and large, they don’t seem to recognize that mulattoes have been raised up high above them by claiming to be the same group and disproportionately benefit from the diversity regime, putting some of the costs (demographic change) on blacks. Despite them looking very different. Colin Powell, in his old age, almost looks white in some pics.

Meanwhile, the Westminster Holocaust memorial has cleared another hurdle. Slated to open in 2025. If it gets built (highly probable), I can’t see it standing for 100 years. Even with some plans to add other genocides on the side, it is too big an act of chutzpah. Someone will surely tear it down, even if the English are no more, by that point.

  82. reiner Tor says

From what I gather Hungary spends large sums on it, so I don’t see how it’s going to be so good for us. Shouldn’t the Chinese spend money on it if they wanted to have soft power influence? The Hungarian government is starving out the whole education sector, which is a bad idea because all teachers indoctrinate children against the government, and this super expensive project certainly increases tensions.

    But who knows.

  83. You seem to be implying that Jews are “the” enemy.

  84. He does, try telling him that szalonna is bad for your health.

I don’t think that it is bad for one’s health. It is the other white meat after all.

He did push back on my caution that sun worshiping could increase your chances of skin cancer, but it wasn’t really a trigger reaction.

  85. That’s a big fucking difference.

Could this be explained by the difference in average IQ between the two?

  86. The military had OBL cornered at Tora Bora in December 2001, and they were ordered to hold back. They let OBL escape.

Again, you’re assigning competence to the US military and bureaucracy that we have little reason to believe exists. Maybe it was also a cunning US stratagem to spend a trillion dollars building up an Afghan military that collapses like wet cardboard?

What we can say for sure: OBL escaped from Afghanistan into Pakistan. Likely with official Pakistani help.

The US military’s greatest competency (and this has been true since at least WW2) is the part where it employs overwhelming firepower against someone. It did that part at Tora Bora: the B-52s dropped bombs all over the place, blew a lot of stuff up. It’s also pretty good at aerial reconnaissance, which doesn’t work so great in caves. It is not so good at a lot of other aspects of war, which is where it failed in the initial search for OBL. For example, it sounds like the US expected Pakistan to pick up OBL if he fled their way, instead of expecting Pakistan to actively aid his escape.

  87. reiner Tor says

The ARVN made a mistake by placing too many troops too close to the northern border, and then a bold and quick Northern Vietnamese offensive cut them off. This is a little similar to the Battle of France, which was very quick, but also actually involved a lot of fighting, and due to the mistakes made by the losing side the difference seemed way bigger than it actually was.

Here it just seems that the Afghan military doesn’t actually exist. They are just running away or surrendering, never fighting. It has always been an illusion.

  88. US appears to have absolute control over IOC these days, with transgenders and Kosovo team participating, banned TV broadcasts to Crimea, collective punishements to Russian athletes, and Five Eyes conspicuously dominating medal count. Serious questions need to asked about the merits of participating in the these “American games”.

The 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics wee scheduled in late September/early October, in conjunction with a cooler Japanese weather pattern during that time of year

The 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, were scheduled during obsessively hot weather, to accommodate NBC, which didn’t want an Olympiad during the end of the baseball season and start of the football season.

I’ve come across some western mass media pieces suggesting that Russia has too much influence in some Olympics involved sports.

  89. Serbian is weird because our professions are officially all neutral despite mostly being grammatically male. There was a language law recently that caused a lot of butchering of mostly foreign-derived words (like psychologist) and it was made hypermandatory by the ultraretarded minister of country destruction (human rights and minorities or some bullshit like that). The language regulating body even complained because they have no right to pull that shit.

But locations and others? Practically all gendered.

  90. I’m not sure about the Hollywood stuff, because Germans also mostly consume (dubbed) Hollywood films (with the exception of the Upper class which watches European art films like Lars von Trier).

But the language gender grammer sounds interesting. Wokes are fighting in Germany to “reform the German language” by making it more gender neutral. For example the plural is always male in German
    Der Bauarbeiter (The construction worker)
Die Bauarbeiterin (The female construction worker)
    Die Bauarbeiter (The construction workers)

Now the Woke want to change that to “Die Bauarbeiter*innen” (The * is for all people who don’t identify as binary) And the funny thing is most Germans oppose that, even most leftists or liberal ones

  91. “it seems that my endorsement of Reed’s satire has triggered you” – No, Reiner Tor calmly added a correction and some perspective. Otoh when I read Fred Reed article I was almost triggered not but the content because this was the same Judeo supremacist crap you can find in many places but because it was just another evidence that Fred Reed is ruthless and unscrupulous who for the sake of rhetoric or joke would sacrifice truth, reason and decency.

When in 2015 I stumbled on the UR as an innocent of the IQism quite quickly I realized it was theoretically weak, its empirical claims were a stretch with a lot of help from data massaging but what I found the most astounding was the blindness of its enthusiasts, say on the iSteve, to the implications of them wallowing in the IQism. Most of them were not aware they were being fed the scraps from the table to give them a little superiority over Browns and Blacks but the true purpose of IQism was to justify the Jewish ascendance in the West and their power.

    https://www.unz.com/article/a-reply-to-jordan-peterson/?showcomments#comment-2331339
So if Jewish Putnam winners in 50 years fell from 40% to under 10% what does it tell us about explanatory power of IQ in the IQist universe? Is it possible that the hard work that went into making them 40% was the foundation of subsequent Jewish success and domination which is now lacking and thus a crutch of Jewish high IQ meme is needed to maintain and justify the status quo? If in 1950s there were Murrays, Cochrans, Sailers and Pinkers and Harrises who kept pumping up a meme of Episcopalian high IQ would WASP’s managed to stay in power for longer? Perhaps WASP’s actually believed in meritocracy and abhorred caste society and opted out from using this method of social engineering. Can we say the same of Jews? Will they relinquish power when hard working Asian wunderkinds start challenging them? This is the reason I insinuated a question about who is funding IQism?

Tales and stories we tell ourselves always serve a purpose which usually is hidden from us. The IQist tales as told on the right wing sites by people like Sailer and Derbyshire are stories imploring Jews to accept Whites as their partners in exchange for unquestionable acceptance of Jewish domination.

  92. OK, you got it right, now stop importing Africa and the middle east……try to be a great people again.

  93. better to be on one side of this clown show

Politicians of any competent US allies (Taiwan, Germany, Japan, South Korea, etc) seem know to avoid, or have been carefully instructed to avoid, the clown show.

While the less marketable America allies like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, et al, know they should quietly hide under the stage.

Of the US allies, only Netanyahu had enough to hubris to allow himself to be entered into American partisan debates, and probably this partly because he has extremely high levels of testosterone and narcissism, and he thought he could climb onto the American stage and dominate everyone. There are the character flaws in the politician, as Berlusconi can’t resist bunga bunga parties, and Trump can’t resist boasting about himself, and Putin can’t resist enriching his friends.

Another flaw that caused Netanyahu to allow himself to enter the American partisan structure, might be that he seems to have actually believed his own ideology (and the ideology is similar to Republican views). Whereas most politicians are quite free from a danger of believing the ideology they disseminate.

    constant disorganization and endemic

Yes America is extremely disorganized (and has been like this since the 19th century), but this is another area where the two party system is helpful – you can blame such problems to the opposing team, while people in the bureaucracy can escape blame with the refresh every 4-8 years. People had just becomeso habituated to blaming incompetencies to Trump’s chaotic personality; now is the turn for Murdoch’s team to blame the continuing incompetencies to Biden.

  94. It’s an objectively good and funny article, but TBF he doesn’t engage with the more nuanced JQ arguments (ergo with IQ arguments).

The only person who’s done that, comprehensively, is Nathan Cofnas, I think. The MacDonald vs. Cofnas debates are perhaps the best reading on this topic.

  95. Given his stance on homosexuality

Many of America’s closest allies are countries like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Pakistan. These countries diplomatic strategists know they have to engage the American elite, while avoiding visibility to the American public as much as possible.

While the politicians in more marketable to the American public allies like UK, Japan, Germany, all know they have to avoid entering US partisan politics, so they don’t become an enemy of the politicized public.

For example, Boris Johnson and Rupert Murdoch are friends and are eating dinner together, but even a clown politicians like Johnson is not going to host Fox News, and make himself an enemy for large parts of some of the world’s most politicized people in the only superpower.

Republicans will now block any serious actions against him

Aside from Trump, any Americans who will make decisions are not going to be influenced by Fox News, unless to see what the latest of Murdoch’s prolefeed technology is achieving for them. If Murdoch wants to influence the decision making journalists, Murdoch has a more intelligent media he uses called “Wall Street Journal”.

Currently Orban is promoted as the hero on the Murdoch prolefeed, while Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal is writing the more nuaced realities of the third world immigration in Hungary (https://www.wsj.com/articles/hungary-loudly-opposed-to-immigration-opens-doors-to-more-foreign-workers-11567944008). Actually they are increasing the legal third world immigration.

Murdoch has the same concept in the United Kingdom. He presents “Times of London” (https://www.thetimes.co.uk) for the educated middle class and decision making people, while he presents “The Sun” (https://www.thesun.co.uk/) as a kind of prolefeed to change the atmosphere.

Hungary is lucky in its positions as one of the most important NATO powers in Eastern Europe, with the second largest airforce – so it’s not like they can be in a weak bargaining position in relation to their US ally. But annoying the Americans while you are key to their power projection, will require some diplomatic incompetence.

  96. Thanks for linking – what a hilarious comments section. The “JQ” obsession is the dumbest aspect of this website.

  97. According to Richard Lynn, the IQ range of American Ashkenazi Jews is 107-113 and for European Jews, ONLY British Jews are at the same level as American Jews ( about 110) but the rest of European Jews are about the same as gentile Europeans in IQ level ( about 100) and also Israeli Ashkenazi Jews’IQ is only about 103. So the average IQ for worldwide Ashkenazi Jews is about 104. But the IQ for the non-Ashkenazi Jews in Israel is only about 91. So Jews as a whole, have IQ of about 100 that is about the same as white European gentiles.

  98. It’s possible Likud will be indicating a future for Republican politicians – i.e. the next stage of the Hegelian dialectic, a black female version of Donald Trump.

Miri Regev announces run for prime minister: ‘Stop voting for white people’

Likud MK Miri Regev revealed on Friday that she will run for the chairmanship of her party and the premiership after current Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu leaves his post.

“I think the Likud rank and file must vote this time for someone who represents their class, their ethnicity and their agenda. Sephardi Likudniks voted over the years for white people to lead them. I think the day after Bibi Netanyahu, Likudniks will have to some soul searching.”

The politician she praised was former US President Barack Obama, because he is African American.

“When Obama was elected, I sat and cried for an hour in front of the television,” she said. “When I saw movies and read books about black women needing to sit in the back and on the slavery of blacks, it hurt me

Regev called the government of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid “an Ashkenazi elitist bond and said Bennett was not her prime minister. She said the country was run by what she called “the deep state.”

While Regev said she was committed to the Likud, she warned she could form a new party if she was not elected.
“If the Likudniks continue to elect leaders with white DNA, a new Likud will arise,” she warned.

13% in the country as a whole, 8% in Kabul. https://asiafoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/2019_Afghan_Survey_Full-Report.pdf
No sympathy: 85% in Afghanistan, 92% in Kabul.

I’m not ofc saying this phenomenon doesn’t exist, in fact I am sure that Jews do it much more often than most other ethnic groups (high ethnocentrism). But the key difference IMO is the unique combination of networking ability and high verbal IQ. Jews found organizations like the ADL which have attained a stranglehold over social media, meanwhile anti-American Chinese nationalists in the US rant autistically on /r/Sino and /r/GenZedong.

What do you think of the Moldbug take that American power Jews are indistinguishable from Episcopalians? That they became fully acculturated before they started preaching with the New York Times and MGM? That this was their key power move?

Pretty tough for a Chinese to pull off if that is what it took.

  103. Typical articles of fashionable or hipster younger Jewish journalists are written more like https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/05/u-s-discourse-is-growing-more-pro-palestinian-policy-isnt.html

The fashionable view of the “cool leftist hipsters” in New York, seems to be very unfriendly to Israel.

Support for Israel in the Democrat Party is with the liberal centrists, who are somewhere around centre-left in the political space in America (but centre and centre-right in the Democrat Party), although some of these liberals are also in the socially liberal side of the Republican Party.

For example, Sheldon Adelson said that he was liberal, but “old timer liberal”. Rupert Murdoch is also quite liberal in his own views, and his media like “Wall Street Journal” and “Times of London” represented a liberal view. But his prolefeed media is more socially conservative.

This centre-left liberal Jews are like Bari Weiss, who have a bourgeois social liberalism, that will be difficult to maintain fashionable if you lived in Brooklyn.

Support for Israel in America is mainstream from the centre-left to the centre-right (if the Evangelicals can be understood as centre-right). Opposition to Israel is fashionable with the left-left, far-left, far-right.

    • Israel’s problem and why it’s becoming unpopular in America, is that they entered into partisan arguments between the Republicans and Democrats. Netanyahu contributed to the identification of Israel with the Republicans, and especially their image had become worse after Israel’s non-elite public has fallen in love with Donald Trump.

Having the support of liberal centre-left Jewish community would be helpful from the diplomatic point of view, but only because Israel is still actually in the liberal sphere itself. If those liberals Jews can still visit Israel, then they should be fans of it. That’s the situation with the employers from Silicon Valley – they like all the LGBT flags and the liberal hipsters in Israel. (As the reality is more liberal than the media articles write).

If in the next generation, Israel will became some non-democratic country without LGBT parades and Arab judges in the Supreme Court, etc, Israel will lose the popularity with the centre left regardless of remaining Jewish sentimentality. And Chinese investment, Tucker Carlson, Ukraine, and some Orthodox Jewish settlers from New Jersey, is not going to be adequate substitute friend for being supported by the liberal part of America.

I speculate Orban has a very long-term vision for Fudan University in Budapest as part of the broader cultural war that needs to be won to secure a national conservative direction for many generations to come. Orban understands that if the culture can’t be changed, any gains under his government will be temporary. He can only rule for so long and many reforms he has accomplished could unravel after he leaves office especially in higher education because left-wing pressure will be the most intense there.

I can see the role of Fudan University is to act as a safe space for Hungarian students to learn without typical left-wing university indoctrination. If the alternative is a Hungarian university created from scratch even with national conservative founders, I think Orban has the bad feeling the new Hungarian university will eventually succumb to left-wing pressure and change its character. However, if he delegates the grand Hungarian university project to a Chinese university then he can assume it will stay the course for 50 years or more because of the Chinese political system and resistance of Asian cultures to left-wing cultural ideas emanating from Western countries. Fudan University in Budapest will enhance Chinese soft power so it has Chinese government support. A Chinese policy bank is advancing a one billion EUR loan to construct the university. Currently, Chinese overseas lending is much lower than in past years but this project is still getting financings support. But what drives this project is not Chinese political will and you may not consider a loan to be terribly generous support. It is Orban’s vision that is pushing it through. I believe Orban knows he can’t trust white people in universities to follow through on his ideas over the long haul and understands delegating to a Chinese university is needed to save white Christian civilization in Hungary.

Official Russia appears to have taken note, given the recent military maneuvers in these countries.

  112. I didn’t get the impression utu was any kind of anti-vaxxer

utu is a pro-waxer, but he is obsessed with a strange conspiracy theory that a small proportion of those vaccinated in Russia is explained by a lack of vaccine, but not by a lack of those who want to be vaccinated

  118. I seem to recall that in Haiti the mulattos got shoahed once the whites were gone. And of course there is plenty of tribalism in Africa. They would surely recognize the jew.

  119. reiner Tor says

The issue is that if you starve the whole education system of funds but then spend lavishly on a foreign university project, it will turn the rest of the education system against you, and also it makes you look like some kind of a comprador or foreign stooge, and it can taint the whole thing. For example France adopted a ius soli legislation after ius sanguinis was painted as a German invention. If the competing ideologies are the western poz and a foreign Chinese ideology in a country which considers itself, for better or worse, western, then it’s easy to see how the Chinese ideology is going to lose out.

  120. In last six weeks Russia doubled its completed vaccination from 11% at the end of June to 22%. It took over six months to get the first 10%. Clearly the production rate of the vaccines picked up. Introducing the Sputnik Light gimmick to circumvent the difficulties with the production of the 2nd dose of the Sputnik V also helped at least on paper.

If Russia was able to produce 10-20 million doses by January as it was talked about in October 2020 the 10% would have been vaccinated by the end of February. Instead the campaign of bad mouthing of Western and mRNA, in particular, vaccines was launched which naturally reduced enthusiasm for vaccination altogether among Russians which, IMO, it was the outcome that Kremlin wanted to cover up vaccine shortage.

  121. The current generation of vaccines works much less effectively against the delta strain than against previous strains. So it is better to wear a mask on public transport even after vaccination

I don’t think that correct even from a utilitarian perspective that completely discounts the (by all indications highly minor) costs of masks.

We are going to get a fourth wave during the winter. All else equal, we can expect it to be worse than the one now, just on account of the seasonal factor.

So the more people that get infected now the better.

The only way this would be different is if we can expect a drastic ramp up in vaccination acceptance. But I don’t think that’s happening, it seems to be leveling off at an asymptote and the urgency to get a vaccination will vanish completely once Delta retreats for the autumn.

  122. Miri Regev announces run for prime minister: ‘Stop voting for white people’

Masks have become a tool of virtue signaling and the smaller the stake, the deeper the disagreement over it. It explains partly what some other writers and indeed a lot of those moving to places with looser mask requirement have in mind.

Antivaxxers are already blaming more virulent variants and superspreading on vaccines in general and mRNA in particular. (They have a point if all you need for a COVID “case” is a +ve PCR test).

The way it is going, a lot of places and indeed WHO wants to institutionalize Big Pharma’s racket and on the other side of the coin, vaccination-based segregation, to firmly establish the caste system for Great Reset. The epidemic and vaccines already matter much less than what is done in the name of them.

  128. So the more people that get infected now the better.

I’ve been hearing this crazy idea since the beginning of the pandemic. It seems to me that empirical experience has shown that this idea does not work

The only way this would be….

In all likelihood, collective immunity with the help of first-generation vaccines (Moderna, Sputnik, Pfizer…) cannot be achieved in principle. But the danger to an individual can be minimized. The first measure is vaccination, the second is anti-epidemic measures such as masks and distance

  130. Well, a Delta fighting booster is coming. Infection with vaccination isn going to be deadly, but at this point might as well be careful until the booster.

Judging by past events, by the time mass vaccination with delta booster becomes possible, a new even more effective strain of covid will come. According to this, I think that either covid will be able to be crushed by the next generation of vaccines (which scientists promise us), or the situation becomes similar to the situation with influenza vaccination – the vaccines cannot annihilate the flu, but they make the consequences from it minimal.

They probably should focus on developing a more effective next generation.

This is called a false dichtomy. The vaccine itself does not protect anyone – the vaccine only strengthens the “natural immunity”. New strains (with which vaccines cope worse) have improved abilities against human immunity. They hack the immunity of the vaccinated – but even more easily they hack the immunity of the unvaccinated

I am myself not onboard with some aspects of IQism. International rankings for example are very messy, especially outside of developed countries. But even in countries like Ireland you get different results at different times that look impossible to reconcile.

I am very certain, however, that I was born with a much lower intelligence than Einstein and that IQ tests are useful to measure those differences in innate intelligence among individuals.

Likewise, it seems obvious that intelligence correlates very positively with economic and social achievement.

Finally, that different human groups have different average IQs is not a matter of opinion but an empirical observation acknowledged even by Wikipedia.

Scan the shelves in any bookstore in China and you are likely to find best-selling self-help books based on Jewish knowledge. Most focus on how to make cash. Titles range from 101 Money Earning Secrets From Jews’ Notebooks to Learn To Make Money With the Jews.

The Chinese recognize, and embrace, common characteristics between their culture and Jewish culture. Both races have a large diaspora spread across the globe. Both place emphasis on family, tradition, and education. Both boast civilizations that date back thousands of years. In Shanghai, I am often told with nods of approval that I must be intelligent, savvy, and quick-witted, simply because of my ethnicity. While it is true that the Chinese I’ve met are fascinated by—rather than fear—the Jews, these assertions make me deeply uncomfortable.

As psychology became popular, Xu delved into Freud; he also held immense respect for Henry Kissinger, who orchestrated the start of American relations with China. Like Salinger, Bellow, Freud, and the godfather of Communism Karl Marx, Kissinger was a Jew. “He was a refugee and an immigrant to the U.S., but within 20 years he had made his way to become secretary of State. How come?” Xu wondered.

The search for an answer to that question became Xu’s mission. He returned from two years in the United States, and a formative official trip to Israel in 1988, convinced that Judaism could provide lessons for a young and hungry new China. “Once we learned, we wanted to teach,” he said. Xu set up university classes, attended international seminars, and translated the Encyclopedia Judaica into Chinese. Eventually, once diplomatic relations between Israel and China were established in 1992, he founded the Institute of Jewish Studies.

No, the German plural definite article ‘die’ is feminine.

  154. Unfortunately “IQ” is a pseudoscience more like astrology than astronomy, as you can see from looking at the tests. IQ tests look like they were selected arbitrarily from “after dinner puzzlebooks” found among their grandmothers by not very intelligent 20th century psychologists, and this selection seems to have occurred without any theory to guide them, – although they try to use technical sounding vocabulary and some statistical methods, without a connection to technical understanding.

As for wider discussions about group academic achievements and heritability (unrelated to the fact “IQ” is pseudoscience). It’s possible or even plausible, that there will be some genetically related differences in the distribution of formal academic ability between nationalities.

But as much of the theories in social science, this will not be easy to separate from the influence of history – and it requires some modesty in discussing the topic, unless you really think you can control confounding variables. And to see any sign of these differences, you will need to look within the same education system, in the same country, same historical epoch, and even in the same country it will not always be easy to separate away the cultural influences that can correlate to different groups.

Result of those genetic differences that might influence academic achievement between groups, won’t be available as an synoptic numerical value, and a reality of genetic differences in academic achievement that might exist between groups, could be quite unglamorous.

E.g. if group genetic differences will be involving attention span or motivation levels. Attention span is one of the most important traits for academic achievement, but it’s not how people normally imagine intelligence to be, let alone genius since the 19th century romantic movement.

Jews are the curious example as their accomplishments was only symbiotic of White civilization

You mean modern European civilization, which includes peoples of the Mediterranean.

Among European Jews, Ashkenazim, the effect of the secularism and Enlightenment (and historical vicissitudes) resulted in a destruction of the religious world from the late 19th century, and among the secularizing population there has been some attempt to reconstruct their self-identity as if they are a nationality.

But this attempt to reconstruct their self-identity as an ethnic or nation basis, is a recent, artificial attempt, in response to secularization and emigration. On a multi-generation basis, it doesn’t seem to succeed even in America. And calling all the multicoloured Jews as a single and separate race makes no sense from a genetic or historical view.

not creative” so still inferior to white

There is no sign Asians are “less innovative”. For the modern historical epoch since the 19th century, China is an authoritarian third world (or recently economically second world, but still today culturally and politically third world) dictatorship, so there has not been the historical situation that would allow for much cultural renaissance in its modern epoch.

If China breaks through a middle income trap and evolve a less repressive political system, then we can assume the culture will flower. Japan has been a first world country for some time, and it has the same “innovativeness” as you expect from first world countries since the 20th century. South Korea is just now climbing into the first world, and there is already signs of original culture beginning there.

In Africa and India, most people are busy doing more important tasks like collecting water from a muddy river, and inventing new Iphone apps is far from the life of the people. Economics for Africa, show only some few countries like Botswana, Algeria and Gabon are beginning to enter the second world. Plenty of people in Africa are still living in hunter-gatherer times, which is to say they might still be centuries from reaching the historical stage of that had begun thousands of years ago in the fertile crescent.

However, with the immigration in the world today, it’s possible for people to skip forward or back, a few thousand years, in a generation of two. And as such, I’ve seen among African students (similarly with far vaster numbers of Indian, Chinese, South American, etc) people studying for PhDs in technical disciplines in prestigious universities. As any most any historian has always been written, differences of thousands of years of development between the economic first world and third world, is unlikely to be result biological differences – you need to study history to understand the differences.

I’ve also read the metaphor about Trump, that he uses “trial balloons” (“Mexican rapists” seemed to be one of the most effective trial balloons in American electoral history). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_balloon

    • This Regev, was yesterday throwing trial balloons about not voting for white people, testing to see if the anti-white language will produce a resonant sound with the Israeli audience.

Today she is trying a modified version of the trial balloon using “Western”. Also yesterday she was talking about how Israel is controlled by the “deep state”, but today it’s “Western elite”.

Ex-Likud minister Miri Regev: Israel is run by a Western elite

Former Likud minister Miri Regev, who has previously spoken of her hope to be prime minister one day, tells Channel 13 that Israel has “a social-status problem.”

“There is a Western elite here that essentially controls most of the centers of power,” she says.

She adds: “It is unacceptable that, after 73 years, there has been no Mizrahi male or female prime minister, and no Mizrahi male or female Supreme Court president.”

Regev, 56, was born in Israel to a Moroccan-born father and a Spanish-born mother.

  156. Rather dramatic. The teaching profession (and now, most of academia, unfortunately) just usually attracts, by its nature, the most conformist elements in society (speaking from personal acquaintance here). Like you were saying about progressives before, in the past they would have been amongst the most enthusiastic Christians, Zionists, Nazis, Monarchists, Republicans, or whatever. I doubt whether Chinese teachers today are agitating for Hong Kong separatism or anything.

  157. Today she is trying a modified version of the trial balloon using “Western”. Also yesterday she was talking about how Israel is controlled by the “deep state”, but today it’s “Western elite”.

The language used has changed slightly, but this is fairly old hat within Israel though, isn’t it? Populist appeals to Mizrahi/Sephardi Jews was a big factor in how Likud won its first landslide victory in 1979 (iirc) under Begin, who was totally reviled by virtually all the Ashkenazi, Mapai-voting elite. Netanyahu repeatedly pulled off the same ‘anti-western’ populist trick for years, which was especially easy considering he first against Shimon Peres (iirc), a practical elitist caricature.
Ironically the mainstream right-wing in Israel has always treated and accomodated the Arabs with more respect than the ‘pro-peace’ left.

The last (secular) Mizrachi minister of major significance I can remember in the Knesset got drowned in mountain of corruption and sexual harassment allegations. Or take entertainment figures, first that comes to mind is Mizrachi musical icon Zohar Argov, who wasted his whole life and fortune on being a drug addict and unrepentent rapist (‘every woman wants it.. they just don’t know it yet’).

The best I can think of is Mordechai Vanunu, the man who blew the whistle on Israel’s nuclear arsenal. Even then, it seems a partial motivation for his actions was a deep resentment against Israeli society which he felt to be persecuted by, because of his Moroccan background.
Mossad managed to catch him before he gained foreign asylum anywhere with a honey-trap, after which he spent nearly a decade in solitary confinement, and even stays under house-arrest, to no local or international protest whatsoever.
It’s been speculated the real reason the Israeli state was so unforgiving towards him wasn’t his confirmation of Israel’s nukes, but because he comitted the ultimate betrayal, by converting to Christianity (he now goes by ‘John Crossman’) as a then public figure.

“IQ” has less basis in biology than anthropometry. But even if the basis is unsound, as far as it is ideologically expedient, pseudo-science can be elevated while real sciences being deprecated.

There is no sign Asians are “less innovative”…

As if “innovation” is necessarily a virtue. What you take to be “culture” is in fact “popular” culture, the one for mass consumption and the abnegation of classical or traditional culture. A genuine cultural renaissance, as in a more TradCon-inspired one, will question and re-evaluate the ideas of progress.

Stop transposing Cold War categories onto national levels of “development”, and it’s even better if you reconsider what exactly is “development”, and whether that is even preferable.

  160. Mostly agree.

The strongest claims from the IQists were (1) practical that IQ test scores predict future success and (2) biological that twin based heritability is very high (>50% or as some claim even 80%).

A closer look at (1) shows that many studies were forced to use correlation corrections (because of small samples an limited range) that always make the correlation go up.

There were always critics of the twin based studies (2a) that the MZ twins separated at birth are very few so N is very small and there is no chance of doing similar studies as in the 1st world twins are no longer separated for adoptions and (2b) that the heritability based on MZ and DZ twins reared together can’t account for the fact that MZ twins evoke different responses from environment (parents) than DZ twins. And (2c) there are genetic studies that can account for no more variance in IQ scores than 11%-13% despite that huge samples (N=1 million) and 100’s of 1000’s of SNPs are used to construct the polygenic score. So if heritability for IQ was only 15% then the whole IQism falls apart.

So far as nuclear weapons, Alexa, Instagram, birth control and Faceborg that’s another story. Thousands of people each year dying from accidents resulting by being distracted by their phones is not progress.

As a scientific theory its hard to doubt its prediction abilities. I would not invest in a nuclear power plant or chip fab in Nigeria (maybe a textile factory), but would in North Korea, Vietnam, or Turkey.

Steve Sailer, in general, has good and sometimes deep insights on IQ. But he lacks scientific training to take it to a more rigorous standard. So it’s somewhat abused on his blog, especially in appeals to lumpens.

IQ has strong prediction power at a local level, such as, North Korea but not Nigeria capable of nuclear engineering. But if you look at European countries by IQ tests, you would expect the cradle of Western Civilization to be in Finland. But it’s not. And rather by the ancestors of Nassim Taleb.

Jews are a religious group which includes quite a lot of different races

I would say Ashkenazim is most certainly an ethnic group, a European one like English and German. But evolved similar to a caste specializing in technical professions, thereby having selective effects on cognitive functions.

The opposite is Han Chinese, who have no castes and have had meritocratic societies for centuries. Farmers, bankers, bureaucrats are uniformly Chinese, across the cognitive ability distribution.

Most people are partisan but are unaware of their partisanship. Jews in the MSM seem to be unaware of their partisanship as it concerns Israel so this is normal behavior.

Independent of Whites, could East Asians have founded 1st and 2nd Industrial Revolution?

    My contention is yes.

Would there have been a need to go “industrial”? After all even when Continental East Asia went into Malthusian crises in the first half of the 19th century, there was not even the “awareness” that Western Barbarians have overtaken them and their approaches to statecraft (which of course includes production) were superior. All modernization here occured as the reaction to Barbarian intrusions. Maybe we’d have been on the level of India or Africa, and bare subsistence amid intensifying Malthusian crises.

Tokugawa Japan was a different beast, their protoindustry survived because of sakoku. But they did study Dutch sciences, so there was never a period your supposed scenario had been totally correct in Early Modern period. But granting that the Spanish & Portuguese had avoided Japan completely, I’d say a delay of 1 century at the point you picked, with the sciences even further (much improvement in Japanese protoindustry was in organization & skills, not the type of capital in Europe’s industrialization)

A few years ago, CBS 60 Minutes featured an Afghan saying that the Soviet presence in Afghanistan was better than America’s. This was followed by the CBS host dismissing that comment as poppycock, as if he had a better living knowledge.

Also reminded of a BBC host giving a smug reply to pro-Russian Mariupol Ukrainbe residents.

  176. Majority of American Jews are married to non-Jews nowadays, as it has been in the postsoviet space (https://www.bjpa.org/content/upload/bjpa/c__c/Tolts_EPC%20Milan,%2019951.pdf).

So if the Jewish conspiracy theory was accurate for secular American Jews, the secular Jews would have to hate their own family on a national basis, as opposed merely for all the normal personal reasons people can hate their own family.

Hostility to the outside world is an important part of the religious cults that try to trap their members inside, and this is what Judaism was until some attempts at reform were made during the “Haskalah” from the late 18th century onwards.

For most of history in Europe (with exceptions in the Spanish Inquisition), Jews could leave the minority religious cult of the Jewish community at any time if they adopted Christianity, and from a practical point of view could be easier and safer to leave the Jewish community, than to remain inside it. The fact that Jews were able to stay separate for so long, including during very violent historical times (even with small numbers that induce marrying your cousin), is because the people who stayed as Jews actually believed their religion, and those who didn’t dissolved into the non-Jewish community. (It’s still the same process of the non-secularized Jews today as in other religious cults https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT8ICy5YZfo.)

As enlightenment and secularization filtered into the Jewish world in the 19th century, there were attempts to reconceive the Jewish community as a nationality, and this was fertile for artists (as was nationalism for small people occupied by the government of foreign empires like Czechs {Janacek, Dvorak}, Irish {Yeats}, Finns {Sibelius}, etc). Although nationalism without needing to liberate your land from foreign occupation is a fish without water.

Between religious cults, and a secular Jewish version of self-determination nationalism of the 19th century (Zionism), there is little to bind people to a Jewish community. An attempt to conceive Jews as a unitary ethnicity like the German-speakers, or Italian-speakers, appears ridiculous considering its history as a religion (containing now different races). An identity based on genocides like the Holocaust, will just trend to universalist teaching against the history of genocides – from Armenia, to Rwanda or the Yazidis. Contemplation of genocides while living in a safe and comfortable environment, will lead the person an understanding of software problems related to jingoism.

In America, among non-WASPs, there is the concept of a secular ethnic pride based on achievements (e.g. “Columbus day” for Italian Americans, “Black history month” for African Americans). But this functions mostly as a way to make poorer nationalities feel more self-confidence, rather than to separate them from each other. The ethnic pride is sustained in 20th century America as a way to provide an equal social status to the new immigrants.

Secular “ethnic pride” that Americans can feel for their grandparents’ roots is impressive, but it won’t sustain a separate community. For example, I would doubt the parenting skills of AP or Mr Hack to guarantee their children to marry other Ukrainian Americans. On the other hand, if they programmed their children to genuinely believe in some fanatical religious cult, with its own complex metaphysics and lifestyle, that only allowed Ukrainian Americans to enter, and where they could only special foods that had not been touched by people outside the religious cult, etc..

  177. This concept in the internet forums that “Asians are less innovative” is artifact of the arrival time or awakening time of the different world regions in the historical development of modernity.

Renaissance began in Italy, and awakening of modern man after his historical siesta filters North through France, Low Countries and to England and Scotland.

In Germany, by the time of Weimar Classicism, there was a sense of being far behind the civilized world, and a choice is presented between imitation and originality (between “Zivilisation vs Kultur”). This debate was later transposed to Russia, where it still remains with the debate about the “Russian soul”, “Russian soil”, “Russian spirituality, in rebellion to the need to import culture from that West, that is ironically an imported product from Germany.

In the 19th century, there was this reality of being an imitative society in Germany, in Russia, in the USA, and by the end of the century in Japan as well.

Russia manages to wake up in time, to combine its imitative imports, with innovation on the last stage of European cultural fertility, contributing some original things to late romantic music, early modernism in music and painting, and the later developments of the novel and stages of verse like the symbolist movement in poetry.

USA’s development is mostly too late for European cultural fertility movements, and their original contribution is to late modernism in painting that be seen as terminus, where the possibility of mimetic painting was closed by the invention of photography. However, technological developments that allow the creation of the moving image by the 20th century, allow America to become an innovator in the new field of cinema. There is also a virgin territory for America in the cultural fusions that results in jazz and pop music. Similarly, in virgin territories created by technology of the late 20th century, Japan could become the most innovative nation in video games.

These most “slow waking” regions of the modern world are Latin America, China, South East Asia, India and Africa. Latin America provided the “boom” of later 20th century literature. For China, India and Africa, the question will be what fields are left (or will be newly created) to innovate in the 21st/22nd centuries.

  178. So if the Jewish conspiracy theory was accurate

You are replying to someone who does not think there is a “Jewish conspiracy” and never have. I don’t believe much of your comment weighs in on the JQ. Most of us know that many secular Jews are marrying out, but that doesn’t do away with the JQ.

However, Hungary can’t reduce the time spent in education while other countries keep it high (and are even increasing it), so the only thing to be done is making the teachers less traitorous. We can’t even make them patriotic, as Hungary can’t control the wider culture, we cannot keep Hollywood or pop music or sportsball (with its black superstars and constant anti-racism campaigns) out.

They were on average pretty anti-nationalist long before the Nazis. And even when they were pro-nationalist, they were of the neocon “inclusive nationalism” types which advocated for broad acceptance of minorities to provide for great power strength. So basically they were always strictly opposed to white ethnic groups organizing as ethnic groups, for the obvious reason that Jews were not part of it. So for a white who wanted to represent his group as a group Jews were always an enemy, whether he realized it or not. Mind you, groups usually have many enemies, so saying that they were “the” enemy is still wrong.

Step by step towards nuclear fusion?

Now, the National Ignition Facility (NIF) has taken a major leap toward that goal. Last week, a single laser shot sparked a fusion explosion from a peppercorn-size fuel capsule that produced eight times more energy than the facility had ever achieved: 1.35 megajoules (MJ)—roughly the kinetic energy of a car traveling at 160 kilometers per hour. That was also 70% of the energy of the laser pulse that triggered it, making it tantalizingly close to “ignition”: a fusion shot producing an excess of energy.

“After many years at 3% of ignition, this is superexciting,” says Mark Herrmann, head of the fusion program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which operates NIF.

NIF’s latest shot “proves that a small amount of energy, imploding a small amount of mass, can get fusion. It’s a wonderful result for the field,” says physicist Michael Campbell, director of the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) at the University of Rochester.

When NIF launched, computer models predicted quick success, but fusion shots in the early years only generated about 1 kilojoule (kJ) each. A long effort to better understand the physics of implosions followed and by last year shots were producing 100 kJ. Key improvements included smoothing out microscopic bumps and pits on the fuel capsule surface, reducing the size of the hole in the capsule used to inject fuel, shrinking the holes in the gold cylinder so less energy escapes, and extending the laser pulse to keep driving the fuel inward for longer. The progress was sorely needed, as NIF’s funder, the National Nuclear Security Administration, was reducing shots devoted to ignition in favor of using its lasers for other experiments simulating the workings of nuclear weapons.

Earlier this year, combining those improvements in various ways, the NIF team produced several shots exceeding 100 kJ, including one of 170 kJ. That result suggested NIF was finally creating a “burning plasma,” in which the fusion reactions themselves provide the heat for more fusion—a runaway reaction that is key to getting higher yields. Then, on 8 August, a shot generated the remarkable 1.35 MJ. “It was a surprise to everyone,” Herrmann says. “This is a whole new regime.”

Exactly which improvements had the greatest impact and what combination will lead to future gains will take a while to unravel, Herrmann says, because several were tweaked at once in the latest shot. “It’s a very nonlinear process. That’s why it’s called ignition: It’s a runaway thing,” he says. But, “This gives us a lot more encouragement that we can go significantly farther.”

Herrmann’s team is a long way from thinking about fusion power plants, however. “Getting fusion in a laboratory is really hard, getting economic fusion power is even harder,” Campbell says. “So, we all have to be patient.” NIF’s main task remains ensuring the United States’s nuclear weapons stockpile is safe and reliable; fusion energy is something of a sideline. But reaching ignition and being able to study and simulate the process will also “open a new window on stewardship,” Herrmann says, because uncontrolled fusion powers nuclear weapons.

Herrmann admits that, when he got a text last week from colleagues saying they’d gotten an “interesting” result from the latest shot, he was worried something might be wrong with the instruments. When that proved not to be the case, “I did open a bottle of champagne.”

  186. So basically they were always strictly opposed to white ethnic groups organizing as ethnic groups, for the obvious reason that Jews were not part of it

Kind of puts that hypocrisy with regard to the Jewish state in the spotlight, doesn’t it?

I am a “civic nationalist” so I don’t have the same objections to Jews as “blood and soil” type nationalists. I look at the Enlightenment and the emancipation of Jews in Europe and see Jews trying to assimilate and be the best “nationalists” possible. Then the rug was pulled out from under them. This, combined with the centuries old persecutions on religious grounds, makes me somewhat understanding of Jewish apprehension and worry.

For me, they have every right to try and influence American policy toward Israel just as any other American has the right to try and influence policy. (I expect Afghan-Americans to try and influence future policy toward Afghanistan, and so on.) Because of religious beliefs, my family and friends are sometimes more pro-Israel than some Jews, but I acknowledge that right, even though I wish they would be more nuanced.

One’s view on the JQ is determined before learning any of the “facts” about Jews. That’s why you and I can agree on facts like over-representation of Jews in media, but have different responses.

If you think these last two statements are flawed, I would very much like to hear your opinion.

  191. Brown people are the mainstream of Israeli society nowadays. And so recent political events like Isaac Herzog becoming president, seem like a visible indication of the influence of “old boy’s networks” as opposed to meritocracy, to rise through the political class,

This isn’t a good indicator for Israel. Part of the politicians’ job is to be a symbol of the country, and especially for the mainly ceremonial position of the president within Israel’s political system. But Isaac Herzog is now the President, as if it the position is a family heirloom.

However, Miri Regev’s latest rhetoric was not very positive, including talking about creating a “Mizrachi elite” (“Mizrachi” is Hebrew for “Eastern” – it refers to any of the Arab, Caucasian, Berber, Kurdish, Indian and Iranian Jews).

Regev’s rhetoric (not that anything she says is very serious), reminds of Lebanon. In Lebanon every nationality has its own political elite in the government, that is given a share of the regulatory capture, and this multiplicity of elites has appeared to perhaps multiply the extent to which the ordinary are being scammed.

Shimon Peres (iirc), a practical elitist

Peres was a good example of social mobility, but he was from when Israel was in its “seed phase”, and he was already rising in the management before the “company went public”.

He was an immigrant, from the poor village in Belarus without running water. He was born in a wooden house without running water, and by the end of his life he was drinking tea in the palace with Queen Elizabeth of England.

But it’s because “he joined the company when it was startup”, and when he was young, and he had enough charm to climb into management roles early.

He wasn’t in the army, he wasn’t from an elite family, and he was an immigrant rather than a Kibbutznik. If you look in his middle career, he gives an impression of an arrogant nouveau riche executive.

However, in the later stage of his career, political persona of Peres became a kind of village grandfather, and he seemed to become a popular and unifying president in Israel when he reverted to this grandfather personality. .

Some of his childhood friends seemed to never escape from the village.

Vanunu was placed in prison, because he leaked about Israel’s nuclear program to Rupert Murdoch in the 1980s.

Israel’s nuclear program is extremely controversial, because of the Cold War agreements on non-proliferation, that became one of the most important external policy priorities of the United States from the 1960s.

Also Israel became aligned increasingly with the United States from the late 1960s, while America’s external policy priority was nuclear non-proliferation. As a result, Israel’s leadership has prioritized discretion or non-embarrassment of the hypocrisy of the USA’s relationship to them, at a level of national strategy.

Later, India and Pakistan also developed nuclear weapons after the non-proliferation treaty, but USA had sanctioned both for this during the 1990s, until their support was needed for the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

Israel’s nuclear weapons are still “sensitive” in the 21st century, as Israel relies on the support of the international community in preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. But in the 1980s, the secrecy would be likely even more important to prevent a public embarrassment to their relation with the USA within the framework of Cold War.

Peres was involved in this area historically, and you can see from his political biography that he seems to have the stereotypical skills of an executive that companies will employ for managing these “sensitive” negotiations – i.e. charm, discretion, etc. But still Israel is lucky that it didn’t have worse consequences from the nuclear revelations, while far more significant and powerful countries India and Pakistan were sanctioned into the 21st century. My default presumption on nature vs. nurture is that the environment counts for a lot. I usually start off assuming that nature and nurture each account for about half.

Would there have been a need to go “industrial”?

Not sure what is your contention here, how would you answer that question? My answer is yes for 1st and 2nd, for the good far outweighs the bad.

But granting that the Spanish & Portuguese had avoided Japan completely, I’d say a delay of 1 century at the point you picked, with the sciences even further behind

Is that what you mean? Then I agree.

You bring up a profound question of whether innovation, which East Asians supposedly have less of, is always necessarily positive endeavor. This I have re-read Heidegger and think about.

But again that’s the should question.

The could question also entails, at some point, will orientals stop and think, should we even continue on this race win Nobel Prizes/Field Medals, innovate 4th Industrial Revolution techs? The innovation paradigm itself is a Western conceit.

That type of meta-analysis requires innovative out-of-the-box thinking on its own. The Sinosphere is zoomed in on the innovations themselves, the meta-analysis not so much.

  194. China Japan and Korea Bromance of Three Kingdoms says

Dmitry is too focused on the Cold War Three Worlds nomenclature. Mine has always been “level of industrialization”.

For this I don’t think its immodest to say China is in the first tier with US/EU/Japan/SK. Not even Russia should be necessarily be included (AK’s article on Russian Tech market duly noted).

In the future the first tier will pull ahead even further from the rest. For this to my knowledge China/US/SK are in the best position.

Take it outside of the modern industrial/service/information economy and dump it in say, Song Dynasty, a few centuries in the post-civilizational future or African tribes pre-1500, and they would say nothing.

This I disagree. A prodigy in Song would be expected to compose a 七言絶句 seven character quatrain, to a given topic on the spot, here one as example by Du Mu at the very high stylistic end

    清来
    清明时节雨纷纷,路上行人欲断魂。

Along with verbal, rhythmic, you can see the geometric/visual quality to it. So it’s like Negros with their freestyle rapping but much more literature, calligraphy knowledge.

Steve Hsu covers g factor extensively, that is, verbal, math, visual-spatial cognitive abilities are heavily correlated. So a top scorer on gaokao I would expect to be also potentially good also at seven character quatrains.

What needs to be questioned is that oriental IQs are math-tilted. There was no math on the Imperial Exams. Yes, Chinese in the West are typically more verbally obtuse, but there’s a vast language difference, I’d like to see Jews/subcons come up with seven character quatrains.

By the way, how much do you know about Chinese history? Song was actually the most industrialized and technological innovative dynasty. You would have made your point much better with Han or Tang lol

  196. Jews are a religious group which includes quite a lot of different races, although all of them might be claiming to have descent from the ancien Israelites.

BINGO! No one sane who has seen as dark Yemeni Jews can be and as light Ashkenazi can be, could believe them to all be of the same race.

Among European Jews, Ashkenazim, the effect of the secularism and Enlightenment (and historical vicissitudes) resulted in a destruction of the religious world from the late 19th century, and among the secularizing population there has been some attempt to reconstruct their self-identity as if they are a nationality.

Yep, exactly what the fundamental, primary goal of Zionism was. As Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro explains.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGdRzFmStdw&t=7s

    Podcast:
    https://www.committinghighreason.com

But this attempt to reconstruct their self-identity as an ethnic or nation basis, is a recent, artificial attempt, in response to secularization and emigration.

Right, the concept of a Jewish identity divorced from the religion of Judaism was pretty much unheard of prior to the Haskalah.

On a multi-generation basis, it doesn’t seem to succeed even in America.

Right; non-Orthodox overwhelmingly intermarry and within a few generations lose all Jewish identity.

And calling all the multicoloured Jews as a single and separate race makes no sense from a genetic or historical view.

    Yep, as per above.

This is a step that even Mr. Obama was not willing to do.

Quite a lot of business that Russia will lose, and presumably Ukraine will gain.

  198. In every language I know, first world/third world is not used nowadays as “Cold War nomenclature” (although that was its origin in the 1950s), but just as colloquial way to refer to rich/poor countries.

It’s true that has become politically incorrect to use it in academic discussions, as it imposes a sense of hierarchy (so terms “developed/developing” are being substituted), but for colloquial discussion it still seems to be the most common way we talk about the difference between the rich world and the poor world.

But it’s also useful as the meaning is a littler broader than saying “rich, medium, poor”, and I mean it in the broader sense.

So, for example, in terms of the income levels (not using the World Bank category), China has an income similar to contemporary Russia, Mexico, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, etc.

However, in the cultural level, a lot of the Chinese products (for example, the non-Hong Kong cinema) are somewhat less sophisticated than you would expect in Russia, Mexico, Argentina, Chile If I was going to gamble to watch a random film from China or Argentina, I would expect the film from Argentina will be more cognitive on average.

Similarly, in areas of development which require more regulation, then China doesn’t necessarily match with countries like Russia. For example, in terms of furniture. In Russia there is much stricter regulation of the level of chemicals that can be offgassed by furniture. So consumers in Russia will be more protected from carcinogens by buying particle board furniture from Russia, rather than imports from China.

With electronic products, in Russia regulation will usually ensure technically trained engineers, and products tested for safety or longevity, whereas with Chinese products this is regularly not the situation. This is likely related to the consumer protection level not being developed to an equivalent level.

So how would you categorize the current situation? If you read a thousand-page history books on a country, you might arrive at an understanding of the complex realities there. For China, you would likely need to read several thousand page books, learn the language, and live there a decade, to understand its realities, and not sound like an idiot discussing the country.

But from the point of view of colloquial discussion, people might say: “Income of China is typical of the second world, public transport like in the first world. but e.g. industrial regulation, consumer protection, political system, etc, is typical more of the third world.” And we would understand their generaly claims.

Because it has a broader sense “first/second/third world”, is a useful colloquial language. For example, if I said “Aspects in San Francisco seem third world”.

It doesn’t make much sense in terms of income levels, as San Francisco has one of the highest incomes cities anywhere. But then in San Francisco, tourists are presented with drug addicts rolling on around pavements with one leg, as they have expected if they were vacationing to India.

Our colloquial language of “first world/third world” encompasses more than just income levels, but also an expectation about a level of infrastructure, regulation, politics and culture – i.e. what people from wealthy countries expect from civilization in the 21st century. So in this sense you can say “San Francisco feels partially third world”, without total contradiction.

to my knowledge China/US/SK are in the best

I’m no economist. (Just someone who reads an article occasionally). But it seems that China’s economic vulnerability in the next years, will surely be the middle income trap, and as the “workshop of the world” of the early 21st century this will be difficult to escape.

In almost all areas where China produces competitive exports, its products are usually not at the same level as the equivalents that could be produced in developed countries. Often the Chinese exports are competitive, despite being lower quality than the goods that they compete against. Because they are cheaper, due to larger economies of scale in China, possibly lower regulation, possibly subsidies/dumping, and primarily because of the lower cost of labour.

This is vulnerable to the middle income trap, as rising incomes will progressively undermine one of the main causes of the country’s competitiveness in manufacturing.

Of course, many economies have escaped from the middle income trap, but some economies had been in it for a long time before.

South Korea is a positive example of a country becoming high income while maintaining a manufacturing sector. But was not exactly a fast process.

World Bank classification of high income aside (which seems too low for this topic – it’s only GDP per capita of around twelve thousand) South Korea was in the middle income trap for some 30-40 years, before it escaped upwards closer to an EU average income level.

Not even Russia should be necessarily be included

Almost all internationally competitive industries of the Russian economy are in the area of extraction, processing, smelting, etc, of natural resources (oil, gas, aluminum, minerals/diamonds/nitrates, etc) .

This is where the big money is for the economy, not in manufacturing. In this sense, Russian economy is more like Australia, Canada and Nigeria, than like China (although Russia has low incomes like China, the low cost of labour are not integral to the competitiveness of the exports).

Fate of the Russian economy is determined by what happens in the international commodity markets. We can assume that commodity prices will increase in many areas, although in cyclical way, and with oil demand being moderated at least by the 2030s. Also the population is falling in Russia. Together this should add upward pressure on the income level in Russia. But who knows what will happen with oil demand (OPEC claims the peak will only be in late 2030s https://www.reuters.com/article/us-oil-opec-outlook-idUSKBN26T24C )

I wasn’t placing my 3 examples on the same level. Those are completely different societies where the requirements of human abilities are widely different. To make my point clear, IQ tests and quotients, being a Western construction and approach to human intelligence, are nothing outside the current Westernized world-system. Intelligence has always been a fact, and differences in abilities especially so, but IQ imposes a Eurocentric and modernist view on the forms those should be expressed and implying the “right” ways those should be used, while each society, keeping true to their traditions and organic development, knows themselves better than that standard. I actually wanted to tie this back to the “need to emulating the Barbarians without contacting them” argument in the way we need to be out of the Western box and see things on and from the outside.

how much do you know about Chinese history? Song was actually the most industrialized and technological innovative dynasty. You would have made your point much better with Han or Tang lol

I’m Chinese (not in the mainland but at its doorsteps) and I recited the quatrain (and some other poetry) back in primary school. I was intentionally using the most “advanced” period (relative to other regions and other eras) as the example, where under the universal concept of “intellectual ability” hides very subtle differences of epistemology. A society of Neo-Confucians, mercantile proto-industrialization and appeasement diplomacy with the North (Liao & Jin) were surely quite big-brained. It could approach Western modernity (and so we can speak of Song industrialization alternate histories), but those are built on different foundations and the high-IQ society of designing AI systems, setting up supply chains and Globalism wouldn’t have been immediately conceivable to the Song Chinese.

Let me reply to points raised by all three of you since I returned so late…

    Dmitry:

Labor costs and land prices are already high enough in the main productive areas of China to induce an exodus of low-value-added labor-intensive industries to SE Asia and partly South Asia. “Opposition” to China is just the convenient excuse.

And even if China becomes mostly developed (say around 2030), many parts of it will still resemble middle-income countries, since it’s still going to be one of the most populous countries in the world and some inevitably are left behind. Lots of low-productivity sectors have to remain for strategic reasons, so the best bet is converging to where Czechia & Estonia are relative to Western Europe.

SK’s growth rates weren’t as low as Latin America’s while it was in the “middle-income trap”, except for the dips in 1979-80 & 1997 (when SK was on the threshold of entering the high-income category). This was basically because of structural transformation, which the entire Latin America failed.

Russia actually went into the reverse in the 90s and transitioned from a self-sufficient industrial nation to an energy exporter. The entire West can follow if neo-Luddites smash 4IR automated industries.

Dependence on resource exports is at the root cause of Dutch Disease and it subjects entire parts of the world to the changes in world market conditions, which means great boom and busts, but not sustained progress. This explains all the examples we have mentioned.

    You:

I don’t disagree with this assessment. But my argument is that the Three Worlds or dev’ed/developing paradigm will shortly proved to be outdated.

Agreed, but remember my likely scenario of neo-Luddites smashing 4IR automated industries.

It will be if it doesn’t move up in the value chain.

The way to get stagnant in a middle income trap is to not move up in the value chain. Under a US-centric supply chain, SK does risk this.

But SK is ahead in some of the aforementioned technologies than even Japan (and certainly EU). Thus come the importance of RCEP, so far as a foundation for an integrated supply chain centered around C/J/K.

By abstaining from RCEP, India exposes herself to an enormous risk of being left further behind.

Sure. But I just gave the argument against total convergence of Chinese income levels to Developed country average (except for the case the entire West goes post-Soviet).

India will be screwed heavily if it goes all in in software outsourcing & call centers.
